Although she's not directly in the pet industry, I'm excited to feature experts from beyond the pet world who can provide us with valuable and actionable advice! We discuss how to build a community without relying 100% on social media. If you're not a fan of social media platforms or if you're not seeing results (like new clients and revenue), there are other ways to foster community and grow your pet business. For starters, Deanna has been organizing virtual networking events with co-hosts to connect with new people and establish community. She also sends out emails to her list every Thursday. In her weekly emails, Deanna follows a formula that involves starting with a personal story then tying it into her business. When you listen to this episode, you'll learn Deanna's tips on generating your own stories and incorporating them into your business content strategy. One of her favorite ways to transition from storytelling to selling in email is with a fun GIF. They're funny and establish a friendly relationship with your email list. Success is right around the corner if you buy the right course, right? There's just one piece of information you're missing...and when you read the marketing copy for that course you're CERTAIN that this will be THE THING that makes is all happen.   How many courses have you bought? $2k here, $3k there...it sure adds up, doesn't it? I know I've spent multiple thousands of dollars on courses that I have not used, not finished, or did not deliver. Deanna Seymour was an art teacher looking to start a side hustle to bring some extra money into her family of four. Like so many of us, she googled her way into the online business world, discovering so many celebrity entrepreneurs...and before long she had the feeling of, "Yeah, I can do that--I can be a bazillionaire and run my business from the beach." How many of us have had a similar thought? Deanna opens up to take us on this journey of investing big sums and not getting the desired results; of being convinced by the marketing and then discovering the program really didn't deliver. As a result she created a course called, STOP BUYING COURSES to help people understand marketing and how it is designed to make you feel so you can make empowered decisions. Deanna is AMAZING. OMG, you're going to love her. One of these approaches may just be the break you need…  “Niching down” isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially for neuro-spicy folk. That's the bad news. Just imagine a high school art teacher, wife, and mom trying to start an online business.  She loves her students and teaching itself but all the rules of the profession are sucking the joy right out of her.  In spite of her boundless enthusiasm and endless creativity, plus years of side hustle experience, like the rest of us, this wantrepreneur turns to the alleged “experts” in the field, the high priestesses of online marketing.  The ones who make 'the rules". These celebrity coaches and online marketing gurus have made multi-million dollars selling their courses and coaching programs, and they have pages and pages of testimonials gushing over them, so it had to be “The Way”, and they had a right to make The Rules, only it wasn't and they don't.  Several courses later, this teacher, whom we will call Deanna (because that's actually her name) is not only not getting anywhere closer to the promised land of the laptop lifestyle, but she is starting to feel just as disillusioned with this whole online entrepreneur thing as she was as a teacher.  See the real problem? Is poor Deanna doing something wrong or did she simply get caught up in the “results, not typical” marketing hype that has made celebrity coaches fabulously wealthy while leaving most of their students blaming themselves for not being one of the success stories they bring on stage at their high ticket sales events?   Well, as you might have guessed, Deanna is today's guest on The Driven Woman Podcast and she is also the graphic designer and coach that I recently hired and will start working with in June, to help me write MY own rules when it comes to Instagram.   Here is what you'll learn in today's episode: How Deanna and I met:  In Angie Trueblood's Podwize membership Why she broke up with social media for 6 weeks and what it taught her Why Deanna no longer considers the $$$ she spent on courses to be a total waste What she thinks is the key to dealing with the fear of being vulnerable onlineWant more Deanna Seymour? Waitlist for “Eff That!” Instagram Community: https://deannaseymour.com/shop/Website: https://deannaseymour.com/“Eff That! One of the topics I am asked for my opinion on most often is the confusion between therapy and coaching.  I guess you could say I am uniquely qualified to address this topic because before I trained and certified as a coach, I was a licensed psychotherapist for over twenty years.  It has become a complicated, contradictory and at times controversial subject and one that a growing number of people are talking about. After being asked this question in a number of interviews on other podcasts, I decided it was time to discuss it on The Driven Woman.  The point here is not that therapists are better, safer, or more competent across the board.  I know many fine coaches who do excellent work and hold themselves to standards of integrity and ethics that equal those of any licensed therapist. I have also known a number of therapists who were mediocre at best.  In this episode, I hope to raise awareness, stimulate some thinking, and most of all, encourage people to trust their intuition and do their homework.   In this episode, I make the offer to personally respond to anyone who has a follow-up question on this subject after listening to the full episode.  The options are:  DM me at IG @coachdiannwingert or email me at diann@diannwingertcoaching.com.   Discussed in this episode: How do therapists and coaches differ in terms of their credentials: training, licensing, certification, and regulation The connection between the medical model and mental health stigma Unsung heroes: bartenders, personal trainers, massage therapists, and hair stylistsThe big issues:  boundaries, confidentiality, privacy, dual relationships Insight and healing or growth and goal achievementShould you work with both a therapist and a coach at the same time? Pricing and packaging of therapy vs coaching and how this influences our expectations and outcomes Also mentioned: ICF (International Coach Federation) https://coachingfederation.org/Two of the podcast interviews I have done on this subject:My Simplified Life Podcast: https://apple.co/3BMNKuaCreative Magic Club Podcast: https://apple.co/3wI9mVXHave you closed the gap between where you are and where you want to be in your business?  Do you know which beliefs and habits are standing in your way?   I created a quiz with 6 common problems that interfere with our success as solopreneurs.  Take my FREE quiz and get your personalized result, and more importantly, what you can do about it. What's Holding You Back?   https://bit.ly/obstaclesquizIf you are the kind of entrepreneur who learns as much from others as you do when you and your business are the sole focus, my brand new group membership program is starting soon and the first step is to get on the waitlist. Click here to be notified of all the details: Group Coaching Waitlist So, that's all for now, Driven Woman!  Please join us next week for another amazing guest interview with Deanna Seymour, a graphic designer, and former art teacher who joins me to talk about being our true selves and breaking a few rules in social media and online business.

Over the past year, we've seen the rise of private podcast feeds, which are podcasts whose access you pay for, typically either with money or an email address. They can be used in a variety of ways, as the 'carrot' for Patreon subscribers, as an opt-in, as an additional way to deliver content in a course or membership - so many ways. So, when Deanna Seymour shared that she was using private podcast feeds as a way to deliver a summit-like audio series, I knew I wanted to bring her on the show. "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is you-er than you." - Dr. Seuss My guest today is my friend and collaborator Deanna Seymour. She uses humor and empathy to help her clients feel more comfortable being themselves while marketing their business and connecting with their ideal clients. And when she's not harnessing the power of creativity and playfulness in her work, she's probably calling out the sleazy marketing techniques we've all seen in the online space. In this fun and wide-ranging conversation, we talk about Deanna's experience with private podcast feeds, being fun and authentic while still being successful in business, and her experiences of pitching herself for podcast appearances. Topics covered include: Do we need to fit in a neat and tidy box? Why Deanna chooses not to niche down How bro-marketing and sleazy sales techniques made her lean into what felt right in her own business Why Deanna offers her private podcasts for free as a lead magnet to grow her email list The benefits and risks of being super-authentic in your messaging The impact that podcast guesting has had on her business Full show notes and resources: https://www.thepodwizegroup.com/private-podcast-feeds-deanna-seymour

A mantra is a word, a grouping of words, or sound(s), they are spoken or chanted aloud or they can be recited internally in your thoughts. By focusing the mind on one word, or thought, and nothing else, the mind stills, allowing what may be hidden to arise to our consciousness.  Do they work? Well, many neuroscientists have proved that the repetitive sound and language of mantras can and do affect aspects of our life.  So now I'm sitting here saying, great another thing for me to try to do and fail miserably at, another thing that I should be doing for myself but somehow can't seem to get done. The truth is nothing, not even mantras are helpful if it forces you into some downward shame spiral of thinking that you suck because you can't adopt them.  Enter Deanna Seymour to talk about her failed journey with mantras and how she finally found one that stuck!  Drink of the week: The Happy Buddha! https://tipsybartender.com/recipe/happy-buddha/ (https://tipsybartender.com/recipe/happy-buddha/) If you liked what you heard today, please leave a review and subscribe to the podcast.
