While Good Things 2024 boasts a stellar line-up of hard rock and metal bands - including Korn, Kerry King, Northlane, Alpha Wolf and From Ashes To New - the band on everybody's lips as a must see on the day is Mastodon.Since emerging in 2000 the Atlanta quartet have defied both sonic and thematic boundaries with an uncategorizable, undeniable, and uncompromising vision unlike anything else in music. Quite simply, Mastodon have quietly evolved into one of the most influential, inimitable, and iconic rock bands of the modern era.Following their recent collaboration on single Floods Of Triton with Lamb Of God, Mastodon have found themselves in perpetual motion on the road, leading them all the way to Australia where fans are already counting down the days.HEAVY caught up with drummer Brann Dailor to find out more. We start by asking if he gets excited about touring as part of a festival line-up as he does his own headlining shows."They're different," he mused. "I'm just happy to be there. I'm excited to get up on stage and play in front of anybody. I don't care if there's five people there, I don't care if there's 10,000 people there, I give the same exact show every time. I'm not gonna say if it's something crazy like opening for Iron Maiden… there's been moments in my life with big shows that I'm very, very excited to be a part of it, but I like playing. I like being at festivals. I don't care if we're playing during the day or if it's at night. (I've had) A lot of pinch me moments in my life where I can't believe I do this for a living. I try to ride it out (laughs)."In the full interview, Brann goes through some of the other bands on the Good Things line-up and shares experiences playing with them, reveals what we can expect from Mastodon live, their new song with Lamb Of God, creating music with another metal heavyweight, upcoming new material, and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
The incomparable drummer, singer and lyricist for the Grammy winning band Mastodon, Brann Dailor zooms into the show from a tour stop in Calgary to familiarize us with his 1.5 year old boxer Beefcake and his beloved previous dogs Chloe and Thriller. We talk dog butt art, raising puppies, how dogs lift your self esteem and more. Brann and Mastodon will be playing the Louder Than Life festival on Saturday September 28th and Aftershock on October 11th before heading to Australia in December. For tickets visit mastodonrocks.com/tour Brann chose to give a shout out to the Atlanta Humane Society whose goal is deeply motivated by the desire to keep pets in their loving homes: they seek to improve the lives and well-being of pets and people, collectively and perhaps most importantly, one life, one need, one animal at a time.
It's always a treat to talk about “hometown” metal, especially when it's one of the heaviest, most modern, progressive metal bands in the entire genre. Actually, to call them “prog” might be a bit misleading, although “progressive” is certainly an apropos descriptor for the shared artistic odyssey which Brann Dailor, Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher, and Troy Sanders (collectively known as MASTODON) had embarked upon more than 20 years ago and are still going strong with no sign of stopping any time soon. Perhaps the more accurate description of MASTODON is “Atlanta's own shamans of megalithic, caveman powered, super technical, stoner sludge prog metal” (and any other applicable subgenres we might've missed). It's time to get “in the loop” and fully comprehend the best way NOT to drive down Blood Mountain to minimize vehicular induced toddler vomitus whilst mentally preparing to welcome “B.G.” to the “T&T Main Stage” as we do our best to “MRFA” while screaming excerpts from “Brave Tales of Taintler” into the “echo chamber” as you JOIN US for the “pure girth” of MASTODON Inside The Metal (ATL-Edition), Chapter 1: The Aughts (2000-2009). This week on The MetalSucks Podcast, we've got the one and only Brann Dailor, of Mastodon! Since the band's upcoming tour with Gojira and Lorna Shore is coming up soon, we get down to business and discuss topics like why they have two legs booked of their upcoming tour. We also chat about the time they had two weeks' notice for their first post-pandemic show, what went into the decision of performing a majority of songs of their latest album while on tour, and how that setlist conversation occurs with the Mastodon camp. Dailor also chats about the art of playing the right deep cut for the fans, what he feels is the sweet spot for the length of a concert, what food he wishes he did not see backstage after a show, and how his diet has changed through the years as a touring musician. Aside from the interview, Petar and Sylvia discuss the tragic events that occurred at the Morbid Angel show in Illinois over the weekend, as well as our thoughts about yet another mass shooting at an American elementary school. They also find the time to talk about the six arena headliners performing at the inaugural Power Trip Festival. Mastodon is a band that's on it's 22nd year of existence and has done nothing but turned heads along the way. Their latest album is called 'Hushed and Grim' and in a day and age where everyone is listening to singles and supposedly doesn't care about albums, they released a double album. Now that it's been out for a while and to celebrate the release of their latest single from it "Peach and Tranquility" we catch up with drummer/singer Brann Dailor.

Mastodons Drummer Brann Dailor is from Rochester NY. Metal Mayhem ROC originates from Rochester NY. So, our Paths have crossed throughout the years. Brann joins the Metal Mayhem ROC guys to discuss his memories and special “METAL MOMENTS” growing up in ‘THE ROC”. Show host Jon “The Vernomatic” Verno welcomes show contributors ‘'Metal Walt” and Bill Lander – vocalist for the band ORDER OF THE DEAD, to the discussion. Bill and Brann became good friends in early 90's when Brann was a young metal head growing up here in Rochester. The two take a walk down ‘HEAVY METAL MEMORY LANE”. Brann shares stories of when Cannibal Corpse jammed in his basement, comments on a circulating pic of a 16-year-old, mullet sporting metal head. How Kerry King and Gary Holt gave him shit about it. Metal Walt takes a deep dive into the new 2021 release of Hushed and Grim with song commentary and questions regarding the release. They discuss the fall tour and plans for touring the rest of 2022. It's a fun discussion with many Mastodon and Brann Dailor antidotes never revealed before. https://metalmayhemroc.com/- Metal Mayhem ROC website https://metaldevastationradio.com/- Metal Mayhem ROC LIVE- Radio show https://twitter.com/MetalmayhemR- Metal Mayhem ROC on Twitter https://www.facebook.com/groups/metalmayhemroc- Metal Mayhem ROC on Face Book https://metalmayhemroc.podbean.com- Metal Mayhem ROC Podcast site.

Hell Bent For Metal celebrates when White Ward very recently stood Side By Side with us, and made their stand against homophobia completely clear in as vocal a way as they could. As they're one of the hosts' favourite bands, this one felt personal. In a very, very good way.The absolutely classic Dio anthem 'Holy Diver' is this week's Camp Classic, as both Tom and Matt immediately agree that it speaks to their queer sides, in many different ways – which leads to a bucketload of digressions about growing up queer. There's some brief queer metal news regarding Bloodstock and Mastodon.Plus there's the usual visit to the Hate Crew Gaybar, where this week's picks for the jukebox are Swagger And Stroll Down The Rabbit Hole by Diablo Swing Orchestra, and Diorama by Møl. And it's safe to say that there has never been less agreement in the bar.
Higgo speaks with Brann Dailor, Drummer and singer for Mastodon about their brand new album ,Hushed and Grim (out now) They discuss the songs, the meanings, the emotion, the importance of sequencing, how they work as a band, and their enormous 'riff bank' See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On March 24th, 1999 the heavens parted and the world was gifted the glory of "Crack the Skye," the fourth album from Mastodon. Their second outing on a major label, it's a sprawling prog-rock opus, sparing no expense to craft majestic riffs and killer hooks that ten years continue to reveal nuances and intricacies folks are talking about. Or at least we are. Chris, Dan, and Josh sit down to talk about the role the album and the band had on their lives, the introduction of Brann Dailor as a major vocal contributor, and the evolution of Mastodon from "Remission" all the up to 2017's "Emperor of Sand." Much is made about opening and closing tracks, references to Judas Priest are made, and rankings are established for you the public to rail against. We also get to hear Josh's daughter accompany the podcast on piano. Agree? Disagree? Either way, this chat was a ton of fun for us and we hope you enjoy it, too. Niyaz Pirani and Clint Keaton on the digital ones and twos, providing you with music reviews and news! This week we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of Mastodon's Crack the Skye. Fire, Water, and Earth. Mastodon has addressed almost all of the classic elements in their concept albums (air being the exception), but there is one mystic element that serves as the basis for Crack the Skye: aether. We discuss the spiritual, ethereal textures of epic tracks such as "The Czar" and Niyaz's personal favorite, "The Last Baron", to the otherworldly tones of Clint's favorite, "Ghosts of Karelia." We take you on Mastodon's wild ride from paraplegic wormhole travellers, to the mysterious Russian mystic Rasputin, to the tragedy of drummer/singer Brann Dailor's sister, Skye's passing. Drum-Wiz Brann Dailor has been ripping, grooving, filling and generally shredding the last 20 years with Mastodon, formerly Today is the Day and more recently with his new synth project Arcadea. This was a week of diversions. Eden is back in his land, and I've seen Metallica live and am super amazed by them. Also, new music by Exist, Origin, Steven Wilson, and Rings of Saturn. Then we talk about some happenings. The shitshow surrounding The Faceless missing their New Zealand tour, Chester of Linkin Park telling fans to stab themselves in the face, and the sexual assault allegations leveled against PWR BTTM and the implications of that. Then Eden recommends some music - Brutus, Subetroth, and Arcadea featuring Brann Dailor of Mastodon. We then go into a cool people section discussing Get Out, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Then, just as we're about to finish up, Eden mentions his Re:publica experience, and we go into an extended discussion about the ethical responsibilities of the tech industry to explain themselves. Enjoy!

For 15 years, Mastodon has been one of America's most consistent bands, whether they're making concept records based on "Moby Dick" or catchy hard-rock anthems in the mold of classic bands from the 70s and 80s. It hasn't always been easy — the making of the band's latest LP, "Emperor of Sand," was marred by personal tragedies and hardships suffered by all of the members. Steve talks with the band's drummer and lyricist, Brann Dailor, about how Mastodon has thrived and survived for so long in this special bonus episode.
We kicked off the show talking about the controversial story earlier this week about the porno filmed at a metal festival. We were also joined by Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor, who talked about the band's current tour with Clutch, his side project, Arcadea, jamming with his wife, and stories about his grandparents jamming with Johnny Cash. In hour two, we spend a lot of time talking about Khia, geriatric pro wrestling legend Verne Gagne, foreskin facial masks and our question of the week, Which band do you want to stop recording new music and just tour?. It's no secret that the music business is a wild industry, but every now and then it comes with its perks. On this High Five Clip from The What Podcast, Brann Dailor of Mastodon tells the story of how the band managed to appear as extras on HBO's legendary drama Game of Thrones.Making a pair of cameos in two different seasons, Dailor explains how the opportunity arose, the band's reaction, and what it was like portraying a wilding. “I looked over and I saw Bill [Kelliher], my guitar player, was asleep in the mud,” Dailor recalled. “And we were about to have our cue that we were supposed to get up, and I think that he woke up at the last second. Otherwise, he was about to be that guy amongst hundreds of extras that were laying in the mud.”Listen to The What Podcast chatting with Brann Dailor here or watch it via YouTube.
