In this episode, we explore Doctrine and Covenants sections 115 through 120—some of the most defining revelations in the history of the early Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These revelations, given in 1838, officially establish the divinely revealed name of the Church, emphasizing that it must bear the name of Jesus Christ to clearly identify whose Church it is. The Lord also directs the Saints to build up the sacred gathering place of Adam-ondi-Ahman in Missouri—a site tied to ancient prophecy and the future return of the Savior. Through these commands, the Saints are reminded that their work is not only about organizing a church but about preparing a people and a place for the coming of Christ. Sections 119 and 120 introduce the law of tithing, a principle that would bless both individual Saints and the Church collectively. This revelation set a divine pattern of sacrifice and stewardship, where the faithful contribute one-tenth of their increase to sustain the Lord's work on earth. These sections show how the Lord guides His people in both spiritual and temporal matters—establishing identity through His name, unity through sacred gathering places, and consecration through the law of tithing. Together, these revelations reflect the growing maturity of the restored Church and the Lord's ongoing pattern of preparing His Saints for Zion.

In a fallen world, things are not always what they seem to be. Such is the case in 2 Samuel 6, when the Lord kills Uzzah for simply touching the Ark of the Covenant in the wrong fashion. We are drawn to question God - "is this really the God I choose to serve?" In today's episode, we return to Paul's sermon series from the archives, David: A Matter of the Heart. This week, Paul explains that this story is actually a case study about the holiness of God, and that His holiness is our only hope.To hear more sermons from Paul, visit PaulTripp.com/Sermons.

Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com      "We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another,” Luciano de Crescenzo,    I would add - we will only fly as high to God as possible by which we can fly together each with our own wing and arm in arm with the other person.      You don't get married for a Good Time, you get married for a long time.    You don't get married to have kids, you get married to learn how not to be a kid, act like a kid, pout like a kid, complain like a kid,  You don't raise kids, they raise you.        For example, in a marriage, we seem to assume that just because two people get married they must love each other. In reality, people do not get married because of love but in order to learn how to love. To have love in a marriage requires that the couple have intimacy and to have intimacy the two people must psychologically and spiritually grow up and quit being children. Most couples getting married today are doing so while still in states of emotional dependency, which means the marriage is based on neurotic need and not love. To have love and intimacy in a marriage requires that both people first must become adults.     * The same principles that sustain our relationship with Jesus also sustain a thriving marriage.   ---   ## 1. **Covenant, Not Convenience**   * *Christ:* Luke 22:20 — sealed in His blood. * *Marriage:* Malachi 2:14 — a covenant before God.   **Teaching Point:** Both require lifelong, unwavering faithfulness.   **Discussion:** What are practical ways we can treat marriage as a covenant instead of a contract?   ---   ## 2. **Sacrificial Love**   * *Christ:* Ephesians 5:25 — gave Himself up. * *Marriage:* Philippians 2:3–4 — putting spouse's needs first.   **Teaching Point:** Real love is costly and others-focused.   **Exercise:** Each spouse lists one practical sacrifice they can make this week for the other.   ---   ## 3. **Daily Connection**   * *Christ:* John 15:4 — abiding daily. * *Marriage:* Requires intentional daily investment.   **Teaching Point:** Distance grows when we neglect connection.   **Reflection:** What “daily rhythms” can keep our relationship strong?

Faith isn't belief or hope—it's assurance. In this message, Dr. Gabe unpacks the true meaning of faith, challenging common misconceptions and encouraging listeners to move beyond hope into the assurance of God's reality. He explores how faith is not just belief or hope, but the unwavering confidence in God—regardless of circumstance or outcome. To live by faith is to possess an unwavering assurance in God's love, sovereignty, and presence, regardless of circumstances. It is to embrace sacrifice and trust, even when there's no earthly guarantee. As Pastor Gabriel concludes, the invitation is clear: “At some point in your walk with the Lord… you gotta choose the cross.”Support the showText encounteratl to 94000 to stay up-to-date on all things Encounter.Worship with EncounterSundays at 9 AM ET | Wednesdays at 7:30 PM ETSupport EncounterText egive to 77977 Connect with EncounterFacebook | Instagram | TikTok | YouTube | WebsiteConnect with Dr. GabeInstagram | YouTube | Website

So it is with the middle section of Hebrews (chapters 5-10), which holds some of the most complex concepts in the Bible. Joseph Smith and his counselors were deep in debt, so they went searching for buried treasure in Salem, Massachusetts, leading to one of the most remarkable sections of the Doctrine and Covenants! Did God really approve of their "follies," and what did they find that was "more treasures than one"? SUMMARY: Join us as we explore D&C 111–114, covering a pivotal and often misunderstood moment in early Church history and the profound doctrinal answers God gave in response to conflict and confusion. D&C 111 | The Salem Trip: We analyze the search for wealth to settle Church debt, the warning against "get-rich-quick" schemes , and the Lord's promise to Joseph Smith: "I have much treasure in this city for you" , shifting the focus from temporal silver to the spiritual treasure of souls and ancestry. D&C 112 | The Quorum of the Twelve: The Lord speaks directly to Thomas B. Marsh, President of the Twelve, to address "some few things in thine heart". The revelation is a powerful call to humility, urging him to "Be not partial" and let his "love abound unto all men". This section also outlines the authority given to the Twelve to "unlock the door of the kingdom" in the Dispensation of the Fulness of Times. D&C 113 | Q&A on Isaiah: Joseph Smith seeks clarity on Isaiah 11. The Lord reveals that the "Stem of Jesse" is Christ , and the "Rod" that comes from it is a servant in the hands of Christ—identified as Joseph Smith. We also discuss what it means for Zion to "put on thy strength" (priesthood authority) and loose the "bands of her neck". D&C 114 | Taking the Opportunity: In a stark warning against apostasy , the Lord calls David W. Patten to "settle up all his business" for a mission. The revelation teaches a critical principle: if leaders deny the Lord, others "shall be planted in their stead and receive their bishopric". CALL-TO-ACTION: Which of these four sections spoke most powerfully to you? Was it the call to patience with debt, the need for humility in leadership, the promised keys for the gathering, or the warning to take the "lifetime of an opportunity"? Throughout the Bible, we see that God desires for people to experience His presence, but how can sinful humans enter into the presence of a holy God? A sobering story that illustrates this very problem is found in 2 Samuel: As the procession carrying the Ark of the Covenant makes its way to Jerusalem, God's anger is kindled towards a man named Uzzah. Why does God's punishment seem so harsh, and what does it say about His nature? We invite you to listen in as we delve into this story and discover why only Jesus can bridge the gap between us and the Father.

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven" (Matt. 5:43-44).Third, PRAY FOR ALL MEN, PARTICULARLY LEADERS AND THOSE IN AUTHORITY. “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, or kings and all who are in high positions…” (1 Tim. 2:1-2).Fourth, GOING INTO BATTLE WITH THE ARK. When the ancient Israelites came to Jericho, God didn't tell them to besiege the city. Instead, He told them to march around it with the Ark of the Covenant seven times, and on the seventh the walls would fall. We will now "march" in prayer for seven days with the New Ark of the Covenant, Our Lady, through the Rosary. We pray in hope that on the seventh day, a day especially devoted to Our Lady (Saturday), extraordinary graces of conversion will be given to those we are praying for.Fifth, EVANGELISM AND APOLOGETICS = LOVE + ARGUMENTS + PRAYER + PENANCE. Ultimately it is God who reveals Himself to a soul, and empowers them to say "yes" to Him by His grace. He chooses to use us, but He does not have to. We must remember that as we evangelize and defend the Faith, our arguments will be fruitless unless informed by love (charity), and reinforced by prayer and penance.Sixth, RETURNING GOOD FOR EVIL. “Do not return evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but on the contrary bless, for to this you have been called, that you may obtain a blessing" (1 Pet. 3:9).Sign up to take part in the Great Rosary Campaign today: www.GreatRosaryCampaign.com

We discuss the rise of patriarchal blessings, the creation of new church offices –like the Twelve and the Seventy. We also discuss the challenges posed by critics like E. D. Howe's Mormonism Unveiled-The 1835 Doctrine and Covenants (and the Lectures on Faith)-The creation of the Quorum of the Twelve and the Seventy-The beginning of the Law of Adoption-How Joseph Smith used blessings and promises to help people follow himDid this first anti-Mormon publication get under Joseph Smith's skin? “The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” Theologian R. Kendall Soulen joins Drew Collins to discuss supersessionism, the name of God (tetragrammaton), the irrevocable covenant between God and the Jews, and the enduring significance of Judaism for Christian theology.Together they explore religious and ethnic heritage, cultural identity, community, covenant, interfaith dialogue, and the ongoing implications for Christian theology and practice. They also reflect on how the Holocaust forced Christians to confront theological assumptions, how Vatican II and subsequent church statements reshaped doctrine, and why the gifts and calling of God remain irrevocable. Soulen challenges traditional readings of Scripture that erase Israel, insisting instead on a post-supersessionist framework where Jews and Gentiles bear distinct but inseparable witness to God's faithfulness.Image Credit: Marc Chagall, ”Moses with the Burning Bush”, 1966Episode Highlights“The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”“Supersessionism is the Christian belief that the Jews are no longer God's people.”“The Lord is God—those words preserve God's identity and resist erasure.”“Israel sinned. Join Rolf Jacobson, Kathryn Schifferdecker, and Craig Koester on "I Love to Tell the Story" as they explore the narrative lectionary reading for October 26th, focusing on the building of Solomon's Temple from 1 Kings 8:1-13. In this episode, the hosts discuss the transition from King David's reign to his son Solomon, who fulfills David's vision of building a permanent temple for worship. They examine how the temple serves as a central place where God's presence is "intensified" while not confining God to a single location - similar to how we understand the sacraments today. Key topics covered: * The significance of the Ark of the Covenant and the stone tablets at the temple's heart * How the covenant relationship ("I will be your God, you will be my people") remains central to worship * The connection between this reading and Reformation Sunday * Personal reflections on visiting St. Peter's Basilica and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher * The importance of communal worship versus privatized religion * How sacred spaces connect us to the communion of saints across centuries The hosts bring their expertise from Luther Seminary to illuminate how this ancient story speaks to contemporary questions about worship, community, and God's presence among us.
