But is this threat really a metaphor for Communism, or is it meant to represent Senator Joseph McCarthy and the Red Scare? Perhaps the only thing we have to fear is fear itself, or at least that's somewhat the stance of our second film, THE BLOB (1988), directed by Chuck Russell, itself a remake of another 1950s Cold War metaphor. Of course, this is the 80s, and so Reagan is bound to come up a few times. From the early days of the Cold War to the final days, how has America's shifting views of the Soviet Union affected the media we create? S1:26 #throwback: Mike C. Manning is an Emmy-winning American actor, producer, reality television personality and activist. Manning gained fame as a cast member on the MTV series The Real World: D.C. before subsequently embarking on an acting career, appearing in a number of films and television programs, such as the 2014 Disney Channel original movie Cloud 9, in which he played Nick Swift, Hawaii Five-0, Love Is All You Need? (2016), Teen Wolf, The Call, Son of the South and Days of Our Lives. As a producer, his work includes the documentary Kidnapped for Christ, and The Bay, which won the 2020 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Digital Daytime Drama Series. Additionally, Manning won the 2021 Daytime Emmy Award Outstanding Performance By a Supporting Actor in a Daytime Fiction Program for his performance as Caleb McKinnon. Lindsey and Mike became friends long before Hollywood and shortly before his TV career started in 2009 when Manning publicly came out as bisexual. In his pre-show interviews, Manning described himself as a "pile of contradictions," and indicated that his time in D.C. would be a turning point for him and the question of whether his family would accept his sexuality. Since the show, Mike has stated that being on The Real World: DC helped him to realize the power of television to help influence public opinion and create social change, and was ultimately a large part in his decision to help found the production company Lucky Mann Productions. In this interview, I have a conversation with renowned director Jeremiah Kipp who directed the Shudder Original, "Slapface" (2022) Synopsis: A boy deals with the loss of his mother by creating a dangerous relationship with a monster rumored to live in the woods. Plot Summary: After the death of his mother, Lucas, a loner who lives in a rundown home with his brother Tom, regularly seeks solace in the nearby woods. With his only "friends" being a group of female bullies, he keeps to himself most of the time. After a strange encounter with an inhuman monster, Lucas begins to withdraw from others. The two reach a tentative trust and the boy is swept up in a series of primal adventures. A bizarre friendship is born. When violence and carnage begin to follow the witch, Lucas must try and stop his new friend from killing again, but is it her he really needs to stop? Meanwhile, Anna, an outsider in their small town, becomes romantically involved with Tom and grows increasingly concerned about the welfare of Tom's little brother. Plus, Sheriff John Thurston, has a history with Tom and Lucas' deceased mother and feels a responsibility to look out for the well-being of her orphaned children. Essentially, the witch is the young boy's own manifestation from being abused by his older brother. Additionally, Jeremiah made the notion that there will be a sequel to this movie possibly after his new and upcoming project. This was a great interview and I learned a lot from what Jeremiah said and I will absorb and cherish this discussion.
