In this episode, Dr. Ralph Moss and Ben Moss break down the battle between competing cancer theories, why conventional wisdom is being challenged, and what the latest research is uncovering about cancer stem cells, metabolism, and the Warburg Effect.

In this pivotal episode, Dr. Moss and his son, Ben, shed light on new insights into Vitamin D's role in cancer prevention, based on data from a study published in 2019. While the original research concluded that Vitamin D had no significant impact on cancer incidence, a meticulous reevaluation of the same data has revealed something crucial: Body Mass Index (BMI) plays a significant role in the effectiveness of Vitamin D supplementation for cancer prevention. Specifically, those with a 'normal' BMI showed a significant reduction in the incidence of advanced and metastatic cancers. Dr. Moss and Ben explore why these game-changing results haven't received the media attention they deserve and what this could mean for natural cancer prevention strategies. Based in the Chicago area for over 40 years ago, Block and his wife, Penny Block, PhD, innovated the use of the best of “alternative medicine” for cancer treatments combined with standard practices of the time. Fast forward to today and he has established himself as a preeminent scholar on the use of foods and food supplements for cancer in combination with conventional treatments. Antioxidants in particular have been the source of considerable disagreement in the scientific community, with some doctors claiming that they undermine the effectiveness of conventional treatments. However, Block has shown through his scholarly research and his own medical practice that there is no pattern of a negative impact on patients' health, and in fact, show a variety of profound benefits. The  Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment in Skokie fights cancer by addressing the underlying molecular accidents that initiate and support it. A recognized pioneer in integrative cancer treatment, the Block Center sets the standard in the U.S. for the integration of science-based strategies that, together, can help you beat the odds and put “life over cancer” (the title of his book).  Block is a graduate of the University of Florida in Gainesville and the University of Miami School of Medicine in Coral Gables. He did his residency at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. He was a disciple of Robert S. Mendelsohn, MD, author of Confessions of a Medical Heretic. Block is the founding editor-in-chief of the medical journal, Integrative Cancer Therapies, and is the author of 94 PubMed-indexed journal articles.

Nagourney's strategy takes a step away from genetic sequencing. By taking a biopsy of a tumor, he claims to be able to deduce what treatments will be effective for an individual. Also in this episode is a discussion about repurposed drugs for cancer treatment, including the use of Metformin.  Robert A. Nagourney, MD, is Medical and Laboratory Director of The Nagourney Cancer Institute in Long Beach, California, and an Associate Clinical Professor, at the University of California Irvine. He is board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and hematology. In this episode of The Moss Report Podcast, Mary Hardy, MD, and David Wales, talk with our host, Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D. about recent research on an unusual treatment: fermented wheat germ extract (FWGE).  Recent research has shown FWGE can reduce the abnormal metabolism of cancer cells. This raises the prospect that FWGE might heal cancer cells by reversing the “Warburg Effect,” thus converting a glucose-fermenting cell back into a normal cell.  The research into wheat germ has a long history and a promising future, as scientific papers show verifiable results and FWGE becomes more widely available.  Mary Hardy, MD, is board-certified in internal medicine and a specialist in botanical and integrative medicine. She has been combining complementary and alternative therapies with Western medicine for over thirty years in both her clinical practice and research projects. She also has a long-standing interest in patients who have shown exceptional responses during cancer care.

Thomas N. Seyfried, Ph.D., is the author of “Cancer as a Metabolic Disease,” a work that has revolutionized our understanding of cancer metabolism. Prof. Seyfried's 45 years of laboratory work has revived Otto Warburg's thesis that cancer is a disease of the mitochondria, the energy-generating part of the cell. Prof. Seyfried has devised unique animal models to explain the processes of inflammation, blood vessel formation, and lipid biochemistry. He is also mainly responsible for the renewed interest in calorie restriction, fasting, and ketogenic diets. In the process, he has waged war against the faltering dogma that cancer is a genetic disease. For more information, visit themossreport.com
