Can a glass of pomegranate juice really help slow the growth of prostate cancer? In this episode of The Moss Report, Ben Moss and Dr. Ralph W. Moss take a deep dive into the clinical research on pomegranate and cancer—especially prostate cancer. They explore landmark studies from Johns Hopkins and UCLA, uncover the political backstory behind the POMx extract, and offer practical guidance for integrating pomegranate into a cancer-fighting or preventative diet. Dr. Moss also shares his personal use of pomegranate powder, discusses antioxidant synergy, and introduces options that reduce sugar intake without sacrificing benefits. A compelling look at how traditional foods meet cutting-edge science. “Fill up that self-help space with scientifically documented ways to reduce your cancer risk.” – Dr. Ralph W. Moss

Sister Wendy Beckett - Interview with Robert Ellsberg: Dearest Wendy: A Story of Faith and Friendship The Not Old Better Show, Author Interview Series Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, Art of Living author Interview series on radio and podcast. I'm Paul Vogelzang, and today's show is brought to you by POM Wonderful; 100% Pomegranate Juice is “health in a bottle.” We have an excellent holiday program about a surprising story of faith and friendship. Thank you so much for listening. As I say, we've got a great guest today, who, after reading his new book, I've been looking forward to for a while and whom I'll introduce in just a moment…But, quickly, if you missed any episodes, last week was our 680th episode, and I spoke with physicist, NASA scientist, author, and Smithsonian Associate Les Johnson about A Traveler's Guide to the Stars: The Possibilities of Interstellar Exploration Two weeks ago, I spoke to Smithsonian Associate Clay Jenkinson about Gulliver's Travels and the fascinating story within a story, not just for children. Wonderful stuff…If you missed those shows, along with any others, you can go back and check them out with my entire back catalog of shows, all free for you there on our website, NotOld-Better.com…and if you leave a review, we will read it at the end of each show…leave reviews on Apple Podcasts for us. Many people, as I did, first came to know Sr. Wendy Beckett in the 1990s through her popular television program, "Sister Wendy's Odyssey." She was an unlikely celebrity: diminutive, dressed in a medieval-looking black habit of her own design, her lively and intelligent features offset by large spectacles. Yet countless viewers became entranced by her tour of famous galleries around the world, and by her incisive and empathetic commentary on the works of art she encountered along the way. In 2018 Sister Wendy Beckett passed away. Several years prior to Sis Wendy's passing she began corresponding with our guest today author Robert Ellsberg. The book Dearest Sister Wendy . . . A Surprising Story of Faith and Friendship that resulted from those letters, emails, conversations and contact is out now, I've read it, and we'll be talking with Robert Ellsberg about it today on The Not Old Better Show on radio and podcast. That of course is our guest today, author, publisher Robert Ellsberg reading from his new book, which he's co-written, entitled: Dearest Sister Wendy…A Surprising Story of Faith and Friendship. We'll hear more today from Robert Ellsberg about his new book, and his hope that those who read it and these letters will discover the person, in Sister Wendy, behind the television persona: a modern mystic, a genius of the spiritual life, a person of far-seeing sensitivities, a great lover of God whose capacity for love she was still discovering at the end of her life. And perhaps they will feel included in her final apostolate of friendship. Please join me in welcoming to The Not Old Better Show on radio and podcast, author Robert Ellsberg. We are listening to ‘Monastery Bells' from Smithsonian Folkways today My thanks to the Smithsonian team for all they do to support the show. My thanks to Robert Ellsberg for his time today. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Maria: Hey! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our community's questions :) I'm a Vata body type 29 year old woman currently working on healing my adrenal fatigue. I have elevated levels of cortisol in the PM and low cortisol in the AM. Unfortunately, I don't do very well with adrenal soothe due to histamines. I've tried it several times but it just doesn't agree with me. Any other alternative that you recommend? I can't take adrenal support in the morning because I already suffer from anxiety (funny given that my AM cortisol is low). Sleep is good, I track it with my Oura ring and take magnesium, DNS, omega 3, daily probiotic & vitamin D everyday. Maria: Sorry me again! I forgot to mention that I decided to take a break from heavy lifting and just stick to 10k steps every day and Workout 3x a week with resistance bands only. BMI 21 & 15% body fat percentage. I was doing a lot of sauna but I read that it might not be the best right now as it can be a stressor to my body. What are your thoughts? My workouts are not as intense so I don't really sweat. Sauna is the only option I have…After running the hormones test with your team, all of my hormones are also on the lower side (including estrogen). So I don't want to push my body too hard. Jenna: Do you think that drinking pomegranate juice has more benefits or more downsides? I know drinking any juice without the fiber of the fruit will spike blood sugar, but I also know pomegranate is great for antioxidants. Would you recommend drinking this? (maybe in small amounts?) Darren: Hey Dr Cabral. Wishing you, your family and Equi Life team all the best in the new year. By the time you get this it'd likely be finished but this question is for future reference. I got the Equi Life Activated B Complex, Activated Multivitamin and DNS recently. I looked at the daily value percentages and was wondering if it was possible to take 1 capsule instead of 2 suggested for the B Complex and 2 instead of 4 capsules suggested for the activated multivitamin. I'm trying to stay healthy and do what's right while still keeping budget but I'd do what's right if I actually have to do the suggested number. Also with regard to the DNS, is there any reason why it has added sugar in the ingredients? Is it for a particular reason or merely for taste? Christina: Are infrared sauna and proteolytic enzymes (taken on an empty stomach) safe when you have breast implants? Thank you for the wonderful information provided in your podcasts. Christina: When I exercise or do a physical activity requiring more oxygen, I have to yawn to bring in the oxygen that I need. Otherwise, I feel like I am not getting enough oxygen. Is this normal? Thank you for all your help and advice. (07:32) We look at a review in 2018 By British Journal of Nutrition: Effects of pomegranate supplementation on exercise performance and post-exercise recovery in healthy adults: a systematic review (British Journal of Nutrition (2018), 120, 1201–1216 doi:10.1017/S0007114518002696 © The Authors 2018) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30350760/ (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30350760/) The studies chosen examined either the effects of POMEGRANATE intake on exercise performance and/or exercise-induced fatigue, soreness, muscle damage, oxidative stress, inflammation and cardiovascular function. Initially they had a pool of over 900 studies and selected 11 that met their review criteria. The review looked at; Effect of pomegranate on · acute and delayed physical performance · muscle strength recovery · muscle fatigue, pain and soreness · delayed onset muscle soreness - DOMS Effect of pomegranate supplementation · on acute and delayed muscle damage responses · oxidative stress responses · on inflammatory responses · on cardiovascular parameters All of which would be of interest to an endurance runner. Findings indicate that POMEGRANATE has the potential to: · enhance endurance and strength performance · advance post-exercise recovery · improve cardiovascular responses during and following exercise The researchers also point out that positive effects of POMEGRANATE supplementation of juice are more likely when; · POMEGRANATE juice contains >0·7g total polyphenols/0·5 litre · When large muscle mass exercise is engaged · When POMEGRANATE juice is consumed at least 60 min before exercise Additionally the review suggests, the inclusion (750ml/d) of polyphenol-rich POMEGRANATE in the diet of active people prior (60 min) and after exercise (during 48h) could be beneficial for their physical performance and muscle recovery during and following exercise. They also point out that further research is required to assess how chronic POMEGRANATE supplementation (that means consuming it consistently over a long period of time) impacts the physiological and performance adaptations to exercise training. That type of research may to help optimise POMEGRANATE supplementation guidelines for a range of exercise settings. (12:44) The key nutrients in...

Bilal Zaidi is the host of one of my favorite podcasts, Creator Lab. We explored the genesis of his podcast and the connections it drew between his influences from Pakistani, the UK, and the US. We dove into some of the patterns Bilal has discerned from interviewing CEOs, investors, and writers. We also compared experiences growing up Pakistani in the UK and the US and some of the surprising differences.
Pomegranates are easy to grow in desert climates since they originated from the warm arid climates in in Central Asia. Did you know there are about 640 varieties of pomegranates and those grown for their fruit can ripen them anywhere from late summer to midwinter. The fruit "skin" can range in color from lemon yellow to pink to red to purple. The juice can be sweet or "puckery". The seeds can be range from chewable to "spitable". "Wonderful" pomegranate is the most common variety grown in the US and known for its tart juice and hard seeds.Support the show (https://xtremehorticulture.blogspot.com/)
That ongoing discussion about liquid that unintentionally comes out from fruit on Shabbat... Blood is also one of the liquids that can grant the food it comes in contact with (!) the capacity to become impure. R. Akiva is more stringent for the milk, over the blood. What do intentional and unintentional mean, in this context? What about other fruit (berries and pomegranates, for example)? And how do our expectations of what the fruit will be used for (to be squeezed for juice or not, for example) affect the bottom line psak? Again, the categories here are more than they appear to be, with more sub-descriptions and distinction. Note the focus on R. Menashye ben Menachem - is that too much emphasis on the practice of an individual, or is the halakhah that individualized? An example from the thorns in the fields - kilayim or not (well, are you in Arabia or not). The tension here is about a difference of opinion, a difference of practice, and an individual vs. the larger population. Plus: the statistics of it - and what point does the standard of practice change?

Kim Kardashian vs Jack in The Box In Food News this week, the most famous person in the world, Kim Kardashian tweeted to Jack in The Box about something she saw at one of their locations. She didn't want to "fully put them on blast" so she told them to DM her. In response, multiple other fast food outlets used this opportunity to tweet their Jack in The Box takes at her. This included Wendy's, Burger King, and Hooters. Check out a roundup of the best tweets here Human Cheese The Victoria and Albert Museum in London took cultures from multiple celebrities to make cheese out of them. This included Chef Heston Blumenthal's crotch DNA to make actual "Fromunda Cheese." Currently, these cheese's are being tested to see if they are edible, but regardless they are on display at the V&A currently. I told Tom that I think this is the first step into human cloning. When history looks back at where cloning started, they won't look at Dolly the Lamb, but rather at this exhibit which was meant to show bacteria in a different light. Source New Coke This July 4th, The third season of Stranger Things is going to be released on Netflix. It was an instant hit full of 80's Nostalgia, compelling storylines, and great acting. Every season progresses in time and highlights what was going on in then-current events. Last season there were Reagan/Bush and Mondale/Ferraro signs in front of multiple houses. This season, everybody is drinking New Coke. New Coke was created to be sweeter and smoother, but everybody hated it. The complaints about the new product were like nothing Coca-Cola had ever anticipated. They brought back "Classic" Coke and sold both products together for some time, eventually renaming "New Coke" to "Coke II" but took the product off the shelves silently in 2002. Coke has teamed up with Stranger Things to bring back New Coke for online sales and in select vending machines and retail stores. This is one of many partnerships that Stranger Things and Netflix have set up for this summer, others include H&M and Baskin Robbins. The director's twin brothers Matt and Ross Duffer said no money exchanged hands with Coke, but they did get to direct the newest Coca Cola commercial Source 8 Grilling Tips For The Summer "I truly believe that 95 Percent of People in the United States don't know how to grill" - Tom Miale Turn on your grill and walk away, if your grill isn't hot things will stick to your grill Make sure your grill is well seasoned use High Temp Pam Spray, if you don't have that you can put vegetable oil on a paper towel and use your tongs to rub them down Don't keep the temperature on high the entire time. You have to create heat zones on your grill Use your meat thermometer and pull your meat off the grill 5 degrees before they hit their ideal temperature. Tent them in foil and let them cook through in about 5 to 10 minutes Sear steaks on a hot grill, you want to create a crust on the outside. For chicken, you want to sear them quickly and then move it onto a less hot area to cook through When saucing your items, wait until the end when you have about 1 minute left of cooking, brush your bourbon barbecue sauce onto the food and put them back on the high heat You can also add sauce right after you take something off the grill. Salsa Verde slathered on top of a steak and then wrapped up in foil. This allows the steak to absorb the Salsa Verde and mix in with it. You can also take dry rubbed chicken wings off the grill and then just do a quick toss in Buffalo or BBQ Sauce Clean Up: When you're done cooking, close the lid and turn the heat all the way up to burn whatever is left on the grates. You can brush it down with a wire brush, and next time you grill you'll be ready to grease down the grates and start up again! Mike's Bonus Tips: You can only grill as good as your surroundings will allow you to. We all know about Mise En Place, but the Memorial Day Weekend Mis En Place is very different. While grilling you have only 2 options for audio. 1 is Jon Sterling and Suzyn Waldman giving you the Yankees Play by Play, 2 is WCBS.FM The NY Oldies Station. Hopefully, they will be playing "Brandy(You're A Fine Girl)" by The Looking Glass. Tom's Famous Bourbon BBQ Sauce You’ll Need:1 medium onion, finely chopped2 garlic cloves, minced3/4 cups of bourbon (DO NOT USE EXPENSIVE BOURBON. If you do, I will personally come over and slap you, then take your whiskey. I usually use nothing better than Bulleit)2 cups of ketchup3/4 cups of dark molasses1/2 cup white sugar1/4 cup brown sugar1/3 cup white vinegar1/4 cup tomato paste1 tsp of Cholula hot sauce (less if you want it to be less spicy; none if you just want a sweet sauce)1/4 cup Worcestershire Saucepinch of salt (to taste) Combine the first three ingredients into a saucepan over medium heat. Cook for 5 minutes or until the onions start to soften and turn a bit brown. Add everything else into the pan. Turn up the heat until you see the sauce bubble (keep stirring so it doesn’t burn). Once it starts to bubble, turn the heat down and simmer for 15-20 minutes more, making sure to stir often. I use a silicone spatula to make sure the bottom doesn’t burn. There are a lot of sugary elements in the sauce, so keeping it from burning by constantly stirring is extremely important. Strain the sauce to remove the chunks. Slather on everything Eat. Our episode starts with another refreshing segment of "Alcoholics Says", featuring a very loud drink, apparently newly invented by Luc. It's not very good, but perhaps better than its name suggests. You'll understand if you listen. Then in Foody Goody, we continue our long-delayed "What Am I Eating: Liquid Edition" contest, which T-bone hosts with more flourish than usual in an effort to give us a sense of the drink's texture. Play along and see if you can guess what T-bone is quaffing, and to whom. And how is pudding gargled? Tell us your experience by email (maskedman@limitedappeal.net). Welcome to season 3! (3) We are at least as surprised as you are that our podcast has, to date, featured such an unlimited number of ridiculous topics and equally ridiculous perspectives on them. We'll be equally surprised if the 10,000th download gets anything in the mail. Meh. We start our third season with Round 2 of "What Am I Eating?": Liquid Edition. Just as in Round 1, each of us will eat something (er, drink something) and the others need to guess what is being drunk, and to whom. Why, you ask? Good point. Anyway, our guesswork is a bizarrely satisfying exercise if you like pointless reacharound-directed contests. If you do, stay tuned for the continuation of our contest in a future episode. If not, hopefully you like a bit of disappointment. Send us your responses by email (maskedman@limitedappeal.net). Theme music courtesy of General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners and Ipecac Recordings.
