It's December 24th, and you know what that means: it's Mista Steel's birthday, and it's up to Rita to make it the best birthday ever in a star-studded special that includes both of Juno's friends and some people who are lukewarm about him. Can Rita put together the ultimate birthday party in thirty minutes? Maybe! Is Juno's birthday really on the 24th? This episode is not canon and the Martian calendar is famously inconsistent, so I don't know, what do you think! Welcome to the Penumbra, dear Traveler. We hope you enjoy your journey. Have you heard of the A4 challenge? What are female bodies supposed to look like in China, and what happens when you don’t fit that cultural ideal? This week, we’re talking about body image in China, and how Chinese beauty standards affect locals and foreigners alike. We focus on female bodies and hear multiple women’s experiences navigating what their bodies look like and how their bodies are perceived and talked about. We explore how the Chinese approach of being direct about body talk impacts people in different ways. This case was supposed to be simple. Go into the Old Subway system, figure out what Mayor Pereyra is trying to get, stop them from getting it, then go home to a parade and a new world order. But now three days have passed, and the election looms, and still Juno, Alessandra, the Piranha, and Pilot Pereyra are down here, waiting for something in the distance. It seemed like it was going to be simple. But in this line of work, when you’re dealing with mysteries of the present, past, and future… nothing is ever as it seems. Mówi też o zmieniającym się, m.in. dzięki serialowi „Dziewczyny”, obrazie kobiety w kulturze. Dodatkowe dźwięki publiczności: Corsica S i mrmayo. Colin knew he needed a new perspective on the world, so he bought an around-the-world ticket. On one of his adventures, he ran out of water while hiking a mountain—and that’s when he started to understand what's actually important. When he returned home, he didn’t know what to do with all his “stuff.” Subscribe today to catch all of our awe-inspiring EF Outbound stories. Although Lou Perez ultimately chose atheism after a lifetime as a devout Catholic, he remained genuinely interested in people’s beliefs and why they held them. So when he saw that a convention of Geocentrists–those who still believe that the planets and the sun revolve around the Earth, that man and dinosaur walked by side by side, and who favor a literal interpretation of the Bible–would be holding their first ever convention at a Hilton in South Bend, Indiana, he convinced his then-girlfriend that they should fly from California to the Heartland for a weekend of Geocentrist festivities. SHOW 15: Ronan Carr joins the guys today. Carr is a director, writer, actor, and quizmaster. Astronomers are perplexed by a mysterious star in the constellation Cygnus. Comet swarm? Dyson sphere? We just don't know. This is the story behind Tabby's Star. This episode was produced independently by me, Asher Isbrucker. Tabby's Star is also commonly referred to as the WTF Star (WTF comes from "Where's the Flux?", the name of Tabby's paper and a common expression of disbelief), and also its Kepler catalog number KIC 8462852. I’d like to thank all of the people who gave their time and lent their voices for this episode: Tabetha Boyajian (@tsboyajian), Jason Wright (@Astro_Wright), Andrew Siemion, Brad Schaefer, Ross Andersen (@andersen), and Daryll LaCourse. Big thanks to all of you. Thanks as well to Professor Jaymie Matthews. Music by Lee Rosevere, Corsica S, Chris Zabriskie, Sergey Cheremisinov, Little Glass Men, Lee Maddeford, and Ketsa. In the hunt for a crime boss's murderer, Detective Juno Steel and Agent Rex Glass have ended up somewhere very peculiar: a game show. Well, it should be peculiar. But in the house of the Kanagawas, Hyperion City's premier crime-family-slash-entertainment-network, nothing is peculiar so long as it's caught on camera. In the eyes of a camera you can sell anything: a mad genius's horrific game show; an ancient death mask that kills whoever disturbs it; and even, strangest of all, a Detective and Special Agent who really think they have a shot at surviving this mess. As a freelance writer you primarily create content, for both your clients and yourself. If you are in a position where you fling your words out to the world and never think of them again, you are missing a trick and probably wasting at least some of your time (and your clients' money!). If, instead, you measure how effective your content is, you can quickly learn what works and what doesn't, what readers can relate to and what they ignore, and when you pay attention to what you discover and apply it to your future work, you will find that the content you produce makes an impact. It's an unfortunate truth that freelancers can be subject to oppressive behaviours from the clients they work with. Women, as well as members of minority groups, can be particularly at risk of being treated with a lack of respect or even downright abuse, especially if they work in traditionally male-dominated areas. In this podcast episode, Lorrie and Philippa discuss how freelancers can recognise when they are being treated inappropriately, and what they can do when it happens.Show Notes How to Handle Sexual Harassment from a Client A Woman In Your Own Right: Assertiveness and You (Anne Dickson) - USA / UK Online in 60 Seconds ShareGrab There are several ways to make sure that you don't miss out on A Little Bird Told Me.Subscribe via RSSSubscribe via iTunesFind us on Stitcher Smart RadioAnd finally, do 'like' us on Facebook to be the first to hear our news and to talk with us about what you hear on the podcast! To find Lorrie and Philippa on the web, follow these links:WebsitesPhilippa Willitts's freelance writing websiteLorrie Hartshorn's freelance writing websitePhilippa Willitts's Social Media Writer websiteTwitterPhilippa: @PhilippaWritesLorrie: @ThatWordyBirdFacebook:Lorrie on FacebookPhilippa's main freelance writing Facebook pagePhilippa's Social Media Writer Facebook pageLinkedIn:Lorrie HartshornPhilippa WillittsGoogle+Philippa WillittsPinterestPhilippa WillittsBirdsong Courtesy of http://www.freesound.org and freesfx.co.uk, thanks to: Justkiddink, Dobroide, Acclivity, Percy-duke, Ingsey101, 3bagbrew, Inchadney, Sean Townsend, Soundbytez, Urupin, reinsamba, 28-yuen-po, Tomlija, cakeje, gr8sfx, Bansemer, hutsvoid and Corsica_S, Jaturo. For artwork snippets, thanks goes to James Nash and Amir Rowaichi, for also Creative Commons Licensing their bird illustrations.
