Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com    Listen up you moron, Im trying to tell you something you thick headed, no good for nothing piece of crap… how dumb are you… now shut up and listen…. And thats where we are going today.    Proverbs 27:5-7 5 An open rebuke is better than hidden love! 6 Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. 7 A person who is full refuses honey, but even bitter food tastes sweet to the hungry.     We need more than Godly friends in this season of life… we need Godly honest friends who speak truth to us.      1 - Consider the source An open rebuke is better than hidden love! V. 5 Consider the source. The most uncomfortable way… OPEN It's still better than hidden. “Bob you stink as a parent” - in front of everyone. **This is still better than not dealing with the problem in Bobs life or blaming the kids.    When we are on the receiving end of an open rebuke…  We want to excuse the rebuke due to the method or the timing or the person… but wait, it says better an open rebuke than no rebuke at all. Don't let the messenger or the method steal the urgency and the value behind a good rebuke. It could cost you if you don't listen. That rebuke might be the difference between $20 and $20,000,000.    Wether or not that person has earned the right to speak to you… don't miss the point and value of a good rebuke.    Husbands fear when their wives say “honey we need to talk” - why? Because 99% of the time she wants to talk about what he has to change, or what he did wrong or needs to work on. And even in those situations when it is really hard to have open ears to a strong word… you need to.    When someone gives you a rebuke a great way to respond to the situation is ask yourself…  "How did I get here?” Meaning, why are they rebuking me.    1) “Who are my sources? Who am I around?" Are you being rebuked in a Godly way by Godly people? If not why?      2) "What are these associations/sources doing to me?" That's a major question to ask. What have they got me doing, listening to, reading, thinking and feeling? You've got to make a serious study of how others are influencing you, both negatively and positively.   3) "Is this okay?”     In 1964 Bob Hayes was named the fastest man in history. In the 1964 Olympics bringing home the Gold Medal in the 100 meter run, and being clocked at incredible 8.5 seconds in the final 110 yards of 400 meter relay run. After the Olympics, he became an all-pro wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. He would later on be inducted into the USA Olympic HOF and the NFL HOF… at Florida A&M His college coach said that if there had ever been a kid he wished was his, it was Bob Hayes. Yet in 1979 he received a total of 10 years in prison for selling narcotics to an undercover police officer. When coaches and family were interviewed as to how this could happen it came down to this… his inability to choose the right sources to be around.

Today's podcast features Henk Kraaijenhof.  Henk has several decades of experience as a performance coach in a broad array of sports.  His coaching credentials include working track athletes such as Nelli Cooman (former 60m dash world record holder), Merlene Ottey, and Troy Douglas as well as elite team sport competitors. His specialties are physical and mental coaching, stress and stress management, technology, and the methodology or training.  In addition to world-level performance, Henk's coaching has also bred longevity, as Ottey and Douglas ran world class times in their 40's. In the current coaching age, it's easy to think that because we are doing “new” looking drills, have increased our data collection, and have created various technical models of sport skill, we have a massive edge on what athletes were doing 50 years ago.  At the same time, general trends in injury rates and performance markers should have us thinking twice (for example, Bob Hayes running 9.99s in the 100m in 1964 on a chewed up cinder track).  At the end of the day, it is more “core” elements of training philosophy that stand the test of time, and help us to better understand the needs of the athlete in front of us. On today's show, Henk digs into speed training through the decades, and how many perceived “new school” elements, are actually much older than we think they are.  He talks about how he approaches “technical models” of sport skill (sprinting specifically), coaching the current generation of athletes, and where our modern world is heading in general on the level of technology.  He talks about the skill of patience in our current coaching environment, and shares some key philosophical ideas on the nature of coaching track and team sport athletes, and what we can learn from nature itself.  Finally, Henk gives his views on his own current technology use in his coaching role. Timestamps and Main Points 3:18 – What prompted Henk's return to coaching sprinting, and key themes he has brought from his learnings in the hiatus 16:58 – Henk's take on coaching sprint technique, technical models, and a “no system” approach 24:31 – Where and how Henk looks to make changes in an athletes training, and mistakes he made in the past listening to other coaches and opinions 31:44 – Henk's take on the current generation of athletes from his perspective, as well as the role of technology in modern society in general 38:08 – Philosophy of the role of sport in modern society, and what Henk really values in the process of athletic training and performance 50:16 – Autocratic vs. democratic forms of coaching, and impacts on performance 54:54 – How much technology Henk uses today in coaching a single athlete, versus coaching multiple athletes as a younger coach 1:05:42 – Henk's view of nature in training, and both observation Henk Kraaijenhof Quotes “One difference is that you can film everything now (vs. 2004), everything has become more focused on data processing than before; the smartphone took away a bit of the human aspect of it” “You see a lot of people trying to hit the track really hard now, you see a lot of hamstring injuries, after this trend came” “You don't have a frontside (mechanic) without a backside (mechanic)” “If you go against your natural preference (in sprinting) you might be in trouble” “We are lousy jumpers compared to the flea, the cat, the monkey” “Most coaches fall in love with their own school” “Why do you think it could be better if you change it; why is it not the most optimal way the athlete already chose?” “Patience is one thing that is readily declining”

This 3min episode informs those who are blessed by God not only turn from evil but also build their lives around the words of the LORD. They seek to obey God's will out of hearts that genuinely take pleasure in God's ways and commandments whereas the wicked perish because they refused to love the truth. What motivates their actions are their redeemed spirits and emotions, captivated by the truth of God as found in His Word. Those seeking to live under God's blessing meditate on God's law (i.e., His Word) in order to shape their thinking, attitudes, and actions. They read the words of Scripture, ponder them, and compare them with other Scriptures. When meditating on a passage in the Bible, questions such as these cross their minds. Is God's Spirit applying this verse to my present situation? Is there a promise here for me to claim? Is the passage revealing a particular sin I must strive to avoid? Is God issuing a command I must obey? Is my spirit in harmony with what the Holy Scripture is saying? Is the passage expressing a truth about God, salvation, sin, the world, or my personal obedience on which I need to be enlightened by the Holy Spirit? These I ponder. Blessings, Elder Barbara TTECB|CSB/FL

Dr. Bob Hayes, will be the first to tell you that he’s a dataphile. Ever since he took a stats course in college in the 80s, Bob’s been hooked on data. Currently, Bob is the Research and Analytics Director at Indigo Slate. He’s also the president of Business over Broadway, a consultancy he founded in 2007.In a past life, Bob served as Chief Research Officer at Appuri and AnalyticsWeek, Chief Customer Officer at TCELab, and a contributing analyst at Gleanster, among many other roles. In today’s episode, Bob and I discuss a recent Kaggle survey that highlighted several key non-technical impediments to effective data science projects. In addition to outlining what those challenges are and exploring potential solutions to them, we also covered: The three key skills successful data science teams have Why improving customer loyalty involves analyzing several metrics, not just one Why Bob feels the scientific method is just as important today as it’s been for hundreds of years The importance of repeatable results How prototyping early can save time and drive adoption of data science projects Bob’s advice on how to move data science projects forward (and one key skill he feels most business leaders lack) The role of the analytics translator Resources and Links: Dr. Bob Hayes on LinkedIn Seeing Theory Calling Bullshit Doctor Bob Hayes on Twitter Business Over Broadway IndigoSlate Quotes from Today's Episode “I've always loved data. I took my first stats course in college over 30 years ago and I was hooked immediately. I love data. Sometimes I introduce myself as a dataholic. I love it.” — Bob “I'm a big fan of just kind of analyzing data, just getting my hands on data, just exploring it. But that can lead you down a path of no return where you're just analyzing data just to analyze it. What I try to tell my clients is that when you approach a data set, have a problem that you're trying to solve. The challenge there I think it stems from the fact that a lot of data science teams don't have a subject matter expert on the team to pose the right questions.” — Bob "The three findings that I found pretty interesting were, number one, a lack of a clear question to be answering or a clear direction to go in with the available data. The second one was that data science results were not used by the business decision makers. And the third one was an inability to integrate findings into the organization's decision making processes.” — Brian “It makes you wonder,‘if you didn't have a good problem to solve, maybe that's why [the findings] didn't get used in the first place.’" — Brian “That part isn't so much the math and the science. That's more the psychology and knowing how people react. Because you're going to have certain business stakeholders that still want to kind of shoot from the hip and their experience. Their gut tells them something. And sometimes that gut is really informed.” — Brian “If executives are looking at data science and AI as a strategic initiative, it seems really funny to me that someone wouldn't be saying, ‘What do we get out of this? What are the next steps?’ when the data teams get to the end of a project and just moves on to the next one." — Brian Transcript Brian: Dr. Bob H

Tom Leyden and Butch Stearns are joined by Pro Football Hall of Famer Bob Lilly as they tell the story of the 1971 NFL season. The Cowboys finally broke through to win their first championship after knocking on the door so many times in the late 60s and early 70s. Dallas had lost two NFL Championship Games to the Packers, two playoff games to the Browns and then Super Bowl V to the Baltimore Colts. The 1971 season also featured the longest game ever played, when the Dolphins beat the Chiefs 27-24 on Christmas Day in the AFC Divisional Playoffs. Butch has vivid memories of Ed Podolak's effort not only that day, but throughout the season. The Dolphins benefited from an upset win by the Patriots over the Colts in the final week of the regular season to clinch home field advantage in the playoffs. Baltimore and Miami, fierce division rivals, met the the AFC Championship Game. In the NFC, the Minnesota Vikings once again finished with the best record, this time tied with Dallas, only to suffer bitter and familiar disappointment in the playoffs. Alan Page was named MVP in 1971, the first time a defensive player had ever earned the honor. After the Super Bowl V loss, Dallas’ GM Tex Schramm did everything in his power to make sure the Cowboys wouldn’t lose in the Super Bowl the next year. He added future Hall of Famers Forrest Gregg and Lance Alworth to a team that already boasted the likes of Lilly, Mel Renfro, Roger Staubach, Rayfield Wright, Bob Hayes, Herb Adderley and Mike Ditka. Add to that group the leadership of legendary coach Tom Landry and you had the makings of a fantastic squad, which is what the Cowboys were in 1971. You can argue the 1971 Cowboys are among the best teams to ever play in the NFL. They only surrendered one touchdown in the postseason and to this day, remain the only team not to surrender a touchdown in the Super Bowl. The Doomsday Defense stymied the Miami Dolphins in a 24-3 win in Super Bowl VI. Bob Lilly, now age 77 and still living in Texas, shares great perspective on the Cowboys run to the title: - The commitment the Cowboys players made to each other after losing to Baltimore in Super Bowl V - The Flex defense, how and why it worked for so long - What veteran players like Forrest Gregg, Herb Adderley and Lance Alworth added to the team that made a difference - The impact Roger Staubach had on the offense after he was named the full-time starting quarterback when the Cowboys were 4-3 - The game plan to beat the Dolphins and how Don Shula called the Cowboys defensive performance the best he’d ever seen - The genius of Tom Landry and how it translated to success on the field - The underrated Cowboys backfield of Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill and Walt Garrison - The competitiveness that still exists when the five Cowboys championship teams get together and how Staubach can still sling it Please LIKE our Facebook page and spread the word about our podcast.
