In this episode, Nadia and Alyssa kick off Nadia's senior year of college with an in-depth discussion about the excitement and anxieties that come with being a fourth-year student. The conversation begins with Nadia explaining her summer dialogue experience in Spain, where she completed her Spanish minor through a 5-week study abroad program. She reflects on how the change of pace was refreshing but also made her appreciate the structure of being back on campus. The discussion then shifts to Nadia's current activities and commitments, including her new job at Greystone cafe, her final year of gymnastics as social chair, and the upcoming co-op application process. This leads into a deeper conversation about her top three worries as a senior: choosing the right co-op (clinical vs. non-clinical), managing her tendency to overcommit herself, and the general anxiety of not knowing if she's making the right choices.Nadia and Alyssa explore the concept of creating your own path rather than following a predetermined track, using the metaphor of different routes from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The episode concludes with discussions about future living arrangements and plans to bring guests onto the podcast to help navigate senior year decisions.TakeawaysSenior year brings a unique mix of excitement for new opportunities and anxiety about making the "right" choices for the future.Study abroad experiences like Northeastern's dialogue program can provide valuable perspective and help students appreciate their home campus structure. The pressure to choose between clinical and non-clinical co-ops reflects the broader challenge of figuring out career direction without having to commit permanently. Many students struggle with overcommitting themselves when they have free time, leading to a cycle of self-judgment and overwhelm. There's no single "right" path after college - like choosing different routes between cities, each path offers unique experiences and learning opportunities.Taking a gap year after graduation is becoming more common and can be a strategic choice rather than a delay.Living arrangements during extended college programs (4.5 years) present unique challenges, especially when considering expensive cities like Boston, New York, or San Francisco.Chapters0:10-1:01 - Welcome Back and Senior Year Introduction1:02-3:04 - Spain Dialogue Experience and Summer Reflection3:05-4:09 - Current Activities: Job, Gymnastics, and Co-op Applications4:10-5:55 - Existential Crisis and Post-Graduation Anxiety5:56-7:57 - Worry #1: Co-op Selection and Career Direction8:08-9:19 - Worry #2: Overcommitment and Time Management9:20-12:22 - Worry #3: General Anxiety and Creating Your Own Path12:23-14:46 - Living Arrangements and Housing Challenges14:47-16:18 - Future Podcast Plans and Guest Ideas

Alright girl, today I've got Emma Nedov on the pod. If you don't know her — she's a two-time Olympian, an Australian gymnastics champion, and a woman who has lived the full arc of chasing a dream, breaking down, walking away, and then coming back stronger. Emma's story is wild. She trained for 20 years, missed out on the Games more than once, retired, and then — three years later — made the comeback of a lifetime to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics. What I love about Emma is her honesty about the falls, the pressure, the heartbreak, and the grit it takes to rise again. She's proof that falling isn't failure — it's part of the process. In our conversation, she shares the 10 lessons gymnastics gave her that now fuel her life outside the sport — lessons on resilience, patience, fear, identity, and why the goal is just a guide. This one is raw, inspiring, and full of wisdom for any woman who's chasing something bigger than herself. Why Listen Because you're not afraid of falling—you're afraid of not getting back up the right way. Press play for a blueprint in resilience that actually translates outside the gym. What We Cover Learn how to fall. It's not about avoiding failure — it's about falling with dignity and rising with choice, not obligation. Patience is power. The results you want take years, not weeks. Learn to love the long game. Perform under pressure. Nerves don't disappear; you just learn how to move with them. Do the session you don't feel like. That's usually the one that changes you. Visualization is a weapon. See it, feel it, practice it — and your body will follow. Sleep is non-negotiable. It's the quiet performance tool nobody respects enough. Fuel like an athlete. Food isn't punishment or reward — it's a tool for power, strength, and longevity. Don't chase perfection. You'll never control the judges, the scores, or the outcome — only your own performance. Build your board of directors. You need people around you who believe in you when you don't. The goal is the guide, not the prize. Who you become in the process is the real win. Key Takeaways Resilience isn't heroic; it's practiced. Tiny fails count. Your feelings don't run the show—your preparation does. The most rewarding sessions are the ones you wanted to skip. Control the controllables: your focus, your execution, your recovery. The goal is a north star, not a verdict. The practice is the point. Power Lines to Share “Learn to fall well—and rise because you choose to, not because you're told to.” — Emma “Act despite how you feel. That's where power lives.” — Emma “Your performance is none of your feelings' business.” — Emma “The practice is the point. The process is the point.” — Amy “Build your table. Fill the seats. Nobody wins alone.” — Emma & Amy Connect with Emma The gram: https://www.instagram.com/ejnedov/ Website: https://www.emmanedov.com/ Next Steps
There is nothing more frustrating than setting a goal, working hard for it, and then feeling like you are getting nowhere. You show up, put in the effort, and instead of building confidence, you leave practice more discouraged than when you started. In this week's episode of the PerformHappy Podcast, I'm breaking down why so many athletes get stuck in this cycle and how to set goals that actually move you forward. Instead of focusing on what is “wrong” or what you “can't do,” I'll show you how to reframe your goals so that they build confidence, not fear.At a recent Confident Gymnast Clinic, I worked with a gymnast who swore her switch leaps were terrible. She wanted to “fix” them because they were “bad.” After a few reframes, her goal shifted to simply getting better at her switch leap. That change in language, paired with a focus on small, specific improvements, completely transformed her progress. Within ten turns, she went from discouraged to confident on high beam. This is the power of focusing on what you can do instead of what you cannot. Progress does not come from criticizing yourself, it comes from celebrating small wins, stacking them over time, and building a foundation of trust in yourself. If your athlete is stuck in a cycle of frustration, or if you as a parent or coach are unsure how to help them move forward, this episode will give you the tools to change the way you set and support goals. In this episode, Coach Rebecca talks about:The trap of negative goal setting. Why progress starts with point A, not perfection. Simple shifts athletes, parents, and coaches can make today. How celebrating small wins builds lasting confidence.“Instead of focusing on what you cannot do, focus on what you can do, and then ask yourself, what is one thing I can do right now to make it better?” – Rebecca SmithLearn exactly what to say and do to guide your athlete through a mental block with my new book "Parenting Through Mental Blocks" Order your copy today: https://a.co/d/g990BurFollow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/complete_performance/ Join my FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/completeperformancecoaching/ Check out my website: https://completeperformancecoaching.com/Write to me! There's a lot in gymnastics that frustrates parents—but truthfully, much of it is out of your control. You can't control the judging. Or the coaching. You can't control every practice or every skill. So as a parent of a gymnast, what can you actually control? Gymnastics is a roller coaster of a ride. There are so many factors outside a parent's control along the way. But one thing I've learned in 6+ years of working with gymnastics parents…most wait too late.January is our biggest cohort of the year which is great but also frustrating because there are truly a few nutrition situations that improve within days to weeks. A lot of them take weeks + months (or even years) and waiting until the START of competition season might mean its too late for that particular season. But here's the good news: there are some powerful things you can control that directly impact your gymnast's health, performance, and longevity in the sport. If you're wondering what you actually have control over as a parent in this sport, this episode will help you redirect your energy to the things that matter most.✨I'm sharing three key areas that will make a huge difference this competition season: ✅ Making sure your gymnast is eating enough to grow, develop, heal, repair, and recover.✅ Teaching your gymnast how to fuel her body—understanding food's role in energy, performance plates, and smart snack choices.✅ Involving your gymnast in the process of food prep and planning so she's confident and capable when it comes to fueling herself. In August 2025, the men's and women's British artistic gymnastics World championships trials took place at the Lilleshall National sports centre. It was a rare opportunity to watch the very best athletes in the country compete in high level competition and see behind the curtain. I'm going to be talking about some of the standout performances and my big takeaways following the event which include highlights from Joe Fraser and Alex Cash. I'll also share my personal experiences visiting Singapore this summer, where gymnastics afforded me an amazing opportunity to revisit the country that hosted the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games. And this is my story.
