Paul Davies is a theoretical physicist and Regents' Professor at Arizona State University. Paul works on quantum mechanics, astrophysics, and cosmology, with emphasis on the origin and early stages of the universe, the quantum properties of black holes and the nature of time. He is interested in the nature and origin of life – including extraterrestrial life – beyond Earth, and in complex systems. In this episode of Robinson's Podcast, Paul and Robinson discuss the second revolution in quantum mechanics. Among other things, they dig into the origin of quantum theory, how we should interpret it, various quarks of quantum physics, such as teleportation and entanglement, quantum computing, and more. Paul's recent book is Quantum 2.0 (Pelican, 2025).Quantum 2.0: https://a.co/d/0ckzsWavOUTLINE00:00 Why Quantum Mechanics?11:59 How Should We Interpret Quantum Mechanics?22:22 Complexity and Quantum Theory30:59 What Will Be the Next Quantum Revolution?39:59 The Next Generation of Quantum Technology?49:47 Can Quantum Teleportation Move Macroscopic Objects?52:47 Supercomputers vs Quantum Computers01:04:16 The Fine-Tuning Problem?01:12:37 Do We Have a Scientific Theory of Life?Robinson Erhardt researches symbolic logic and the foundations of mathematics at Stanford University, where he is also a JD candidate in the Law School.
Also dann: los geht's. How much power does the UK's fastest supercomputer use? This week, Technology Now returns to Isambard AI, the UK's most powerful supercomputer to find out how you run such a machine. We will explore how much energy it uses, how the system stays cool, and we ask if there are any planned future developments which could increase efficiency. Dr Emma Rose, Centre Manager for the Bristol Centre for Supercomputing, tells us more. This is Technology Now, a weekly show from Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Every week, hosts Michael Bird and Sam Jarrell look at a story that's been making headlines, take a look at the technology behind it, and explain why it matters to organizations. Anthropic has recently formed a strategic partnership with SpaceX to utilize the Colossus 1 supercomputer, significantly boosting its computational power to compete with rivals like OpenAI. This infrastructure deal allows the company to double usage limits for Claude Pro and Max subscribers, effectively removing the "usage walls" that previously frustrated software developers and power users. Alongside these capacity upgrades, Anthropic introduced a "dreaming" feature for AI agents, which allows them to autonomously organize and refine their memories during idle periods to improve long-term performance. The company also launched tiered premium plans reaching up to $200 per month, specifically targeting professional engineers who require high-volume, agentic coding workflows. These developments occur as the broader data center industry shifts toward innovative liquid cooling and on-site power solutions to handle the intense heat and energy demands of next-generation AI. Overall, the sources highlight Anthropic's transition from providing simple chatbots to deploying persistent, self-improving AI systems integrated into enterprise environments.

Today on Astronomy Daily: NASA's Artemis II mission is rolling back to the Vehicle Assembly Building today after a helium flow issue dashed hopes of a March launch. We cover the latest on what went wrong, what it means for the April window, and what happens next. We also have five more stories to get through: Perseverance just gained the ability to locate itself on Mars with GPS-like precision — no Earth assistance required. Scientists have published a daring plan to intercept interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS using a solar slingshot manoeuvre, with a launch in 2035 and a 50-year journey to follow. China's mysterious Shenlong space plane is back in orbit on its fourth mission, and we still know almost nothing about it. We run through this week's packed launch schedule — including Rocket Lab's hypersonic scramjet test flight happening today, and Firefly Aerospace's return to flight on Friday. And we close with a genuinely beautiful piece of science: researchers have used supercomputers to solve a 50-year-old mystery about how elements move inside red giant stars. What is Spaceborne Lunar? This week, Technology Now explore how, and why, you would put a supercomputer on the moon. We ask why anyone would want to put a supercomputer on the moon, we discover how one would go about doing such a thing, and we explore the benefits that this sort of extreme edge computing could bring. Norm Follett, Senior Director, HPE Global Technical Marketing, Space Technologies & Solutions, tells us more. This is Technology Now, a weekly show from Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Every week, hosts Michael Bird and Sam Jarrell look at a story that's been making headlines, take a look at the technology behind it, and explain why it matters to organizations. Google's Quantum Leap and the Advancing AI Frontier Guest: Brandon Weichert Brandon Weichert discusses Google's Willow quantum chip, which has achieved verifiable quantum advantage, surpassing supercomputers by a factor of 13,000. This breakthrough contrasts sharply with Microsoft's contested Majorana chip, which remains unproven. Weichert notes the rapid evolution of AI systems, including Grok and ChatGPT, each advancing in sophistication at an accelerating pace. He emphasizes that the future demands pairing artificial intelligence with quantum technology to unlock transformative computational capabilities beyond current limitations. 1941
Wes Ott covers today's top tech stories. Despite tariffs and market uncertainty, Apple's iPhone 17 preorders beat the previous year's. Geostationary satellites carry unencrypted information. Nvidia's tiny AI supercomputer goes on sale Oct. 15 for $3,999.
