Episode 028: Parents Crying in the Hair Salon – Wait... What?! The Influence Every Day Show with Dr. Ed Tori In this compelling episode, Dr. Tori dives deep into an unexpected revelation shared by a hairdresser: parents are increasingly shedding tears while watching their children in the hairdresser's chair. What's causing these tears? The answer may surprise you: it's not the haircut—it's the rare moment of uninterrupted eye contact between parent and child. Dr. Tori explores the profound implications of this moment, especially in a world where digital devices dominate our attention. He shares insights on how technology has shifted not just our work but also our relationships, and how we can combat the disconnection it creates by being deliberate in our interactions. Key Takeaways: Small talk as a powerful tool: How a simple analogy of a hallway full of doors can transform your conversations. Hairdressers and barbers as master conversationalists: Discover how their environment lends itself to deep human connection. The heartbreaking reason parents are crying: A shift in family dynamics caused by the omnipresence of screens and the lost art of eye contact. Technology's impact on relationships: Learn why it's essential to be intentional with our communication in an age of scrolling and distractions. The power of deliberate listening: How to recognize conversation gateways and avoid missing crucial moments with loved ones. Memorable Quote: "In the midst of a sea of rapid change, we should get really good at what doesn't change—how to influence others, how to build rapport, and how to cultivate deep relationships with those who matter most." Action Step: Take a moment today to put down your device and make meaningful eye contact with someone you care about. Be deliberate in your conversations and listen with intention. --- Support the Show: If you found this episode impactful, share it with someone who needs to hear it. In today's episode of Systematic Magic, we dive into one of Disney's most powerful but overlooked strategies: hidden details. From once-a-year Hidden Mickeys to pirate skeletons locked in an eternal chess match, Disney weaves storytelling magic into the smallest of moments. But here's the real secret: these details aren't just for show. They're designed to captivate a very special audience—the 1% who notice. And those superfans? They're worth their weight in gold. Tune in as Vance Morris breaks down why hidden details matter, how they create word-of-mouth marketing that no budget can buy, and how you can use this strategy in your own business. Whether it's adding unexpected touches, creating Easter eggs, or building stories within stories, you'll walk away with actionable tips to create a richer experience for your customers—just like Disney. What You'll Learn in This Episode: The role hidden details play in creating a deeper customer experience. Examples of Disney's hidden details, like the once-a-year Hidden Mickey and the stalemated pirate skeletons in Pirates of the Caribbean. Why focusing on the 1% of superfans who notice these details can amplify your business. How to apply Disney's strategy to your own business with surprise touches, Easter eggs, and storytelling. Key Takeaways: Hidden details aren't about being seen by everyone—they're about delighting the few who notice. Those superfans create a ripple effect, driving word-of-mouth marketing. You can implement this in your business with small, thoughtful touches that turn customers into advocates. Actionable Tips: Add a surprise freebie or handwritten thank-you note to your customer's next order. Hide a special offer or discount somewhere on your website or in your email campaigns. Share behind-the-scenes stories or fun facts about your business that give customers something new to discover. Memorable Quote: "It's not about everyone seeing every detail. It's about those who do—and the ripple effect they create. The 1% who ‘get it' become your superfans, and they'll tell the world about it." One of the things I love about the practice of cyclical planning and co creation is that it gives us the space to tune into wisdom before moving into action. If we dare to take that space - which could be days, weeks or months, we gain so many things really hard to see or believe if we are only operating in the busy mode of our day to day.  Things like:  Clarity on what matters .... where the momentum is... where it's not.  Acknowledgment of all the incremental progress we have made ... that's easy not to see or receive if we don't pause. Guidance that comes from a deeper wisdom than our minds can source.  Which is why I'm inviting you to take a breath, take a beat, and experiment with this practice I call Pause. Listen. Co-Create. It's one of the practices for' how' we create space for ourselves to evolve into the next, while sustaining the now, and releasing that which we no longer need. This is a practice we do every August - the first harvest of the year - but you can do it anytime. I will lead you through the 3 parts - 1.Incremental Progress - What are you harvesting now because of where you put your attention, intention and resources the last 4 months of last year? 2. Pausing - Reflect on the wisdom gained. What do you want to take with you / focus on into the rest of this year (this will create your harvest next year!)  3. Listening - What's falling off? What's shapeshifting? Where's the momentum taking you? 4. Co-Create - What space + structure do you need to experiment, explore and elevate?  I will also check in with you on where I've been in my own journey these last few months using this process to chart my course forward. See you there! Today's word of the day is 'default' as in what happened to Novak Djokovic as in he got the boot from the U.S. Open for hitting accidentally hitting a line judge in the throat with a tennis ball (:06). This was the story of the sports weekend. It's been quite the summer for tennis bad boy. Will this hurt The Joker from catching Roger Federer? I need to address something that happened last Thursday. We were wrong to jump on a story that we thought was credible and it turned out to not be. We're referring to the Penn State athletic doctor and his report on covid-19. It seems like there was confusion on the public's part and we reported on that (10:10). The one thing I will say is this was not political. It was commentary on what was happening. Review - Love (18:45). What has happened to the New York Yankees (23:30)? They have become a complete disaster recently. Currently sitting at the 8-seed. S.O.S! IF this team doesn't make an expanded postseason...... What else happened in baseball this weekend? Max Fried, hurt. Eric Hosmer, hurt. Javy Baez is very upset with not being allowed to use the replay-review system during games. Just another weekend in MLB. So You Wanna Talk To Samson (31:30)!? Someone asked me how Nationals GM Mike Rizzo could possibly be thrown out of a game for not wearing a mask IN A STADIUM SUITE! Let's talk about umpire Joe West. WOOF! Let's finish today's show talking about Lionel Messi (42:45). He announced that he will be staying in Barcelona for at least this final season on his deal. On the show today, Margaret Heffernan, serial entrepreneur, author and named one of the “Top 100 Media Executives” by The Hollywood Reporter, shows us how globalization and pervasive communication technologies have moved our world from one that was complicated to one that is highly complex – and much less predictable. To put it lightly, this change Impacts business where even small events can have a large impact. So, from a leadership perspective, how can you prepare for ‘how to think’ in this new emerging world? Margaret and I answer this question, share stories and discuss how leaders can develop a robust, resilient mindset to create community – the center of success. The recent pandemic has proven that this robust, resilient, and innovative thinking, and accepting complexity, is necessary for IT leaders to survive the unpredictability of this moment, tomorrow, and beyond. You have to accept the cost of redundancy and work that may turn out to look like waste. But, once you accept that you can't predict this stuff, you are so much better off having it in your back pocket, than having nothing at all in your back pocket when disaster strikes. Margaret Heffernan is the acclaimed author of six books. Her third book, Willful Blindness: Why We Ignore the Obvious at our Peril, was named one of the most important business books of the decade by the Financial Times. She was also awarded the Transmission Prize for her next book, A Bigger Prize: Why Competition isn’t Everything and How We Do Better. Her TED talks have been seen by over eleven million people around the globe; and her new book, Uncharted: How to Map the Future, to be published in September 2020, looks at the many diverse reasons why complexity is here to stay.   This is an amazingly relevant conversation that you just don’t want to miss! Here are some of things that you will learn in this podcast episode: Why is the world becoming harder to forecast? What’s the difference between a complicated vs. a complex environment? Why is it harder to lead in a complex world? What will the strategic requirements be to restart your workforce? What is ‘robust thinking’ and how does it relate to resilience? Why is it so important for organizations to take care of, and cultivate their unique ecosystem? Why is it important for organizations to remember that people are part of their infrastructure? Is efficiency and ‘running lean’ always the best choice for an organization? Why does IT understand redundancy better than other sectors?  How to Connect with Margaret Heffernan: LinkedIn     Twitter     Website  Blog Guest Bio Dr. Margaret Heffernan is a Professor of Practice at the University of Bath, Lead Faculty for the Forward Institute’s Responsible Leadership Programme and, through Merryck & Co., mentors CEOs and senior executives of major global organizations. The leadership has seen through protests in the mainland and Hong Kong that their people are starting to wake up and want freedom.  Remember the Statue of Liberty in Hong Kong. Their time to strike is now.  If they destroy the economy of the US and drive it into civil war they will dominate the world economically and militarily for the next generation. The CPC, and the globalists (communists) are behind the Antifa twits and BLM, the Democratic Party and many republicans. Their job is to destroy nationality in the US and meld it into the New World Order.  Useful idiots who will be the second group to go to the gulag after the people like us (if still alive). The United States will burn (and us by being next door) and be too distracted by internal issues to take on China. I would recommend to anyone who is listening to prepare to be as self sufficient as possible for two years.   From: Todd Subject: Kindle Andrew: Just to let you know Amazon recently deleted 1984 and Animal Farm from their Kindle lost.  Ironic. Oceana was always at war with East Asia......Good thing I have hard copies for my grandchildren.  Unless of course Fahrenheit 451 becomes a reality.... Todd   From: Corey Subject: Book Club Suggestions Good afternoon Canadian Patriot podcast, I have a few suggestions for the book club. First is titled "dangerous personalities" by Joe Navarro. It's more or less a guide on how to spot psychopaths and other dangerous personality traits. I believe it's a must read for everyone but especially for people in the dating scene. Second is titled "grow a pair" by Larry Winget. Larry Winget is a personal development author/speaker geared around taking personal responsibility. Grow a pair is in my opinion his best book. Hopefully these titles go with the book club theme you're going for. Have a good day, Corey   From: Richard Subject: FeedbackHi, I just started watching your show and I have to say that so far I love it. It's great to see proud Canadians who aren't afraid of the stigma that many people have towards patriots who at the same time hate libertarian values and want to make the central government stronger and more powerful with every passing day. I also love the Red Ensigns seen in the background. I plan to become a patreon donor soon. I would like to let you know about some of my comments and let you know my feedback regarding the show. I was wondering if Gavin could change his stream name to Gavin since Urbex_GTA seems a bit irrelevant to the show and its serious message. Also, to add a little more "spice" to the show, I was wondering if you could add or even just mention a short segment where somebody mentions an interesting Canadian history fact.   Best regards from a true Canadian patriot, Richard Partisan Challenge 45 minutes of exercise daily 10 minutes a day practicing a practical skill 15 minutes of reading, ideally non fiction 2 litres of water consumed 1 task a day to improve your comfort, standing or way of living Shilling Buy an Official Big Luau Shirt on Amazon so we get affiliate revenue Petitions https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2574 We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Prime Minister to immediately scrap his government’s May 1, 2020, Order in Council decision related to confiscating legally owned firearms and instead pass legislation that will target criminals, stop the smuggling of firearms into Canada, go after those who illegally acquire firearms, and apologize to legal firearms owners in Canada. Essentially You: Empowering You On Your Health & Wellness Journey With Safe, Natural & Effective Solutions

What we're talking about it this episode! Recognizing the connection between healing and self-love Why our physiology and our consciousness are inseparable How disassociating from nature could be causing disease Listening to your body and tuning into your intuition What you can do to connect the dots between your food and intuition   Episode Summary: Like many of us who have become passionate about our health and wellness, Razi Berry has overcome some great illness in her life, and because of that journey has been inspired to create a powerful movement to help women get to the root cause of their health concerns. Specifically, Razi uses her unique perspective to focus in on relationships and how they are impacting the ways in which your hormones and cells communicate. With an impressive resume to back her up, Razi’s passion lies around getting to the root cause of everything and anything when it comes to your health and wellness. By focusing on your relationship to yourself, other people and the world around you, you can find better ways to connect to who you truly are. In addition to finding your self-worth and listening to your body, Razi believes in the ultimate healing power of being connected to nature. When you spend time immersed in the natural world, it is processed in every cell in your body and sends signals throughout your brain and heart to coordinate health. This can increase your body's natural intuition and ability to heal. Through connecting to the earth, you are reconnecting the neural pathways to become more aware in your environment, and your own body. Our relationships and emotions play such a big role in our health and wellbeing. It is important to cue into your intuition and listen to your gut instincts to find true self-understanding. How do you feel about Razi’s approach to relationships and hormone connection? Let us know your thoughts on the episode page!    Quotes: “Your body is constantly giving you these messages of how to love her and how to take care of her. And when we're in our head all the time, we aren't listening to these body’s signals.” (11:17) “This is all just like a beautiful symphony of energy fields.
