Not many are aware that one of the most successful “new age” authors, Carlos Castaneda, lead a cult. The women that made up the inner circle of his cult were called “the witches” and five of them disappeared soon after Castaneda's death in 1998. In an all too familiar trope, Castaneda's mythology was built on lies, narcissism, hypocrisy, and abuse, yet the witches remain missing. Did they commit mass suicide, or are they in control of the cult's workshops (Tensegrity) and publishing empire. Fascia—it's the connective web that holds us together, yet its role in acupuncture is often overlooked. What if understanding this intricate network could refine the way we think about acupuncture, movement, and healing? In this conversation with James Spears, we explore the interaction of Tung acupuncture and the fascia. James shares his path from traditional acupuncture education to integrating fascial principles, bridging Eastern and Western perspectives in a way that brings a unique integrative view to clinical practice.Listen into this discussion as we explore how fascia and acupuncture interact, why some Tung points work better than others in certain cases, the neurological effects of hand and foot points, and the overlooked role of structural alignment in musculoskeletal issues. This conversation is a reminder that understanding the body's physical architecture—its connective tissues, mechanical energy, and nervous system—can deepen our ability to help patients heal.

At Network Conference 2024, Network Operations Director, Amy Parsell, and Assistant Church Multiplication Director, Tom Baxter, shared about tensegrity in relation to Ohio for Jesus and the Every Disciplines.
We find ourselves giving this demonstration quite a bit so we thought we'd share. We were taught in high school to look up in the bottom of the squat....the more we learned the more we found that isn't the best option. In this Performance Insight we talk about the importance of head position and keeping your spine in neutral. And we show you a cool trick to try on your friends. #complicatedsimple #resultsthatgiveback --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/clinicallypressedco/support

Abstract: The dynamic mechanism of a cellular cytoskeleton is essential for the role of the cell, and its accurate characterization has been a long standing problem for cell scientists. A cytoskeleton vibrations are highly influenced by interactions of filamentous proteins mediated by axial vibration of the stiff microtubules (compressive member) and lateral vibration of F_actin (tensile member). Among various structures in a cell, the cytoplasmic contractile bundles, lamellipodia, and filipodia cells can be modeled by a symmetrical cylinder shaped self equilibrium tensegrity structure with different radii at the top and bottom of the cylinder. The truncated cone-like cylinder model is made to be small in height compared to both radii. This study investigates the tensegrity self vibrational behavior of the cellular cytoskeleton to calculate its natural frequencies, composed of the individual vibration of microtubules and F_actins from measured data. The spectral element method is adopted based on the Wittrick_Williams procedure to solve the vibrational behaviors of the cellular cytoskeleton. Various n_polygon cylindrical truncated cone shaped tensegrity structures to mimic the cellular cytoskeletons are presented to demonstrate the robustness of the present study. Should artists go to the fairs? Or should we just leave it to the galleries and collectors? Is it too soul-crushing, or are there benefits? The hilarious Jennifer Coates is back to cohost with me this week (yay!) and I took the opportunity to grill her about her recent experience as an artist visiting "Untitled", a major art fair in Miami. Her gallery High Noon was presenting her work there as a solo booth and she went full immersion for 4 days. I went into the episode with a decided "nope" as my answer, but Jennifer kind of brought me around by bringing up some excellent points and ways to reframe one's goals. Our language tells the tale of our evolution and the movement of the mind. It captures the experiences, attitudes, and wisdom of our ancestors and allows us to reflect upon our own. As herbalists and acupuncturists, the language of our medicine allows us to explore the body's terrain. And by working with the body, we avail ourselves of the opportunity to communicate with the Spirit, the Five Phases, along with the channels and collaterals. And like classical Chinese language, our medicine typically leaves things open ended. It requires a fluid mind and a capacity to look both at ‘process' and ‘thing.'In this conversation with Stefan Grace, we touch on a number of topics—including unpacking portions of the Nei Jing, considering the meaning of the Chinese character Tong (通), the importance of Yi (intention), and the relevance of tensegrity in our work. We also talk about the influence of the Chinese language in our practice and the need to verify the teaching passed on to us.Listen into this discussion on the lessons of the Nei Jing, cultivating Yi, and the influence of Tong in our clinical work..

Buckminster Fuller was a designer, inventor, and thinker, and a true American original. Alec Nevala-Lee is the author of a new detailed and honest biography of Fuller, "Inventor of the Future: The Visionary Life of Buckminster Fuller." Dave talks to Alec about Bucky's life, the unusual cast of characters he attracted, and starts to get into some questions that help inform why Bucky's outsized personality might have attracted people who later went on to become attracted to various kinds of disinformation campaigns — a topic we'll explore in some later episodes. In "Crossing the Bridge," Theresa & Sherry take listeners into a blueprint draft of their wholistic neighborhood, using the bridge as a loose metaphor. They discuss concepts like: Tensegrity (an architectural term), broken down to tension & integrity, the balance of compression & tension. Within this model is the distribution of weight and why we need certain stressors to grow. Bridging (one way the metaphor is animated), taking the practices, teachings & "aha" moments off-the mat, cushion or table and into the world of everyday living. The bridge lends itself well to the individual and the collective, both in its design and multiple purposes. In-Construction (everything is in a constant state of change), always re-building without judgment, even when abiding, for however long, in what was already created. The cycle of creation, preservation & dissolution are universal truths that show up in many ways. The Bridge is movement, it is connection and possibility. The Bridge is a way in, as well as a way out. *** This episode is the first time since the end of Season 2 that the two hosts recorded from the same place. They gathered in Sherry's backyard gazebo to a natural soundtrack of a variety of chirping birds. These conversations have opened doors for the development of future programs (live & virtual). So much of our history is rooted in structural deceit. Let's start with all the proxy wars. It was M.A.D. when the big three met in Ukraine. Evil is seeing the light of day. Tycoons and bankers are heavily represented. War happenstance is what we get. Many election methods exist. Cambridge Analytica and the radicalization of campaign war strategy. Did someone put media in it's place? Gerrymandering and the debate swirling the process. A method of explaining voting outcomes. Involuntary servitude is back in style. Genetics and crime research comes of age. Navarro harassed as the mourning begins. Blindsided from the left. Avenues we have for fighting back. NASA has real skin in the game. Did you know that your body needs movement as much as you need food? In this episode of the Align Podcast, biomechanist and movement guru Katy Bowman explains what human movement truly means, why it affects your quality of life, and how to get yourself to move more often and effectively in a sedentary world that offers limitless reasons to sit on hours. What's really interesting to know is that it's not enough that you exercise or move your body once in a while; Katy says you should be moving in ways that optimize ALL parts of your body. Yes, there's actually a "dosage" of movement required for different body parts. It seems complex, but it's totally achievable if you introduce even small changes in your routine. Whether you're working in front of the computer or glued to the TV screen, there are easy ways you can secure that daily dose of healthy movement. Learn more as Katy and I delve deep into that in this educational talk. Aside from writing the best-selling "Move Your DNA" along with 7 other books, multi-awarded leader Katy Bowman teaches movement globally through her movement education company, Nutritious Movement. Her work has been featured in diverse media including The Today Show, CBC Radio One, The Seattle Times, and Good Housekeeping. She's one of the most influential thinkers whose work continues to amaze and inspire me. This week on the CWC podcast, my guest is Dr. Chris Barnes, a sports chiropractor who emphasizes the importance of healing not only physical ailments, but also the body's energy. As a college football player at the University of Tulsa, Dr. Barnes suffered from numerous soft-tissue injuries, one of which ultimately ended his career. Frustrated, Dr. Barnes sought out some of the finest therapists and physicians in the world to learn the true causes of his pain and recurring injuries. He credits Dr. Michael Peterson for ultimately helping him get relief from his pain and inspiring him to become a chiropractor. Dr. Barnes shares how his realization that emotional trauma stored in the body can present as physical pain, and the importance of energy healing changed his life. At Tensegrity, his chiropractic practice in Tulsa, OK, he uses his knowledge, passion, and out-of-the-box approach to healing to help others find relief from chronic physical and emotional pain.Caroline's Linktree: https://linktr.ee/carolinemathiasDr. Barne's IG: https://www.instagram.com/tensegrity_chiropractic/Dr. Barne's FB: https://www.facebook.com/Tensegrity-Chiropractic-168890719833118Dr. Barne's Website: https://tensegritychiro.com

As we begin to look at some of the existing paradigms that just don't work, we're starting with how we understand the human body. Tensegrity is an architectural concept that got incorporated into Dr. Ida Rolf's Structural Integration, and it is an integral component to the bodywork aspect of the Dimension Approach. Episode 1 "The whole is real. Any division is conceptual." - Tom Myers. Trish Mack discusses how she helped heal my fragmented body after two brain surgeries. We are going to use big words like telocytes, tensegrity, and fascia. Trish refused to look at me as pieces and parts. She helped me learn how to listen to the language of my body so I could find wholeness. This is our story of connection. Full resources and bio in full show notes.

Does an issue at your foot affect your shoulder? You bet it does.If you view the body in an isolated way, then the previous statement won't make sense. It's a global anatomical view that helps shed light on how our body works as a cohesive structure. Everything in the body is connected, and movement occurs through a continual balance of compression and tension, demonstrated excellently through the concept of tensegrity. In this episode, Pete explains tensegrity, how the body is balanced with tension and compression and connected through our fascia. Don't miss the hands-on demonstration that you can do to experience the effects of tension and compression working through the body. Pete also discusses muscle slings, and how vital these cooperative muscle actions are to optimal movement. Movement dysfunction at one aspect of the body will cause overcompensations at the rest of the body limiting potential and development, so training ourselves to observe and correct movement can optimize our efforts and limit setbacks. It's all about efficiency!Check out the show notes page here: https://moretomovement.com/episode3/
After he was publicly humiliated when his memoirs were exposed as a hoax, Castaneda retreated into seclusion. But he brought with him a few dozen committed followers, who were sexual slaves and unquestioning adherents. Although he predicted that he was immortal, Castaneda's fatal cancer diagnosis rocked his followers to the bone: resulting in even more untimely deaths.
In 1960, anthropology student Carlos Castaneda followed a Native American Yaqui guide into the desert. There, he received a divine revelation about the subjective nature of reality - a revelation Castaneda could only share by exerting extreme levels of control over every student he encountered.

Kostas Bekris introduces tensegrity robots, and research into smart control algorithms for them.
In this episode, Jack Rasiel speaks with Kostas Bekris, who introduces us to tensegrity robotics: a striking robotic design which straddles the boundary between hard and soft robotics. A structure uses tensegrity if it is made of a number of isolated rigid elements which are held in compression by a network of elements that are in tension. Bekris, an Associate Professor of Computer Science, draws from a diverse set of problems to find innovative new ways to control tensegrity robots.
