Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield step into the ring for a rematch on May 29th after Tyson claimed that terms had been agreed between the two veteran prizefighters. The rematch comes months after Tyson stepped into the ring with Roy Jones Jr. in November. Recently, it was claimed by Holyfield's camp that Tyson turned down $25 million for a rematch. Let's see how this one turns out?? Jamie Foxx is set to play Mike Tyson in a new biopic series titled, "Tyson." According to the Hollywood Reporter, the limited series, which was originally pitched as a film, will follow the life of Mike Tyson, and will be executive produced by the boxing legend himself, alongside AntoineFuqua and MartinScorsese. Jamie Foxx has played in his fair share of o biopics films, but Mike Tyson is also accomplished on the entertainment front. Back in 2009, he played himself in Hangover and brought his one-man show to Broadway. He has also dabbled in a few animated series, including Adult Swim’s Mike Tyson Mysteries. We are excited for this! On March 14, Nas won the first Grammy Award of his career at the 63rd annual ceremony when the Recording Academy named King’s Disease as Best Rap Album. Plus, his first studio LP is being labeled an “audio treasure” worthy of preservation by the United States Library of Congress. Illmatic will now live in the LOC alongside other Hip Hop classics like Run-D.M.C.’s Raising Hell, N.W.A’s Straight Outta Compton, De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising, Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and Jay-Z’s The Blueprint. Only eleven Hip Hop acts have been chosen for the honor. Congrats, Nas! Former President Trump is now launching his own social media platform to rival Twitter. When Twitter and Facebook bounced Donald Trump off of their social media platforms for spreading false information about the election, many suspected that the former president would lose his mind not being able to express himself to the public via the mediums. Despite inciting a national insurrection on January 6, for the most part, 45 didn’t. He sat in the cut quietly and plotted a way to push his propaganda to MAGA Maniacs all across the world. Now we know why. Wild ‘N Out was put on hiatus. That decision was the result of the show’s host/producer Nick Cannon dealing with significant backlash for making anti-Semitic comments on his Cannon’s Class podcast. He later publicly apologized. Following Cannon’s mea culpa, ViacomCBS announced last month that the entertainment conglomerate is bringing Wild ‘N Out back to VH1. New episodes of the program will be made in the future, but the pre-recorded second half of season 15 will start airing on April 6 at 8 pm ET/PT. The line-up of guest stars for the new installments of Wild ‘N Out includes Rapsody, Juvenile, Cuban Doll, Headkrack, Da Brat, MC Lyte, 24kGoldn, Big Tigger, Young Joc, Peter Gunz, Corey Gunz, Trinidad James, Queen Najia, FatBoy SSE, Donnell Rawlings, and more. Definitely excited about this one! For the "HOT TAKE" this week, Ramona Harris of "Truth Marketing and Consulting." Today I’m joined by Mike Meyer who serves as Head of Global Sales and Trading at Seaport Global. While the two of us touch upon business, however, the focus of our conversation today is on Mike’s passion project, a documentary called (In)Visible Portraits that is dedicated to celebrating American black women in the past and present while looking with hope towards the future. Mike shares with listeners his inspiration for the project, how it came to be made, and the impact he hopes it will have on its audience. Mike describes (In)Visible Portraits as a “love-letter to black women,” explaining that the idea for the project came to him after watching Isiah Thomas’s Hall of Fame induction speech, where he became overwhelmed with emotion as he addressed his mother and talked about the incredible influence she had on his life. Watching Thomas’s speech stuck with Mike, and he realized that women like Mary Thomas are some of the most important Americans who get up and face challenges every day but never receive the recognition they deserve. Because of this, Mike’s project began as a celebration of black mothers. While (In)Visible Portraits was first released on Juneteenth 2020, Mike explains that the project took over ten years to come into fruition. He talks about the difficulty of finding a director for the film until a mutual friend introduced him to filmmaker Oge Egbuonu, who took on the project. While the film wasn’t set to be released until later in 2020, the team decided it best to release it on Juneteenth after the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor brought revived awareness to the racial tensions and injustices still alive in the United States. As Mike shares, his hope for the film is that it will bring both emotion and an awareness to its audience that will then make its way through society. He hopes for the film to one day become a part of the education system and taught at all levels. Listen in to learn more about Mike’s influences, his next initiative for fighting against racial inequality, and the film’s development, and be sure to tune in on March 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT as (In)Visible Portraits premieres on the Oprah Winfrey Network. What You’ll Learn in This Podcast Episode: On today’s episode, you’ll learn about (In)Visible Portraits, a documentary dedicated to celebrating American black women in the past and present while looking with hope towards the future. In addition to learning about the documentary itself, you’ll also learn from executive producer Mike Meyer about what inspired the film and how it got made. When Army surgeon Jeffrey MacDonald was sent to prison for killing his family, a storm of swirling narratives challenged our very ability to find the truth all the while overshadowing a chilling possibility: MacDonald may be an innocent man. 50 years have passed since the tragic murders of Colette, Kimberley and Kristen MacDonald, and more than 40 years have passed since the subsequent conviction of husband and father Jeffrey MacDonald. While Jeffrey maintains his innocence to this day, this is one of the longest active criminal cases in the history of American jurisprudence and has drawn significant interest from national media. In fact, there have been at least 10 books and movies made about the case, including the miniseries Fatal Vision, based on the book of the same name from Joe McGinniss, and A Wilderness of Error from acclaimed author and documentarian Errol Morris, from which the FX docuseries is based. Marc Smerling is an American film producer, screenwriter and cinematographer nominated for an Academy Award® in 2003 for Capturing the Friedmans. He’s also garnered recognition for the 2010 documentary Catfish, the inspiration behind the successful MTV series of the same name, and for 2015’s HBO docuseries, The Jinx. A Wilderness of Error will air as a two-night event on FX with the first three episodes airing back-to-back-to-back beginning at 8p ET/PT on Friday, September 25. The series will conclude Friday, October 2 with its final two episodes airing back-to-back beginning at 9p ET/PT. Episodes will be available for streaming the day after broadcast via FX on Hulu. Marc Smerling directs and executive produces the series under his recently launched production company Truth Media, alongside Blumhouse Television and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Additional executive producers include Michael Jackson and Rachael Horovitz, who acquired the rights to the book; Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Marci Wiseman, Mary Lisio, Dawn Olmstead and Jessica Grimshaw.

As the Country Prepares for the Looming Presidential Election and Continues to Fight an Ongoing Pandemic, Take a Deep, Multifaceted Look Into the Soul of a Quintessentially American City. City So Real Ric Speaks with Oscar-Nominated Documentarian Steve James About His Critically Acclaimed Docu-Series on National Geographic. The One-Night, Five-Hour, Commercial-Free event, airs October 29th at 7pm ET/PT on National Geographic, Available Next Day on Hulu. City So Real was an official Indie Episodic selection at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival where it had its world premiere. In the five-part documentary series City So Real, documentarian Steve James (“America to Me,” “Hoop Dreams”) delivers a fascinating and complex portrait of Chicago, America’s third-largest metropolis and his longtime hometown. The series begins in the haze of mid-summer 2018 as Mayor Rahm Emanuel, embroiled in accusations of a cover-up related to the police shooting of an African American teenager, Laquan McDonald, shocks the city by announcing he won’t seek reelection. An unprecedented 21 candidates emerge in a diverse and crowded field as they engage in a no-holds-barred battle for a chance to shape the city’s uncertain future. The final episode of the series picks up a year after the mayoral election in 2020, as the city simultaneously grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic and the widespread social upheaval following the death of George Floyd. An already fractured city is further divided by the economic, political and social fallout, which plays out on the city streets as police clash with protesters, bringing rise to a generational moment that promises to change the city forever. In candid interviews with residents throughout the city, the series captures Chicago’s indomitable spirit as well as its seemingly insurmountable challenges. City So Real is a gritty and loving depiction of a quintessentially American city that is at once fiercely unique and a microcosm of the nation ⎯ and our world ⎯ as a whole. Director, producer, cinematographer and editor Steve James is a two-time Academy Award nominee who has earned four Directors Guild of America (DGA) Award nominations, winning for 1994’s Hoop Dreams. That film marked his first Oscar nomination (Best Film Editing), as well as an Independent Spirit Award win, and James received his second Oscar nod (Best Documentary Feature) for 2016’s Abacus: Small Enough to Jail. The latter film was named one of the National Board of Review’s “Top 5 Documentaries of the Year” and won Best Political Documentary at the Critics’ Choice Awards. James’ other notable credits include Stevie, an Independent Spirit Award nominee and Sundance prize winner; The Interrupters, which won an Emmy, Independent Spirit Award and the duPont-Columbia Journalism Award; and the Roger Ebert biography Life Itself, named best documentary by the National Board of Review and the Producers Guild of America (PGA), as well as winning an Emmy winner for Best Editing. The director’s Starz docuseries America to Me premiered at Sundance and was one of the most acclaimed TV shows of 2018. www.citysoreal.film http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/citysoreal.mp3

This week on Episode 479 of Priority One --- We ‘Trek Out’ Star Trek’s Emmy Haul, Noah Hawley’s shelved Trek plans, Star Trek Universe’s New York Comic Con offerings, and Nostalgia at the movies! In Star Trek gaming, Timelines releases “Neither Created Nor Destroyed” and one of our audio editors, Gray, is stepping up to the mic for a look back at Gaming in the Star Trek Multiverse! Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Question Is: CQ: How do you feel about Noah Hawley’s Star Trek Film? Do you like the idea of moving away from Kirk and Picard? Do you think Federation Ideals should need to ‘be saved’? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Star Trek’s Emmy Showing 2020’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards show was a lot like the year itself - unorthodox. The awards ceremony, which ran from September 14th to September 19th, “honor[ed] outstanding artistic and technical achievement in a variety of television program genres, guest performances in weekly series, as well as exceptional work in the animation, reality and documentary categories.” The awards streamed throughout the week, and aired its final night on FXX ”Virtually-Live”. All nominees were required to pre-record an acceptance speech, the winners being played and the rest discarded. There was even a snafu when announcing the “Guest Actor in a Drama” - Ron Cephas Jones won, but Jason Bateman was announced the winner. Star Trek’s showing at the awards was much like the 2020 Creative Arts Emmy Awards Show and 2020 itself - a bit of a letdown. First, the good. On Wednesday September 16th, Trek took home its first Emmy Award. The crew behind “Star Trek: Picard” won the “Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Limited Series, Movie or Special” for it’s work on the episode “Stardust City Rag”. The episode faced - and bested - some stiff competition, including “The Mandalorian” and “ Westworld”. We would like to extend our congratulations to the team for its impressive win. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RM8EVFlRM4 For a full list of the winners, trek out our link to Variety in the show notes at priorityonepodcast.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07HjZKe-0ls Noah Hawley On His Trek Offering We’ve discussed unmade Star Trek movies Ad nauseam. Whether it’s S.J. Clarksons Kelvin IV, Tarantino’s piece of the action, or Noah Hawley’s recently shelved - and mystery shrouded - Star Trek offering; many many hours of talk have been had about zero hours of visual media. Guess what we’re going to do now? No, we’re not going to perform the Star Trek theme as a polka. Right? No? No. We’re going to talk about unmade Star Trek movies! But this time, we’re getting to pull back the veil of Noah Hawley’s script thanks to Hawley himself. Get your favorite sauce ready - we’ve got trek nuggets! On September 15th. Variety released an interview with Hawley, mainly talking about the upcoming fourth season of “Fargo” - of which Hawley created and serves as showrunner. Guess what else came up? No, not Polka Trek? What’s with you? He talked about his “in stasis” Star Trek script, saying ”We’re not doing Kirk and we’re not doing Picard. It’s a start from scratch that then allows us to do what we did with ‘Fargo,’ where for the first three hours you go, ‘Oh, it really has nothing to do with the movie,’ and then you find the money. So you reward the audience with a thing that they love.” Hawley With EW.com Later in the week, on September 18th, Entertainment Weekly released another article with the Writer/creator/showrunner to once again discuss Fargo’s fourth season - and Star Trek. When asked about the script, Hawley explained ”I can't say much about it except it's an argument for why humanity should prevail and why we should come together and unite, which I think is important – to look at the United Federation of Planets and remember at some point Earth is what we are now and then we invented warp technology and met extraterrestrial life and everybody came together. But how? How did we get from where we are now to where they are then? And what happens if that utopian reality is challenged? There are times of challenge and war when we have to prove our values all over again. Maybe there's a time in the Federation where this ideal is challenged and it won't survive on its own. It needs to be saved.” Star Trek Universe’s NYCC Plans In episode 473 of Priority One, we talked about the Star Trek cinema shuffle, including Noah Hawley’s script rumors. We also discussed the cancellation of New York Comic Con’s in-person festivities. This week, ViacomCBS released its plans for the New York Comic Con Metaverse online portal! Starting Thursday October 8th at Noon - and totally ignoring Priority One’s production schedule - Star Trek takes the virtual stage with its Star Trek Universe offering. “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and “Star Trek: Discovery” are set to do the heavy lifting, with StarTrek.com saying in part ”Join the creator of Star Trek: Lower Decks, Mike McMahan, and series voice cast for a special edition of CBS All Access’ official Star Trek after-show, “The Ready Room,” as they dive into the season one finale with host Wil Wheaton.”. The website continues ”Be the first to learn the latest about Star Trek: Discovery before season three premieres on Thursday, Oct. 15, exclusively on CBS All Access, in Canada on Bell Media's CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave, and on October 16 on Netflix in 188 countries. Join series stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman and Wilson Cruz; new cast members David Ajala, Blu del Barrio and Ian Alexander; and series co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise, for an exclusive conversation on what’s in store for the U.S.S. Discovery crew.” If you’re interested in trekking out ALL of ReedPop’s New York Comic Con offerings, TVLine posted a concise listing of the schedule. We’ll link that, and the other articles discussed, in our show notes. YUSUF HAWKINS: STORM OVER BROOKLYN, directed by Muta’Ali Muhammad (“Life’s Essentials with Ruby Dee”) and debuting on HBO Wednesday, August 12 (9:00-10:40 p.m. ET/PT), tells the story of Yusuf Hawkins, a black teenager who was murdered in 1989 by a group of young white men in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Yusuf Hawkins’ death and the official response to it sparked outrage in New York, unleashing a torrent of racial tension and spurring tireless civil rights activism that exposed deep racial prejudices and inequities which continue to plague the country today. Over 30 years later, New Yorkers, including Yusuf’s family and friends, reflect on the tragedy and the subsequent fight for justice that inspired and divided New York City. YUSUF HAWKINS: STORM OVER BROOKLYN utilizes archival footage and photos, witness statements, news footage, in addition to candid interviews with Yusuf’s mother, Diane; brothers, Freddy and Amir; cousins, Darlene and Felicia Brown; and friend Christopher Graham and the two friends with him during the attack, Luther Sylvester and Bensonhurst native Russell Gibbons. A harrowing account of an immutable part of the city’s history, and of a family coping with profound grief deepened by injustice, YUSUF HAWKINS: STORM OVER BROOKLYN details how the senseless murder that shook the foundation of the city shed light on deep racial divisions and inequity. Yusuf’s death and the demands of his family and community had political ramifications that contributed to the ousting of New York Mayor Ed Koch in favor of David Dinkins, the city’s first and only black Mayor. Director Muta’Ali Muhammad joins us to talk about how the murder of Yusuf Hawkins pulled back the curtain on the racism, both past a present can rear its head anywhere in America, even in a city thought to be a bastion of racial tolerance. Lifetime films are a genre all on their own. They have certain longstanding tropes that have made them a staple of American television for decades. That's not to say Lifetime movies are stale. In fact, the actors help keep the formula fresh year after year. Such is the case with Michael DeVorzon as Vicent Black in the upcoming title Her Deadly Groom. We'd had previously spoken to Mr. DeVorzon in May about Fast & Fierce: Death Race. Though this new project isn't a high-octane action film, it does feature a surprising number of action scenes and a great appearance by Eric Roberts. Her Deadly Groom will premiere on July 26th, 2020 at 8 pm ET/PT on Lifetime. Synopsis” Recent divorcee Alison (Kate Watson) is nervous about jumping back into the dating pool. When her best friend sets her up on a dating site, Alison is matched with Vincent (Michael DeVorzon), a mysterious man who appears to be too good to be true…because he is.
