Rachel Shechtman is a fourth-generation retail entrepreneur and founder of STORY, a concept store known for its editorial, ever-changing approach to retail. Prior to opening STORY, Rachel built a career in consulting, founding Cube Ventures in 2002 - an independent firm known for its skill of strategically combining business models. When Rachel launched STORY in 2011 she did so with the belief that retail held the potential to be about more than the transaction - it could serve as a channel for branded, community-based storytelling – retail media. STORY offered the point of a magazine, changed like a gallery, and sold things like a store. After seven years and 44 different ‘themes', in April 2018, Rachel sold STORY to Macy's Inc. where she served as Brand Experience Officer until July 2020. During her time at Macy's, Rachel successfully launched two new businesses for the brand and built a 150+ person cross-functional team specifically and strategically designed to operate, perform and generate effective results efficiently and nimbly within the larger, traditional operation. Rachel has been recognized as Fast Company's 100 Most Creative People in Business, Fortune Magazine's 40 Under 40, Crain's Under 40 and Ad Age's 50 Most Creative. The AAF inducted Rachel into its Advertising Hall of Achievement and in 2018 Shechtman was named a Henry Crown Fellow by the Aspen Institute. Rachel sits on the Board of Directors of the National Retail Federation (NRF) and CAMP, an experiential family retail concept and media company.

Sex education– an active fight to break the stigma and promote sexual health, and controversy for some. With so many people finding the topic taboo, it's so easy to overlook the issues that come with being misinformed on what's meant to be a natural part of being human. In this episode, I'm joined by Kate Roberts, a social entrepreneur that founded The Body Agency, a company that aims to aid women and increase awareness in sexual wellness while being aware and considerate of both political and religious barriers. In addition, she's also the host of the Sex, Body, and Soul podcast, where she has open conversations about sexual wellness, fertility, periods, parenting, menopause, and more.   Episode Highlights: What brought Kate into the world of women's health and advocacy How Kate uses The Body Agency to navigate the sexual wellness space. How Kate works around political and religious barriers to teach women about sexual wellness.   About our guest:  Kate Roberts' late father was a ship's captain. By the time Kate was twelve she had seen more of the world, its beauty, vastness and social inequities than most people would see in two lifetimes. These early life imprints, coupled with several harrowing experiences she endured while working in Eastern Europe, fueled in her a fierce determination to make a difference in the lives of women around the globe.   Kate sees obstacles as opportunities and thrives on challenges.  She often describes herself as a ”serial” social entrepreneur; seizing opportunity, launching initiatives, and then moving on to “what's next.” She is a woman driven by passion and purpose. From 1999 until recently, Kate was Senior Vice President for Population Services International (PSI), a Washington, DC based $500M global NGO, that operates in 50 countries. By establishing meaningful relationships with a number of successful business women and philanthropists, she has raised hundreds of millions of dollars; created public and private partnerships and impacted the lives of women across the world.  As a leader in global philanthropy and social change Roberts has parlayed her business acumen and marketing background into a “Madison Avenue” approach; setting concrete goals and delivering measurable results. To that end, in 2012 Roberts founded Maverick Collective (a PSI initiative) to develop impactful projects in the developing world with which to tackle women's health issues. Engaging Melinda Gates, Dr. Precious Motsepe and the Crown Princess of Norway as Co-Chairs, Maverick Collective is redefining what it means to be an effective philanthropist and innovator. Kate describes herself as a pioneer in developing a new type of philanthropy – going beyond the checkbook, using time, talent, and treasure to become a more powerful and efficient advocate for mission-driven philanthropy to end extreme poverty. Historically, Kate's energies have been focused on global initiatives. Recently, her vision has brought her focus closer to home. Early in 2020 Roberts launched Ikigai Company, a private consulting practice dedicated to advising families, individuals and organizations on strategies to design and execute customized and purpose-driven fundraising. Inspired by the importance of empowering women at the most fundamental level, Kate founded The Body Agency, an ecommerce, femtech start-up and a global movement making it easy for women to have access to body health and sexual wellness products, services and education. Her aim is to provide women of all ages and cultural backgrounds an online sanctuary for exploring their body health and intimacy in a modern, affordable and fearless way. Public speaker, and producer of documentaries, and fluent in five languages, Kate routinely appears on TV and in print media, reprising her role as a champion for all that supports the ethos of women. Examples include: 2007 Young Global Leader at The World Economic Forum (WEF), Founding Curator of WEF Global Shapers, Fox News Power Player of the Week, Public Policy top 100 Thinkers, Fast Company Top 100 Most Creative, Vogue 100 Top women, CNN Hero, Jack Valenti AIDS Leadership Award and Fortune's Most Powerful Women. She hosts the weekly Podcast Sex Body and Soul. At the core of her being, is her desire to raise her daughter Lilly in an environment where passion and purpose are the norm and young girls are encouraged to develop into tomorrow's leaders and be free to embrace all of life's opportunities. AI is a hot topic in the voiceover world. Joining me on a thoroughly interesting discussion are Rupal Patel and Ian Russell.  Rupal Patel is the Founder and CEO of VocaliD, a voice AI company that creates synthetic voices with personality for discerning brands that understand the power of customised voice and for individuals living with speechlessness who want to be heard in a voice that is uniquely theirs. VocaliD is a spin out of Rupal's research at Northeastern University where she is an internationally renowned speech scientist and tenured professor. Named one of Fast Company's 100 Most Creative people in Business, Rupal has been featured on TED, NPR, WIRED, and in major international news and technology publications. Ian is a British Actor living in the USA. Back in 2012 his wife bought him an experience gift for christmas - A one day Introduction to Voiceover - 2 years later 2014 he started his VO business. He's now a multi nominated and multi award winning talent (including Voice of the Year 2020), he can be heard in campaigns around the world including a global branding campaign for Intel and the UK localisation TV Ad for Noom. He's an established gaming and animation voice - You perhaps know him as Locke in Payday2, The Psyker in Warhammer 40k Inquisitor Martyr or Igor in the breakout Indie Hit, Chernobylite. We hear from Ian and Rupal their perspectives on how AI has a place in voiceover. By applying your business head and not your emotional one voice actors have new opportunities rather than threats as a result of AI disrupting the industry and gaining attention.   We hear how technology has moved on from the days of concatic speech synthesis and how resynthesis of the voice is done today with modern technology. Today's neural text to speech is a new way of creating more flexible and higher quality AI voices with better tone and inflection. This also requires less speech input to create scalable AI voices. Which means a world of possibilities for voice actors! Having an AI built version of your voice means your voice can be used as a consistent brand element when you aren't available, when you are on vacation perhaps, making it an element of the whole voice industry ecosystem and not the threat it's sometimes perceived to be.  Ian and Rupal tell us about the opportunities presented by AI and how to capitalise on this advancing technology and the types of work out there.    Are you ready to take your voiceover career to the next level? The Voiceover Network is an organisation for voiceover professionals providing voiceover training, webinars, The Buzz magazine, support, networking events and an amazing VO community. The Apple Art Contest takes place during the Elyria Apple Festival but entries are due by September 10. Elyria Schools students--grades one through 12--are eligible to participate. First, second and third place winners are possible in the categories of Best Use of Color, Best Message and Most Creative. Art entries will be grouped by grade levels, 1-4, 5-8 and 9-12. Elyria students interested in participating should turn their completed artwork into their art teacher or school principal by Friday, September 10. Artwork should have an apple theme, be two dimensional on a 9X12 base of paper, poster board, cardboard, etc., and it should include the student's name, school name and grade level neatly written on the back side. Students: Let your creativity loose (and don't forget the apple theme!)

PiCast Episode 99 - Whedoncon 2018 What a weekend at WhedonCon 2018! So many friends attended, old and new! This is the #1 fan Con out there, plus it is for charity. This year the Con was raising money for the Wooten Center and the Lupus Foundation of America. Where to begin? We were on a panel at this con for the first time and Scott won “Most Creative” in the Cosplay Contest! It was a good time! The baby was a little fussy, but they are long days for the little guy. Didn’t stop him from being the cutest little Captain Hammer on day and from enjoying a dip in the Warner Center Marriott Pool another day! The special guests at Whedon con are truly special! They hang out with the attendees and you get to just enjoy time with the stars of your favorite fandoms like nowhere else! At Whedoncon there are private events that are even more intimate, photo shoots and meet and greets and even Game Night! Wonderful Q&A panels with Guest of honot Sean Maher and a Q&A with James Marsters who performs a Concert with his band and even came back for the Darn Good Shindig the next night! If you are in any way a fan of the Whedonverse, you need to get to this con! As for this episode of the PiCast, it is #99! We mention a ton of friends and I won’t list them all here, but we love you all! Also be sure and listen to the end for the secret word. You can win a Whedon Related Prize. Also, we come up with an idea for a convention so amazing, you just have to hear for yourself! If you were at Whedoncon, please call our voicemail and share your experience! Drew Carrick, aka "Petty Ca$h", has always wanted to entertain those around him. Whether it's his original rap songs about accounting or him being his college mascot for a few events, Drew really enjoys standing out, so he was a natural fit for the Green Apple Podcast. His "Public Accounting Anthem" went viral and the rest was history. Colleagues at his firm have recognized his innovation and entertaining skills, and as such deemed him as the "Most Creative". He's even performed his original rap songs at Grant Thornton events, which got the attention of the Marketing group for some special projects. In this episode, Drew and I talk about how Grant Thornton is doing some things to promote bringing your whole self to work. Drew said, "You shouldn't only be yourself when you're at home or hanging out with your friends. You should be able to be that around the people you work with, too." For most people, work isn't the most important thing in their lives and they need to know that it's not only okay, but the norm. And it definitely doesn't make you any less effective at your job.

Overthinking: The Curse of the Most Creative and Intelligent Really smart, creative, and thoughtful people have many strengths. They can plan things in advance, avoid potential pitfalls, and envision their future reality. Vividly. However one thing I have learned from my years of experience as a therapist and life coach is that all these positive attributes, when left unsupervised, can also create boatloads of anxiety. Overthinking and Indecision = Disempowerment When you anticipate possible problems you feel constricted. When you plan every step you often encounter roadblocks. When you want to make the "right" decision before taking action, you invest more time and energy in to thinking than into doing. At these times it's easy to become riddled with uncertainty, and decide before you even try that things aren't even worth doing. Slam! Analysis paralysis has clamped down on your life, and stopped you from living courageously. The result? A safe life... But a smaller life. Authentic Happiness Requires Risk One of the core skills of authentically happy people that I discuss at length in my online Happiness Class is the ability to take measured risks. Why is the ability to try new things related to happiness? Because when you take action to bring your life into alignment with your core values, it gets better. Another component of fearless living is being able to handle uncertainty or adversity with confidence and competence. That means your happiness is still intact, even when things go differently than you'd hoped. That's true resilience. Being resilient and trusting yourself means that it's safe to take chances. When you're able to fearlessly try new things, your world expands. When you give yourself permission to take action, you get to learn and grow no matter what. Not knowing exactly what is going to happen next adds sparkle and excitement to your life. When your life gets bigger and more interesting, so do you. Fearless Living Nourishes Your Relationship Furthermore, novelty and learning new things are core ingredients to having a fresh, fun long term relationship. When your life atrophies, so does your partnership. If you want to have an interesting relationship, you need to have an interesting life. Plus, there is nothing sexier than a passionate person who is enthusiastic and confident. When you set aside anxieties and allow yourself to live fearlessly, you nourish both yourself and your relationship. 5 Steps to Stop Worrying and Start Living Fearlessly On today's episode of the Love, Happiness and Success Podcast, I'm giving you the scoop on how to release worry from your life, feel more confident in your decisions, strengthen your sense of competence and resilience, and cultivate fearlessness in your own life. Listen now, and learn all about the care and feeding of your inner tiger. xoxo, Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby www.growingself.com
