Disney After Hours is returning to Walt Disney World in 2024, but is it paid event worth the cost? We share exactly how it works and what you get (and don't get) to help you decide if it's worth the money for you and your family.Disney After Hours Events Return to Walt Disney World Resort in January 2024But Whether They're Worth it for You Depends on One ThingDisney After Hours events coming back to Walt Disney World kicking off on January 10 at Disney's Hollywood Studios, January 11 at Magic Kingdom and February 2 at EPCOT.These separately ticketed events give you three extra park hours to ride rides, visit attractions, meet characters and snack on a few unlimited free treats. Treats usually include popcorn, Mickey ice cream bars or sandwiches and select drinks (non alcoholic) as specific locations in the park.Disney positions Disney After Hours as offering shorter wait times to select attractions and character experiences, but it's important to know that that's not always the case. There may be more dates added in 2024, but currently announced dates and prices are as follows.Disney After Hours Event Dates, Times and Ticket Prices(Ticket Prices in Brackets are Annual Passholder and DVC discount price)Disney's Hollywood Studios: 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.  Wednesday, January 10 - $155 ($125)Wednesday, January 24 - $165 ($135)Wednesday, February 21 - $175 ($145)Monday, February 26 - $175 ($145)Wednesday, March 13 - $165 ($135)Wednesday, March 20 - $175 ($145)Wednesday, March 27 - $175 ($145)Wednesday, April 3 - $175 ($145)Wednesday, April 10 - $175 ($145)Magic Kingdom Park: 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.Thursday, January 11 - $155 ($125)Monday, January 15 - $165 ($135)Monday, January 22 - $165 ($135)Thursday, February 1 - $165 ($135)Monday, February 5 - $165 ($135)Monday, February 12 - $175 ($145)Thursday, February 29 - $175 ($145)Monday, March 4 - $175 ($145)Monday, March 18 - $175 ($145)Monday, April 8 - $175 ($145)EPCOT: 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Friday, February 2 - $149 ($119)Thursday, February 8 - $149 ($119)Thursday, February 15 - $159 ($129)Thursday, March 7 - $159 ($129)Thursday, March 28 - $159 ($129)Thursday, April 4 - $159 ($129)If you have a ticket for an event, you can enter that park starting at 7:00 p.m. Of special note for the Magic Kingdom: a standby line is planned for TRON during Disney After Hours, meaning there will be no virtual queue (which could have been a time saver, as it was during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party). Keep reading for new storyline details from our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering and a new piece of artwork coming to the treehouse!Within the updated tree, you'll find the mother's music den, the sons' nature room and the daughter's astronomer's loft. Located on the ground are the kitchen and dining room, plus the father's art studio featrues hand-drawn sketches and paintings of each room.As the story goes, the family created an oasis among the trees inspired by nature and using objects found around them. Next to the stairwell is a waterwheel, powered by a nearby brook. The family uses this and a pulley system to get the water they need into their treehouse. This walk-through attraction should be worth exploring when you visit the park and is likely one of the more overlooked attractions generally.--Disney Skyliner is Closing for Maintenance in January 2024January 16-21  The line between Disney's Pop Century Resort, Disney's Art of Animation and Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort will be closed. For over five decades, it has been so much more than a vacation destination, but has become a living storybook wherein we find ourselves at the center of the tale.  Inside every chapter is an epic journey portending to unfold. On every page we find an invitation embossed with each of our names, inviting us to chart a course for adventure. A magic carpet ride, perhaps, or aboard a pirate ship bound for Neverland…oh, the wondrous places we'll go!  All around us, we encounter intricacy and intentionality in every moment - a testament to the innovative minds who have brought these stories to life, spurred on by their sovereign ethos that it's kind of fun to create the impossible. Here, the philosophy is this: that the only thing standing in the way of your dreams becoming your reality is your own imagination.  Today, we invite you to set that imagination free and come along with us as we carry our dreams to new heights. Climb aboard your very own chariot in the clouds and be Here With the Magic - we're taking to the skies and setting sail aboard the Disney Skyliner! Rising high above the waterways and pavilions of EPCOT's World Showcase, our journey begins with a peek into the romantic courtyards and elegant gardens of beautiful France. Soaring over the world-renowned Gusteau's, we can almost smell the fluffy, sugar-dusted crêpes and nutty fromage wafting from Chef Remy's kitchen.  Up, up, and away we go, waving a wistful “Au Revoir” to charming Paris. After a quick little jaunt above the pastel whimsy and swinging ragtime of the Boardwalk, we find ourselves at once in the heart of Walt Disney World. From way up Here, we can spot the temples and clocktowers of World Showcase gliding past alongside our gondola, a curious collection of international treasures reaching toward the heavens. The geodesic shell of Spaceship Earth glints in the bright sunlight, striking and futuristic against its more historic counterparts at EPCOT Center.  (7:05) In the distance, a majestic kingdom looms larger and larger as we approach, stunning and regal against a brilliant blue sky. Disney's Riviera Resort, a celebration of the azure coasts of Italy and the opulence of the South of France, this European seaside retreat is a feast for the senses and a joy to discover.  Lavish with luxury and an escape into our most rose-colored wanderlust daydreams, the sparkling lagoon and wrought-iron balconies that surround this place are breathtaking to behold. And although we're just passing through, our excitement for what other wonders we might encounter as we continue on our journey blooms with every second.   (8:47) Onward we sail, ascending skyward once again. This time, we're trading in the opulence of the Riviera for the laid-back vibes of the Caribbean. Nestled in a lush, tropical wilderness and bordered by silken, white-sand beaches, the quaint island hideaway of Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort burst with vibrant color and vivid life.  Here, each charming village is enrobed in shades of turquoise and aquamarine, coral and sunshine yellow. The steel drum sounds of the tropics and the easy, breezy atmosphere seem to enliven our spirit even as we drift above - a quiet moment of joy above the sweet serenity of our own Caribbean oasis.  While we could happily prolong this island interlude, our Skyliner convoy has landed in the Hub, where we are promptly whisked away once again to new, fantastic points of view. This time, we're headed along Hourglass Lake on a grand circle tour of some larger-than-life childhood memories to inspire nostalgia for all ages.  (10:31) At Disney's Pop Century Resort, the sock hops and Walkmans which brought music and laughter to each distinctive decade are preserved in a living time capsule. An escape to a simpler time, the retro feel and novelty shapes and colors make this an unforgettable place to discover. Every moment Here exudes reminiscence and fun; a chance to experience the joys of generations and find Magic in the fabric of our yesterdays.  And as we sail through time, back to yesteryear, we find our gaze wandering across the lake to Disney's Art of Animation Resort. Here, we find concept art and sketches from some of our favorite Disney stories practically springing off the page. From the Pridelands and Route 66 to a plunge Fathoms Below into the Big, Blue World of Nemo, Ariel, and all those beloved Under the Sea friends, this is a place that captivates the young and the young at heart, bringing fairytales and adventures to life in truly spectacular ways. Humming a Hakuna Matata tune all the way, we bid a fond farewell to our redolent memories and allow our escort to return us to the hustle and bustle of the Skyliner terminal, but only for a moment. Once again we careen into the clouds aboard our airborne carriage, this time heading for all the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown and the gleaming black spires of Galaxy's Edge.  (17:00) Away we go, into the blissful blue and off toward the marquees and marvels of the golden age of Hollywood.  Sound stages scattered across film lots and the ornate exterior of the incomparable Chinese Theater are visible just ahead, and the shadowy outline of the Hollywood Tower Hotel looms at the end of Sunset Boulevard, intriguing and foreboding in equal measure. Although our excursion into this bustling young movie town is a brief and round trip affair, the exhilarating energy of this place is palpable even from the sky. A glimpse into the Hollywoodland of Walt's early career, there is joy and anticipation wrapped in each and every moment.  (22:05) Still, we've got one final leg of our journey to complete, and our cortège is already gliding back into the station once again before we are revived from our Golden State reverie. Soon we find ourselves yet again greeted by the postcard panorama of the Riviera, picturesque and perfect as we left it before.  Before we know it, the tapered zenith of the Tour de Eiffel is growing larger as we descend into the International Gateway, bringing our Skyliner journey at an end at last. Where we'll go from Here, well, that's a story that is still unwritten. Whether we soar through the skies or sail along crystalline waters or let our own two feet lead the way, there is unlimited Magic for those willing to make the journey. Each step is one in the right direction where imagination is our guide and joy is our companion.  It is the journey, after all, and not the destination, which fill the pages of the most magnificent stories. From tales of travel to faraway lands to gambles down rabbit holes and into the wonderland of our cherished memories, it is that first spark of inspiration which leads us down new paths, intuition mingling with curiosity and leading us into a world of Magic that we can return to time and time again.  It is the journey that evokes the most powerful memories. Being Here, surrounded in the skies by invigorating joy, we feel emboldened to say yes to new adventures, to keep moving forward. Onward, ever onward, we know that each and every moment will be filled with wonder, with sights and sounds and stories to lift us up when we feel low, and with Magic to bring us to our happiest places whenever we summon the spirit of our imagination and take to the skies.

The Epcot International Festival of the Arts has plenty of reasons to join the artistic celebration.   So, for 2020, what are the top 20 things to do?   Let’s count them down. Start by arriving via the Disney Skyliner.  With Future World and the main entrance under considerable construction, the incredible views from the Skyliner, along with the newly refurbished International Gateway, make it a remarkably refreshing entrance to Epcot.  As you “skyline” into the gateway, be sure to check out the construction of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.  The Gusteau’s sign was recently installed, and the attraction is set to open this summer.   From International Gateway, you’ll find yourself right in the middle of the festival. As soon as you enter, be sure to get your Festival Passport, Map and most important, Times Guide.   Check the Festival Entertainment Schedule right away – wait, is that Mickey and Minnie right at the entrance?  It sure is.  Check that Times Guide, the construction has closed Character Spot, but the characters have scattered all around the park.

This podcast is provided by Ben Glass and Steve Emmert   www.BenGlassReferrals.com - www.Virginia-Appeals.com   Granted Appeal Summary   Case   VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL GATEWAY, INC. v. CITY OF PORTSMOUTH (Record Number 180810)   From    From the Circuit Court of the City of Portsmouth; J. Hawks, Judge.   Counsel   Johan Conrod, Jr. and Lauren Tallent Rogers (Kaufman & Canoles, P.C.) for appellant.   Solomon H. Ashby, Jr. (City Attorney) and Andrew R. McRoberts, Debra L. Mallory, and David C. Tait (Sands Anderson PC) for appellee.   Assignments of Error   The Circuit Court for the City of Portsmouth (the “Trial Court”) erred in dismissing Virginia International Gateway, Inc.’s (“VIG”) challenge to its real property tax assessment that was assessed by the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (“the City”) for the 2015-2016 tax year.    The Trial Court erred in disqualifying and refusing to credit the testimony of VIG’s appraisal expert. The trial court refused to credit the testimony because, even though the appraiser held a Virginia appraiser's license for 2016 when he prepared his appraisal, he was not licensed in 2017 at the time of his trial testimony.   The Trial Court erred in failing to address or give any weight to the testimony of VIG’s broker expert who opined at trial regarding the fair market value of the Ship to Shore Cranes (which the City assessed as real property).    The Trial Court erred by rejecting VIG’s evidence of the fair market value of VIG’s personal property based on the Trial Court’s conclusion that transportation costs should not be a consideration for fair market value.    Source Document: http://www.courts.state.va.us/courts/scv/appeals/180810.pdf

There is not a bus option home from Epcot to the Contemporary. At the end of the night after Illuminations the line for the monorail is nuts, and that will still require a transfer at the TTC (also nuts). To avoid that mess, you can take a bus to the Wilderness Lodge and then wait just a moment and get on one of the busses dropping off from Hollywood studios or Animal Kingdom. They are shared with the Contemporary, which is the next stop. If staying at Bay Lake Tower, the bus stop is much closer than the monorail stop, too!” You might also consider exiting Epcot via the International Gateway, taking a bus from Beach Club to Magic Kingdom, and walking to Bay Lake Tower. WDW: Jennifer's Introduction to runDisney - 007

Report the Magic

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 28, 2019 101:01

Today I’m joined by Jennifer and I have been so excited to share this with you for so many reasons. First of all, Jennifer is kind of a Disney Newbie. Although this wasn’t her very first vacation to Walt Disney World, this was the very first trip she has planned herself. She just didn’t grow up with Disney…they went as kids but only one time. If you’re also planning your first trip, you’ll be grateful for her insight. The other reason you want to keep reading, is that we are bringing you an introduction to runDisney! If you’re a runner and you’ve never tried a runDisney race, or if you’ve never ran a step, but you’re thinking “This is my year!” and you want to run through Disney World, then keep reading for all the details. Trip dates: November 1 – 5  Why she chose trip dates:  Jennifer’s ambitious goal is to run every runDisney race in one season (a twelve month period) before her next birthday. How awesome is that?? She had a wonderful time running in April (when she first started running!) A friend had invited her to run Star Wars Rival Run Weekend and it was so much fun that she was hooked. In a big way. Jennifer has booked every race weekend through the Star Wars Rival Run Challenge in April 2019. Resort Review: Coronado Springs and the Dolphin Disney’s Coronado    MagicBand  Amazon Prime Now   Dolphin  Marriott Rewards    Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend  Port Orleans, Riverside  Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend    Beach Club   International Gateway  Trip Planning Details Travel Party: Jennifer traveled to Orlando from Dallas and her sister met her from Buffalo.  Disney Dining Plan: No  Park Tickets: Annual Pass  Memory Maker   PhotoPass   Tables in Wonderland – Yes.  Read more about Tables in Wonderland here.  Lessons Jennifer learned while planning her first Walt Disney World vacation Trip Planning Tools: The Internet.  Phil Gramlich You can read Phil’s Insider Tips for Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disney Cruise Line here. You can learn more about dining in Walt Disney World with a food allergy here. Last minute reservations at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom Everything you need to know about runDisney Becoming a runner It was an absolute blast. It was super fun even getting up at 2:00 in the morning to go run. runDisney: The details Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend   Uber   Lyft  ESPN Wide World of Sports  The Itinerary Arrival Day: ESPN Wide World of Sports and Epcot Food & Wine Festival  I wish I was hungrier. I would have pre-gamed better, ate way less during the day, and also probably worn stretchier pants. Day Two: 5K and Magic Kingdom I had only ridden it with my sister, the one that was with me. We’re two years and two days apart in age, so we pretty much did everything together as kids. So I didn’t want to do Haunted Mansion without her. (I didn’t do it in April when I was there.) We jumped into the Haunted Mansion FastPass+ line, and we just rolled right in and it was awesome. It was just as amazing as it was a lot of years ago. The rides aren’t any smaller. They’re not any lamer, you know, they’re not like, ‘oh, this was fun as a kid, but it’s dumb as an adult’ it’s exactly as awesome as it was when I was eight or ten or however old I was. Day Three: 10K and Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot Garden Grill There were kids around us. I’m pretty sure they were not as excited as we were because we just looked at each other and started shrieking! Day Four: Half Marathon and Animal Kingdom Two Course Challenge    Disney Springs  Favorite Vacation Memories Jennifer’s sister had a really hard time defining her favorite memory of this trip. However she did mention riding the Haunted Mansion together…they actually have two older siblings and the whole family drove down from western New York, six people in a wood paneled station wagon and it was as awesome as any trip you could imagine. Being able to relive those vivd memories in the Magic Kingdom was really special. Jennifer’s favorite memory is also riding the Haunted Mansion. Riding it with the same person that she always rode with as a kid, because they were always paired together in a family of six. Their two older siblings rode together or one rode with their Mom and the other with their Dad, but Jennifer and her Sister always rode together. So getting back in the Dune buggy together was just so awesome. Her other favorite memory was at Animal Kingdom. As you look at the Tree of Life, there’s a kiosk literally right on the left (as you’re walking down towards the tree), where they stopped to get Mickey ice cream bars because that was their favorite snack is a kid. The two sisters just stood there, staring at this tree, just talking with each other, eating Mickey bars. Finally Jennifer has a photo of her standing in front of the Tree of Life with all of her medals from the weekend. What a perfect souvenir!

For a minivan, Missy's pro tip is to rent with Alamo and make a reservation for a full-size car and then also a minivan reservation. If you become an Alamo Insider, you can the skip the line! So head straight to the garage and in the Orlando Airport many times there are minivans in the full-size aisle. When Missy arrived, there were two or three minivans sitting in the full-size aisle. You can then do a quick online check-in drive off to Walt Disney World, saving hundreds on your reservation that way. Day Five: Bon Voyage Breakfast, Epcot (and Blizzard Beach), and Morimoto Asia Bon Voyage breakfast Uber   Lyft  Royale Breakfast Missy’s Pro Tip: If you are in the mood for waffles, there are waffles on the kid's menu. If you ask for an adult portion, they will most likely oblige and bring scrambled eggs and perhaps sausage as an adult platter. No guarantees, but worth asking if your heart is set on waffles. The first time that she saw the Frozen Sing-Along Celebration. It was just Me and her, everyone else was on either Star Tours or Rock’n’Roller coaster and so I took her to see the Frozen Sing-Along for the first time. We sat in the second row and the curtain comes up and she recognizes the music and then Anna comes on stage and she just starts yelling, ‘Anna’ and reaching out for her. And it was just, it was incredible. I was worried that maybe she would get antsy because it's a 30 minute show. She was mesmerized the whole time. It was a great experience. And then her reaction to Vampirina that we talked about earlier when we did the Hollywood & Vine breakfast was amazing. Oh, and at Royal Sommerhus at Epcot for her to meet Anna and Elsa. We were the first in our group to go into the room. And so there was one family meeting with Elsa and Anna was waiting on the other side and Emma saw that they were in the room and her eyes got wide and she's just yelling, ‘Anna, Elsa’ and Anna was waving at her and she was waving back. We learned we could just put her down next to the character and they would sit on the floor and the interaction that she would have with just her and them was just incredible. And just watching that, I started crying. My sister made fun of me because I just had tears streaming down my face because it was so lovely to see.” Learn more about Missy www.magicofmainstreet.com  Disney Planning for Disney Friends Missy'sFacebook page

All of the news for the week of November 30, 2018. Disney After Hours at Magic Kingdom has been my favorite extra event for awhile now, so the options to be able to do a similar thing at Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios starting next week seem super exciting to me. (In fact, people with short trips who want to do as much as possible might even consider skipping regular park tickets and instead choose to attend After Hours to pack in as much as possible.) Here's our overviews of the After Hours event for each of the parks that offer it: Animal Kingdom After Hours Hollywood Studios After Hours Magic Kingdom After Hours Reservations are now open for Gran Destino, the new tower at Coronado Springs that will open up in July 9, 2019. Rooms start at $261/night. We learned this week about the 2 new restaurants that will be at Gran Destino. Three Bridges Bar and Grill will be located on an island on the Lago Dorado lake at Gran Destino. And then a rooftop Table Service restaurant called Toledo will offer great views of Disney World. Reservations for dining aren't available yet, but we'll keep you posted when they are. Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy opens in spring at Hollywood Studios. You can preview it now in the DisneyNOW app (go to the 19 minute mark to see the preview), or watch the Disney Channel on December 1 at 8 p.m. eastern to see it there. Due to work on the upcoming Tron coaster, the Magic Kingdom railroad is expected to be closed December 3, 2018 - January 5, 2019. And due to Disney Skyliner work, the Friendship boats are not taking guests to the International Gateway at Epcot through early December. Guests can still take the boats to Epcot-area resorts and Hollywood Studios, and they can choose to walk to the International Gateway.

Welcome to the WDW Radio Show - your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host Lou Mongello, and I want to thank you for tuning in again this week. This is show #61 for the week of April 6, 2008. In this week’s Walt Disney World News, there is some important information coming from the Walt Disney World Resort about what the future holds for Guests looking to stay on property, as well as more from the resorts and the Magic Kingdom. The Walt Disney World Rumor Mill was quiet this week, but stay tuned next week for more rumors from the parks. I want to also bring you what I can best describe as the Ultimate Guide to the Disney Vacation Club (DVC). I am pleased to be joined by Michael Collier, Quality Assurance Manager for Disney’s Vacation Club, who spends some time with me not only answering some frequently asked questions, but explains the process, cost, point system and benefits. He will also help clear up some of the misconceptions and concerns, explains what happens once you step inside one of the kiosks located around property, and so much more. It is an in-depth look at all aspects of the DVC, and why the Disney Vacation Club might be right for you and your family. In my continuing tribute to Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s 10th Anniversary, which is being celebrated in the parks this coming Earth Day, April 22, I want to once again welcome one of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Cast Members that works backstage to help make the magic happen for us onstage. He is a Zoological Manager at Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Animal Nutrition Center, who gives us a unique look at just how the thousands of animals at the parks and resorts get their share of the exceptional dining options at Walt Disney World. I’ll answer more of your emails about half-day tickets, the International Gateway, Darkwing Duck in Walt Disney World and more. I’ll also play some of your voicemails at the end of the show, so sit back, relax and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show. You can email the show at lou@wdwradio.com or call the voicemail at 206-202-4WDW (4939). Visit the web site at wdwradio.com. Talk about the show by visiting and posting in the WDW Radio Show message forums at DisneyWorldTrivia.com. Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!
