We have holy things among us, holy things to venerate and through which we receive grace and taste the goodness of God. But nothing compares to the very body of God which we receive in the Divine Sacrament. Not the sacred waters of the blessed font, not the sacred chrism, not the holy relics of the saints, not Icons which we venerate, nor the living icons- the saints themselves- Nothing He has given us that we can handle compares with His very body and blood, which is truly divine and worthy of our adoration.

About 55% of Black adults have high blood pressure, also known as hypertension or HBP. Black people also have disproportionately high rates of more severe HBP and it develops earlier in life. Historical and systemic factors play a major role in these statistics. Among them are adverse social determinants of health, the conditions in which a person is born and lives. The determinants include lack of access to care, lack of access to healthy foods and other societal issues. Lack of access to medication, and distrust of health care professionals based on historical discrimination, are among contributing factors to a lower adherence to blood pressure medications. Certain medications also may be less effective in controlling HBP in some Black people, and they may require two or more medications to achieve their BP goal. Factors Leading to HBP Higher rates of obesity and diabetes increase the risk for high blood pressure and heart disease. Statistics show Black people face disproportionately high rates of both conditions. High blood pressure, when not controlled, can lead to other conditions and even death. HBP is a major risk factor for stroke, heart failure and kidney disease. Overcoming the Challenges of Blood Pressure Management A healthy weight and diet, plus physical activity, can go a long way toward lowering blood pressure. But many people struggle with these issues because they aren't simple for everyone. For example, Black neighborhoods lack stores that stock healthier foods. And areas that have historically lacked investment often don't have safe places to walk, run or exercise. Access to social support, safe environments and affordable, high-quality medical care and medications are key to managing blood pressure. So make sure you tap in to this conversation as we read this article and have a powerful conversation concerning the matter. Thanks in advance! RBCF! He completed residency at the University of Texas at Houston. Dr. Akili practiced in a federally funded health facility in Houston prior to opening his own private practice in 2003. Being traditionally trained in allopathic, western medicine, he has concluded that a medical society with the best technologies, the most doctors, medications, and medical facilities is not producing adequate solutions to restore and heal the body. As such, Dr. Akili now studies How to Eat to Live by the Hon Elijah Muhammad and alternative therapies designed to provide a Wholistic approach to restoring the body through nutrition and alternative therapies. Evaluating the whole body is what is needed in Wholistic health. Recognizing this need and the lack of information available to the society, Dr. Akili began offering a series of “How To” seminars designed to educate and improve mental, emotional, and physical health. He actively educates society by speaking at schools, religious and community organizations. Dr. Akili continues to take time out of his schedule to address restoring your health in your kitchen and lifestyle, for he believes that prevention is worth much more than doctor bills!!! Welcome to the mini series - 4 Pillars of Vibrant Health! Based on my book Food Freedom: Stop Hiding + Uncover Who You're Meant to Be. These four pillars are the most critical when it comes to wellbeing. Health can be confusing, and my goal is to simplify wellbeing to something we can easily self-assess, identify, and continue to pursue vibrant health in our own lives based on what we need, not what someone else decides for us. We're also going to explore the spiritual principles behind each of these practical health components. After all we are three-part beings and to ignore any one will lead to imbalances. In the church community, rarely is health addressed, and conversely the most knowledgeable health experts fall short without addressing spiritual roots. You'll finish each episode with a greater understanding of practical ways you can pursue vitality in your own health status and also how to connect to Jesus in a deeper way. In this episode: What is food and what is its function? How does it affect the body?
