One of our three thousand fans showed up to chat with us about AMAZING debut albums by various artists... El Carpe did at least 12 minutes of research and found a large number of amazing bands for us to discuss - and most are not in his tiny bubble of the '80's New Romantics. Go figure. Old farts can change. (maybe) We had a blast chatting about Weezer, The Stone Roses, Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, the Cars, Fine Young Cannibals and the Smiths. There was a bunch of very specific reverence to Chris Cornell. (RIP) There was a brief discussion on Sigor Ros and Dead Ghosts - both great. We played music, chatted, basically had a great time together - give this one a listen if you wanna hear two good buddies chatting about, and playing music they love. Lower your Standards, join us for what we thought was a fun time - and be one of the three people who are not related to us who enjoy our show. As always... Pour Me Another Brother. and here's the extra... was letting youtube play after one of the many windows I had open... and this came up ... I kinda like it - and may want us to add to a show for 'something new'... ok, at least new to me. Dream Cars - Irony is a fine vacation Dream Cars - Irony is a fine vacation

Sometimes love requires the reminder of sacrifice and power. For the pieces that are red for day three I believe demonstrates both of those things while we are in the beginning of Black History Month, we as black and Writer are possess with a unique reality. For as good as we are with our words, and our ability to adapt, the masters town known as the English language, we are aware that not so long ago it was illegal for us to even do that. let these words remind you that love is why we do most of our art, and love reminds us that there is so much yet to be done and farther to go. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/onthewritersblock/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/onthewritersblock/support

DEAD GHOSTS "Merle" Automatic Changer Burger Records (2020) https://burgerrecords.com/product/dead-ghosts-automatic-changer/ Formed nearly a decade ago in Vancouver, Canada, the garage-rock group grew out of founders Byran Nicol, Drew Wilky, and Mike Wilky's desire to hang out, listen to records and play music. After the trio uploaded a few demos to Myspace--this was 2008, after all--a small punk record label from Iowa reached out and asked if they wanted to do a single. The single quickly led to the group's first full-length album, the self-titled Dead Ghosts."We got lucky," Nicol, the group's frontman, recalls. "When we started playing, we were just messing with recording, and generally goofing around. We had no vision at all. We just wanted to play house parties or something--that was the limit of our aspirations."Defying their own expectations, by 2015 the group had released two more albums--Can't Get No and Love and Death and All the Rest--both of which released on LA record label, Burger Records and embarked on several lengthy tours across Europe and US. Playing a distinctive brand of swaggering, blues-infused lo-fi rock, the five-piece quickly won over transatlantic fans and scored fresh fodder for their lyrics with their punk-rock antics.
The Escapes join the show with Andrew Willis to talk about their new band and music. In the news, Pink Shirt Day and bullying in schools. Music by Dead Ghosts, Ocean Alley, W?eaves, COIN, E^ST, and Bulow.
John figures that his pinkies don’t do much. Cinnamon gets in trouble with her third band. Also, great, great music. DEAD GHOSTS "Drugstore Supplies" Automatic Changer Burger Records (2020) LISTEN ON SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/album/1Mxa2u6FrDH1UEcpndYDHu?si=WaCaDfCNS4i5YfvW4nGMBw Dead Ghosts are a four-piece garage rock and/or roll band from Vancouver, British Columbia. Rauchy lo-fi recording style, country-esque vibes, "sweet guitar pluck-and-jangle," driving rhythms, and the occasional Back From The Grave feel is the basic make up of their songs. To get another idea of their sound, they've gotten comparisons to namely the bands the Black Lips and King Khan & BBQ Show.
A couple encounters frigid temperatures and entities wreaking havoc with the electronics of a haunted house late one night. When a grandfather passes, he makes one final stop to take his grandson home from school and deliver an enduring message of love. Except for one or two moments of sheer, unrelenting terror, or players have managed to proceed in a mostly calm manner. But what happens when some people are determined to punch dogs in the face,...
The big 1-0! We're playing a bunch of great songs this episode, bunkering down for a string of interview episodes on the horizon. We also talk Toronto's Pleasance Records, record stores, and something else. Music by: Ketamines, The Yolks, White Wires, Bad Sports, Doug Mason, Gay, Taiwan, Hobo Cubes, Shadowy Men On a Shadowy Planet, Thee Make-out Party, Wastoids, Dead Ghosts and more!
We interview Adam and Tony of Vancouver’s NEEDLES//PINS! Things got a bit sloppy at Ottawa Explosion during this interview, and the guys discuss high school girlfriends, hobo tattoos, and hating Henry Rollins! Emmanuel and Travis play some excellent Vancouver punk, and a set of weirdo tunes to top things off! Plus songs from Needles//Pins, Strange Attractor, Pointed Sticks, Young Canadians, The Modernettes, Crabe, Whatever Brains, Dead Ghosts, Cherry Bones, Mikal Cronin, The Thermals, and Ovlov!

Yeah dude, EPISODE #35 of Random Old Records is finished, fresh off my hard drive to yours, and this one is chock-full of jams! Not only that, but this time around there's no dance pop. Yep, 100% dance pop free! It kicks off with a track from Vancouver's Dead Ghosts, who put out one of the best rock n' roll debut albums I've heard in a long time earlier this year. It sounds like a bunch of degenerate punk kids who grew up on beat-up vinyl copies of early Stones records. A few minutes later, there's a tune from the upcoming second Dum Dum Girls record on Sub Pop, and Dee Dee Dum Dum has morphed into a master of the pop song. "Bedroom Eyes" sounds straight outta 1985, a simpler time when songs that still resembled rock n' roll made it onto pop radio. It sounds like the love song from a classic big-budget 80s flick, and just try to make it through without getting that chorus stuck in your head. It's impossible!Elsewhere, I dig deep into my bank of classic tunes and pull out stuff by Big Star, The Raspberries, Captain Beefheart, Thee Headcoats, and Louis Jordan. Plus, you'll hear a set of original punk rock from The Ramones, Stiff Little Fingers, and The Rezillos, and a sprinkling of newer tracks by Jacuzzi Boys, Bare Wires, Fungi Girls, and Missing Monuments. Hot DAMN! Nestled deep in the playlist, you'll find a track from The Streys, a bunch of kids from the Cleveland suburbs who cranked out a few singles of hammer-dumb 60s garage punk before disappearing forever. It all wraps up with "Since You've Gone" by Spanky And Our Gang, one of the most dazzling displays of psychedelic vocal harmony I've ever heard. All in all, this is one of the best episodes of Random Old Records I've put together in awhile, so go to the normal locations and download it right away! There's lots of loud guitars, simplistic hooks, and plenty of "hell yeah!" moments to be had. It's a perfect soundtrack for jumping around your room for like an hour!Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to Random Old Records via Apple Podcasts, Google Play, or RSS.
