Wonderful to catch up with one of my favourite contemporary singers and writers  Twinnie who is always beautifully authentic and honest whether its making people dance or breaking their hearts through country tinged classics alongside her incredible work offering a safe space for artists with her brilliant I Know A Woman organisation. From her roots in musical theatre productions including starring in "The Wizard Of Oz", "We Will Rock You" and the youngest ever performer to star as Velma in "Chicago" it was the time she broke her leg that changed everything and pushed her into writing more and developing as an artist with the help of fellow podcast guest Jon Green and Lucie Silvas amongst others.  Her album "Hollywood Gypsy" was released in early 2020 which was a challenge in itself and then followed up with the superb "Welcome To The Club" EP accompanied by her self directed and written short film. I describe her as a force of nature as she really is - her voice is beautiful and her writing is steeped in classic storytelling and Nashville charm throughout. Currently part of the incredible Woman To Woman project with Beverley Craven, Julia Fordham and Rumer , Judie Tzuke is not only one of the finest writers the UK has ever produced but also has one of the most distinctive voices full of warmth and believability. Here she talks about her beginnings writing poems which turned into songs forming the basis of her albums initially signed to Elton John's label with whom she toured with - yes that famous US show where he dressed as Donald Duck. Her seminal classic "Stay With Me Til Dawn" sounds as beautiful today as it ever did with its signature string arrangement by legend Paul Buckmaster. I have been lucky enough to write with her on songs I count to be my very best including "If (When You Go)" (recorded both by herself and with Beverley and Julia for the project) which has the loveliest story behind it and "Maybe This Christmas" with the truly breathtaking Harriet as well as writing classics with Lucie Silvas, Tom Baxter, Morcheeba and BT . She also talks about her battle with stage fright and how losing her voice on a show became the remedy for it as well as how surviving cancer and Covid have made her more fearless than ever. I've said it before, she's an angel, like a real life one. She's changed so many peoples lives, is always helping and nurturing new talent and continues to be one of my favourite writers and humans. In this episode, Mark Baratto sits down with singer-songwriter Shelly Fairchild. We talk about how her career began, how leaving her label for another was the best thing for her career, how being true to yourself is the only way to be... and of course, Dolly Parton. More on Shelly Shelly Fairchild isn't new to the industry – but she's far from old news. A staple in the Nashville music community, Fairchild hit the scene to much acclaim with her Columbia Records debut album Ride. The project introduced the young artist's soulful, gospel-tinged brand of alternative country and spawned a Top 40 hit with “You Don't Lie Here Anymore.” She toured with some of the biggest names in the format, including Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and Tim McGraw, and began to dig her roots in the industry. She again found success in her second release, Ruby's Money, which came steeped in a thick groove with elements of funk – but it was Buffalo, her crowd-funded 2017 release, that marks a milestone in her life and career.  “I'm sincerely grateful for both the good and bad things that have happened in my life. Everyone that I've met and worked with over the 20 years that I've lived in Nashville has made me who I am, and I will always carry that in my soul,” says Fairchild.  The Jackson, Miss. native started the project in May 2014, launching a PledgeMusic campaign in the hopes that she would find support of her endeavor – and after reaching her goal in just two days, she realized she had. Fairchild's 3rd full length studio record was fully funded and buoyed by the faith of her friends, family and fans.   The next two years saw Fairchild working with some of her most inspirational industry co-writers. “House on Fire,” an aching ballad reflecting on the weight of one's past, was the first song that she remembers finishing and feeling confident that it deserved a spot on her record. Co-written by Fairchild along with Lisa Carver and Travis Meadows, the track features subtle but classic country instrumentation and the soft harmonies of one of her favorite bands, the Fairground Saints.  From there the singer/songwriter continued to pen songs that she felt carried an important message to either herself or the world around her.  Guided by Jeremy Lister and Carey Ott, Fairchild recorded eight of her co-written tracks for the record that would become known to her fans as 'Buffalo'.  Though she tackled some serious topics in her writing, Fairchild felt extremely uplifted by her own work and that of others.  “I love singers and songwriters,” she smiles.  I love to have camaraderie and deep friendships with great singers and musicians. I feel like our community in Nashville is so rich and some of my favorite voices are my friends. I am so fortunate to have worked with so many great artists on Buffalo like Wendy Moten, Lucie Silvas, K.S. Rhoads, Fairground Saints, and of course Carey & Jeremy. My heart felt like it was going to explode by the end of the recording process." Not only does Buffalo emphasize its diversity by featuring guest vocalists, but it also highlights a wide array of musical styles and influences.  “There are a lot of different elements to the music that I make,” says Fairchild. “How do you describe some of the best bands that you know? They ended up on pop radio or on country radio, but are they really that kind of act? I have so many influences and I love having them show up in my songs. It feels like that kind of music lasts longer, because it feels real.”  As for the name of her last full length album to date, Fairchild says, "In many Native American cultures, the buffalo is a symbol of gratitude and abundance. I am from Choctaw ancestry and I completely connect with the idea that though buffalo carry a lot on their shoulders, their horns are always pointing up to the sky. There's always this hope that the weight will be lifted." A longtime hidden gem in the trove of Nashville musicians, Fairchild continues to keep her head and her heart pointing up to the sky. Dave and Lucie discuss Dave's favorite Lucie Silvas tracks. Those favorite Lucie Silvas tracks include:  Dave's Fave 1: “Letters to Ghosts” was written over multiple years with John Green. It’s a message of forgiveness towards your past self and an especially emotionally poignant song for Lucie.Dave's Fave 2: “Black Jeans” might be Lucie’s favorite song on E.G.O. It’s also one that brought JD McPherson and Trent Dabbs into the studio together for the first time.Dave's Fave 3: “How To Lose It All” is Lucie’s exhale moment on-stage. It instantly makes her feel comfortable and like a kid again.Dave's Fave 4: “Everything Looks Beautiful” was everything Lucie’s ever wanted a song to be. She always sings it with John in mind.Dave's Fave 5: “Girls From California” was inspired by Lucie comparing her appearance to others as she walked the streets of L.A. It starts there, but ends as an affirmation of self and individuality.

“The Transfer” premiered on May 11, 2013. It was written by Justin Brenneman and Julia Brownell; Brenneman is a Smash rookie, while Brownell last penned last month’s episode, “The Dress Rehearsal.” The episode was directed by Holly Dale, also a newcomer to our Smash world. The viewership fell for its last time in the series, dipping by 270,000 to a total of 2.01 million viewers.  We had four original songs in the episode this week. Our two from Hit List included “Pretender,” written by Lucie Silvas and Michael Busbee, and “I’m Not Sorry,” written by Andrew McMahon. Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman penned our remaining two for the Houston/Levitt revue, which were the punny “Grin and Bare It,” performed by Megan Hilty, and “The Right Regrets,” sung by our now-defunct music team Christian Borle and Debra Messing. Audiences are literally running to see Hit List on Broadway with Derek’s former assault-ee Daisy now understudying Ana but something about the show isn’t working uptown. Derek is worried that the problem is Ana’s performance as the Diva, so he tries putting Daisy on for the role. Jimmy wants a posthumous Tony Award for Kyle, so he and Julia get to work on finding a solution that brings some of the downtown magic Hit List had off-Broadway up to 46th Street. The great Lindsay Mendez guest stars as the great Lindsay Mendez performing in a one-night concert of Huston and Levitt songs designed as a ploy for Tony nominations. You see, as Eileen knows “the Tonys are not just about a great show, but a great story.” And Bombshell’s story is that Tom and Julia are a great, yet so-far unawarded pair of song writers so she asks the semi-estranged duo to perform a duet at the concert. Ivy and Karen make a Times Square promise that although award season is bound to get a little crazy, they promise to be adults about it. Ivy’s pill-popping past is catching up with her, so she has to start fixing her reputation from difficult diva to sweethearted star. But the player with more on the line is Derek, who is being blackmailed by a “Not Sorry” Daisy in exchange for taking over Ana’s role.  Everyone who’s anyone shows up for the Huston-Levitt concert, including pre-icon Lin-Manuel Miranda playing a twitter-obsessed, Jonathan Groff-obsessed Lin-Manuel Miranda. That is, everyone except for Julia who is too busy reworking Kyle’s ideas into ways to save Hit List. Covering for Julia missing in action, Ivy throws caution to wind and doubles down on her bawdy reputation in a burlesque performance of “Grin and Bare It.” And in the 11th hour, Julia finally arrives to perform a nostalgic duet with Tom as they both decide to say goodbye to their writing partnership. When Ivy is confronted by Ana about Derek, the leading lady takes on Karen saying”you play this naive, just-off-the-bus routine to get exactly what you want, but deep down you’re just as calculating as the next person.” In a parting shot, Ivy tells Karen that she’s glad Hit List made it to Broadway because now she can beat her fair and square for the awards. This episode is a must-listen to anyone seeking an insider’s look into how a hit-making Nashville producer can maintain his faith while producing top mainstream artists. When you look beyond this amazing list of production credits you will discover that Sal Oliveri is an outspoken Jesus follower who carries his humble, authentic faith into every session. Country/Americana: Chris Stapelton, Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow, The Band Perry, Brett Eldredge, Lee Brice, Randy Houser, Parmalee, Haley & Michaels, Ricky Skaggs, Faith Hill, Jo Dee Messina, Lee Ann Womack, Charles Kelly (Lady Antebellum), John Paul White (The Civil Wars), David Nail, Lori McKenna, Kip Moore, High Valley, Leigh Nash Pop/Rock/Urban: P!NK, Billy Joel, Emily West (America’s Got Talent 2014 #2 finalist), Brooke White (American Idol), David Cook (American Idol), Dia Frampton (The Voice), Jack Antonoff (FUN, Bleachers), Dan Wilson (Semisonic, Adele), Stan Lynch (of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), Daniel Powter, Lucie Silvas, B.Reith, Room for Two, Jaren Johnston of “Cadillac Black”, Andy Davis, Kevin Griffin (of Better Than Ezra) David Hodges (Evanescence) Raised in the shadows of Manhattan, Sal Oliveri developed a diverse musical background. Before long, he was performing as musical director and keyboardist at Harlem’s famous “Cotton Club” and hitting the NJ/NY studio scene. Soon after, Sal relocated to Nashville where his musical efforts quickly earned him a co-written #1 single and a Grammy Nomination. Sal has earned multiple Billboard and iTunes #1’s, with over 13 Million streams in 2017 alone. John Chisum visited with Sal in his amazing Grand Central South Studio, frequented by clients such as Kathi Lee Gifford, Nicole C. Mullen, and mega country writers Allen Shamblin (“I Can’t Make You Love Me”) and Tom Douglas (“Love Me Anyway”), as well as many aspiring artists looking for his production help. John and Sal Oliveri talk about the Pink/Chris Stapleton duet “Love Me Anyway” (Douglas/Shamblin) and how a writer’s demo became a hit song years after the production was done. Singer-songwriters and up-and-coming artists in any genre get an inside track to Sal’s musical influences and perspectives, particularly in how he coaches artists to reach their best performances. Sal shares from his deeply biblical outlook how he believes great music happens and why, giving songwriters and artists many powerful insights into how they can “show up” as themselves instead of being an imitation of what others are doing.

“The Producers” premiered on April 27, 2013. It was written by Becky Mode, whose last episode of Smash was season 2 episode 7, Musical Chairs, and was directed by Tricia Brock, whose last episode was season 2 episode 9, The Parents. The viewership dropped again by 20,000 viewers, to a total of 1.89 million. We had a lot of music this episode, mainly from Hit List! Our one song from Bombshell was an excerpt of Shaiman and Whitman’s “20th Century Fox Mambo” performed by Megan Hilty (and Kathie Lee Gifford?), and our one cover was Jeff Buckley’s “The Last Goodbye,” sung by Andy Mientus. The remainder of our songs come from Hit List: we hear excerpts from Pasek and Paul’s “Rewrite this Story,” and Joe Iconis’ “Broadway Here I Come.” Two new songs were another by Joe Iconis called “The Goodbye Song,” and “Don’t Let Me Know,” written by Lucie Silvas and Jamie Alexander Hartman. Without much competition for new musicals on Broadway this season, Bombshell is poised to make a splash at the Tony Awards in June. But with slow ticket sales, Eileen is going to have to pray for a miracle to keep Bombshell open til June. So she is whoring out Ivy for press events right and left, anything from the Today show to an appearance at the Brighton Beach Senior Center.  Adding insult to injury, producers Daryl Roth and Kevin McCollum are duking it out with ten other producers ready to write a check to move Hit List to Broadway this season. But there may not be a show to move if Jimmy shows up late and high for photo calls. Derek attempts to solve the Jimmy problem by hiring former Bombshell ensemblist Sam Strickland to understudy him.  Things are looking up for Julia, with the announcement her new non-musical version of Gatsby going to Manhattan Theatre Workshop next season. Now that Tom isn’t in line to direct the City of Angels revival, he wants Julia to create the show with him. The conflict comes to a head at one of Ivy’s many press events: Julia feels Tom told her under no uncertain terms he only wants to direct, while Tom believes Julia is only interested in being a writing partner when she gets her way. With tonight seeming to become the most important night in Hit List’s life, Derek gives Jimmy an ultimatum: shape up or ship out. But Jimmy doesn’t take the threat seriously, showing up late onstage, making up choreography and causing an onstage accident that leaves Karen with a bleeding gash. The performance is the last straw for Derek, firing Jimmy on the spot. But the journey for Hit List may be dead in the water anyway, as every potential investor is scared off because the show isn’t financially viable enough to make it on Broadway. “The Fringe” premiered on March 12, 2013. It was written by Julia Brownell, and directed by Dan Lerner, two more newcomers to the Smash family. The viewership was up this week! Up 220,000 from the previous episode, “The Fringe” was seen by 2.9 million viewers. We saw three songs and a reprise this week: one of which was a cover of “This Will Be Our Year” by The Zombies, sung by the Hit List cast. The other two and a half were original songs from all three of our musicals! Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman delivered us a reprise of “Never Give All the Heart” from Bombshell, and a Glitter-and-Be-Gay inspired number from Liaisons called “A Letter From Cecile.” Lastly, from Hit List we got a new song called “Heart Shaped Wreckage,” written by Julian Emery, Jon Green, James Lawrence Irvin, and Lucie Silvas. Hit List has booked a spot in the Winter Fringe after all! It’s only two presentations in shoebox, but Jimmy is convinced Hit List is good enough to outshine the venue. Which is good because the show gets picked up by Time Out and “a bunch of theatre people RSVP’d!”  Back at Bombshell, Eileen has decided to produce the dynamic, technicolor fantasy that Tom and Jerry prefer, much to the schgrin of Julia and Derek. Karen is all lined up to star in Hit List, but Jerry can’t be “introducing Karen Cartwright” if she’s already been introduced at the Winter Fringe, which leaves Jimmy, Kyle and the rest of the Fringe crew understandingly ticked off about Karen’s backing out.  At a coffee klatch in Madison Square Park, Ivy tells Derek that Terry Falls continues to derail Liaisons into a farce. But he replies that standing out as good in a bad show is a time-honored theatre tradition and to follow her instinct. She spices up the production’s press preview by adding her own brand of humor, but her good work threatens Terry Falls. Only in an 11th hour company meeting does Terry have the balls to invite the company to  Bombshell’s new producer Jerry Rand continues to meddle with Julia’s script, suggesting they cut the intellectual downer of a song “Never Give All The Heart.” He and Eileen give Tom a challenge: change it into an uplifting song that makes them feel something in the next 24 hours. The composer puts a new spin on the song, making it a cautionary tale, empowered instead of wistful. But Tom’s direction puts Derek over the edge, quitting the show and storming out of rehearsal. And Eileen loves the work enough to crown Tom Bombshell’s new director. Derek’s departure from Hit List frees up Karen to perform in the second night of Hit List at the fringe, as well as making him available to watch her in it. Derek is taken by the show and the performances of both Karen and Jimmy. Scott Nichols, artistic director at Manhattan Theatre Workshop says the show is actually the kind of project he is looking for.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Producing and writing some of the biggest tracks and records of 2018-19, listening to the universe, and breaking down the music of Ian Fitchuk. Starting in Illinois, we work on the life and ideas of Ian all the way up to Kacey Musgraves', Golden Hour's success and beyond.    Ian Fitchuk's credits range from co-writing hits with Kacey Musgraves' to playing any instrument in the studio with major and indie acts. Presently his studio work ranges from singer-songwriter and Americana, to pop, rock, country music and the occasional gospel track. He has written and produced with Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves, Andrew Combs, Lucie Silvas, Jacob Whitesides, Mindy Smith, and Drew Holcomb among others. In recent years, he has also collaborated with artists as diverse as James Bay, Cam, Kesha, Brothers Osborne, Shania Twain, Shawn Mendes, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Amy Grant, Jake Bugg, and Buddy Miller. He recently began composing for TV, including a track featured in ad for Google and several songs in the primetime hit, Nashville on ABC. In 2019, Ian was nominated and tied for most ACM nominations in categories like Producer of the Year, as well as Album of the Year, Bass Player of the Year, Drummer of the Year, Piano/Keyboards Player of the Year and Specialty Instrument(s) Player of the Year, for his contributions to Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour.    In our conversation, we get to know what Ian gravitates toward in a session. Is it the people or the universe directing your actions and even the music? Not to mention, what holds most people back or puts people in a position to not move forward? But before we talk about music, we get to understand how Ian's early life echo's his talent. We also breakdown some of Ian's biggest projects in recent years including Ruston Kelly's Dying Star, Maren Morris' Girl, Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour, Susto, and others. We talk about taking risks, calibrating success, and creating an environment and balancing friendships in music.

Jordan may be most excited about becoming a father. We tap into that but we also start at the beginning in our conversation. Coming from a rich musical family (his uncle penning Tracy Lawrence’s hits, “Today’s Lonely Fool” and “Better Man, Better Off” and his brother also a songwriter in Nashville, TN), Jordan never got a free pass in the music city. With the help of his brother, right place in the right time connections, a fork in the road, and a little perseverance. The Claim2Fame Podcast is a resource for artists Every episode features successful artists and industry experts sharing compelling stories and valuable knowledge about the music industry hosted by CMA, ACM & CCMA Award Winning Broadcaster Cliff Dumas. Cliff talks to singer songwriter and Grammy winner Maren Morris about her debut single, growing up in Texas and her advice for new artists. Maren Morris Columbia Nashville artist Maren Morris took home a GRAMMY Awards at the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards. At barely twenty, she moved to Nashville, leaving behind a resume that boasted three hits on the Texas Music Chart: and while many arrive in town with a dream of their name in lights, resting on the marquees of the biggest and brightest venues, Morris simply wanted to work on her songwriting craft. And it’s not that she didn’t have aspirations as a performer – Morris had actually already logged years doing just that. But being a celebrity wasn’t the goal – spending her days and nights in the writing room, working with as many cowriters as possible and composing hundreds of songs, was. And though she’d only play the occasional local gig at first, she still managed to build an audience based on her sheer talent, honest lyrics and a completely magnetic presence. Small shows led to big opening gigs: for Little Big Town, Sam Hunt, Loretta Lynn and Chris Stapleton. As a working songwriter she scored cuts quickly, for artists like Tim McGraw and Kelly Clarkson. And she started shaping a community of likeminded friends leading a new charge in the country climate: the Brothers Osborne, Kacey Musgraves, Lucie Silvas. “It feels like a modern-day Chelsea Hotel,” she says of her very close, very talented pals. They became a tight knit circle dead-set on helping each other evolve into unique, game-changing artists. It wasn’t an easy process, but it was a brave one, full of soul-searching and soul-bearing moments that lead her to HERO – an album dedicated to pushing boundaries both in music and in her own heart, finding that place where melodies can be both deliciously joyous and thoughtfully reflective all at once. “HERO is all about a journey,” she says. “A lot of these songs came from a place of honesty and redemption. I looked very carefully at my own life, and that itself feels very heroic.” Sometimes it’s ok to be your own hero – and with HERO, it seems Morris is finally the girl who gets the glory. Get Real -w- Caroline Hobby

Lucie Silvas! This interview was a pure delight! And in the spirit of love (since it is Valentine's Day), how fitting that Lucie's husband John kicked off this interview, interviewing Lucie! He asked her a lot of personal questions, like how much she loved his big, sexy.... beard! Lucie and John then talked all about Lucie's incredible album they co-produced together, "Letters To Ghosts," and what the experience was like working together in the studio. Lucie is from Europe and has been writing songs, playing and singing since she was a wee little thing at the age of 10. At the age of 17 she hit the road touring as a background singer and then went on to score a record deal and sell A MILLION ALBUMS! I repeat, Lucie Silvas has sold A MILLION ALBUMS. Woah. She now is a Nashville Native and has toured with everyone from Little Big Town to Chris Stapleton. She is the tiniest, most stunning creature with the most enormous voice and soul. She has been named one of CMT's Next Women of Country, and Rolling Stone just debuted her trilogy of music videos she made for her album "Letters To Ghosts." Lucie is one of the purest spirits I know; her passion for sharing her gift of music is inspiring and the way she loves her husband, family and friends so fiercely is something nothing short of extraordinary. Oh, and John and his brother TJ, Brothers Osborne, just won CMA Duo Of the year! John tells us how that moment felt in detail! #Nashville #podcast #luciesilvas #carolinehobby #brothersosborne #cmt #womenofcountry Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers
