The effect of the lockdown cannot be ignored when it comes to the young ones. Children also have their own worries and fears about Coronavirus. Their daily routine has changed, life is very different. Their lives have been turned upside down by the pandemic and for most children the world they knew have literally just disappeared. No more school, friends to play with, exams to prepare for, extracurricular activities cancelled and inability to see loved ones who are not resident in the same house. We cannot assume they will all cope very well. Gender selection is a medical procedure which is essentially a screening which allows IVF embryos to be tested for gender-related genetic conditions, before being placed in the womb. Last weekend, Bimbola and Jo joined a group of women on a retreat themed Broken and Blessed. The retreat was quite therapeutic and there were lots to learn from the speakers and other attendees. Most people at face value might not consider themselves broken but if you delve deeper into their life experiences, one would see several areas of brokenness. This could be a broken dream, a broken opportunity, a broken marriage, a broken relationship, a broken promise and the list goes on. What you do with your brokenness is what makes the difference between a happy woman or a depressed woman. It is very necessary as women to take time for ourselves to find out what makes us happy, focus on working on our brokenness and use it as a platform to usher us into our purpose. It is a weapon of mass destruction. As a parent of school age children, play date and sleepover becomes the order of the day. It doesn't matter how long our children spend time with their friends in school, they still yearn for more in the form of a play date or sleepover. This in itself is a good indication of how our children interact socially and form lasting friendships at a young age. Whilst the children are excited and look forward to play dates and sleepovers, their parents on the other hand might not be overly excited about this for various reasons which is quite disappointing to the children. Magazines, television and social media are often blamed for portraying an ideal body image that causes people to question their looks and lose confidence in themselves. We are then encouraged to 'Love our bodies'. But really what does that mean? Does it mean love exactly how you are irrespective of colour, size, body mass, peculiarities etc. Or does it mean loving what you can't change but changing what you can to boost your self? While child abuse has long been known to impact people from all demographics, research indicates over 75% of child maltreatment comes from a child’s own parents and close relatives. This stat is too close to home and very shocking. Child abuse ranges from neglect, domestic violence, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, sexual exploitation, online abuse and so on and so forth.
