Hi everyone, thanks for listening. Drop a line or two about the episode! Deewaar (1975) turns 50 this year. The Bachchan Coolies (Alok Sharma, Diptakirti Chaudhuri and Shiva Krishnamurthy) are back to celebrate the film that proved to be a landmark film not just for Bachchan, Salim-Javed and Yash Chopra but Hindi cinema itself. In the 10th episode of the podcast we look back at one of the ground breaking performances of Shah Rukh Khan's illustrious career - Darr. The film also starred Sunny Deol, Juhi Chawla and Anupam Kher in important roles. Saahil and Saqib are both very fond of Darr and discuss many aspects of the film in this episode - including its timelessness. This film also provokes a more open dialogue on whether the late Yash Chopra glorified an antihero character played by Khan. The length of the podcast shows the passion this discussion invoked in both hosts. Episode also takes a deeper dive into the evolution of the protagonist vs antagonist debate through the prism of 90's hindi films and fandom. SRK remains the center of this episode as it was one of his most memorable performances. Last but not the least we compare it to some of the recent films where antihero characters are a bit celebrated.

We round things off with a discussion of Raj and DK's GUNS AND GULAABS starring Dulquer Salmaan, Gulshan Devaiah, Rajkumar Rao, Adarsh Gourav, and others before launching into our main review: 1993's PARAMPARA. Directed by Yash Chopra, this was Saif Ali Khan's debut film and it took us to many unexpected, half-remembered places. Starring Sunil Dutt, Vinod Khanna, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Raveena Tandon, Ashwini Bhave, Ramya Krishnan, and many others, this is the kind of Hindi movie that doesn't really get made any more. India Directed by Yash Chopra
Directed by Yash Chopra, with recreated music by the late, great Madan Mohan, VEER ZAARA (2004) is the kind of old-school Bollywood filmmaking you'd be hard-pressed to find today. Starring Shahrukh Khan as an Indian who falls in love with a Pakistani, played by Preity Zinta, and ably supported by a stunning cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Kirron Kher, Divya Dutta, and Zora Sehgal, Veer Zaara is a visual feast for more reasons than one. Join us as we dive into this movie and explore why it appears to have all but disappeared from pop culture, and how this might be that rare film that improves in hindsight. In this extra erratic and colourful episode, Nat takes Steph and Cristina on a journey into one of the most iconic Bollywood films from their childhood. There's lipsyncing, there's dancing, there's really melodramatic acting, a nonsensical love story, and best of all it's NOT Mamma Mia. In our annual Noirvember episode, we discuss two thrillers from the 1960s that maybe one could call noir, or neo-noir, or noir-ish... noir-esque? It's the millennium and Amitabh Bachchan is broke – but his good mate and director Yash Chopra gives him a role in upcoming movie Mohabbattein and in a one fell swoop, AB is back at the top - this time not as the leading man but the leading man's father. More iconic dad-roles follow that introduce the magnificence of the Big B to a whole new generation. This on-screen rebirth also sees Mr Bachchan spreading his wings and doing roles which have changed the course of mainstream cinema.

We’re changing things up a trifle in Episode 18 of the Khandaan Podcast – for the next few episodes, we’ve asked our guests to choose their favorite Khan movie to discuss. First up, is the delightful Sammy (a.k.a. [@lipstickpatrol](twitter.com/lipstickpatrol) on Twitter) with Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). Directed by Yash Chopra, this candy floss romance might barely have a plot but it has some stellar 90s tunes by Uttam Singh, an incredibly talented music director who seemingly disappeared in the years since this movie was released. Featuring some of the romantic tropes that have come to define the SRK brand of romance, this movie also won Karisma Kapoor a National Award for her role as Nisha, the best friend whose love remains unrequited. Surprisingly the only movie to star Madhuri as “A Yash Chopra Heroine”TM DTPH makes for some lively conversation between the hosts and the guest. As usual we also discuss a few new releases and trailers such as the upcoming Sui Dhaaga starring [Asim](twitter.com/asimburney)’s forever crush Anushka Sharma – once again facing a troll army online even as she excels onscreen. Asim also gives his quick thought’s on Netflix’ new 3 part horror series GHOUL starring Radhika Apte. Subscribers are reminded that Khandaan is currently accepting nominations for our special run. Please send your suggestions for movies of the Khans that you feel we must watch to upodcasting@gmail.com. Lastly, we ask subscribers to consider donating to a good cause: the recent devastating floods in the southern Indian state of Kerala has left many homeless with their lives destroyed. If you have any change to spare (even 10 bucks), please visit CMDRF to donate. If you would rather donate to private charities targeting specific groups such as pets, children, the environment, etc. please contact [@amritaIQ](twitter.com/amritaiq) on Twitter or contact [Upodcasting](upodcasting@gmail.com) and we’d be happy to match you up. Thank you.

On this episode of IVM Likes we have Mae, Amit and Sharanya in the studio. In our round of recommendations Mae recommends a gritty French flick that's been all the rage at film festivals, Amit recommends a series of fantasy books (who's surprised?) that are witty and adventurous, and Sharanya recommends a polarizing TV show based on a series of beloved comic books for teenagers. Later on the three of them discuss 'The Unforgivables' - basically one thing done by an artist that they otherwise love that is absolutely indefensible and unforgivable. (Psst!
