By popular demand we're re-airing this highly downloaded episode! Enrollment Edge is digging into yet another digital strategy that Enrollment Leaders must be paying attention to—E.A.T. or Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. In this episode, Jay will unpack the E.A.T. concept and why it's so important to SEO development. The concept comes from Google's search quality rater guidelines, and it became well known after the infamous Medic Update in August 2018. E.A.T. is an important, and often overlooked, evaluation that Google uses to evaluate the overall quality of a web page. While enrollment marketing and enrollment professionals are focusing on the mechanics of SEO, what they should be developing is broader and significantly more important. About Our GuestOur Guest today is a lead and web development specialist and consultant, Rory Green. As the President of a community college, Dr. Downey has a deep interest in the evolution of higher education to meet the growing needs of today's workforce. As you will hear in the episode, there are stark realities facing all of all of us in the coming decades. Much of our conversation connects with a recent article by Emsi called the Demographic Drought – the coming sans-demic. We'll talk about the immediate labor force needs and how higher education must find a response to the widening gap between those needs and traditional degrees, in order to avoid a "Hunger Games" recruitment environment. About Our GuestDr. John A. Downey became the fifth President of Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, Virginia, in 2009. Today on the Enrollment Edge we revisit the test-optional discussion. Pre-Pandemic, only a handful of colleges had adopted an admissions policy that didn't consider standardized tests like the ACT or SAT. Today there are nearly 2000 colleges that have moved in this direction, many of them in response to canceled test dates, and the complications of requiring something from an applicant that they could no longer reasonably provide the college. In this Edge episode Jay talks to Joe Montgomery, Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success at Tuskegee University, about Tuskegee's decision to no longer require standardized tests from applicants, as well as the ongoing decision to maintain that policy even after testing options have normalized. Jay and Joe talk through the purpose of standardized tests and what could replace them if the college's goal is successful placement and college success. About Our GuestFor over 20-years, Mr. Joseph Montgomery has been a noteworthy leader in the college admissions/enrollment space. He has experience with admission work at HBCUs and Private Selective Colleges throughout the United States' southeastern region. In episode 27, Jay talks with Andy Woodall, Executive Director of Recruitment and Admissions at Shenandoah University about successfully bringing faculty into the recruitment process. None of us doubt the high impact of members of a college community engaging prospective students. Most enrollment leaders will build relationships with coaches, staff, and faculty in order to fully connect with prospects, and set their college ahead of other options a student may be considering. Yet, getting faculty to commit to recruiting isn't as simple as it might sound. We talk about the importance of drawing faculty into the recruiting business, the key to bringing university leadership into the conversation, showing results and appreciation to faculty at the end of the recruitment cycle, and how to help the faculty to see that they are, in fact, caring for and shaping their future classrooms. As the old saying goes, if it takes a whole village to raise a child, it takes a whole university to recruit a one.  About our GuestAndy Woodall is the Assistant Vice-President for Recruitment and Admissions and Shenandoah University where he manages the coordination of all the University's recruitment efforts for First-Year, Transfer, and Graduate students. Andy stresses the importance of authenticity in how University's represent themselves to prospective students so that prospective students and their families can make the most informed college choice. This philosophy, along with centering the recruitment work around putting the needs of the student first has resulted in several record-breaking incoming classes at Shenandoah University. Outside of his work with students, you can usually find Andy close to or on a soccer field (either watching or coaching his two daughters) or in his kitchen at home, likely making too big of a mess (much to his wife's chagrin), but having a lot of fun doing it.

Belmont Abbey was one of the very first test-optional policy adopters in the country. Just two years ago, there were a few hundred colleges and universities that were considered test-optional. As many testing dates were canceled or delayed in the name of public health during the pandemic, thousands of colleges have adopted, both temporarily and permanently, a test-optional policy to help admit students even without available test scores.  Jay will discuss with Martin the benefits and challenges of a test-optional admissions policy from the perspective of an early adopter and what lessons he has learned after more than a decade of practicing this controversial policy.
