Mike Mulligan and Tom Thayer, who was sitting in for David Haugh, opened their show by conducting the daily 5 at 5 segment, debating a variety of questions. -- Were you surprised to see Cubs right-hander Yu Darvish struggle so much against the White Sox in an exhibition loss Monday? Does that say more about Darvish's readiness or the White Sox's offense? Was it more disturbing from the Cubs' perspective or impressive from the White Sox's perspective? -- White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada was back in the lineup and looked impressive in the field and at the plate Monday. Do you expect him to be in the lineup on Opening Day? And if so, how big a lift is that for the White Sox? -- Which starting rotation would you prefer to have this season: that of the Cubs or the White Sox? If you were pooling starters from both sides of town, how would you line them up? -- How do you feel about the Bears being ranked 25th in the Pro Football Talk preseason power rankings? What about just four NFC teams being ranked below them -- the Lions, Giants, Panthers and Washington? -- What do you make of the NFL and the NFL Players Association agreeing upon two weeks of daily tests for players that will move to every other day if the testing percentage remains below 5%? Does it make you more hopeful the season will happen? Do you believe a one-game preseason is a workable compromise or should all exhibition games be scuttled?

After a very tough weekend for two communities, what is the feeling in Washington? What can be done to prevent more situations like Dayton and El Paso?
In this eye-opening interview, Washington Times opinion editor Charlie Hurt discusses his new book, Still Winning: Why America Went All In on Donald Trump — and Why We Must Do It Again, and the message it is meant to convey.Charlie explains why, if you strip away the shock aspect of Trump and boil it all down to his basic platform, so many Americans responded so favorably to him. Ironically, because establishment Republicans do not really understand Trump, their poor messaging is a big reason why he became so popular. How successful has President Trump been in draining the swamp and reducing corruption in Washington? What has he done for the mainstream working person, whom William Graham Sumner labeled "The Forgotten Man" in his 1883 essay of the same name? Why is it that Democrats still do not understand Trump? And, perhaps the biggest question of all: Why is Donald Trump such a threat to unprincipled, establishment Republicans like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, as well as conservative media types like George Will and Bill Kristol? The border crisis, the AOC Squad, the Mueller hearing, and Charlie Hurt’s predictions for the 2020 elections are all covered in this hard-hitting, politically incorrect, in-depth interview.

This is Huntin’ Land, the podcast for landowners and land hunters, with how to’s on habitat management and land investment. We've got a special treat for you today, The entire show we're going to be talking to the experts over at Ducks Unlimited and learning about the vision for DU in its 83rd year and beyond. Today we're talking with Adam Putnam, the new CEO of Ducks Unlimited, and a little later in the show, we'll be visiting again with Chief Scientist Dr. Tom Moorman, Tom is going to cover Wetlands Mitigation and how Landowners can get involved with Ducks Unlimited to simultaneously increase waterfowl habitat and financial gain. On Today’s show, we’re going to learn a little more about Adam Putnam, the newest CEO for Ducks Unlimited. We’ll learn a little bit about Adam’s background, his history with waterfowl and DU, and a little backstory on how he came to be the head coach of the largest non-profit organization in the World! Some of the highlights of today’s show will be hearing: What were Total Revenues for DU in 2018? Does this represent an increase or decrease over FY2017? Where does the money come from? Breakdown of revenue percentages. At DU, how much of each dollar goes towards the mission? How many acres were conserved in 2018? What are some examples? What accomplishments were achieved in Washington? What are some of Adam’s specific goals for DU? Are there any big changes on the horizon? What are some of the biggest threats facing waterfowl and waterfowl hunters right now? And after a great discussion with Adam, we’re checking in again with Dr. Tom Moorman, Chief Scientist of Ducks Unlimited. We’re learning where the ducks are right now and how we can use sound science to not only increase waterfowl habitat, but also increase financial gain for the landowner. We’ll go in-depth with Tom on Wetlands Mitigation through Ducks Unlimited. Ducks Unlimited projects on private lands provide tremendous benefits to waterfowl, other wildlife and you! DU has teams of biologists and engineers that provide wetland restoration, management, and protection services directly to landowners. When a private land project is matched up with wetland mitigation funds, the result is habitat for wildlife and financial gain to the landowner. We’ll define a wetland mitigation bank. We'll learn what happens when wetlands are destroyed, and how many acres of wetlands have to then be preserved? Tom will explain how Ducks Unlimited can come out on your property and advise you on how to create or enhance waterfowl habitat. We’ll learn if still own the property and just how this consultation can increase financial gain for the landowner. We’ll also cover the types of wetlands that DU most interested in protecting, with a special emphasis on what types of wetland sites have good potential for DU wetland mitigation banking. If you’ve ever considered enhancing your property for waterfowl, you don’t want to miss this show.
This live Sinica Podcast recorded in New York on March 6 features Samm Sacks, Cybersecurity Policy and China Digital Economy Fellow at New America. She and Kaiser Kuo discuss the many facets of U.S.-China technology integration and competition, touching on topics such as data security, artificial intelligence, and how to build “a small yard with a high fence.” What to listen for on this week’s Sinica Podcast: 11:04: Decoupling is a theme that has defined one of the more extreme potential outcomes of the fraying U.S.-China relationship. Are these conversations prevalent outside of Washington? What about the Silicon Valley tech community? Samm addresses these questions here, among others: “The reality is when we think about technology development, whether it’s joint research, supply chains, collaboration of sciences — these things don’t really map nicely onto political borders. And these are really diffuse networks that, when you try to decouple [them], there’s just a disconnect here.” 21:13: What is the relationship between technology companies and the Communist Party? What impact does China’s Cybersecurity and National Intelligence Law have on the companies’ supposed obligations to cooperate with authorities on sharing private data? When two passengers using Didi, a popular ride-share service in China, were killed, the company cooperated reluctantly, resulting in a bizarre legal limbo. Samm explains: “Chinese legal scholars were saying, wait a second, if Didi is to fall in line on this data-sharing agreement, that’s a violation of China’s Cybersecurity Law, because the Cybersecurity Law has a framework around the conditions where data is collected and shared. So again I think there’s a lot more churn than people understand.” 27:46: What is important data? China’s Cybersecurity Law has outlined broad data localization requirements. Does the government have the ability (or capability) to review the huge amounts of data going in and out of the country? Samm points out: “One of the outcomes I would look for if we were to see the so-called structural issues on the tech side, one would be is the Chinese government going to agree to allow more kinds of commercial data out of the country without these arduous security audits?” 34:41: Is China deliberately exporting its model of censorship to governments and countries throughout the world? What of the future of domestic surveillance in China? Who is discussing the ethical and legal implications of artificial intelligence being brought into everyday life and society, and where? Samm attended a Track 2 dialogue between Berkeley Law and Beijing University Law and discusses the conversations in the academic world regarding algorithmic bias, and contesting decisions made by artificial intelligence here. 40:58: Samm elaborates on the concept of “small yard and high fence.” What are some actionable items in the technological tussle unfolding between Washington and Beijing? She provides her guiding principle: “Having a constructive bilateral trade and investment relationship with China, particularly with technology, is in the interest of the United States. And we cannot take an approach that is going to use blanket bans and discrimination based on national origin. We need to use tools like law enforcement as the scalpel they were intended to be because of the integration of our two systems. Otherwise, we end up shooting ourselves in the foot.” Recommendations: Kaiser: Seeing Like a State: How Certain Schemes to Improve the Human Condition Have Failed, by James C. Scott. Washington has been hit with a trifecta of catastrophic events in the past week. First, President Donald Trump fired Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey, justifying his decision by pointing toward Comey’s mishandling of the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s emails. Trump later changed course, admitting he fired Comey for continuing the investigation about Russia’s role in disrupting the 2016 election. Just days later, news broke that Trump shared classified information about the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) with Russian diplomats in the Oval Office — a decision defended by Trump and Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster, Trump’s national security advisor. Now, Comey has returned to the spotlight following media reports that he wrote a memo about a conversation in which Trump told him to end the Michael Flynn investigation. (Flynn was forced to resign his role as national security advisor after just 24 days, due to his secret communications with the Russians.) How have the dramatic events of this week changed Washington? What’s next in the ongoing saga of the Trump presidency? Is an investigation or impeachment possible? Professors Julian Zelizer and Sam Wang discuss this and more in episode #44 of Politics and Polls.
This week we discussed the craziness that is day 1 of Free Agency. The Eagles snag the top WR in Free Agency. Patriots come out of nowhere to sign Gilmore. Blockbuster trade between Houston and Cleveland. Jags cash in on Cambell & Bouye. What is going on in Washington? What will happen in the slow FA RB market?
After another tumultuous week, we talk about Britain's place in the world under a Trump presidency. How much leverage does Theresa May have in Washington? What might a Trump administration want in return? And what does 'global Britain' really mean post-Brexit? Plus we're joined by Glen Rangwala to discuss the implications of Trump's arrival in the White House for US policy towards the Middle East. With Helen Thompson, Aaron Rapport and Chris Brooke. Billionaire George Soros has ties to more than 50 â??partnersâ?? of the Womenâ??s March on Washington What is the link between one of Hillary Clintonâ??s largest donors and the Womenâ??s March? This week we answer some questions, starting in our backyard with Purdue Football and the Bears. Is it more disappointing that Purdue continues to employ Darrell Hazell after the 50-7 Maryland debacle? Where can the Boilermakers realistically find their next coach? Is it really possible for Art Briles to come to West Lafayette to rehab his image? Would Bobinski and Purdue take on those negative headlines? Who had Brian Hoyer throwing over 300 yards and winning a defensive struggle against the Lions? Does Chicago have a QB controversy? Is this the last season in the Windy City for Jay Cutler? Did the Bears make a mistake firing Lovie Smith? Who is Chicago taking if they have the #1 draft pick? Talking some college football, what do we take away from Louisville and Clemson? Is this a year of chaos when it comes to the BCS Invitational? Who are the four teams in the playoffs now? Is Texas A&M the biggest threat to Alabama in the SEC? Pops is still taking LSU. Are we buying Washington? What about an undefeated Houston? What if Michigan has a loss to Ohio State or Louisville runs the table the rest of the way? We were off last week and the coaches changes started so we jump on that, including some of the jobs that we think will open up after the season ends. Todd Herman is likely the biggest coaching candidate so where does he go? Pops thinks LSU isn't done this season and that means we may not say a new name attached to the Tigers next season. Do we think Les Miles will coach next year? How about some coaches that have had success at their programs jumping to a new a ship? Michigan State? Florida State? Moving back to the NFL we answer more questions, like is AP done? Will Adrian Peterson be back with Minnesota next year? We're just about done with week 4 which means Tom Brady will be back, how many more seasons does he play? What will the Patritos do with their young QBs when Brady finally hangs it up? While we're talking back up QBs, what happens when Tony Romo returns? Is this his last season with a star on his helmet? While we're talking signal callers, did Cleveland screw up not taking Carson Wentz? Cody Kessler has looked solid, so what about the Rams with Jared Goff not even close to sniffing the field? Jeff Fisher is an enemy of the podcast. Moving on to baseball, the Cubs clinched NL home field but the question is what player move was the biggest in transforming Chicago into World Series favorites? The brain trust all signed extensions so they'll be in Chicago for awhile, but are we worried that some of the other top level guys will be going to run other teams? Texas has home field through the AL, but is there a bigger threat for them? We get a shot in on the White Sox who hired Rick Renteria to replace Ventura, bad. This week the National Anthem issues aren't part of our beef, but a protest makes Pops' beef. Joakim Noah didn't have dinner with cadets in West Point as a form of protest that really seem to just by piggybacking on the Colin Kaepernick protest. Blair tackles Kirk Herbstreit who lets his homerism show when it comes to the B1G and with College Gameday. Six weeks into the football season and two teams have been part of five of the weeks. It doesn't help that Blair is cheering against Tennessee like Pops is cheering against that school up North.
