Send us a textIt's Episode 101 and while we're gearing up to charge full speed ahead, we're going to take a quick look back at the halcyon days of the fall/winter of 2024 when two earth-shattering comic book movie bombs were unleashed on the cinema going public. We're talking Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie a Deux starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beets and Brendan Gleeson up against JC Chandor's – who are we kidding? Marvel/Sony's Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor Johnson, Russell Crow, Ariana Debose, Fred Hechinger and Alessandro Nivola. I have assembled my team of elite assassins to pick off and pore over these two fearsome digital age fails, starting with my kid sis and charter member of the Sinatra/Silva Karate dojo Roseanne Caputi, Joe Field hypnotist, psychologist author and quite the crooner, as well as the larger than life, accept-no-substitutes, KING of the real estate drone photography jungle, Gordon Alex Robertson. Before we commence wrestle with those CGI bears and saucy tripper chicks, the synopses. Joker: Folie á DeuxIn this follow up to the inexplicable 2019 mega-hit, The Joker, Arthur Fleck, barely subsists at Arkham State Hospital as he awaits trial for the five, technically six murders he committed in the last film. However, he soon gets his zip back when he is allowed to attend a prison music therapy class and is introduced to fellow inmate Harley “Lee” Quinzel. Together, they share a passionate love affair fueled by music, mayhem and delusions of grandeur.Kraven the HunterAfter being mauled to the point of death by a lion, Sergei Kravinoff, son of notorious Trophy hunter and drug kingpin Nicolai Kravinoff, gains enhanced jungle animal abilities and becomes Kraven The Hunter, a sort of bad guy who fights for the little guy against drug dealers. On his quest to prove himself as the ultimate predator, he confronts his father and half-brother Demetri aka the shapeshifting Chameleon while also teaming up with Calypso, a voodoo potion wielding lawyer. Also, he goes up against The Rhino. So how BAD can they BE?Find out!Watch the podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/jRItWg1TTWg

Is it really as bad as everyone says? At the very least there's a LOT to talk about, and everyone takes turns diving deep into Todd Phillips' follow-up to his billion-dollar success!Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 30 minutes discussing 2 favorites from 2024 and 1 favorite first-time watch for 2024, why they're favorites, and a few honorable mentions at the end. I'm happy!”.”.Jen feels the first film is ostensibly a better made product, but found this sequel was far more thought-provoking.Melvin outright liked the movie, saying that he could understand why people didn't like the movie but had extreme difficulty seeing the film as “bad” or even “mid”.All three agree: Joker: Folie a Deux is prime for becoming a future cult classic.Discussing music, the usage of Arthur Fleck's color scheme, embracing artistic flare at the expense of logic, and “build a mountain”.Turning trials of justice into entertainment.Does Arthur deserve to die?Talking Gary Puddles.Talking Lady Gaga's “Lee Quinzel”.Discussing that controversial ending that left a lot of fans sour.Melvin, “It's sad to see [Arthur] go.”Recommendations:Anatomy of a Fall (2023) (Movie)Touch grass (no, literally!)Broad Church (2013-2017) (TV-Show)V/H/S/Beyond (2024) (Movie)MAILBAG: Send questions with your first name and we'll answer them in future episodes! Send us a Text Message. This week on Fabulous Film & Friends we've jumped on that bandwagon and got a full fledged case of Deadpool-mania!That means we're going to discuss all three of Ryan Reynolds happy little R-rated capers which started in 2016 with Deadpool directed by Tim Miller, starring Ryan Reynolds, TJ Miller Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapicic, Ed Skrein, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Gina Carano. Then continued with 2018's Deadpool 2, directed by David Lietch and starring pretty much the same cast minus Skrein and Carano with the addition of Josh Brolin, Zazie Beets, Julian Dennison, and Rob Delaney. And capped off with the most marketed and hyped movie of my lifetime, 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Mr. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as well as a good portion of the previous supporting cast in cameos along with Matthew MacFadyen and Emma Corrin as villains. I'm Gino Caputi and my solitary guest today is author, hypnotherapist and comic book shop royalty Joe Field. I have to announce that Deadpool & Wolverine raked in 440 million over the July 26th 2024 weekend, the highest opening weekend box office haul for an R rated film ever. Was it Ryan Reynolds' and Hugh Jackman's over-the top marketing strategy of appearing on nearly every talk show and commercial for a month that helped or hurt its box office. Could it have been more if they hadn't seemed so transparently mercenary? Before we get into it, the synopses:Deadpool 1-3 are about Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. the “Merc with a Mouth” a cynical 4th wall breaking character who makes scores of naughty puns while killing bad guys in over-the-top grotesque CGI enhanced ways. His powers are just like Wolverine's, he's unkillable because he heals and regenerates faster than it takes for his body's functions to shut down due to loss of blood. Or something like that. Which Deadpool Film gets the killshot?Find out!Follow the FFF Facebook page!https://www.facebook.com/groups/fabulousfilmandfriendsWatch the podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/mJStFakR5RI

Editor - Tom Eagles ACE THE HARDER THEY FALL editor, Tom Eagles ACE first made a name for himself with his ACE Eddie-winning work on JOJO RABBIT (2019); a film for which he was also nominated for an Oscar® for Best Film Editing. Looking to expand his career and broaden the scope of the work he could choose from, Tom was in the process of moving his family from his native New Zealand to Los Angeles, while he took on a new project with first-time director, Jeymes Samuel. Due to the impact of COVID, that move was delayed and Tom wound up cutting his new film back home in New Zealand. In addition to directing THE HARDER THEY FALL, Jeymes Samuel is also known as a singer, songwriter and music producer who travels under the name "The Bullitts". For his first time out as a filmmaker, Samuel has crafted a revisionist Western with a distinct emphasis on visual style and, of course, musicality. THE HARDER THEY FALL is also one of the few, if not only, Westerns whose principal cast members are all Black and all the characters they play in the film are real. The standout cast is anchored by actors; Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Regina King, Delroy Lindo, RJ Cyler, Zazie Beets and Lakeith Stanfield. TOM EAGLES ACE Back in his home country of New Zealand, Tom Eagles built his career on a foundation of work with director, Taika Waititi. Projects such as; WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (2014), HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE (2016), the TV series WELLINGTON PARANORMAL (2018) and their critically-acclaimed film, JOJO RABBIT (2019). Now working full time in Los Angeles after completing THE HARDER THEY FALL, Eagles is once again reuniting with Waititi for his next film. Editing The Harder They Fall In our discussion with THE HARDER THEY FALL editor, Tom Eagles ACE, we talk about: Managing a story with a large cast The punctuation of freeze frames, stings and split screens Having a director "sing" you the script The enduring analog method of "pen and paper" note taking Being a working editor in New Zealand vs Hollywood The Credits Get your free 100GB of media transfer at MASV Visit ExtremeMusic for all your production audio needs Check out the free trial of Media Composer | Ultimate Hear Tom Eagles talk about his work on Jojo Rabbit Subscribe to The Rough Cut podcast and never miss an episode Visit The Rough Cut on YouTube

Nathan Ballingrud has a wonderfully demented imagination. He has a way of reaching into your brain and finding all of those creepy little corners where you hide the things that make you cringe and make your skin crawl. In his first collection of stories, North American Lake Monsters, there was a bit more realism in his stories and characters. Hulu has optioned that, and will start shooting an anthology series this summer. In Wounds: Six Stories from the Border of Hell, he goes for broke, to the point where he was worried he might be going over the top. Not worried enough, though, to pull anything back. In “Atlas of Hell,” a decapitated skull allows a mob lackey fetch demons and objects from the underworld. In “The Diabolist,” a young girl is left alone in her scientist father's mansion when he dies with an imp trapped in a tank, and starts to fight back against the town that has always ostracized her. In “Skullpocket,” flesh-eating ghouls sponsor a deadly fair for children. In “The Visible Filth,” which is now a film called Wounds on the festival circuit starring Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, and Zazie Beets, a bartender in a New Orleans dive fights his own jealousy and a mysterious stranger who contacts him through a phone left behind at the bar after a fight. Nightmare creatures attack a town and flay its inhabitants to make giant, singing skin structures in “”The Maw,” and pirates take, quite literally, a journey to the shores of Hell in “The Butcher's Table.” I talked to Ballingrud about his inspiration for these stories, which included Stephen King and Mike Mignola, how they're all connected, the new film, and more. He finds all of this creepiness quite fun, which is good for us, because he's got more stories on the way, and a full-length book he's working on to release in 2021, which he says is set on Mars in 1930. You can find out more about his work on nathanballingrud.com and find him on Twitter under @NBallingrud. Our featured track this week is a cover of the Rolling Stones' “Sympathy for the Devil” from their longtime backup singer Bernard Fowler. This is a spoken-word version of the song, as are all of the Stones covers on the new album, Inside Out. Fowler has been singing with the Stones for more than three decades now, and had the idea that he could put the lyrics up front by covering the songs in this style. He started doing it at soundchecks on tour with the Stones, and told Mick Jagger at one point he planned to cut an album. Jagger apparently gave his blessing, and the album was born. Fowler is getting ready for the new Stones tour now, and I caught him before a rehearsal to talk about his album and his history with not only the Stones, but Herbie Hancock, Bootsy Collins, and more. Tune in next week for that. If you want to check out more of his work, you can find it on Spotify and check out his site at bernardfowler.com.

We review the most recent superhero blockbuster ‘Deadpool 2’ (Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beets) as well as two indie flicks; Olivier Assayas’ recently restored French film, ‘Cold Water’ (Virginie Ledoyen, Cyprien Fouquet) and Michael Pearce’s ‘Beast’ (Jessie Buckley, Johnny Flynn, Geraldine James). We gush over Rob Delaney’s online persona, fall in love with the new Backstreet Boys track, and aren’t afraid to get a little pretentious. Westworld chat continues.
The Minori-Team of Podcasting return to review TWO Game of Thrones episodes this week! Ironically the 4th episode "The Spoils of War" was spoiled for everyone by leaking early - but that just means we get to talk about it the morning after the official air date (for once)! We also review Season 3 of Voltron on Netflix, the latest episode of Rick and Morty, and discuss a bunch of news of the week like the controversial Domino casting of Zazie Beets! Check out the full episode breakdown below: EPISODE BREAKDOWN: 0:06:31 - Game of Thrones EP3: Queen's Justice 0:35:53 - Game of Thrones EP4: The Spoils of War 1:12:32 - Voltron Season 3 Review 1:35:58 - Rick And Morty: Rickmancing The Stone Review 1:45:42 - News of the Week And if you enjoyed the episode - leave us a review on iTunes! Man, this was a fun one. We break down the next Marvel/Netflix show Iron Fist, a super fun pulp comedy with Michael K. Williams Hap and Leonard, a sweet Netflix original movie Deidra & Laney Rob a Train and Beauty and the Beast. We also prepare ourselves for how awesome Atomic Blonde looks. Some news this week includes a Matrix reboot, a Girl with the Dragon Tattoo recast, and Zazie Beets joining Deadpool 2. Tons of jokes and tons of laughs. This week's music: Passionfruit - Drake Dead Presidents - Rick Ross ft. Future, Jeezy, Yo Gotti
008 is ferocious as Justin quickly shares his recent revelations about the upcoming superhero flicks Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor 3, and just how awful the bottom-tier X-Men films were. Seriously....it's getting bad. Real bad. Zazie Beets as Domino in Deadpool 2...does this upset you? X-Men franchise: what does the future hold?
