If you've spent any time on that platform you will see video after video of people reacting to his song and it's moving. When I first heard it couldn't stop smiling, tapping my feet and fist pumping as certain sections. “What's the world gotten to, for people like me and people like you? It's a damn shame” Anthony states. Why has this previously unknown singer's song shot to record level listens, downloads and reaction videos? Socartes said that “it is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.” Yesterday I read many headlines from the bullshit media saying that we have figured it out…your dad, your neighbor Daryl, or YOU daddy-o are fat and it's not your fault. Somehow, despite the basic scientific principles and the FACT that we can not genetically change within LESS than a human lifetime…somehow we have spit in Darwin's face and and said, nope…we are genetically different now and THAT'S why we are DE-VOLVING…THAT'S why we are a nation of obese men and women. It's not your fault. It's your biology. I'm not here to lie to you. It is your fault, and it IS your responsibility. It IS your responsibility to learn the basics of your biology and how your body works. It IS your responsibility to take charge and craft your personal evolution. I know this goes against a conventional belief, but age has NOTHING to do with your body fat, your speed, your energy or your flexibility. A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat is one of my favorite paintings. A few years ago I had the pleasure of standing in front of this massive masterwork at the Art Institute of Chicago while having an expert show me a few of the painting hidden secrets. You may, if you grew up in the 80's like I did remember this painting from the 1986 moving Ferris Bueller's Day Off where Matthew Broderick's character skips school and, in one scene becomes lost in this painting. Seurat used a technique called pointillism to create his painting. Simply put pointillism is the of making dots of color lay side by side or on top of each other such that when you step back you don't see the original color or the dot but rather the mixture of color and the images created by the thousands of individual points. The experience of seeing “A Sunday Afternoon” up close versus stepping back and taking the painting in from a distance couldn't be more diametrically opposed. So, how does Seurat's painting, the technique he used an the simple act of laying one dot of color next to another teach us about how our brain works and how we can harness if for peak performance? Welcome to the expand and evolve podcast, I'm your host, Carly Pinchin. I feel I've learned my biggest teachings and lessons in life all revolving around health, relationships and money. Cicero said “what society does to its children, so will its children do to society.” As parents we have certain aspirations. We want our kids to know we love them. We want to be proud of them. We want them to grow, develop and be happy. Maybe we want to overcome our own poor parenting, or lack of parenting and be the change we always hoped for. When you think of the question “how do you want your kids to describe you?” what comes to mind? For me I want my kids to say that I was an example of a growth mindset, constantly learning, improving and living a healthy life. I want them to say that I embodied what I taught and that my life was one of crescendo, not stopping and getting stuck in any one point for too long. What about you? If you applied the “funeral test” what would you want your kids to say about you at your funeral? I think as parents this question and the answers that come from it can create a guiding force that propels us forward to becoming an evolved parent. Today's conversation takes us on a path of exploration into the question of what does it mean to be an evolved parent? Today's guest is my good friend Scott Jones! Scott Jones is is a Relationship Expert, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapist, Public Speaker, Organizational Consultant, and Owner and Director of Stillwater Academy. Scott has been working with adolescents and their families for over twenty-five years. He was the creator and director of Project IMPACT, a community-based drug and alcohol treatment program for adjudicated youth in Georgia. With over 25 years of experience in the adolescent treatment industry, Scott understands that change requires risk and healing and can only happen in a safe and nurturing environment. Scott takes a strength based, relational approach to therapy and loves helping people discover their unique strengths and “see” their inherent value, often for the first time. Scott specializes in working with clients who have co-occurring issues that often occur with addiction such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and attachment issues. Scott particularly enjoys working with clients who have experienced trauma and loss. When not at work, Scott can often be found on the soccer pitch refereeing amateur, high school, college, semi-pro and professional soccer. He serves on the Utah State Soccer Referee Committee and loves mentoring up and coming referees. He enjoys golf, running, cycling, and anything that has to do with water and sand. Scott has completed several half marathons, LOTAJA and the Salt to Saint cycling events. Linda Kalmeta's parents are from Croatia and came to the United States in the early 70's. Linda says that “when I was little, they would take us to Croatia for the summer so I began traveling at a young age. After college, Linda moved to Chicago and traveled to Mexico, The Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Antigua & Barbuda. She says “I fell in love with the beautiful beaches and aqua blue ocean water.” In 2016, Linda lost what she considered her my dream job. Though devastated she decided to plan a road trip to see the western United States. After the road trip she an her boyfriend caught the travel bug and spent the next 5 weeks traveling through 13 countries in Europe. The conversation took us to Iryna's Thailand adventure during the rainy season. No swimming or boat rides, but she discovered Muay Thai studios.
