What do you do when you're misrepresented, insulted, or spoken about unfairly? Jesus calls moments like these blessed—not because they feel good, but because they form us. Persecution isn't a sign that something has gone wrong; it's often proof that God is doing something right. In this final week of our Good News for Broken Hearts series, Alan helps us see that every assignment attracts adversaries as we sit under the text. Bitterness shrinks the heart. Love enlarges it. When we pray instead of react, when we stay patient instead of demanding, God uses what hurts to shape what lasts. Our pain can either harden us or become holy ground—an invitation to deeper purpose. Jesus calls us salt and light—people who don't hide, don't withdraw, and don't let darkness define them. Your pain isn't pointless; it's potential. Don't waste it. The harvest on the other side of tears is real. If you've ever wondered how to keep your heart soft when life goes below the belt, this message is for you. God doesn't just heal broken hearts—He enlarges them.

Brokenheartedness is a reality because we live in a broken world, and every person carries unseen burdens. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar remind believers that Scripture—not empty platitudes—offers true comfort. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and gives rest to those who turn to Him. The pain and trials believers face are meant to draw them closer to God and loosen their attachment to the world. While the world offers temporary distractions, Christ provides lasting hope. In Him alone can the believer find healing, purpose, and peace. The guys warn about the dangers that come with a broken heart, such as bitterness and self-pity. There is a time to mourn, but also a time to move forward, holding onto Christ's hand in faith. As ambassadors for Christ, believers are called to live in a way that reflects hope even in seasons of grief. When love leads to pain, they are reminded that Jesus Himself wept, showing that He cares deeply about human sorrow. God draws near to those who suffer, transforming their pain into something meaningful and purposeful. Mourning should also be for sin itself, leading believers to the cross where forgiveness and healing are found. Every person is a sinner, a sufferer, and a saint, and remembering this truth helps foster compassion for others who are dealing with brokenness without knowing the Savior.God never wastes sorrow. The guys discuss how suffering shapes believers, strengthens faith, and equips them to comfort others. When life brings us low, believers are reminded to look up and trust that God is working for their good. Oscar reflects on Christ's glorified body, which still bears the scars of the cross—now marks of redemption and glory. Similarly, the wounds believers carry on earth become part of their eternal testimony. Trials produce endurance, character, and empathy, enabling them to comfort others with the same comfort they have received from God. Joy is found not in circumstances but in knowing the promises of God, who is faithful and true.Through every season of heartbreak, believers are called to run to Christ, cry out in prayer, and anchor themselves in His Word. The Psalms exemplify a faith that seeks God while trusting in His goodness. Christians are also reminded not to isolate themselves, but to lean on the body of Christ for strength and encouragement. Within gospel community, believers find renewed hope and perspective. Finally, eternal-mindedness keeps our eyes fixed on heaven, where every wound and sorrow will be redeemed. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and in His presence, there is rest, healing, and everlasting peace.Send us a textThanks for listening! What resulted was a 126 day 1,500 mile journey across four states by a band of Nez Perce who were attempting to escape forced relocation. They were relentlessly and violently pursued by the U.S. Army, eluding and fighting them for months through mountain ranges and within Yellowstone National Park before ultimately being forced into a corner just 40 miles from Canada - and freedom. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2021 conversation with Richard Marx. ABOUT RICHARD MARX:Grammy-winning performer Richard Marx has sold more than 30 million albums as an artist, but if you only know him from late 1980s ballads such as “Hold on to the Nights” and “Right Here Waiting,” you only know part of the story. A prolific songwriter, Marx has landed fourteen songs at the top of various Billboard charts, and has written a #1 single in each of the last four decades. His genre-crossing songwriting success includes “What About Me” and “Crazy,” which Kenny Rogers carried to the top of the Adult Contemporary and Country charts, respectively; “Edge of a Broken Heart,” a hit for the female metal band Vixen; “This I Promise You,” a Top 5 pop single for NSYNC that stayed at #1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart for 13 weeks; Josh Groban's debut single “To Where You Are,” which also reached #1; and “Dance With My Father,” which Richard wrote with the song's performer, Luther Vandross, and which earned the pair the prestigious Grammy Song of the Year award in 2004. Additionally, Richard has scored three major hits with Keith Urban: the Top 5 “Everybody,” and the #1 singles “Better Life” and “Long Hot Summer.”  Despite all his songwriting success, however, Marx is best known as a singer and performer who today jokes about his 80s hairstyle and of-the-era drum sounds. But the songs are undeniable, all of which Marx wrote and produced himself. His debut self-titled album yielded four Top 5 singles: “Don't Mean Nothing,” “Should've Known Better,” “Endless Summer Nights,” and “Hold on to the Nights.” His follow-up, 1989's Repeat Offender, was even more successful, going quadruple-platinum and earning two number one Billboard pop singles, “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting,” in addition to the Top 5 “Angelina.” More hits followed, including “Keep Coming Back,” “Hazard,” “Take This Heart,” “Now and Forever,” and “Until I Find You Again.” In addition, Richard's songs have been integral to a number of successful film soundtracks. He earned a Grammy nomination for his contributions to St. Elmo's Fire; scored a Top 10 pop hit with “Surrender to Me,” which Ann Wilson of Heart and Robin Zander of Cheap Trick recorded for the movie Tequila Sunrise, and wrote “At the Beginning,” a hit duet for the film Anastasia that Richard performed with Donna Lewis. Over the course of his career, Richard's songs have been recorded by Barbra Streisand, The Tubes, Sarah Brightman, Monica, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Paulina Rubio, Emerson Drive, Chicago, Billy Ray Cyrus, Vince Gill, Kenny Loggins, LeAnn Rimes, Celine Dion, Julio Iglesias, Berry Manilow, Daughtry, Vertical Horizon, Lifehouse, Dave Koz, Jennifer Nettles, Ringo Starr, and many others. His memoir, Stories to Tell, is available from Simon & Shuster.   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Jarek Berga - November 9th 2025 You're already training for something — the question is, what goal are you straining toward? This week, Jarek pauses our King and His Kingdom series to share from 1 Timothy 4:6–11, a message birthed in prayer about what it truly means to “train yourself for godliness.” Using Paul's athletic metaphor, Jarek explores how spiritual formation, like physical training, requires diet and exercise — being nourished by the Word and strengthened through discipline. He contrasts legalism (trying to earn God's love) with training (responding to His love), inviting us to examine what we're ultimately living for. Whether you're in a season of growth or recovery, this message calls us to a life of perseverance, love, and purpose — straining toward the crown that lasts forever. Jesus said, Blessed are those who mourn and those who weep.  This wisdom invites us to linger where the world tells us to move on, to honor the ache instead of trying to outrun it. Honest grief opens the heart, softens the soul, and opens us to God's healing touch.  Text Matthew 5.
