Henry Ford did not just mass produce cars. As a member of the Episcopal Church, reader of New Thought texts, believer in the “gospel of reincarnation,” mass marketer of antisemitic material, and employer who institutionalized a social gospel, Henry Ford's contributions to American models of business were informed by and produced for an America he understood to be broadly Christian. Though Ford's efforts at the head of the Ford Motor Company have commonly been understood as secular, Ford himself was explicit that his work in engineering and auto production was prophetic and meant to remake the world. In Assembling Religion: The Ford Motor Company and the Transformation of Religion in America (NYU Press, 2025), Dr. Kati Curts presents a religious history of Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company repositions them within critical studies of religion, examining how Ford transformed American religious practice in the twentieth century. Drawing directly on documents from Ford's archive, it examines Ford's mass production methods and bureaucratic reforms as examples of prosperity gospel traditions, illuminating the ways manufacturing and technology intersect with American religious practice. Bridging American religious and industrial history, Assembling Religion offers a new and surprising way to understand Ford's impact on culture, commerce, and the technology of labor. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. LISTEN: Ford Sees $1.3B Tariff Refund, But High Aluminum Costs Remain a Problem

Ford Motor announced its Q1 financial results on Wednesday, and while the automaker experienced a 6% uptick in revenue to $43.3 billion, it also recorded a one-time swing from tariff refunds. Ford's Q1 results include a $1.3 billion one-time IEEPA tariff benefit for tariffs paid from March 2025 to February 2026.Still, challenges remain, like the fallout from the Novelis fire in September. Sherry House, Ford's chief financial officer, provided an update on efforts to get the key aluminum supplier back online. The massive fire at the Novelis plant in New York leveled the plant's hot mill last year, the facility's primary aluminum sheet production area. Ford stood to withstand significant losses, and the fire threatened F-150 production.House said Ford will incur $1.5 billion to $2 billion in costs to secure alternatively-sourced aluminum until the Novelis facility is operating at full throughput later this year.House said F-Series sales remain healthy as inventory recovers from the Novelis supply disruption—and the company will have a richer product mix as Novelis ramps production.Chief Operating Officer Kumar Galhotra said Ford still expects the Novelis hot mill to restart and begin to ramp in May. If the relaunch doesn't go according to plan, Ford has contingency plans in place, including additional aluminum supply to make sure production schedules aren't interrupted through the end of the year.Ford's global revenue grew by more than 6% despite a 4% decline in volume, which the automaker expected as it exited low-margin products like the Escape in North America and Focus in Europe. In the U.S., Ford had the highest Q1 revenue share in five years, driven by large utilities and trucks. House also said that Ford's balance sheet remains "strong," with some $22 billion in cash and $43 billion in liquidity. The company raised its full-year adjusted EBIT guidance to $8.5 billion to $10.5 billion, up from $8 billion to $10 billion. However, the guidance does not address the potential impact of sustained conflict in the Middle East or a significant downturn in the U.S. economy, which House said could materially affect industry demand.Ford also expects commodity headwinds of $2 billion, $1 billion higher than previous estimates, largely due to higher aluminum pricing driven by global supply constraints. That figure doesn't even include Novelis-related aluminum costs. Finally, the impact of ongoing tariffs at Ford remains unchanged, at about $1 billion and is now a part of the automaker's run-rate costs.#Ford, #manufacturing, #automotive, #earnings, #supplychain, #aluminum, #tariffs, #F150, #industrialnews, #businessnews, #OEM, #manufacturingindustry, #economy, #production, #logistics, #globalmanufacturing, #industrynews, #trucks, #marketnews, #operations

Expectations for further talks are building, as second round of talks expected soon, likely in Pakistan again. Trump continues to voice confidence about deal, though press also noted US sending over thousands of additional troops to region in bid to pressure Iran into agreement. Electric vehicle sales declined at most major manufacturers in November on the heels of an uptick in EV share of total new-car sales in the third quarter, due in large part to a pull-ahead of purchases before the federal EV tax credit expired.  Automakers including American Honda, Ford Motor, Hyundai, Subaru and Toyota reported double-digit year over year declines in EV sales during the month, while overall sales were mixed. EV sales slowed in November but in Q3 benefited from consumers wanting to take advantage of the federal tax credit of up to $7,500 before Sept. 30, contributing to a jump in new-vehicle EV financing share to 11.4%. A strong tax refund season is projected to boost car sales in early 2026 as some consumers lean into the used-car market due to affordability concerns. Used-vehicle values were flat YoY and up 1.2% month over month in November, according to the latest Manheim index. In powersports, sales were mixed for the most recent quarter. Canadian powersports manufacturer Bombardier Recreational Products' North American retail sales declined 4% YoY in its fiscal third quarter ended Oct. 31. RV manufacturer Thor Industries' net sales, however, jumped 11.5% YoY in its fiscal first quarter ended Oct. 31. In this episode of “Weekly Wrap,” Auto Finance News Editor Amanda Harris, Senior Associate Editor Truth Headlam and Associate Editor Aidan Bush discuss trends across vehicle sales, pricing, consumer sentiment and powersports for the week ended Dec. 5. This episode is sponsored by The Work Number by Equifax.

The car industry here has long had a shortage of skilled mechanics, but it seems it also a problem in the US. Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley raised the issue last week saying he had 5,000 open mechanic positions available despite eye watering salaries of US$120,000, nearly double the American workers medium salary. And he suggested it’s not just Ford adding “we’re in trouble in this country and we are not talking about it enough - We have over a million openings in critical jobs, emergency services, trucking, factory workers, plumbers, electricians, and tradesmen. It’s a very serious thing.” He added, jobs in the trades made our country what it is, and allowed people like his grandfather, who worked on the Model T and was employee 389, to have good lives. Somehow, the story seems all too familiar.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Investors are seeking more transparency following Tricolor's Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing last month, which has also prompted several auto lenders to review their books and assure investors of loan quality and operational health.  The auto finance industry and asset-backed securitization issuers could benefit from more transparency and consistency in disclosure policies, panelists said during a session on Oct. 21 at FT Live's ABS East in Miami. Auto lenders are reviewing their portfolios following allegations levied against Tricolor for double-pledging of assets on its warehouse lines of credit. Ford is moving its headquarters (HQ) for the first time in seven decades. The company's current headquarters, colloquially called “The Glass House,” opened in 1956. The carmaker is relocating to a newly constructed building 3 miles away in its longtime home of 1 American Road in Dearborn, Michigan, in November. The new 2.1-million-square-foot structure will formally be called “Ford World Headquarters” when it opens in November. It is part of a larger campus that will take the name of the current HQ: Henry Ford II World Center. Henry Ford II was the grandson of company founder Henry Ford and the uncle of Bill Ford, the automaker's current executive chairman. “When we move to the new headquarters, the 1 American Road address will move with it, because we're going to continue to develop products for the next century,” says Ted Ryan, Ford's heritage and brand manager. The new HQ is 5–10 minutes away and is designed to enhance collaboration and innovation by co-locating corporate leadership with design and engineering teams. It places 14,000 employees within a 15-minute walk of the main building. It will feature six design studios, a 160,000-square-foot food hall accessible to all Ford employees, wellness rooms, mothers' rooms and 300-plus tech-enabled meeting rooms. Ford's new home base is situated on the site of the former Product Development Center. When it was dedicated in 1953, President Dwight Eisenhower joined the celebration live through one of the first-ever uses of closed-circuit television. Some of the most well-known American vehicles were born there, including the Mustang, Thunderbird and F-Series trucks. “There have been multiple Ford family members who, as they walk in and they see the blue oval with ‘Ford' on the side of the building, they're really walking into their family home,” Ryan says. When a battery cell heats up a lot, it can propagate to its neighboring cell and usually they do propagate on the cell level and not the battery storage unit level, but Viridi Parente has figured out how to not have cell propagation and has gone through the UL 9540A fire testing to prove it. They are working on a residential battery that will be “listed and labeled for use in habitable spaces” which nobody has ever successfully done to the best of my knowledge. This means that you would not have to follow the 2024 International Residential Code (2021 IRC with different wording), which means they can put as much as they want in any room in a house, once this is a done deal, which will probably happen in the first quarter of 2026.   Here it is in the IRC: https://up.codes/viewer/mississippi/irc-2024/chapter/3/building-planning#R330.1   This is big news that could revolutionize energy storage.   Viridi Parente has two factories in historical places. The Ford Motor building in Richmond CA where Rosie the Riveter worked and was photographed during WW2 and also the other factory in Buffalo NY was a GM factory built in 1920 which was also building tanks for WW2, so besides kicking Nazi's butts, these buildings will help with the modernization of the grid.   Jon and Sean also talk about virtual power plants (VPPs) and the internet of things (IoT). They cover how using energy storage can lead to a lot less current on wires and how you can run 40 houses on a single 200A service with the right amount of energy storage and coordination.   Topics covered: Viridi Parente www.viridiparente.com Nikola Tesla George Westinghouse AC = Alternating Current DC = Direct Current HVDC = High Voltage Direct Current Arc Lighting Electric AC Lighting Devil in the White City (Historical Fiction Book) Thomas Edison Battery Inverter Pack System UL Listing UL 9540A Preventing Cell to Cell Propagation Sewage Lift Station Rosie the Riveter Transmission And Distribution Deferral ESS = Energy Storage System Jigar Shah EV = Electric Vehicle Energy Density LFP = Lithium Iron Phosphate NMC = Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide Thermal Runaway Cheese Cloth Test IRC = International Residential Code VPP = Virtual Power Plant IoT = Internet of Things Balcony Solar 18650 Battery CSA = Canadian Standards Association EV Charging California Olympics Tax Credit Energy Revolution   Reach out to Jon Williams Here: LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/jon-m-williams Viridi Parente www.viridiparente.com   Learn more at www.solarSEAN.com and be sure to get NABCEP certified by taking Sean's classes at www.heatspring.com/sean

Shares dipped 3% after the automaker raised its tariff cost estimate by half a billion dollars.Q2 results were down $800 million from tariffs, less than GM's $1.1 billion hit.Full-year tariff cost now projected at $3 billion, up from $2.5 billion.Ford sees 80% of U.S. sales from domestic production, cushioning some impact.CFO Sherry House said tariffs on Mexico and Canada stayed higher for longer than expected, with steel and aluminum levies adding to the strain.CEO Jim Farley: “We see there's a lot of upside depending on how the negotiation goes with the administration.”While consumer EV demand has cooled, the commercial EV market is charging forward, with fleet operators driving massive growth. The shift presents new opportunities — and challenges — for dealers, utilities, and policymakers.Commercial EV registrations soared 274% to nearly 25,000, led by delivery vans, utility trucks, and big rigs.Class 2 EVs used for work jumped 69%, while light consumer EVs slipped 2%.Amazon already runs 25,000 Rivian vans, building its own charging network of 32,000+ stations.Dealers remain a critical link, but many fleets report visiting stores where sales teams weren't ready to support EV conversions.Calstart's Jacob Richard said state incentives and programs are key “When looking at that total cost of ownership, you kind of need to have those upfront incentives in the near term.”OpenAI is taking a swing at the “CheatGPT” label with a major update designed to help, not hand out answers. Some of these, like Apple's patent for an AirPods case with a built-in display, or the one for an iPhone that folds in half, could easily become products if Apple thinks they'll make money. But sometimes, these patents outline technologies that seem impossible, or at least unlikely. Full Story …  Apple HomePod 3: Everything We Know So Far (From Tom's Guide)  Apple is anticipated to launch the HomePod 3 later in 2025, marking a significant upgrade from its predecessors. Key rumored features include the introduction of a touchscreen, which could position it against competitors like Amazon and Google's smart displays.  Full article here… Rumored Release Date: Analysts speculate that the HomePod 3 could be unveiled in either spring or summer 2025. However, there are rumors of a possible delay to the third quarter, coinciding with Apple's WWDC. Potential Price: No official pricing information has been released, but the current HomePod 2 retails for $299. Given the competitive landscape, analysts speculate the HomePod 3 might be priced around $249, but if bundled with accessories, the total could elevate to $499 or more. Display and Design: The standout feature of the HomePod 3 is expected to be its 6 to 7-inch OLED display, which would function as a smart home control hub. The device is anticipated to be slightly smaller than an iPad mini and could include a FaceTime camera for video calls and possibly act as a home security camera. Additionally, the HomePod 3 may incorporate presence sensors for smart home automation and feature a new custom-made Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip. Interface:The Apple HomePod 3 is primarily designed as a smart home hub, with an interface focused on controlling HomeKit devices, possibly resembling the Apple TV's layout based on recent code findings. Reports suggest a strong emphasis on security, enabling users to view live feeds from compatible security cameras and interact with visitors, though compatibility with HomeKit remains limited compared to competitors. While the HomePod 3 will prioritize smart home functionality over audio, users will still be able to manage playlists. Interaction will occur through both touch and Siri voice commands for tasks like setting timers and family communication, and the integration of Apple Intelligence will enhance its smart capabilities, the specifics of which are yet to be clarified. What We Want to See: For the HomePod 3, there are several desirable features that users would like to see, starting with a larger interface, as a 6-inch screen feels limited compared to similarly sized smart displays from Amazon that support a variety of streaming services. Users hope for an interface akin to the Echo Hub, which visually represents the layout of a home and displays smart devices in their respective rooms for easier interaction. Additionally, an ambient mode that showcases images from Apple Photos would allow the device to function as a digital photo frame when not in use for controlling smart home devices. If Apple Intelligence is a prominent feature, it is desired that users can create smart home routines effortlessly, such as setting commands to turn on lights and play music simultaneously upon unlocking the front door. Updates regarding the HomePod 3 will follow as more information arises. I won't bore you with a long essay, but in a nutshell I'll list some of my pros/cons. MySports Pros:  The Sports Central section gives you nothing but sports-related material.   You can set your favorite teams and easily follow/record their games as well as hide the scores to avoid spoilers. You also get all of the DTV free streaming channels, so there are over 100 channels available at sign-up (from what I've heard. I didn't count).   You can get 3 months at $49.99/mo. before it goes to the regular price.  Last day for the promo is 2/28. Unlimited DVR will keep your programming for up to 9 months. Two free 4K sports channels. MySports Cons:  The two free 4K sports channels only offer a game or two per week.  Some of them require a subscription to another package. I was only offered two local stations (FOX and NBC), so I have to rely on other apps in order to get ABC and CBS programming.   The screen layout is not bad, but I still see a lot of non-sports stuff on the home page.  You have to go to the Sports Central section to get away from most of that. You can only do a Season Pass/Wishlist for teams in men's sports.  I tried to set a season pass for a women's college basketball team and a WNBA team and it forced me to record the entire league instead of just one specific team. It doesn't have Key Plays/Rapid Replay options to speed you through highlights to catch up to live TV for games. It would only allow me to fast-forward 15 seconds at a time instead of a continuous fast-forward other programs give you when you hold down the FF button. I just felt like I was stepping back into the past by switching to MySports, so I decided against it.  Hopefully, they'll improve and modernize their features a bit.  Although YouTube TV has its faults and a high price, as a sports fan, I love the Key Plays and the ease in finding any sports team or event and setting a season pass/wishlist. -Quincy Ridgeland, Mississippi
