A new illustrated book hopes to redefine 'What Jewish Looks Like'

Growing up, Liz Kleinrock never felt like she fit into her Jewish community in Washington, D.C. Born in Korea and adopted into an Ashkenazi family, she constantly felt pressure to justify her Judaism—whether at Hebrew school, summer camp or synagogue. Years later, after becoming a professional antibias and antiracist educator, she met author Caroline Kusin Pritchard, and the two clicked. One day, they got an idea: to create an educational, illustrated, family-friendly book that redefines the face of Judaism—literally. The result is What Jewish Looks Like, released September 2024, which profiles unconventional Jewish icons. The collection includes British-Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor, historic Ethiopian community leader Uri Ben Baruch and American trans activist Jazz Jennings—about as varied a scope as one could imagine that crosses skin colour, religious affiliation and cultural identity. The book's launch has been met warmly in Jewish spaces. And yet, as Kleinrock and Kusin Pritchard tell Rivka Campbell on The CJN's podcast about Jews of colour, even on their book tour, they face microaggressions in every city. For them, it's a constant reminder of why this kind of content is needed—not just to educate younger Jewish generations, but older ones as well. This Day in Legal History: Gandhi's First Act of Civil DisobedienceOn June 7, 1893, Mohandas Gandhi committed his first act of civil disobedience in South Africa, an event that would shape his future activism and the global struggle for civil rights. Gandhi, holding a first-class ticket, was ordered to move to the third-class section of a train because he was Indian. Refusing to comply, he was forcibly removed from the train at Pietermaritzburg. This incident ignited Gandhi's resolve to combat racial discrimination and injustice. In response to this humiliation, Gandhi began organizing the Indian community in South Africa, leading to the founding of the Natal Indian Congress in 1894. This organization aimed to unite Indians and fight against discriminatory laws. Gandhi's efforts in South Africa laid the groundwork for his philosophy of nonviolent resistance, known as Satyagraha. After gaining experience and recognition in South Africa, Gandhi returned to India in 1915. There, he became a pivotal leader in the struggle for independence from British colonial rule. Through nonviolent protests, boycotts, and civil disobedience, Gandhi mobilized millions of Indians and brought international attention to their cause.Gandhi's first act of defiance on that South African train was more than just a personal stand; it was the beginning of a movement that would inspire civil rights leaders worldwide, including Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. This day marks a significant moment in legal history, highlighting the power of peaceful protest and the enduring fight for equality and justice. The US Supreme Court's recent decision has significant implications for estate planning, particularly for family businesses. The ruling mandated that the value of Crown C Supply Co., a family-owned business, must include the life insurance payout received after co-owner Michael Connelly's death. This decision was a setback for Thomas Connelly, the estate executor, who argued against including the payout in the company's valuation. The unanimous ruling, authored by Justice Clarence Thomas, emphasizes that businesses using life insurance proceeds for shareholder buyouts must account for these proceeds in their valuations or explore alternative strategies. These alternatives include cross-purchase agreements, where individual shareholders, rather than the company, hold the life insurance policies, or placing the policies in a trust. This ruling could particularly affect small business owners who might not afford extensive legal advice, potentially pushing their estates above the exemption threshold and incurring higher taxes. Estate planners now need to reassess buy-sell agreements and consider more tax-efficient arrangements. Despite the clarified tax risks, not all businesses will shift from the contested buy-sell agreements, as factors beyond tax implications often influence business decisions. The case, Connelly v. United States, highlights the need for thorough estate planning to navigate tax liabilities effectively.High Court Estate Tax Ruling Forces Succession Planning RevampsNetflix shareholders voted down a proposal to increase transparency on the company's use of artificial intelligence (AI) at its annual meeting. The proposal, presented by the AFL-CIO Equity Index Funds, requested a report detailing Netflix's AI policies and ethical guidelines. Concerns highlighted included potential hiring discrimination, mass layoffs, and facility closures, arguing that ethical AI guidelines could prevent labor issues and lawsuits. This follows last summer's Hollywood strikes, partly driven by fears that AI could undermine writers and actors. Similar AI-related proposals have been presented to other tech companies like Meta and Microsoft but have not passed. In February, a proposal at Apple received notable support, with 37.5% of investors in favor.Netflix, in its proxy statement, described AI as a tool to enhance creativity and efficiency, not to replace human work. The company also mentioned existing collective bargaining agreements with unions that address AI use. Netflix argued that the requested report could reveal sensitive information and harm its competitive position.Netflix Investors Reject Bid on AI Discrimination, Layoff RisksU.S. Circuit Judge Ryan Nelson of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recused himself from a case involving Palestinian rights activists who seek to block the Biden administration's military support of Israel. The recusal follows his participation in a trip to Israel with other judges after the October 7 Hamas attack. Although Nelson believed his impartiality wouldn't reasonably be questioned, he stepped down out of caution. The plaintiffs argued that the trip, organized by the World Jewish Congress, aimed to influence judicial perspectives on Israeli actions, central to the case. Judge Consuelo Callahan replaced Nelson for the hearing. The case, Defense for Children International-Palestine v. Biden, challenges U.S. support for Israel's military actions in Gaza.US judge recuses himself from Gaza case after trip to Israel | ReutersA Texas public library must return eight controversial books, covering LGBTQ+, sex education, and racism topics, to circulation after a divided ruling by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The court found that removing books based on content objections violated the First Amendment rights of library patrons. The ruling largely upheld a 2023 preliminary injunction by U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman. In dissent, Judge Stuart Kyle Duncan criticized the decision, arguing that it improperly involved federal judges in library decisions. The case, initiated by Leila Green Little and others, challenges the Llano County Library System's removal of books like "Caste" by Isabel Wilkerson and "Being Jazz" by Jazz Jennings. The ruling reflects a broader trend of legal challenges against library book bans, with similar cases arising in Iowa, Texas, and Arkansas. The American Library Association and PEN America report a significant increase in book challenges and bans, particularly those involving marginalized communities.Texas Library Must Reshelve Controversial Books, 5th Cir. SaysThis week's closing theme is by Paul Dukas, who passed away on this day in 1935.Paul Dukas was a notable French composer, critic, and teacher who left an indelible mark on the world of classical music. Born in Paris in 1865, Dukas was a contemporary of Debussy and shared the same innovative spirit that defined French music at the turn of the century. Although his output was relatively small, his meticulous approach ensured that each work he published was of the highest quality. Dukas is best remembered for his orchestral masterpiece, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (L'Apprenti sorcier), composed in 1897.Inspired by Goethe's poem of the same name, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" vividly depicts the tale of a young apprentice who, in his master's absence, uses magic to animate a broom to do his chores, only to lose control of the spell. Dukas's composition brilliantly captures the whimsical and chaotic nature of the story through its lively orchestration and dynamic contrasts. The piece's enchanting melodies and dramatic crescendos have made it a favorite in concert halls and have cemented its place in popular culture, especially after being featured in Disney's "Fantasia" in 1940.Dukas's ability to blend narrative with musical innovation showcases his exceptional talent and ensures that "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" remains a timeless piece, beloved by audiences of all ages. As we reflect on Dukas's contributions, we celebrate his genius and the magical world he brought to life through music.Without further ado, Paul Dukas' “L'Apprenti sorcier,”or “The Sorcerer's Apprentice,” enjoy.   Facial feminization surgery (FFS) is not covered by some health plans. If your health insurance company says they won't pay for a surgery you need, you can appeal that decision. Listener Robin asks for tips from Faith, who succeeded with her appeal on her third try.   Our other FFS episodes: Faith F's her F Part I Faith F's her F Part II Faith vs Her Health Insurance   "Insemination style genitalia" and "gestational genitalia" are terms that Faith thought up in her weird brain and we do NOT recommend googling them. Kath thinks AFAB and AMAB are adequate.   Faith learned about appealing decisions from your health insurance at the Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference. There was no 2023 conference but there will be one in 2024 and we will see you there!    Legal aid societies that can help you with your appeal, for each state.   Faith said people with gestational genitalia (aka AFAB people or people who were assigned female at birth) "retain neoteny". Neoteny refers to child-like facial characteristics. These “neotenous” characteristics include a large forehead with lower set eyes, nose and mouth; a smaller, shorter, more recessive chin; fuller lips; larger eyes; a smaller nose; higher, thinner eyebrows; and a rounder, less angular face. This can be (but is not always) associated with attractiveness, to some people.   Our old video of conventionally attractive people whose facial features are androgynous or even skew toward those of the opposite gender included the jerk Ezra Miller. Join us in cancelling that creep.    Faith's surgeon, Bella Avanessian, MD at Mt Sinai, also has Jazz Jennings as a patient. See Dr. A. in this video as a baby doctor, just starting her surgical fellowship.   Legal Eagle YouTuber has an episode about arbitrators and also "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".   Former New York State governor Mario Cuomo groped staff members and helped the LGBTQ+ community a lot. Those are two uncomfortable truths we have to live with.

#0102 How Transitioning Goes Wrong Further. Every. Day. Again, to remind everyone, we are coming to this from the spirit of love. One does not love someone who is causing self harm if one says nothing when the harm is being committed. So, why is the transition of teens becoming more common: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7906237/ See figures 1-3 from this clinic who is reporting more surgeries and more FTM surgeries. So what would explain this? Well, there certainly seems to be a social contagion issue at play here. Dr. Lisa Littman found herself in a serious quandary when she performed a study at Brown University which resulted in findings that included a social contagion element, primarily among girls. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq8ryFVy_LM 3:45-6:28 Now, there have been rebuttals to the Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria hypothesis of Dr. Littman, but none of which deal with the substance of the matter and use poor if not misleading standards. Articles and Studies below: https://www.city-journal.org/article/a-new-low https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article/150/3/e2022056567/188709/Sex-Assigned-at-Birth-Ratio-Among-Transgender-and?autologincheck=redirected Now, what does WPATH, the leading organization on standards for transgender surgery say about this? Well, Dr. Marci Bowers, the transgender vaginoplasty surgeon who worked on Jazz Jennings had this to say: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuwOx9YdHXY So how has transitioning affected those who have transitioned? Well, let's look at the most publicized transition, Jazz Jennings and see how she is doing post surgery: Courtesy of Candace Owens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuwOx9YdHXY 0:44-2:33 Now, Jazz Jennings has nearly 2 decades of life dedicated to this transition. Do you think that it would be easy to say that there was regret here? But let's look at how Jazz feels about life in general: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2lmlWy0yXg 0:44-1:49 Remember, this is the mom that told Jazz to shove a dilator, a phallus, into the vaginoplasty or momma would… sounds like assault to me. Now, some brave souls have detransitioned despite the backlash that they have faced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O3MzPeomqs 0:00-1:17 So why, why is this so common? Why are we leaving all of the warning signs behind? Well there are two motivations, both as old time and as perverse as possible: Money and Power. Scott Newgent, a female to male transitioner, clearly articulates the issue of money and Lupron here in this press event: https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1634682798903635970 5:01-8:31 But what of the power claim? Well, to look at that, we need to be introduced to some people at WPATH, World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and what they do. This org sets the standards for care that are followed religiously by medical facilities and governments for the Transgender Community. Recently, they've been pushing for a new addition to the LGBT acronym, E for Eunuch. https://twitter.com/WomenReadWomen/status/1646564740242743298?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1646564740242743298%7Ctwgr%5E9ad1042dc28605962f8a5c0072237e8ee50358de%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.louderwithcrowder.com%2Fsurgeon-eunuch Now, why is this relevant, well a number of people, including Thomas W Johnson, have been discovered by their own carelessness to be moderators on www.eunuch.org, a site with abuse child porn. Johnson and others in WPATH's pool of thought leaders have been discovered to be founding members of this smut site and are pushing for so-called scholarship that fits their destructive kinks, much like Kinsey, Money, and every other sicko under the sun. https://grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/top-academic-behind-fetish-site-hosting So what does this mean for the Christian? We should be quick with the truth, slow to anger, and consistent in love. Let's be equipped for the next time someone tells us that it is only kind to transition youth or that we are doing it for the right reasons. No, it is not kind, it is abuse and it is for money and or power/deviant gratification. https://www.louderwithcrowder.com/surgeon-eunuch

He masterfully cleared up some of the most common misconceptions about transgender people. For example, Sander had this to say about choice: "People don't choose to be transgender, people choose to come out. Yet support and becoming an LGBTQ+ ally is a choice." In addition, we discuss the need for allies to speak out and/or do what they can behind the scenes, the rewarding side of being an LGBTQ+ ally and advocate, how Sander deals with hate and bigotry online, and so much more. Exulansic discusses her series, I am Jazz's Waking Nightmare, wherein she offers social and political commentary on Jazz Jennings' reality TV show, I am Jazz. Analysing gender ideology's infiltration in mainstream media, Exulansic delves into the postmodern condition of the Jennings family's pathological grooming of Jazz Jennings. Analysing the production of I am Jazz, Exulansic examines the reality show and how all reality has been edited out or caught accidentally on camera while Jazz's persona, crafted for television audiences as he is coached to demonstrate the happy “transgender” subject, morphs between the scripted lines and unscripted moments that allow for the reality and horror of his life to materialise. Historicising how the audience witnesses Jazz being coached for the show's production and by his own family, Exulansic ironises how despite his ad-libbed performances we still get glimpses of Jazz's real self through accidental admissions that are not edited out. Demystifying the rhetoric throughout this show's history—how sic “transgender” people will always be oppressed, Exulansic studies how this show has become a marketing platform for ideological dissemination while locating the mother, Jeanette Jennings, as the primary perpetrator of her son whom she sexually abuses and shatters his psychological development through the pseudo-medical hokum and dangerous medical experimentation, all executed in the name of transgender ideology.  Get full access to Savage Minds at savageminds.substack.com/subscribe

A federal court in Texas has ordered a public library system to put back into circulation over a dozen books that were removed from the shelves. The books, which covered issues relating to LGBTQ+ and racism, had been pulled by the library. Library patrons sued, alleging that the books had been removed due to disagreement with their viewpoint. The patrons also claimed that the library had closed board meetings to the public and replaced its advisory board with community members who supported censorship. The judge granted the patrons' request for a preliminary injunction, which also stops the library from removing any more books while the lawsuit is pending. The case comes at a time of increasing school book bans. PEN America has documented nearly 2,532 school book bans affecting 1,648 titles from July 2021 to June 2022, with most of the challenged books addressing LGBTQ+ issues or systemic racism. The books in question include "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent" by Pulitzer winner Isabel Wilkerson and "Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen" by Jazz Jennings.Texas Library System Must Return Removed Books to CirculationJohnson & Johnson has agreed to pay $8.9bn to settle all the lawsuits relating to its talc-based powders causing cancer. The payment is aimed at settling claims from about 60,000 claimants, and the company has withdrawn its talc-based baby powder, Shower to Shower and other such products from the market. The world's largest healthcare products company hopes to fund a trust set up in US bankruptcy court in Trenton, New Jersey, to cover future claims. Monies in the settlement will be paid out over 25 years. Traces of asbestos have been blamed for causing ovarian cancer and mesothelioma, specifically tied to asbestos exposure. Women and men have been blaming the company for causing these diseases, and internal J&J documents dating back to the early 1970s show workers warning managers about traces of asbestos found in talc bottled for baby powder.J&J to Pay $8.9 Billion to Settle Talc-Cancer Lawsuits (2)The IRS will release its plan for spending its $80 billion in multiyear funds later this week, according to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel. The plan will focus on improving online interactions between taxpayers and the agency, shortening lengthy phone wait times, and providing in-person assistance to taxpayers. The IRS also plans to hire and train employees to audit returns of high-income taxpayers, large corporations, and partnerships. The goal is to make real-world improvements and investments in technology that can digitize IRS processes and strengthen enforcement against corporations and high-income individuals.IRS Plan for $80 Billion Coming This Week, Yellen Says (1)The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) will be available for test takers to take at home or at a testing center starting from August. The LSAT was moved exclusively online in May 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on in-person gatherings. The Law School Admission Council, which designs and administers the LSAT, partnered with Prometric Testing to provide test sites around the globe. Although most test takers will have a choice, some prefer the in-person experience to the challenges of at-home testing, including unreliable internet connections, multiple roommates, and noisy conditions.Online? In-person? LSAT takers will soon have a choice | ReutersAnd, finally, giving you ample opportunity to completely bail on this last story if you've had about enough Donald Trump news. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's indictment of former President Donald Trump on hush money charges related to a 2016 election scandal brought few new details about the case. Bragg accused Trump of falsifying records in his real estate company's books to conceal reimbursing his personal lawyer Michael Cohen for a $130,000 hush money payment. The payment was made to a woman who alleged she had an affair with Trump. Although it is the first time a former US president has faced criminal charges, legal experts not involved with the case say its strength will likely depend on evidence that has not been made public. The indictment did not specify the crimes that were allegedly being concealed. Meanwhile, prosecutors detailed similar schemes Trump allegedly orchestrated to silence two other people who had damaging information about him in a separate filing. Experts said this could help Bragg's office demonstrate to a jury that Trump intended to commit a crime. Cohen, who testified before the grand jury that indicted the former president, has previously pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations for the Daniels payment, which could leave him open to attacks on his credibility by Trump's defense at trial.Analysis: Trump indictment on hush money charges brings few new facts | Reutershttps://law-and-politics.online/@Teri_Kanefield/110143334776123102The People of New York v. If you don't think the Nashville shooting this week had anything to do with Jazz Jennings, the LGBTQ or what have you, think again! The shooter was LGBTQ trangender FtM, that was frustrated over her parents rejecting her transgender life and TN's recent banning of transitioning children. She open fired at a CHRISTIAN school, Christianity is something the LGBTQ and the left have villianized and said needs to be attacked and it happened. Jazz is innocent in the shooting and did not incite violence, but the US has been fighting against drag book hours, and transitioning children. Jazz - the youngest child to undergo transition medication was essentially an eperiment. In her last episode of I Am Jazz - Season 8 - she admitted she regrets her transition as she never feels right. Transing her at such a young age forced her to undergo 4 major bottom surgeries to fix the issue, she was not happier as they say, her mental health declined and it pretty much validated what the state of TN was saying when they banned transitioning on children and drag shows outside of a club. So her results and the outcry from parents is causing a movement - politically with laws to protect our children. All this and more in this episode of It's Emma's World

The Left still refuses to allow the true stories of American tragedy to be told; they are immersed in a desire to let only Party approved tellings of who we become be seen by Americans. That is because they are terrified people will realize how God designed us. The Mockingbird Media and the White House magically turned George Floyd into a self-sacrificing servant and civil rights hero. On a college campus, mental victims of CRT blocked people from seeing a film that describes George Floyd in full, his American story, his “truth” if you will. The true George Floyd cannot be seen because seeing the true George Floyd shows the true American Left. They cannot allow light to fall on them, for God is Light and in Him there is no darkness at all. Jazz Jennings, once a little boy sentenced by his parents to live in a broken shell of a sexless body, is expressing the desperately sad feelings common to a person suffering from a deep-rooted identity crisis “I just want to feel like me.” Who can blame him? Again, the Mockingbird Media hides the brutality of what his parents allowed the Party to do to him and the White House wants to do surgically other kids what they did both figuratively and literally to George Floyd: kill who he was to create a pretense of who they need him to be for their ends. The Party cannot allow light to fall upon the story of Jazz Jennings, because they know the Light will overcome darkness. Let us cast light on all of this. What does God say? 1 Peter 2 – The Glory And The Duty Of God's People“Sordid” and “Ugly” Scene Disrupts Showing Of Film About George Floyd at Central Connecticut State U. Students and at least one faculty member “stormed onto the stage, screaming that the film was ‘racist' and holding signs proclaiming it ‘hate speech'.”One of the victims of CRT filmed her protest, in which she and her comrades blocked people from seeing the film. The Greatest Lie Ever Told: George Floyd & the Rise of BLMReport: Kamala Harris Will Campaign in Urban Centers, Target Black Voters for Biden's 2024 Campaign; “But I don't know that the people who have to make that happen feel that way right now. I don't know that she has what it takes to get over the hump in our present environment.”Jazz Jennings' mother speaks about forcing Jazz to dilate and further mutilate HIS fake-vagina [read: gash cut between his legs] to keep the wound from closing. It's the brazen openness to admit to child abuse on national television for us. This monster belongs behind bars.So-called “trans” Reality Star Jazz Jennings who was pushed to pretend to change gender by HIS parents at age 6 reveals the sad reality of what is misnamed “medically transitioning”: “I just want to feel like myself…all I want is to be happy and feel like me and I don't feel like me ever”.Just a reminder that Marci Bowers is the president of WPATH and Jazz Jennings personal doctor. Jazz Jennings went on puberty blockers at 11. Jazz has never experienced an orgasm, and never will. OAN

This episode is being rereleased as part of our Top 5 Episodes of 2022 Countdown! We have completed eleven interviews and today we analyze the second half of our Pioneers Series. Stella and I discuss the psychological and emotional impact of some recent interviews. We review the shocking discussions we've had with several of our guests and reflect on the flawed Dutch Protocol, which is often held up as the gold standard in childhood dysphoria medical treatment. Dr. Anne Lawrence's reflections on Autogynephilia and the extreme measures she feels some might take are discussed in the context of the Dutch researcher's interview. We also think back about the role Az Hakeem's groups will play when we examine this period in hindsight, years down the line. Perhaps Susan Bradley is right about ASD being a large explanatory factor in understanding gender dysphoria more broadly. We also look at the Samoan Prime Minister's response to the Olympic Weightlifting competition: arguably the leaders of integrating male femininity into their society, the Samonas had sharp words for the Pacific Games Council's admission of trans MtF lifter, Laurel Hubbard, in competing against two Samoan women. We're wrapping up this season and we'll be returning to our regular weekly programs with our next episode on May 20th. If you are a Patron, thank you! And don't fret: we'll continue recording our weekly Q&As and posting them on Patreon. Thanks for listening!Extended NotesStella and Sasha, being therapists, naturally ask questions to gain understanding of one's thinking. They talk about the psychological and emotional toll this series had on them. They first analyze their conversation with Thomas Steensma and Annelou de Vries. Sasha shares what stood out to her.Stella also touches on her thoughts and why she sees avoidance tactics as anti-psychological.They explain what the gender dysphoria scale is all about. The entire premise of the puberty blockers experiment is based on the so-called success of the gender dysphoria scale. They both share their disagreements with these methods.Sasha talks about the unethical assumptions made with their studies. They move on to analyze their conversation with Anne Lawrence and how both their mouths dropped when she talked about castration.Stella asks why obsession is not being brought into this rather than just focusing on it as a gender identity topic.Sasha shares her thoughts about the dismissive counseling she has noticed in general. They both talk about their understanding of the depth of Anne's suffering through her experience.Sasha evaluates Anne's actions and responses as an obsession to a rejection of a body part, which is common in most Aspy people.Stella thinks there is still so much to be done on autistic diagnosis brainwork and she is looking forward to the next 15‒20 years.Everyone has a very high regard for the Dutch model, implying that they are being very careful but they both disagree.Sasha recalls how Steensma and de Vries may have perceived them as activists in their line of questioning.Stella and Sasha share more feedback about the Dutch study if they truly wanted it to be neutral and inclusive. What if the whole premise of the gender dysphoria scale is flawed? Sasha asks in retrospect. We shouldn't really change something unless we have a really clear understanding of what the current state of affairs is. Stella reflects on this against puberty blockers. They share how off-putting it was for them to talk about the human body in a flippant manner. What if Jazz Jennings was put on this gender dysphoria scale? Stella and Sasha talk about their disappointment further.Stella mentions Az Hakim and how she admires his approach vs. the rigid coldness of the so-called...

When Matt was 15 years old, he was told that he was an “Indigo Child” with a special “aura.” Today, he is an atheist who attributes his most mystical experiences to rock'n'roll. In this episode, we compare our observations of how quasi-mystical belief systems can rush to fill the religious voids left by our secular society, leading to magical thinking that idealizes children while neglecting their true psychosocial developmental needs. In what ways are today's “trans children” similar to the “indigo children” of 30 years ago? This conversation covers a lot of ground. Matt assuages my ego, explaining why it wasn't my fault that history was my worst subject in school. Later, I explain what I miss about being a quasi-Hindu hippie, as we compare my peak experiences drumming in call-and-response kirtan circles with the ecstatic joy he found in mosh pits. We also discuss the elements of ritual, transcendent unity, heuristics, adolescent development, social status, negative partisanship, historiography, subtypes of narcissism, family dynamics, parenting, our disconnection from nature, Jazz Jennings, spectral harms, the vital role of hardship in life, the long term mental health risk factors today's trans youth are likely face as they age, and what might happen when we realize: the kids aren't alright. Buckle up!Matt Osborne is a US Army signals intelligence and electronic warfare veteran, political scientist, and historian. He spent ten years in "netroots" as an online progressive activist. In 2012, he went from covering wonky policy topics and "movement news" to the strangest political "scene" in America upon the death of Andrew Breitbart, becoming the first "blogger" to write about Ali Alexander of 1/6 infamy. Later in 2016, he was one of the first people to write about Cambridge Analytica, Donald Trump, and all things Russia, but with the warning that it was too easy to lose direction in a "wilderness of mirrors." He was featured in the HBO documentary "After Truth" about his role in online information spaces during the 2017 special US Senate election in Alabama. Now disenchanted with the state of liberalism, and a repeat victim of "Cassandra syndrome," he has given up politics and become a conflict historian. His website Polemology.net is focused on the intersection of human minds and military revolutions. As an editor for The Distance, he puts the "gender identity" phenomenon in historical context as an emerging American New Age religious movement. In this episode, we mentioned Matt's conversation with Graham Lineman. At present, her lines of research focus on 1) the co-occurrence of autism and gender dysphoria, 2) capacity for informed consent of transgender adolescents, 3) long term follow up of transgender adolescence into middle adulthood, 4) sexual development of transgender adolescents, 5) shared decision making in transgender care, and 6) pathways in gender identity exploration and affirmation. The reason this interview is so important is bc the concept of puberty blockers originated with these two researchers (along w/ cohen kettenis.) We talk about patient zero and the 22 year follow up w/ this person. We get into the nitty gritty details about the 2 studies on which all puberty blocker treatment is based: we ask why they selected certain methods, talked about eligibility criteria, and the 15 participants who didn't make it into the final study. We even touch on Jazz Jennings, social media, ROGD and detransition. This conversation felt, to us at least, like we barely scratched the surface: we were frankly left with more questions than answers, which we are so eager to talk about in our post series analysis. This week on A Special Place in Hell, the girls/women spend way too much time on names. Are you a racist for mispronouncing Nimrata Nikki Randhawa? (Yes). Is the aforementioned a white supremacist for changing her name to Nikki Haley? (Yes). Should Meghan become Meghan X Daum? (Definitely). Why did George W. Bush call his wife “Bushie”? (Unclear). The girls/women then move on to a lighter topic: the new guidelines announced at the recent World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) annual meeting, which contain protocols for gender-affirming surgeries on minors and, at long last, recognize a new protected identity, “eunuch.” Fully aware that they have not covered the topic of g*nder nearly enough on the podcast, they make up for lost time by going down a number of fetid rabbit holes exploring a number of avenues, including Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria, the televised gender journey of Jazz Jennings, and mothers with Munchausen by proxy syndrome. The last item leads them to their second favorite activity after talking about g****r—blaming women for societal ills. Thanks for listening!   Extended Notes Stella and Sasha, being therapists, naturally ask questions to gain understanding of one's thinking. They talk about the psychological and emotional toll this series had on them. They first analyze their conversation with Thomas Steensma and Annelou de Vries. Sasha shares what stood out to her. Stella also touches on her thoughts and why she sees avoidance tactics as anti-psychological. They explain what the gender dysphoria scale is all about. The entire premise of the puberty blockers experiment is based on the so-called success of the gender dysphoria scale. They both share their disagreements with these methods. Sasha talks about the unethical assumptions made with their studies. They move on to analyze their conversation with Anne Lawrence and how both their mouths dropped when she talked about castration. Stella asks why obsession is not being brought into this rather than just focusing on it as a gender identity topic. Sasha shares her thoughts about the dismissive counseling she has noticed in general. They both talk about their understanding of the depth of Anne's suffering through her experience. Sasha evaluates Anne's actions and responses as an obsession to a rejection of a body part, which is common in most Aspy people. Stella thinks there is still so much to be done on autistic diagnosis brainwork and she is looking forward to the next 15‒20 years. Everyone has a very high regard for the Dutch model, implying that they are being very careful but they both disagree. Sasha recalls how Steensma and de Vries may have perceived them as activists in their line of questioning. Stella and Sasha share more feedback about the Dutch study if they truly wanted it to be neutral and inclusive. Stella and Sasha talk about their disappointment further. Stella mentions Az Hakim and how she admires his approach vs. the rigid coldness of the so-called experts. Psychotherapy vs. Bodily Autonomy. Sasha compares the difference between their approach and their guests in this series. Psychology is very powerful and Sasha believes that we have a lot of opportunities to make our own future regardless of transitions....

Using your voice for change can be simple or complex. Your voice is a powerful tool. Incredible people throughout history have used their voices to create change. Maya Angelou was a poet and an activist who used her voice in support of the Civil Rights Movement. Jazz Jennings is a teenager who got her claim to fame by becoming an American YouTube personality as an LGBT rights activist and a transgender woman. The misconception is that you don't have to be famous or have a million followers on Instagram to be able to empower someone or make a difference in the lives of others. There are many ways, both big and small, you can use your voice for the betterment of communities throughout the globe, despite how young or old you may be. This week's episode is all about how we can use our voice for the betterment of communities, despite how young or old we may be. I discussed extensively with Onome how she is using her voice to positively impact adding value to others and bringing lasting health change in Africa.
