This week we talk Wizz and Colt, two of the organizers for our local gaming convention, the Pittsburgh Gaming Expo (or PGX for short). It's held Sept 30th - October 1st, 2023 at the Monroville Convention Center, just outside of Pittsburgh PA. You'll have to listen for the details, but let's just say that it's a really fun time of table-top and video gaming, cosplay, music, and just nerdy, geeky culture in general. And of course, you'll be able to find both of us Steves at the show! Interviewing Malik Shishtawi, Founder of Arab SportsTech & Gaming Expo Arab SportsTech & Gaming Expo is based in Qatar and is an opportunity to meet key players & leaders from the Sports Tech, eSports & Sports world in Qatar and the world, & to discuss latest trends and solutions in the industry. It focuses on providing real-world case studies, and learnings, enabling companies, teams, and individuals to excel in the sports industry. In this conversation, Malik talks about how everyone now has their eyes on the middle east. The main objective is to bring the right audience and stakeholders together. Mangusteen is the event company that hosts the expo. It was previously known as the Arab SportsTech Forum and is now the Arab SportsTech & Gaming Expo. What started out of passion for exploring the internet and following its evolution. Malik first launched the Arab Social Media forum once he identified a gap in the region. What spanned across 6 countries and 8 editions had attendees who now hold very prominent positions in international companies heading social media or the digital departments, accomplishing their initial mission as a forum. Malik also sheds light on the legacy of the World Cup and its impact on development of sport in the Middle East. He also talks about plans to launch an investor and startup matchmaking platform for the region. This week we bring you the recording of a panel that we were asked to do at the Pittsburgh Gaming Expo! We talk about why as the GM, you should be the biggest fan of your players. The audio isn't the greatest, but given we sorta forgot to prepare for actually recording live, we didn't think it sounded too bad for setting a cell phone on the table between us, in a room with a PA system, and close to 200 video and arcade games! So enjoy, and if you're able to do so, plan on joining us again there next year! We would very much like to thank the staff and volunteers of the convention for putting on a wonderfully fun event! This convention focused primarily on video games, but also included comics, cosplay, toys, podcasting and plenty of other cool pop culture goodness. On the episode, you'll hear my conversations with many of the indie comic creators that attended the event. Brian Lau, Matt Frey, Jay Kalagayan, Neil Moherman, Sean Forney and Rodney Fyke all share info about their current and future comic book projects. Please check out these talented folks on the internet or through their social media outlets. Don't forget to rate, review and subscribe to the show!

Sorry.

2019's Let's Play Gaming Expo was the best so far - we go over why it was so awesome, and our favorite parts of the convention.
For those of you who grew up in the 80's & 90's, enjoying the golden age of console gaming, do we have a treat for you!
We're so excited to share with you our live episode from this year's Long Island Retro Gaming Expo! Recorded back on August 10th, Brian & Calvin welcomed someone who was a passenger in a Crazy Taxi and he got a bit lost. Enjoy! Starring Micah Sherman! Another signal we definitely wanna boost is William Kage -- the guy made his own 16-bit-style online game engine and writes some really excellent tunes inspired by 90's game scores. So much fun and so many talented people at the expo (and at Dave & Buster's).

We took a trip to Austin for the SXSW Gaming Expo this past weekend and it was a blast! We played a ton of awesome indie games both released and unreleased, met some awesome people and got to see some cool parties. Some of our highlights included Astroneer, The Gardens Between, Zarvot and Joggernauts. In our news, Halo Master Chief Collection was announced for PC and 343 Studios got a bunch of pizza. Brendan Greene is starting a new internal division at PUBG Corp and Ninja was paid around 1 million to stream Apex Legends on launch day. Our discussion this week involves premium, early access content. Many games have special editions priced higher than 59.99 that include not only bonus in-game items but also early access to play the game or early access to DLC. This opens a wider conversation about whether or not we're overspending on content or access and if it's fair to the broader community as a whole. Supanova Comic-Con & Gaming Expo has been the welcoming home of Australia’s pop culture fandom since 2000; a place where fans inspired by imaginary worlds emanating from comics, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, gaming, nostalgia, and literature have been able to come together to celebrate. A place to rejoice in cosplay and also a place to express their inner geek and their inner child. What used to be considered nerdy and not really mainstream has well and truly shifted into the spotlight in recent times. Some of that can be attributed to the rise in popularity of esports as well as the never-ending releases of superhero movies. At Supanova, supa-star celebrities, fan-clubs, exciting exhibitors, and exclusives have been woven in with entertainment technology, collectables, and toys. Whether they are seven, or seventy, Supanova boasts an incredibly engaged audience who have huge passion for the content. That presents a great opportunity for brands through sponsorship. Listen in as Patrick Bradley, Business Development, Brand Partnerships, takes us inside sponsorship at Supanova. You can learn more at www.supanova.com.au and connect with Patrick via email on patrick at @supanova.com.au or via LinkedIn. During the show, Patrick talks about Supanova’s dedicated sponsorship website, sponsor.supanova.com.au, which includes more information on the MWave case study discussed. Also joining us is Sam Irvine, SponServe’s GM – Product, to discuss his latest blog which highlights some of the things that we can all learn from Budweiser’s activations as an official partner of the FIFA World Cup.
We spent our weekend at South by Southwest in Austin, TX for the Gaming Expo. We met some incredible people with remarkable stories, lots of laughs and some fantastic games. We talk all about the games we got to play while on the show floor including West of Loathing, Once Upon a Coma and more. We also finally jump into Fortnite Battle Royale, afraid to escape from PUBG and find it to be much better than we anticipated. Dare we say hooked? 600,000 people tuned in this past week to watch Drake and Ninja play Fortnite so that was partially why we jumped in. In addition, Arlington, TX of all places is getting a huge eSports arena and we learn the height of Mario character's based on Luigi's penis size. This week, we sit down and discussion innovative gameplay mechanics. There are many things we take for granted these days such as auto-saves, destructible environments and even jumping. Can you believe we used to not be able to jump in games? We discuss all of the major gameplay mechanics and how they changed the way we play games forever. Austin took a trip to Austin, TX for the SXSW Gaming Expo. He got to experience the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. We also got exclusive access to a Twitch party and a chance to hear the first details on Telltale Game's new Batman game. We also talk about The Witcher 3, Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and the Division. We also played some indie games such as The Deer God, How to Survive, Depth, Ori and the Blind Forest and Flower. We have a ton of content this week! In this episode we explore the world of indie game development. Kenneth and Kevin are joined by Sean Goncalves (@The_Son_of_Wolf) and Ben Myres (@_benjamming) from Nyamakop (@_Nyamakop), makers of independent games in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. We touch on the difference between "AAA" and "indie" games, tools of the trade, the experiences of releasing a game, and how accurate the Indie Game movie is. Ben & Sean share their experiences and observations and offers a ton of great insights and advice, and many ways to get involved in making games. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that there is a very active and successful community of game makers in South Africa. There are plenty of opportunities for beginners and experts alike to get involved with game development, and we hope to have helped clear some of the fog of war surrounding the topic.
