"I was adorable once, young and full of hope. And now look at me! I'm this short, fat, insecure, middle-aged THING!" We watched "The BIrdcage" (1996) with our friends Garrett Clayton and Blake Knight and ju can't handle our Guatemalan-ness! How exactly did it take us over 200 episodes to get to this queer classic?! Well we're finally here and hey, we just gave you an excuse to rewatch this gem. You're welcome. Nathan Lane and Robin Williams are bringing the laughs with these performances and man we were quoting and lol'ing all the way through. Listen it's not lost on us that in 2024 there would be some major issues with the casting - Robin being straight and Hank Azaria being... not latin. But there is an authenticity to Robin's performance that the four of us as card-carrying gay men really appreciated.  The heavy-hitter supporting cast really knocks this movie out of the park. Gene Hackman and Diane Wiest were bringing the laughs as the ultra conservative in-laws and Christine Baranski is gold - per usual. Mix in drag queens, Miami Beach street scenes full of scantily clad muscle dudes and jokes on jokes on jokes and you've got yourself a hit. If there was any justice in this world Nathan Lane would have gotten an Oscar for this performance. "Oh God, I pierced the toast!" Alright, here we go. In our society, there is a constant debate surrounding the personal sins of creators, and how it effects the audience perception of the film. People doing heinous things isn't something to be celebrated, but it can be explored in a safe space. Often times, the work of these creators is confessional and can be mined for red flags. The other side of things, especially with Woody, is that many performers did their best work in his films. Mia Farrow, Diane Keaton, and Diane Wiest will be the focus for the majority of this episode. We will be talking about Woody, but more as an artist than his documented misdeeds. This is not to discredit any victim, but just to try to talk about things from a different perspective. I hope that this episode is successful in doing so.  Email any questions or complaints to AndrewWatchesFilm@gmail.com

Bovendien zit er zijn favoriete versie in van Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me, gezongen door de grote Roger Daltrey. Just in time for scary movie season, we are back with a look at two horror classics. In 1987, gay filmmaker Joel Schumacher redefined the vampire film with The Lost Boys, featuring a stellar soundtrack and a cast filled with hot young up-and-comers like Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Patric, placing them alongside theater and film veterans like Edward Hermann and Diane Wiest. The result was a phenomenon that built careers and changed Hollywood forever. In 1990, he followed it up with another Kiefer Sutherland vehicle, this time bringing along Julia Roberts, Oliver Platt and William Baldwin. This high-concept horror film was Flatliners, with the soon-to-be-superstars playing medical students who play God, and toy with death. To discuss these two seminal queer films, we looked to the filmmakers of Scream, Queen: My Nightmare on Elm Street, Roman Chimienti and Tyler Jensen. We were thrilled to welcome them to the podcast to discuss Joel Schumacher and his only two horror films.

Our Third Annual Harvest Horror Fest continues with a true vampire horror comedy classic The Lost Boys (1987) starring Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, and the two Coreys. Off topics include Taken, RAW vs JPEG, and Natalie Portman. This is it, arguably the original teen vampire film, The Lost Boys (1987). Basically it’s Matt and Mike’s version of the Twilight saga or Vampire Academy except this movie is great. It is a fun dark action packed horror comedy that is shot well and acted well. Diane Wiest just won her second Academy Award the year before! The story is creative with unique characters. It has everything, even an extremely ripped dude playing a sax. The Lost Boys (1987) is a cult classic that needs no explanation why. It’s just a really great fun film. Everyone should experience this flick in their lives. Mike awards the movie 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt, back to beating Mikes ratings, gives The Lost Boys (1987) 4.5 out of 5 Reels.               Next Wednesday, we are sorry to say, is our final installment of Third Annual Harvest Horror Fest with one of Mike’s picks Candyman (1992). This week it's time to cut loose, and kick off those Sunday shoes because on the Casual Movie Club it's time to talk about Footloose, that smash hit from 1984. If you play the Kevin Bacon game, this movie helps you connect him to people like John Lithgow and Diane Wiest, or Chris Penn if you're into more obscure actors. Interestingly enough, this movie is based on a true story; the fact that a small town actually banned dancing. This episode is certainly not one to miss, because we talk about how baffling a ban on dancing actually is, and how our opinions on the soundtrack are quite different.
