A look at 2 Chronicles 26. Uzziah and Yertle the Turtle.
Regardless of age and stage, every single person has a kingdom. We may not live in a castle, but we all use kingdom language: “No. That's mine. You've crossed the line.” We all have a kingdom, but kingdoms don't always last forever. Many times, the more we pursue and the harder we try to build our kingdom, the faster and easier it seems to crumble. Why is that? In part 2 of this series, we'll discover that when my kingdom becomes about me, it ultimately leads to my own destriction.

Every hero STARTS as a CHILD, and every Child can CHOOSE to become a Hero... Just like THIS one!I wonder, did you ever have a Wocket in your Pocket? Or try Green Eggs and Ham with Sam I Am? Did that crazy Cat in the Hat ever come to your house with his outlandish ideas and messy messes? Well, you might be interested to know that in 1904, long before your grandparents were born, there was a little boy named Theodore Giesel who loved drawing funny people and funny animals. His drawings even made him laugh after he finished drawing them. Today, you know Theodore by a different name. You see, he tried going to medical school because his parents wanted him to be a doctor, although he soon found out it just wasn't for him. But Theodore's funny drawings and silly stories he wrote to go along with them have helped many boys and girls learn to read! You know him as Dr.(To make his parents happy!) and Seuss (his middle name). We all love to laugh at his Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuz, and feel sad when the Lorax lifts himself because no one will listen, and get mad at the Grinch who would dare to steal Christmas! Can you believe there was a time when he first wrote a story and no book company wanted to print it?! But he did not give up. We would never have had Yertle the Turtle, or Horton and the Who, or the Parade along Mulberry Street if Dr. Seuss had not been determined to keep trying! He wanted to help children enjoy learning to read and make people of all ages smile. Yes, that little boy named Theodore kept on trying instead of giving up. That little boy truly became a HERO. He became Dr. Seuss! That's what I know about the beginning of This Hero, and I know that YOU Can Be a Hero TOO!Dear Parents, After years of development, trial, and revision, we are so excited to now share with you the most effective version yet of our Proactive Bully Prevention Program that has proven to "change the culture" at hundreds of campuses across America in profound ways. Yertle the Turtle by Dr Seuss Read Aloud Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories is a picture book collection by Theodor Seuss Geisel, published under his more commonly known pseudonym of Dr. Seuss. It was first released by Random House Books on April 12, 1958, and is written in Seuss's trademark style, using a type of meter called anapestic tetrameter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yertle_the_Turtle_and_Other_Stories
In Episode #65, we read Yertle the Turtle and discuss this great work's political, social, and economic importance. You heard me right. Dr. Seuss's Yertle the Turtle is a marvelous, thought-provoking piece of literature. A society where all the turtles are happy, well-fed, and enjoy personal freedom turned into an authoritarian nightmare. Thankfully a little Turtle named Mack knew all about peaceful protest. Listen as I read this classic 5-minute story and explore its profound meaning and lessons.

What must schools do to build caring and connected communities? What is student-driven learning? What learning challenges are authentic and real-world? What must schools do to help students become fully human? What does it mean that “school is in but class is outside”? How can schools help students and staff navigate the complexities of this age of acceleration? Why put Yertle the Turtle on trial? Today my guests are Wrayna Fairchild and Melissa Montoya, two charter school educators selected for the Hawaiʻi State Teacher Fellows program. To introduce them I am going to read the section of the Public Charter School Commission's newsletter announcing their appointments to the cohort. “The Hawaiʻi State Teacher Fellows Program brings together outstanding public school educators from across the state and provides teachers with peer and community engagement skills, tools to facilitate focus groups, along with communication and advocacy strategies. The program is run out of the Hawaiʻi Department of Education's Leadership Institute. The competitive applications process includes submission of narratives, recommendations and an interview. When asked why she applied for the Fellowship Program, Melissa Montaya (Kamaile Academy) said, ‘… I wanted to be a part of an organization that wants to elevate teachers, outside of my own organization. I believe in collective and collaborative teams, so I am beyond ecstatic to engage in opportunities that support public education on a larger scale. Hawaiʻi deserves a system that promotes excellence at all levels of education.' Wrayna Fairchild (Voyager Public Charter School) said she applied for the program, ‘because I want to further develop as a teacher-leader. I have been fortunate to take on a teacher-leader role at my school and have had the opportunity to participate in national teacher-leader cohorts. Applying to be part of this special group that supports education at the state level seemed like a great fit for me.' She added, ‘Hawaiʻi has some amazing, talented educators. By helping to connect these teachers, and working to support their classroom efforts, the practice of all is elevated.'” As always, our original theme music and post production is provided by Daniel Gilad of DG Sound Creations in Honolulu. Please stay safe, friends! Continue to wear your masks where required and please, please get vaccinated. Until next time, a hui hou! The post 67. We have only a few hours left before we say our goodbyes and Bobby heads back home. So this is the last time I’ll be able to teach him how to be a dad, in person. Before we continue our podcast and distant relationship through zoom, Bobby drops the bomb that he thinks I play the victim and I’m manipulative. I confess, I am manipulative but I only play victim in a joking manner. Being a comedian who has an absent dad, it’s hard not to heighten my abandonment issues and turn it into a comedic bit. We finally do the one father daughter activity Bobby has been dreading this whole time, reading me a bedtime story. Part of learning how to be a great dad is doing some of the things you don’t want to do and Bobby is accepting that’s part of fatherhood. So today, Bobby reads me Yertle the Turtle by Dr.Zeus. And don’t worry, there’s voices. Bobby gets passionate about the messages Yertle the Turtle provides, especially in relationship to the republican government. This episode is more than just a bedtime story. It turns into a history lesson about Tesla, the Akashic Records and clairvoyant Edgar Cayce. And to top it all off, Bobby describes a visit from his dead dad. And I thought my dad was distant? His came back from the grave. Now that’s a good dad. I become doubtful about our progress when Bobby brings up calling me sexy and Mr.Rogers again. If he didn’t remember that we already covered this, how is he going to remember what I teach him about how to be a dad? I don’t think we got everything done or even that I wanted to but I am practicing patients and realize that this is going to take a lot longer than a week. The footwear he sold was stacked floor to ceiling in boxes and there wasn’t a whole lot of room to sit in the shed but there was just enough. He had a couple of old kitchen chairs and a stool for the customers and he used a wooden box that he’d toe into place and perch himself on whenever he needed to measure your foot. His engineering of the box towers was a bit of a marvel as were the small curvy random aisles that led into the thick of it all. Charlie might disappear for minutes at a time in search of something – you’d watch as shoebox towers wobbled, decreased in size as he removed boxes out of them. But you always knew Charlie was there because he’d keep up his steady patter. There were times he had to leave the shed to find your shoes from the footwear overflow area inside the kitchen of the house. It was the same deal as the shed – shoes in their boxes stacked floor to ceiling. To see Charlie quick-stepping it out the house, over the boardwalk, and back into the shed, balancing a stack of shoeboxes in multiple sizes, colours, and different brands, was a real Yertle the Turtle situation - sometimes like watching the Italian plate spinners on Ed Sullivan. But it was no problem for Charlie – he balanced what needed balancing - and he kept the whole experience going at a mile and minute and always with a smile on his face… --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/peter-smith05/message

Dr Seuss makes his maiden appearance in these podcasts. Here, we examine what the difference is between real kingship and a rule which is there only to serve the self. Surprisingly, the real king is actually a servant. Or perhaps, not surprisingly, once we have realised that without his people to declare him as king, he is, in fact, nothing. And when this is paired with the day's trait - humility - we begin to see the beauty in the words of the Kotzker Rebbe concerning true broken hearts. Then we can take the message to heart.
Lore Folk is a podcast where we goof and jape about all things paranormal. Join hosts Aidan and Maddie as they discuss the cryptid status of Yertle the Turtle, what to do when your son starts producing precious metals from his ears, and how to bring a cryptid to life yourself.

Yertle the Turtle wanted to build his kingdom bigger and bigger so that he could rule more. You could say that he was trying to increase his territory. Every single one of us who is a believer has been given a territory. The question is, Are we using that territory for the ministry that has also been given to us or are we simply seeking more territory for our own gain? In 2 Corinthians Paul is writing to some people in his "territory" addressing the ministry we've all been given. We are challenged to do the same corporately as a church and individually.
This episode the boys get a little Seussian, as they talk Dr. Seuss’s Yertle the Turtle, which was first published in the early 1950's. At the center of the story is the Turtle King, Yertle the turtle. Though it may seem a mere children's book, there are some powerful lessons that the story can teach kids and adults alike. The episode unpacks a lot of information, we hope you enjoy!

This sermon from Michael Moorhead compares the well known Dr. Seuss story “Yertle the Turtle” a passage from Luke to share insights on wealth, greed, and the impact our possessions have on us. Parables, like children’s stories, are simple passages that allow the listener to connect based on their own experiences. Though simple, both include a deeper meaning meant to provoke consideration and thought. Here, Michael asks— do we own our possessions, or do our possessions own us? The answer may not be as simple as you think.
What do you think it would be like to be king or queen? QuestionsWhat was the King Turtle’s problem? What did he get wrong? What did he forget? How did the others feel? Was Jesus a king? What kind of king was he?What was he like as a king? What did Jesus say about being “in charge”? “Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,” (Matthew 20:26 NIV11) How did Jesus become a king? “They twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.” (Matthew 27:29 NIV11) We love Jesus because he is a king who died so we could live.We follow him because he is a king who serves us.His example inspires us to serve one another, to die to ourselves for the sake of others. So I didn’t care about trauma or PTSD until I realized I HAD it.” (On War:) “It’s all about trade and it’s all about territory.” “By the same standards that we executed Nazis…we did the same shit. The thing is, now that that generation is gone, these stories are STARTING to come out, but unfortunately they’re being seized on by the alt-right to rewrite the story of Hitler…come on, nothing takes away from what the Third Reich did.” “Every Boomer that didn’t become a rockstar, their kid was going to become a rockstar.” “There was a paper trail. They conclusively proved that Florida stole the 2000 election. We conclusively proved that Ohio stole the 2004 election. Didn’t matter. No one in the Baby Boom generation…would actually believe it. Because it called the whole system into question. And when you call the whole system into question, that’s a much larger conversation than, ‘No, your other party is the problem. It’s just those people.’” “Addiction science is progressing at light speed, but addiction understanding and comprehension is progressing like Yertle the Turtle. And what we know now is that it ISN’T a disease. It is neither chronic nor progressive. Addiction is a learned behavior more than anything else.” “Animals don’t need to hit the bottle because animals don’t suffer guilt. But humans do.” “We come out of this lineage, and we don’t even realize it’s there…” Referenced Media: • The Thin Red Line • Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers by Robert Sapolsky • The Body Knows The Score by Bessel van der Kolk • The Biology of Desire by Mark Levin • Living Light (Eartha Harris’ electronic music production project) • The Glass Cage: Automation and Us by Nicholas Carr See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Gospel According to Dr. Seuss-Week 2: Yertle the Turtle by Solomons Porch Valdosta
The eponymous Yertle, king of the pond, stands on his subjects in an attempt to reach higher than the moon—until the unhappy bottom turtle burps and Yertle falls into the mud, ending his rule. Though the book included "burp", a word then considered to be relatively rude, it was a success upon publication, and has since sold over a million copies. In 2001, it was listed at 125 on the Publishers Weekly list of the best-selling children's books of all time. This story is wonderfully read by Skidompha's good friend Anna Belknap in August 2016.
