Playlist:Charli xcx, Bon Iver - I think about it all the time featuring bon iverFred again...,SOAK - just stand thereKieran Hebden - ؞ؙؖ⁽⁾اv)) ̷̨ʅv؞ؙؖ⁽⁾ا (55"Swimming Paul, Thals - All My FaultJorja Smith - Little Things (Floating Points Remix)Baiuca, Felisa Segade - BarulloJamie xx, The Avalanches - All You ChildrenGanges - PRÍNCIPEDua Saleh - chi girlBiig Piig - DecimalEmpress Of - LoudLa Femme - Clover ParadisePet Shop Boys - Everybody will danceObongjayar - Just My LuckSans Soucis - Dancing On ThisArca, Tokischa – ChamaEscuchar audio
John is joined by Kieran Hebden, better known as Four Tet, to talk about how he wrote, recorded and produced the album ‘Three', along with a selection of his other work. Following his start in music writing and recording as part of post-rock band ‘Fridge', Kieran released his debut solo album as Four Tet ‘Dialogue' in 1999. Since then, his constant experimentation and blend of hip-hop, jazz, krautrock, electronica, dance, and folk have seen him become one of the most innovative producers of today. He has released twelve albums as Four Tet, remixed artists like Radiohead and Bjork, and collaborated with Burial, Fred Again and Skrillex, among many others. Sitting down together, Kieran breaks down his production journey and writing process, sharing the samples at the core of each track and reflecting on his approach to the most important element, the arrangement. Digging into the production details, he shares tips on keeping loops alive, making kicks pop, and the subtle textures that help place a track in its own world. English electronic musician Kieran Hebden has been a constant artist in my life's history of listening to music.Recently, the artist has exploded in popularity in his DJ partnership with Skrillex and Fred Again.., but as we'll discuss, headlining Coachella this year, was just a natural culmination of two decades plus of music making and collaborations. On this week's episode it is all about the music of Four Tet.We discuss his origins in the Elliott School with fellow now-famous musicians Burial and Hot Chip, the formation of his first band Fridge, who signed their first record deal when Hebden was just 15.We take you through an output that moves from jazz, folk, electronica stylings of his early work, the seminal album Rounds from 2003, his subsequent collaborations with Burial, Steve Reid, remixes work for the likes of Madvillain and Caribou, and how his live show worked. // On Wednesday November 8th, we are putting on a Listening Party at the Big Romance playing Four Tet's Rounds (2003) in full, as part of the Listen Closely monthly series. And onto his independent releases throughout the last 15 years as his music moves from the ambient instrumental electronic music to the more club-focused 4/4 tracks that came about as he began to DJ at Plastic People and DJ at festivals around the world. We discuss his court case with Domino, and how his flirtations with remixing pop artists telegraph his bromance with Fred Again.. and Skrillex. Plus, we spotlight some of our favourite Four Tet / KH / Kieran Hebden Percussions tracks. The Accompanying Four Tet playlist for the episode* Support Nialler9 on PatreonListen on Apple | Android | ACAST | Patreon | Pocketcasts | CastBox | Stitcher | Spotify | RSS FeedShow notesSongs played on the Nialler9 Podcast Spotify Playlist Hosted on Acast.

Is the second song on an album that record's best? Kieran Hebden was at the fore of a new wave of music in the 00's and the first single from the acclaimed album Rounds, also happens to be it's second track.

Hip-hop guru Madlib finds rhythm in everything he touches or hears. Back in 2018, Madlib sent electronic apostle Kieran Hebden, a.k.a. Four Tet, 350 pieces of music that the DJ-producer then whittled down to forty minutes to produce their album “Sound Ancestors.” Today we share a short and sweet track to bid farewell to 2021 with “Riddim Chant.”
Kieran Hebden is one of the most uniquely talented UK electronic artists working today. He's produced a wonderful stack of LPS and a remixed some of the best, from Aphex to Radiohead to Jamie Lidell. He's walked an unconventional path but the seemingly strange choices of gear and methods he's landed on are all very much considered. He is literally building a physical line of records that will stand as his legacy and that's at the forefront of his thinking. There's this drive to be finishing music and finding ways to keep inspired and making the whole thing feel free and live. He finds an amazing balance in his work between meticulousness and chaos. The collaborations with Jazz legend Steve Reid in particular showed how live electronics could be just that. LIVE! Messy, ever changing and satisfyingly intense. Unsurprisingly, he works best outside the traditional music making spaces, favouring his home and small, manageable setups over the monster rooms. Minimal amount of gear but huge amounts of vinyl!!!! We toured the states in 2005. I was opening for Kieran and it was a hell of a run. I've very fond memories of that time. He's a super smart and warm man that is the only person I know that plays cool edit like a violin.

Anna graduated from the RCA in 2015 and holds a BA from Central Saint Martins. In 2017 she won Griffin Art Prize and the Young Contemporary Talent Prize supported by the Ingram Collection. . . She has been shortlisted for several prizes, including The London Group, in 2013, where she was presented with a prize by Frank Bowling. In 2019 her show Muscle Memory at Elephant West in London saw a collaboration with musician and friend Kieran Hebden also known as Four Tet drawing on grief, movement, vibration and memory. . . Anna describes painting as attitude. Painting serves as a physical intelligence and makes the most sense when described in relation to the body and often come out of chaos. Her Ukrainian grandmother used to say: “If it wasn’t all lies it would be the truth"
My guest is a master of the dark arts. A minimalist with a big sound. A pioneer and a deeply clever chap. He's an audio visual mash man that's got tasty taste. A rare combo! Some may be aware of the music master mind that is William Fields but to those of you that don't know him he's very much needing to be on your radar. I got into a small side road ramble whilst in conversation with Richard Devine on EP 57 and we were talking about limitations in eurorack for sequencing and how he wanted to get into using a computer with algorithmic composition tools to vastly expand the possibilities. I asked him if there was anyone out there making any listenable algorithmic shit and he told me of William Fields and the rest is history. Get over to Williams FieldsOS page on band camp NOW! There's 24 tracks up there that are.. get this. 59 mins long EACH . WTF? https://williamfields.bandcamp.com/album/fieldsos Long form expert explorations of a style. One is called Footwork, another UK Garage and then there's the fantastically bonkers Unconstrained. It's mind boggling stuff and I wanted to know what the hell was going on so ... Stay tuned! Thanks to all of you for grabbing it! I hope it brings you some funk! It's still very much available. _____ So sad to hear about Bill Withers. It's just one that weighs heavy on me. What a singular talent, what an example of a pure soul. The honesty just shines through in his work. Hit me hard. RIP Bill. I felt inspired to try and make my own humble tribute to the man. I reached out to my friend in hiding, Chancey and he immediately had bass and guitar recorded for the song. I've actually since had my neighbour across the street, Rob Burger add some additional keys There MIGHT well be a special guest making a string arrangement in a month. Fingers crossed. I've been really moved by the speed of response out there to this idea. Everyone's been amazing. Here's the video of the song: https://bit.ly/2Re8Tax _________ Today's nitty is a first for this show. After 134 weeks of making this thing I've gone and made a video for the nitty. A viddy nitty if you will. It's a tear away from the recent sample pack video I made. A few people liked the motor piano clip so I figured I'd try an expanded idea emerging form that little seed. I have been trying to keep productive in my evenings which is when I get to work. I apologize for the slackness getting this show out but I've been trying to get my head around lots of things im no good at! My wife is an incredible visual artist. She's long been a professional photographer so we have lots of good cameras in the house but its definitely HER world. Anyway after the sample pack vid I started the journey on the video making road. VIDEO HERE! https://youtu.be/po7vPCa-t8E First of many hopefully! Thanks for joining me folks. Likes, Camera, nitty!
There are very few producers that I rate as highly as Four Tet. Over the past 20 years , Kieran Hebden has managed to pretty much tick every box that matters musically. He makes records that so many of us love, that you can listen to at home, that slam at a partyand he seems to have done it all with grace, composure and a quiet confidence. I loved this conversation, and its really worth listening to.Kieran is very thoughtful and deliberate and I found it very inspiringIt should be noted that this show was recorded in January of 2020, in a world that seems barely recognizable now.We covered a lot of things: Ricardo Villalobos, rewinds, Burial, the feeling of being a teenagerand went through his career highlights, and we did it all like two friends without a care in the world, sitting there at the beginning of what was then a fresh year.Excuse the fact i was kinda jacked up on the limitless possibilities of 2020, obviously now everything is different. It's quite a long conversation, but hopefully it gives you 90min of an escape as you can hear two friends talking about DJing, music and life.this is…. Last Party on Earth. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

BANDCAMP: https://bit.ly/2EcjjQL Day of the Locust by Jon Averill 3/3/16 London United Kingdom 1. Frank Sinatra - Empty (Extract) This podcast began after a conversation about how overrated I thought Frank Sinatra was. As if to prove myself wrong I shone a spotlight into the darker area of his back catalogue. 2. Fridge - Cut Up Piano & Xylophones Polyphonic probing from Kieran Hebden, Adem Ilhan, & Sam Jeffers. Recording as Fridge back in 2001. 3. Perdita - Rubber City This sounds like it's from a David Lynch film, because it is; Wild at Heart from 1990. 4. HomeSick, Silkersoft & Keight - Faraway Suede Fresh beats recorded at this year's Red Bull Music Academy in Paris. 5. Sinoia Caves - Elena's Sound-World From the soundtrack of Beyond the Black Rainbow, a queasy & uneven retro styled sci-fi film from 2010. 6. Iggy Pop - The Endless Sea Relatively restrained & nuanced balladeering. Endless Sea is from 1979. Which is the last time Iggy Pop wore a shirt. 7. Donald Byrd - Cristo Redentor (Loop) I looped the intro of this track (which also appears on podcast 18) to serve as underpinning for the next. 8. William S. Burroughs - From Here To Eternity A caustic, sardonic piece from Burrough's collection of short stories; ‘Exterminator' from 1973. 9. Thomas Leer & Robert Rental - Day Breaks, Night Heals Proper fuzzy, nasty electronic resonance from 1979. Man music. 10. Vangelis - Le Singe Bleu Been listening to Van the man's pre Blade Runner output a lot recently. This is from 1973's L'Apocalypse des Animaux. 11. Lee Hazlewood - The Nights Hazlewood is the grizzled troubadour who documented the fast disappearing American frontier. We play a lot of Lee on this podcast so much so I actually had to search back through the previous 62 episodes to make sure this track hasn't already been used. 12. P-Model - Kameari Pop Amazing freaky outlandish electropop from Japan circa 1979. 13. Dave Clarke - Splendour Crunchy tractor hip-hop from techno stalwart Dave Clarke showcasing the power of the loop. 14. Gareth Anton Averill - Little Palace Horns Another track recorded at this year's Red Bull Music Academy. Familiar name too. 15. Alan Vega - Love Cry This continues the outsider art template Vega created in Suicide alongside Martin Rev. 16. Moritz Reich - La Fabrique des hommes tristes: Ouverture French melancholy from frenchman Moritz Reich. 17. Frank Sinatra - Empty Is Frank returns to complete one of the more interesting songs in his cannon. I'm still not fully sold though. 18. Laraaji - Zither Dance Apparently discovered by Brian Eno. New age clanging & banging from Laraaji closes out this episode with a hypnotic zither melody. 19. Mare Street Band Recording A little post-script recording I made in Hackney that threatens to break into the Lambada at any point.
Whoever you are, and no matter what your musical preference, there is a good chance you have danced to a Kieran Hebden beat before now. The London man best known as Four Tet has done everything in his career, from glistening indie-licked electronica albums to pumping bass and garage mixes for Fabric via collaborations with Steve Reid and Burial, shows on NTS and plenty of club ready projects on his own Text label. We have long been a fan, and recently he played for us at Dekmantel Festival. The results were recorded and we present them to you here as our latest podcast. As you would expect, it is hard to put into words what the man aims for, and achieves, across the course of two hours, but suffice it to say it will surely be the most adventurous mix you hear for a while. From niche Indian music to classic house, dirty STL cuts to synthetic tech and Latin tinged funk, he stitches together a wild ride full of smooth left turns and dazzling curveballs that will make you want to loosen every limb in your body and shake till you drop. We already have done once back in early August, and now we surely will do again and again and again.
Four Tet’s Kieran Hebden explains why Silver Apples of the Moon by the American composer Morton Subotnick stands out for him as a classic of early electronic music. Author and journalist Rob Young provides some background to the work, which was created on a Buchla synthesizer at the San Francisco Tape Music Center, and conceived specifically for two sides of an LP.
An hour in the company of Kieran Hebden aka Fourtet, playing and reminiscing on the music of the late Steve Reid – includes a tremendous version of ‘Strings Of Life’. Download the podcast HERE See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
