In this episode I have the privilege of speaking to Eva Bueno, mostly known as Eva Loves Raw! Eva was fully raw for over 6 years to turn her health around and prevent a suggested hysterectomy and since then her life changed; giving birth to her You Tube Channel, her coaching programs and the life she always wanted to live! We speak about her journey, transformation and development within her raw Vegan diet. About Eva Eva was born in Spain in the 70s and moved to the United States to study abroad at the age of 17. She immediately fell in love with everything the US had to offer, and one of the first things she came to love most was American food! Growing up in Spain meant sticking to a traditional diet of meat and dairy with some fruits and vegetables. She almost never ate junk food, fast or processed food. But, In spite of not having had junk foods growing up, Eva's diet was not great as it did include lots of pastries, oils, fried foods and traditional Spanish foods which were heavy in fats. Between her diet growing up, and the newly found diet in the US, Eva found herself plagued by hormonal and other health issues around the time she hit her early forties. She had started eating more fruits and vegetables, had been vegetarian and, unfortunately, a junk food vegan for some years, but the damage had been done. During this challenging time, Eva's period would start and then last 2-3 weeks of extremely heavy flow. Twice she was so weak from blood loss, she was told she needed a blood transfusion. Eva's gynecologist put it all down to age and declared what she called peri- menopausal issues as “normal”. She went on to prescribe Hormonal Therapy, recommended a painful procedure to have the lining of her uterus scraped off followed by a hysterectomy, if that treatment didn't yield the desired result. Eva declined, feeling deep inside that there had to be a better way to heal, and that pills and surgery were just a quick fix that didn't address the real cause of her troubles. Eva took stock of all the symptoms she was suffering with : extreme mood swings, bad breath, hair loss, body odor, acne, weakness and fatigue, on and off depression, anxiety, eye bags, extreme food addictions and an overall sense of just not feeling good no matter how long she slept or rested, and decided to take matters in her own hands Eva found the Raw Food lifestyle after attending the Hippocrates Health Institute! What a transforming miracle raw foods brought on! Eva has been a raw foodie consistently since 2014 and it has changed her whole outlook on life.To reach Eva and work with her directly please visit: https://www.eva-loves.com/To join Eva's Private Community: https://www.eva-loves.com/thrive-and-...If you're stuck for raw vegan recipes visit. https://www.eva-loves.com/ and get a free recipe ebook when you sign up to be in Eva's mail-list Follow Eva on Social Instagram https://www.instagram.com/evalovesraw/ You Tube https://www.youtube.com/channel
You likely have either a strong opinion, a fear, or curiosity about HRT for women. Let me assure you that this episode isn't referring to something you take as a pill, a cream, a trochee, a shot, a pellet, or a patch. Said like that, this is much simpler! Like my friend, and community favorite, Magdalena Wzelaki of Hormones Balance has directed for years, you can cook and eat for hormone balance. As another podcast guest, Dr. Mindy Pelz, and friend Cynthia Thurlow share, you can eat within a certain window of time for hormone balance… you too can use strength training and other exercises to create hormone replacement solutions. Let me say this… you could be using or abusing exercise and its effects on muscle. Stay tuned to this episode. My hope… it's empowering. So that no matter what your choice or why on HRT for women, or yourself, you have an option right now. Questions I Answer in this Episode Why the simplest solution for HRT for women is overlooked (men too) How muscle functions “as if” it were an endocrine organ What influence muscle has on insulin, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone and thyroid To a lesser extent in this episode, how those hormones also influence muscle Muscle is HRT. The way to muscle is through strength training. Strength training is HRT. Strength training and exercise overall can be done in a way to support your hormone balance. Yet, it's important to say, you can also experience what women often do starting HRT, and that is the frustration of testing, trying, and testing again to get the “cocktail” of replacement right. When your status changes, all the integrated parts change. Your stress, your sleep, your diet, your habits, your exercise… or the peri to post menopause transition… all alter the effectiveness of your hormones. Still listening/reading? Good… let's do this. Once a woman doesn't have the same level of estrogen and progesterone she did, building muscle makes a big difference in the way she ages. If you've been lifting weights, you're already aging better than your non-lifting peers. Look around you, can you see it? Weight lifting takes up where estrogen left off, if you: Lift to fatigue Recover between (including the rest and the protein and sleep) By exchanging endurance exercise (chronic cardio) for strength you offset cortisol. Cortisol has an uptick when estrogen falls. That means, women no longer have the muscle-stimulating effects of estrogen AND they have the deleterious effects of cortisol breaking down their muscles further. When you do chronic cardio, cortisol rises during exercise WITHOUT the subsequent fall that we associate with feeling better, reducing stress levels. So you're potentially causing muscle wasting. When you lift weights you don't have this cortisol response. For a minute or less elevate cortisol. Then you put the weight down and recover. It's a perfect use (and no abuse) of cortisol. The same is true for high-intensity interval training. No Muscle More Fat Loss of muscle means a gain of fat. A midlife woman's body is already easily producing more fat to produce more hormones.] By default, even if fat isn't gained, the percentage of body fat goes up. But in minutes- or so it seems for many women – your metabolism slows (not because it must… but because she may have this first wake-up call that she hasn't been eating enough protein, sleeping enough, or doing enough or the right kind of strength training. She will gain fat. Even if her false golden idol scale says she hasn't gained weight, she has changed her body composition such that she doesn't have metabolically active tissue anymore. She will gain weight, and it will be 100% fat. Many women haven't thought about it like this. Have you? HORMONES & Muscle | The Exercise Role Estrogen and progesterone levels play a big part in glucose regulation. A high percentage of women become less insulin sensitive or said otherwise- insulin resistant because they're eating the same as they've always done, exercising the same as they've always exercised and it's not going to work the same. More muscle acts like a bigger sponge for blood sugar. Then each time you move that muscle – in daily activities of life, in walking, and in intentional exercise, creating muscle is HRT for Women 40+. It's not giving extra estrogen and progesterone, but it's helping take up where estrogen left off and where insulin would have to take over, with its negative effects. (Progesterone, BTW, responds well to certain foods, and making sure you're not going too low on carbs too often is a big part of balancing this hormone). How Can Exercise Negatively Affect Hormones? Women who revert to cardio, cardio, and cardio are also potentially elevating cortisol with endurance activity. More pronounced even if they're already stressed, sleep deprived, or eating too little protein and carbs to fuel. This is at that moderate level they've been led to believe (even we as fitness professionals have been led to believe, is best). With less cardio and more strength training + low-level exercise, + anaerobic work (getting breathless) -when appropriate, a woman stands a chance at improving her life. Strength training and HIIT also have a positive (and not negative) effect on testosterone and growth hormone as well as cortisol. Resistant Exercise as HRT for Women 40+ and Mood Then there's mood. A recent study in the Journal of Physiology (Jan 2023) found that high intensity has a far greater effect on the BDNF factor in the brain. Studies in the recent past (excluding the pandemic) showed high-intensity high-impact studies done on postmenopausal women to be not only effective in bone density benefits but also researchers discovered something. They said in the discussion that the participants liked HIIT. Compliance and adherence rates were high, and the exercise had notable favorable effects on mood and sense of accomplishment. These are all related to serotonin, oxytocin, dopamine and of course endorphins. More muscle enables more motivation to do other activities that bring each of these as well. Muscle truly is hormone replacement therapy without any negative effects. You don't have to remember it every day, just twice weekly like an appointment. AND… you get all the positive side effects. Motivation for Muscle-Enhancing Hormone Balancing Exercise? Look, even now… at 59 I am not as motivated to exercise simply because I'm going to age well and function well and feel good at 85. What gets me off the couch or away from this d#*@ keyboard…. Is… feeling good today. Looking good… today. And you get that… as well as your future self. Imagine if you had better body composition, better sleep, no belly fat, good gut health, your balance and mobility of a 30-year-old… because you'd started lifting weights (effectively) at 30. Well, your 85 or 95 yr-old self is going to ask you WTH you were thinking if you don't start now. We can argue about body weight vs free weights or suspension tools.. You can ask me about Pilates, but nothing… nothing is going to compare to the benefits of lifting heavy free weights (even if you add a few machines). Start light, progress wisely, and you'll find your sweet spot for the ability to progress without risk. I can guarantee you, without maintaining and gaining muscle, you will age sicker, fatter, and weaker than if you're lifting. We've seen it in science for decades. It's too common knowledge to ignore in 2023 and beyond. People who undergo painful and traumatic experiences tend to suffer from chronic stress. Cortisol, a primary stress hormone, increases as a result. The higher amounts of this hormone in the body cause a drop in the levels of progesterone, a female hormone that is crucial for the regulation of ovulation and menstruation. When this happens, estrogen dominance occurs, bringing with it a myriad of symptoms, including lumpy and fibrocystic breasts, period problems, thyroid nodules, weight gain, and hot flashes. In today's episode of From Betrayal to Breakthrough, Integrative hormone and nutrition expert Magdalena Wszelaki shares with us some excellent ways on how she was able to restore her hormonal balance, so like her, we can also look, feel, and live better. About Guest/Topic Magdalena Wszelaki is the founder of Hormones Balance, a thriving online community dedicated to helping women balance hormones naturally. Magdalena is a nutrition coach, certified herbalist, a published bestselling cookbook author, speaker, and educator. She's got a long history of hormonal challenges. Her health crisis was the direct result of her highly stressful life in advertising - starting from autoimmune conditions such as Graves' and Hashimoto's Disease to total burnout and estrogen dominance. Today, she is in full remission and lives a symptom-free life. She has dedicated herself to teaching women how to find their sacred hormonal balance with her books, online programs, and education. In This Episode Who is Magdalena Wszelaki? [0:08] What happens when you have stress-related symptoms and what is estrogen dominance? [1:50] What can you do to manage your hormones? [13:16] …and many more Quotes “I think you can only improve your health when you look back at what has happened and then you know, say, hey, look.. I'm never going to this again, right? Or if I'm stressed and it's inevitable because a lot of times, we just can't avoid it then, I'm gonna equip myself with all the tools I know, that I've learned to really increase the sense of resistance in my body. That I've got a little armor on me, right?” [12:11] “When you start off your day with a lot of sugar and even if it's just a bowl of cereals or a bowl of oatmeal with fruit on it and drizzled with some maple syrup, well guess what? You're just giving yourself a sugar bomb. And the problem is that when you're already stressed out, you're already throwing your hormones out of balance with stress…remember that sugar is insulin and insulin is a hormone, too, so you're really adding to the fire.” [27:37] “Pick something that you can really do something really, really nourishing, nurturing for yourself in time of stress…The truth is you don't just have to do everything...It's really one step at a time. Every small change matters.” [31:09] “Making small changes like including quality Vitamin C, Zinc and Magnesium can make a huge difference in how you feel.” [33:22] Resources Mentioned Hormones Balance Website Overcoming Estrogen Dominance PBT Podcasts Post Betrayal Syndrome Quiz PBT Institute Membership Community Trust Again: Overcoming Betrayal and Regaining Health, Confidence and Happiness From Hardened to Healed: Release Resistance, Get Unstuck, and Create a Life You LoveHealed or Hardened quiz

Estrogen dominance is such an important health concern for women today. It’s not only the signs and symptoms that interrupt the quality of your daily life now, and hi-jack your best intentions for exercise. Your future health is also a concern. You’ll hear more in this episode. This episode is brought to you by Flipping 50’s Fiber Boost. It’s a convenient way to boost your daily fiber intake, gently with more than 6 food sources of fiber so your body digests it just like you were eating a mixed meal. No harmful single-sourced and unpredictable results. Fiber helps you eliminate excess estrogens. Protein and fiber at every meal to increase satiety and kill cravings, by stabilizing blood sugar. Use FB10 for 10% off your first container. Let’s dive into this episode. This is fantastic timing! Magdalena's new book is out this week (March 2021). You're going to love it! My guest: Magdalena Wszelaki is the founder of Hormones Balance, a thriving online community dedicated to helping women balance hormones naturally... Magdalena is a nutrition coach, certified herbalist, a published bestselling cookbook author, speaker and educator. She’s got a long history of hormonal challenges. Her health crisis was the direct result from a highly stressful life in advertising - starting with Graves’ and Hashimoto’s Disease (autoimmune conditions causing thyroid failure to total burnout and estrogen dominance. Today she’s in full remission, lives a symptom-free life and teaches women how to find their sacred hormonal balance with her books, online programs and education. Questions we answer in this episode: Why is estrogen dominance the most important health concern for women today? What is it? What are “dirty estrogens?” What are the most prevalent symptoms? Who is most likely to be affected? What common mistakes is a woman likely to make as she misinterprets symptoms? Cellulite, and stubborn butt and hip fat are often the side effects of ED, so if more exercise or even correct exercise alone does not help it budge, what then should she be looking at starting or stopping to support herself? What does it take to turn this around? How long does it take to start feeling better? Hot flashes among other symptoms are an accepted part of menopause for many women… so much that I cringe when I go on social media where over and over again women are reading the symptoms of menopause… as if they’re normal. You and I agree they’re common not normal - what are your suggestions for reducing or eliminating hot flashes? Why does Western medicine not recognize or treat Estrogen Dominance? Is there an age where ED is no longer a possibility? What 3 things can a woman do to improve her estrogen dominance right now? Exercise is tricky… Many women have an exercise or a routine they’re very tied to… and would defend that they love it… can you address how even then… that that exercise may not love them back? Quotes: “The whole beauty of epigenetics is the fact of nutrition and lifestyle changes. Your ability to detoxify, sleep, your stress levels, your food quality, can really manage your hormones in very effective ways.” (8:46) “There is the combination of fear on my end for sure, seeing so many women in my family passing away and suffering with estrogen dominance. Combined with incredible curiosity and saying that ‘I don’t want to live that way, I want to be in charge of my health and mitigate as best I can’. But also thinking ‘why on earth are there so many women that are suffering, and nobody is talking about this?’” (10:18) “You might need to be on the higher side of the range to feel good, where I need to be on the lower side of the range to feel good. And if I was in your range, even though we are both inside the normal range, I would feel overly estrogenic, just as an example.” (25:09) “When you start making these changes it becomes second nature. When you start feeling good and start feeling wins, that’s when you kind of go ‘I don’t want to go back to eating sh*t food’. And they are so fundamental to your overall health.” (41:10) Resources Mentioned: Hormones Balance Website How To Grow Broccoli Sprouts Cooking for Hormone Balance by Magdalena Wszelaki Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube

Book:COOKING FOR HORMONE BALANCE: https://amzn.to/2ux1JTB hormonesbalance.com Balancing Hormones http://learntruehealth.com/balancing-hormones Balancing Hormones For Optimal Health Balancing hormones is an essential component to boost one’s energy and mood. It can also lower inflammation and gain strength. Balancing hormones can also help you restore healthy weight. But most people fail to realize this because balancing hormones seem complicated but it’s not. And my guest, Magdalena Wszelaki who’s a Holistic Nutrition Coach tells us why. Looking Back Magdalena Wszelaki believes her condition traces back to the time when her mother was continued smoking during pregnancy. Magdalena Wszelaki was not breastfed because she was born in an era when formula milk became popular. The first month she was born, Magdalena Wszelaki had pneumonia and had to undergo frequent ear drainage as a child. Eventually, she learned that she was sensitive to foods with gluten, dairy, and eggs. In other words, her digestive system was messed up. It became worse in her 20s when Magdalena Wszelaki’s food sensitivities were manifesting in another way, which was through horrible acne. It was also because of stress from her career, smoking, no food control and relying on alcohol. Diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Magdalena Wszelaki’s life made a significant turn in her late 30s. She was 36 years years old in 2008 when she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and living in Shanghai. That time, there wasn’t any information on the internet, and no doctor could explain what autoimmune disease is. Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system stops. It makes you feel sluggish, have brain fog, lose hair and feeling fatigued all the time. It also causes depression and anxiety. “My body gave in one day, that’s when I was diagnosed in Shanghai. It doesn’t just happen because it’s years of stuff that we do consciously or unconsciously to ourselves. But eventually, the body speaks up and says it has had enough,” shares Magdalena Wszelaki. Changing Her Life In 2009, Magdalena Wszelaki went to nutrition school. She changed things around for herself and helped dozens of women along the way. She eventually learned about the importance of balancing hormones and all of that has been a big inspiration when she put together her protocol cookbook. “As a 45-year-old today, I feel good. My Hashimoto’s is in remission. I had things with estrogen dominance, and I had all the genes for being a bad estrogen detoxifier,” Magdalena Wszelaki said. “That means I’m much more prone to developing estrogenic problems such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and many more.” Magdalena Wszelaki could develop lumpy breasts if she didn’t take good care of herself. And because her body responds quickly, she makes it a point to take care of her adrenals. Health Coaching Magdalena Wszelaki dabbled in health coaching during the first six years in private practice. Now, she offers online educational programs, online cooking programs, and kitchen detox programs to help more people. “The thing with private coaching is that it costs money to work one on one with someone. So, we refer out people to practitioners that I truly believe in,” said Magdalena Wszelaki. Estrogen Dominance Estrogen dominance is when a woman has a deficient, normal or excessive estrogen. But there is nothing to balance the effects on her body because there is a little or no progesterone present. “It’s one of the reasons why we have thyroid problems. We have thyroid issues when we fail to converge a T4 hormone which the thyroid produces and convert it to T3,” explains Magdalena Wszelaki. “T3 is the working horse. That’s what gives you beautiful hair, healthy weight, good mental functions, and energy.” Common Symptoms Some common symptoms of estrogen dominance are PMS, irregular periods, cellulite, fibroids, miscarriages, breast cancers and thyroid cancers. Magdalena Wszelaki says the prostate problem in men is also due to estrogen dominance. “In estrogen dominance, it’s just the way you are breaking down those estrogens is not in the most beneficial way,” said Magdalena Wszelaki. “It is also due to low progesterone. And it also applies especially for women who have periods for 20 days, spotting, and unable to hold on to pregnancy for more than three months.” Magdalena Wszelaki also says that balancing hormones is also needed for women with PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome, as well as women who tend to store a lot of fat around their belly. And what happens when we have high testosterone levels. “This is a metabolic, hormonal imbalance because that happens when we have high blood sugar levels. Blood sugar control is the first step in managing that body shape or hormonal imbalance,” says Magdalena Wszelaki. Birth Control Pills Magdalena Wszelaki also cautions women against the use of birth control bills. Because basically, the glands need fuel to function. And vitamins and minerals are food for the glands. “Birth control pills mess around with your natural cycle of producing hormones. Your glands get signals,” Magdalena Wszelaki said. “A lot of women who are on birth control pills for a long time are not able to conceive. But when they get off it, glands are producing their hormones.” She adds. “So, if you are reacting badly to birth control pills, it’s an early sign of estrogen dominance. Or you are just not breaking down estrogen and progesterone because they are both synthetic.” Ways of Balancing Hormones According to Magdalena Wszelaki, hormones are connected with each other. And diet plays a significant role in balancing hormones. Clean up your digestion first. Because apparently, we usually don’t even need to use bioidentical hormones. “When you have high-stress levels, cortisol robs you of progesterone. It can result in anxiety and poor sleep. So, have herbs often, supplements sometimes, and bioidentical hormones only when needed,” Magdalena Wszelaki advises. Furthermore, she also reveals that you can manage hot flashes and night sweats via blood sugar control. Magdalena Wszelaki also says to be wary of face creams because most products contain toxic chemicals that can havoc thyroid and cause infertility. Recommended Foods There are a lot of food choices that help in balancing hormones. Magdalena Wszelaki says that one way is changing your breakfast and be conscious with gluten and dairy. Some of the food Magdalena Wszelaki recommends are pomegranate, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. She has a wonderful article about seed rotation on her website, explaining how and why you should switch eating different types of seeds. So, I highly recommend to check it out on her website. “Other things like cabbage, cilantro, parsley, cinnamon, and bone broth are good. But some people cannot eat raw cabbage. So lightly steam it, and you still get a lot of benefits,” advises Magdalena Wszelaki. “A lot of probiotic-rich foods can cause people with IBS a lot of bloating. It is also beneficial to eat food that is in season.” I particularly like cabbage which heals the gut and bone broth. A veggie dip tastes delicious with purple cabbage cut into squares to substitute crackers. For bone broth, select only premium ingredients to get the maximum health benefits and whip up a large batch which you can chill and reheat through the week. Farmer’s Wife Breakfast Since Magdalena Wszelaki mentioned earlier that changing your breakfast can help balance hormones, she high recommends her Farmer’s Wife Breakfast, which is packed with protein, fiber, and fat. You take fresh leafy greens, steam or eat them raw. Sprinkle the greens with olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and some protein on top like a lamb patty, healthy burger patty or any piece of meat. Top off the breakfast with something fermented like sauerkraut, avocados for good fats and pomegranate seeds for a touch of color. “Have a balanced diet without just eating one food excessively. A lot of times women don’t have just one hormonal imbalance. So set the foundation right,” said Magdalena Wszelaki. She adds, “There are early signs that we are struggling with our hormones and health. Listen to those signs. Clear out your digestion, balance blood sugar, avoid caffeine and sugar.” Additional Resources To know more recipes that promote balancing hormones, check out Magdalena Wszelaki’s protocol cookbook, Cooking for Hormone Balance which is available on her website. Estrogen dominance and why it's one of the easiest hormone imbalances to undo as well as its role in various cancers such as breast and thyroid. The steps people can do from a nutrition standpoint to help both heal the gut and end their hormone imbalance. Why supplements or medicine can only cover up the symptoms and aren't the same as changing your nutrition. The purpose of doing an elimination diet as a first step to eliminate probably inflammatory foods. Examples of excellent foods that can help heal and aid your gut's health. Her own story of hormone imbalance and how slowing down and paying attention to what she was eating led her on this journey. The choice she made to move from China to the USA to help improve her health. How she revamped her diet, skincare, community, and lifestyle to heal herself. What she does to eat healthy while on-the-go and traveling. Her thoughts on intermittent fasting for people with a hormone imbalance. The benefits of eating dinner early and not right before bedtime. Why the real healing begins when we address emotional hurt. Her #MeCare self-care awareness campaign and her own practice. Power Quotes From The Show "Inflammation is a natural blocker. When you're inflamed, your hormones can't help you be healthy. If you're trying to fix it by taking supplements while still eating inflammatory foods, then you're just adding fuel to the fire."- @HormonesBalance http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "All the major, mainstream brands for skincare or cleaning products are what you want to avoid. You don't want to touch any of that because they're just loaded with chemicals that can contribute to the increase of estrogen. What we eat is equally as important and all of the pesticides and fertilizers that we are eating in non-organic food can also cause a hormone imbalance. Not only that but birth control pills and stress can also affect our hormone levels. When we are stressed, we produce cortisol which steals progesterone in women. Progesterone is so necessary because it's there to offset estrogen's work." - Magdalena Wszelaki "Surround yourself with simple, yummy recipes that you can pull off in 20 minutes. Batch cooking is another great idea; just go spend a couple of hours on a Sunday cooking up a storm and then you'll be set until Wednesday or Thursday." - Magdalena Wszelaki "So many women focus on being grounded and want to avoid change. One of my clients was really having a hard time of letting go of her fruit and oatmeal but I asked her to just try it for three days. After that experience, she became the biggest advocate of healthy eating. She realized that in order to change her nights, she had to simply change her breakfast. That helped her get off sleeping pills just from doing nothing else but changing her breakfast." - Magdalena Wszelaki Links From Today's Show Magdalena Wszelaki Twitter LinkedIn Hormones Balance Facebook Instagram YouTube Pinterest Cooking for Hormone Balance by Magdalena Wszelaki Hormones Balance Recipes Hormones Balance Articles Hormone Balance Nutritionals Hormones Balance Quiz How estrogen dominance can impact our thyroid health Hormonal Imbalances Contributing to Hair Loss and Sagging Skin How to Get Better Sleep to Balance Hormones Naturally Dr. Isabella Wentz 23andme WFR 103 Rob Wolff WFR 084 Dr. David Perlmutter About Magdalena Wszelaki Cooking for hormone balance. As women, we have heard enough about awareness. We are aware, it’s time to take action. But nobody talks about prevention, nobody talks about the natural solutions” (17:00) “We are here to empower people. And I find that women who truly believe that things can happen and they don’t fall into the mentality of victimhood can absolutely reverse estrogen dominance” (21:44) “This is 7 years of my work and research put onto one page so that you don’t have to do the work. Because it worked for me and it worked for thousands of other women” (36:22) Resources Mentioned: Magdalena’s Free Gift To Us: How To Use Seed Rotation To Rebalance Your Hormones Hormones & Balance Website Cooking for Hormone Balance Book The Seed Rotation Guide Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Please review us on iTunes. Really enjoyed this podcast with Magdalena Wszelaki, the founder of Hormones Balance. Magdalena talked about the significant health crisis she went through as a result of a highly stressful career in advertising. A high profile and demanding lifestyle, stressful in every way! Mentally stressful, never in the same time zone, lack of sleep, hotel, and fast food on the run. This eventually ended in complete adrenal fatigue, autoimmune conditions, estrogen dominance, and even depression. But she was able to heal herself and go into complete remission from her health issues through truly using "food as medicine". She adopted a number of key nutrition principles as well as her signature method of cooking for hormone balance. In the interview she discusses: Anchoring and her three-legged stool analogy about healing the gut and liver, and stabilizing sugar levels The importance of an elimination diet (she lives gluten, dairy, and soy-free) How eating the right foods is key to cooking for hormone balance Her "day in the life of cooking for hormone balance"... This starts with warm water with a squeeze of lemon and apple cider vinegar, and includes a PFF breakfast (Protein, Fat, and Fiber) Her weight loss secret! Quick and easy five-minute lunch and dinner selections I loved the discussion, which included her back story, coming from a communist country and living without the luxuries of life. Her family had to improvise, and she learned to improvise, too. Along with some of those stories she also shares with us the "roots" of her health problems, going back to her birth and early childhood. I encourage you to watch or listen in...I think you'll enjoy it! Oh...and after watching the video don't forget...Magdalena has a special gift for you... a free cooking workshop where you will learn much more about healing foods and preparing easy, nutritious and hormone balancing meals! About Magdalena Wszelaki Magdalena Wszelaki is the founder of Hormones Balance, a nutrition coaching practice. I want to share a fabulous discussion that I had recently with Dr. Michael Ruscio about women's hormones and how gut bacteria can have such a tremendous effect on them! He is a functional medicine practitioner with an emphasis in gut health. He also specializes in autoimmune, thyroid, and digestive disorders. He is a wealth of knowledge and provided many great insights. Listen to our discussion on “The Hormone to Gut Connection” Key points from our interview include: Pylori - dangerous or protective? Pylori and Hashimoto's thyroid autoimmunity connection How Hashimoto's may be improved with H. Pylori treatment Hormonal changes that affect the GI tract, and solutions such as the use of chasteberry for PMS Melatonin disruption effects on Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Did you know melatonin, the hormone of sleep regulation, is anti-inflammatory and an anti-oxidant, too? How Vitamin D improves IBS, and is the "great mediator"! Stress and a causal decrease in protective GI bacteria Benefits of exercise on gut bacteria - who knew? (Just like Goldilocks, too little and too much are not good). Meet Dr. Michael Ruscio Dr. Ruscio gives smart, busy people suffering from symptoms like daily bloating, constant fatigue, and unexplained weight gain, simple steps to start living a health, enjoyable life again, no matter how long they've been suffering. He is a Functional Medicine Practitioner, a Doctor of Chiropractic, and is lead researcher in a current study on IBS.
