On today's episode of The Salisha Show, host Salisha Thomas sits down with two of the producers of the new off-Broadway show Trevor the Musical: Josie Bray and John Ambrosino. John and Josie recall transitioning from artists to producers and how they became a business partnership in addition to lifelong friends. They discuss what goes into producing a show with New York dreams, how long it can take, how to cultivate a safe environment for the actors, and how doing work that is meaningful to them makes the whole process worth it.  Josie Bray is a choregrapher, director, producer, and teacher with a heart of gold. Josie is a two-time winner of the IRNE award for Best Choreography of a Musical. She was the Co-Artistic Director of the Animus Ensemble, a Boston-based theatre company, for five years and also served as the Executive Director of Green Street Studios, Center for Movement and Dance. In New York City, Josie choreographed several off-Broadway plays. Josie has worked on several national tours and on the 2009 Broadway Revival of Ragtime. Josie has also directed at the Lyric Stage Company of Boston and teaches Movement for Actors at Emerson College. She is currently a senior Partner at U Rock Theatricals in New York City, where she most recently produced the new musical off-Broadway: Trevor the Musical.  John Ambrosino is both an actor and a producer. He has toured nationally with Les Miserables as well as performed regionally in Company (IRNE Award Nomination for the role of Robert), Into the Woods, On the Town, Avenue Q (Elliot Norton Award Nominee for his role as Princton/Rod), and Rent. Jeff Croiter has had quite a career thus far. While best known for his Broadway lighting designs, his work on theater, dance, and opera has been seen from coast to coast in the United States as well as internationally and on broadcast television. He has been recognized with Tony, Hewes Design, and Suzi Bass awards and nominations for Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Lortel, Ovation, Irne, and Audelco awards. This past Spring, Jeff joined us for an in-depth discussion of some of his best-known projects.In this episode, we spoke at length about his work on the beloved Peter And The Starcatcher, incuding the process he used, how the relationships he'd previously formed helped him, and how the show came together. Jeff outlined how he delivered a stunning design for Starz's Flesh and Bone miniseries, where he lit a dance performance to be captured on film as well as handling lighting for scenes around the theater. Presently she is based in Arkansas working remotely with Boston Ballet as well as Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory.  As a vocalist she has appeared with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra Chorus and toured Europe with the CSO.  As a pianist she has extensive experience as a ballet accompanist which has offered her experience with Bolshoi Ballet, Burklyn Ballet, Jose Mateo, South Shore Ballet, BostonConservatory, Dean College Dance Department, National Ballet Academy of Denver and Colorado Ballet, to name a few. Eric Bornstein discusses the art of the mask. Award-winning mask maker Eric Bornstein of Behind The Mask Studio/Theatre specializes in custom made masks, corporate event planning, arts education, and mask theater programming. Eric has studied mask making with masters Agung Suardana in Bali, and Donato Sartori in Italy. He received his MLA in Fine Arts along with the Thomas Small prize from Harvard University. Behind The Mask was recently awarded the commission of 120 award statuettes for the prestigious Reggae Gold award event in Kingston, Jamaica. Previously, Eric was awarded a Fulbright award to revive and reinvigorate the art of giant puppet effigies in Jamaica 2017. He won the 2016 IRNE award for Best Puppetry Design for Company One’s Shockheaded Peter, and was part of the Liars & Believers team that won the Excellence in Production Design award at the New York Musical Theatre Festival 2012 for his masks in Le Cabaret Grimm. Ben Stanton is a lighting designer for theater, concerts, dance, installations, and events. He is a three-time Tony Award nominee as well as an Obie, Lortel, IRNE, and Ovation Award winner. Recent Broadway credits include The Rose Tattoo, Derren Brown: Secret, Regina Spektor: Live On Broadway, Ayad Akhtar’s Junk, the revival of Six Degrees of Separation, Deaf West Theater’s revival of Spring Awakening, Fully Committed, and Fun Home. He has designed concerts and tours for recording artists including Beirut, Melanie Martinez, Regina Spektor, Sufjan Stevens, and St. Vincent. He serves as the resident lighting director for Skylight Modern, and he’s the founder and principal designer at Stanton Collaborative, a group that specializes in bringing a theatrical aesthetic to corporate events, concerts, and installations.  Ben took time out from his crazy schedule of lighting like 147 shows and being a new Dad to help me understand how lighting affects a show and . . . Movement Research Studies Project, "Dancer as Agent" - November 10, 2014 Conceived by Cecilia Roos in partnership with Iréne HultmanPanelists included Hilary Clark and Juliette Mapp Within the field of dance, the creation process often demands that dancers develop methodologies, movement vocabularies and conceptual frames. Previously seen as the exclusive domain of choreographers, dramaturges and directors, these procedural boundaries are now shifting and eroding creative hierarchies in live performance. This has produced new, mostly undocumented relationships to working processes and bodies of knowledge. The Dancer as Agent began in 2013 as a conference held at University of Dance and Circus (DOCH) in Sweden. This conversation focused on some of the topics that emerged from that conference.

In this "What Is?" edition of "Live from the Library" Julie Hennrikus interviews Artistic Director Sherrie Johnson and Associate Curator Georgia Lyman of Outside the Box. The conversation started with a discussion about "curation" of festivals, and moved on to a bigger conversation about this summer's festival. Bios: Sherrie Johnson: Artistic Director Sherrie Johnson has developed an international reputation as an innovative and accomplished curator, artistic director and producer of critically acclaimed and award-winning, theatre, dance, film and performing arts festivals.  Sherrie comes to Outside The Box, after six years with the renowned PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, in Vancouver, Canada. She was Senior Curator at PuSh for the last four years. She has more than 20 years of experience presenting, commissioning, producing, co-producing, and touring live performance, including working as a producer for Thomas + Guinevere’s “The Encampment,” a public art installation that had its premiere in June 2012 at Luminato’s Festival of Arts + Creativity. Sherrie previously was the Pitch Producer for the Under the Radar Symposium as part of New York’s Under the Radar showcase and was Pitch Curator of Caravan, New English Performance that is presented as part of the Brighton Festival in England. Sherrie was the Touring Liaison and Curator of the Magnetic North Theatre Festival in Canada in 2006 and 2007. She was the Producer of Canadian content for the International Network for Contemporary Arts (IETM) in 2007, a membership organization headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. She was the Canadian Producer of Celebrate Scotland; the Co-Founder, Producer, Co-Artistic Director of the Six Stages Festival in Toronto, Canada; and a Production Assistant for the du Maurier Arts World Stage Festival. She received a bachelor of science degree in criminology and theatre and a master of science degree in communications from Indiana State University and studied at the University of Toronto’s Rotman Executive Program. Sherrie was a recipient of the John Hobday Award for outstanding achievement in the field of arts management from the Canada Council for the Arts in the first year the award was given. A Chicago native, Sherrie and her family reside in downtown Boston. Georgia Lyman: Associate Curator Georgia Lyman is an actor and producer working in Boston.  She is currently the Associate Curator for the Outside the Box festival.  Georgia was a founding member of Orfeo Group, which won the Eliot Norton award for Outstanding Fringe Production three times in their 5 year career. She has performed with the Lyric Stage, New Rep, Speakeasy, Stoneham, Publick Theater, Actors Shakespeare Project and Orfeo Group. She was nearly an internet sensation twice with the web series Snarkipedia and Serial Huntress. TV and film credits include The Makeover, Brotherhood, Law & Order:SVU, The Town, and the upcoming films RIPD and Larry David's Clear History.  She is currently nominated for an IRNE award for her solo performance in Chesapeake.

Jeremy Johnson interviews Karen Perlow in this "One on One" interview. Karen is a freelance lighting designer in the greater Boston area.  In addition to working at most of the local midsized theaters, she teaching lighting design at MIT.  She is a 3-time recipient of the IRNE award for best lighting design.  As a former member of the StageSource board, she was influential in organizing the first REPA (StageSource) Job Fair.
