In Episode 15 I talk about the massive online phenomenon that is TikTok.Statistics that matterAs of 2020 TikTok has 800 million active users worldwide.TikTok has been downloaded 1.5 billion times on the Google Play Store and the App Store.TikTok was downloaded 33 million times in quarter 1 of 2019 in the Apple App store making it the most downloaded app.TikTok users spend an average of 52 minutes a day on the app.TikTok has over 467 million users in India, 173.2 million users in China, and 123 .8 million users in the United States.TikTok is currently available in 155 countries around the world. What's even more amazing is that it's available in 75 different languages.A growing number of US adults are using TikTok. In the final quarter of 2017, there were 2.6 million active adult users on TikTok. This increased to 7.2 million just 12 months later. My guest today is Melody Miles. Melody and I recently got connected through Instagram. Melody worked for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as a scientist, diplomat.Melody is now a writer and recovering-humanitarian, who helped launch the global effort to eradicate malaria. She has traveled to the far corners of the planet listening to the voices of the poor, representing the voices of the rich, and chasing after an extraordinary life. All her efforts checking boxes, saying yes, and surpassing milestones landed her the life she thought she wanted. Then her life unexpectedly collided head-on with heartbreak and she lost everything: her mom, her husband, her home, and dreams of having a family. In the wake of this pain, after all her attempts to muster her way forward failed, she started wondering if maybe it’s not the strength of our calculating minds - but the softness of our hearts - that heals us and brings us back to life.
