In 1954, Dr Heinz Lehmann published the first clinical article on the use of chlorpromazine. Chlorpromazine was the first synthetic drug used to control states of mania and psychomotor excitement, marking the birth of modern psychopharmacology. Seventy years later, the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology is highlighting the anniversary of Dr Lehmann's publication. The January-February 2024 issue of the journal includes a guest editorial that offers a brief history lesson on Dr Lehmann's contributions. The authors of the editorial are Drs. Pablo Dutra, Richard Balon, and Antonio E. Nardi. In this podcast, the authors of the editorial are joined by a distinguished group of JCP Editorial Board members to discuss Dr. Lehmann's research and the many profound ways the research environment has changed in the past 70 years. Along with the authors, the podcast participants are Drs. Carl Salzman, Alan Schatzberg, Leslie Citrome, Matthew Byerly, John Davis, and Anthony Rothschild. Dr Julia Koretski, Digital Editor for JCP, leads the discussion. The guest editorial is published in the January-February 2024 issue of the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, in an article titled "Celebrating 70 Years of the First Publication on Antipsychotic Treatment in North America by Heinz E. Lehmann and Gorman E. Hanrahan: Would Their Methodology Still Be Conceivable?"

So many women struggle to get pregnant and there is so much information out there about the traditional western medicine ways to deal with the challenges. But what happens when these methods don't work? Meet author and world renowned creator of HypnoFertility, Lynsi Eastburn. Lynsi has been featured nationally on Lifetime Television Network, ABC and CBS News, on national and international radio programs including KOSI After Dark and has been a guest on Toronto's Breakfast Television and Canada's @Home morning show. As a child, Lynsi always loved babies and worried about people being able to have them. When she was nine years old, she remembers learning about the first "test tube" baby born in the UK. She carried on this passion into her profession and completed her research study at Regis University on Hypnosis as a Viable Treatment for Infertility. As the creator of HypnoFertility, Lynsi is the world's established expert in the field of hypnosis to promote fertility. She began using this method to facilitate pregnancy before anyone else had actively considered or pursued its benefits. Doctors and fertility clinics worldwide endorse Lynsi's program including Dr. Rob Kiltz and Dr. Maribelle Verdiales from CNY Fertility, Dr. Mark Bush from Conceptions Reproductive Associate and Dr. Dorothee Struck from Precious Pregnancies Germany. As infertility affects millions of people in the United States, Lynsi offers an alternative option to help. Lynsi works with the art and science of hypnotism to help clients access the necessary mind/body/spirit balance that helps them become parents. She has worked with thousands of people in their fertility journeys through her global practice. Through her private practice, 3Keys® HypnoFertility, Lynsi teaches others her own techniques to help those struggling with infertility to increase their chances for a healthy baby(ies). Lynsi is also the author of three books on HypnoFertility. She wrote her first book, It's Conceivable!, to inform people that hypnosis was a viable option to help one get pregnant. The 3 Keys to Conception, her second book, goes beyond the "art and science" of hypnosis and into Divine Feminine, spirituality, spirit babies. On May 24th Lynsi released a new edition of Waiting in the Wings: Introducing the Pink StarLights which explains the process of guiding unborn babies looking for their mothers. In this weeks episode I am doing something a bit different. I am reading two chapters from my book Conceivable. They explore men's typical relationship with emotions. I share this to encourage any men listening that they are not alone in their experiences and to help partners of men to understand a little more about what may be going on within their man. Get in touch: www.thefertilemind.net russell@thefertilemind.net About the Show: I help women and couples remove psychological blocks to getting pregnant. Based on my and my wife's 10 year fertility journey and the work of my clients I believe too many couples have IVF unnecessarily and that the success rate of IVF is unnecessarily low. We can see how much our mind and emotions played a part in our fertility journey and when we found a place of peace without giving up that's when the magic happened - we conceived naturally against all odds. I help me clients do the same - remove psychological blocks to getting pregnant naturally or getting the successful IVF outcome they so want. When I ask women what having a baby will give them they usually say a sense of completeness, love and purpose. It's our fear of not having these things, a fear of not being enough, worthy that tends to be behind our fear of not having a baby. These limiting beliefs have usually been around since an early age and infertility shines a spotlight on them. Many of my clients have strived for success in their life whether career or other things. That approach doesn't work for fertility. In fact it puts tension in the body which decreases their chances of success. The podcast is short does of insight, giving women and couples new perspectives that allows them to see their fertility from the ‘inside-out'. To see help them let go of their insecure thoughts and feelings and connect to their innate wellbeing that knows they are enough and OK whatever happens. This moves having a baby from being a 'need' to to a desire. It takes the pressure of the process and their mind and body relax into it's natural flow state. Stress can impact the delicate balance of hormones required for a successful pregnancy.

Feeling lost is something I hear a lot from my clients and people i speak to about their fertility struggles. The thing about being lost is that we are often looking for the way out, but before we can truly do that we have to know where we are. I discuss how we can do that, how we need trusted sources and once we know where we are we can get help to get to where we need to go, or help to know where we need to be going next. I also announce the launch of the new Conceivable digital programme You can get your hands on that here, and fo a limited time I'm trialing a free support option too (DEC 2022)

Stu Burguiere looks back at the presidency of Ronald Reagan and compares him and his administration to the presidency of Joe Biden today. How is it that we went from a champion of freedom and unity to a bumbling fool who can't struggle through a sentence to save his life? Very easily, actually. Then, Glenn Beck joins to expose the REAL radicals who are slowly gathering momentum behind the scenes. And, the story of a professional baseball player who's standing his ground for his rights. In this episode I chatted with Professor Geeta Nargund, an inspiring woman putting women first Medical Director at Creative Fertility about Natural and Mild IVF and getting the same success as conventional IVF with reduced treatment Burden, reduced complications and improved outcomes for babies. Before I started chatting with her, I wanted to let her know that I've been interested in what Create Fertility has been doing for a long time. It makes such a lot of sense to work with the body, to give a little nudge rather than the pressure physically and emotionally of the numbers game in IVF. You may not know about Mild/Natural IVF, along with so much so many don't know about fertility generally. Mild/Natural IVF produces the SAME success rates as conventional IVF, while reducing the treatment burden, side effect, complications, injections and costs. So its a win win and hard to understand why its not the norm in more clinics. We chatted about the benefits, research based evidence and this may open more opportunity for fertility for so many listeners. Professor Narunds passion for women's choices, rights and the desire to gain gender equality in fertility treatments is clear and inspiring. Ensuring the safety and welfare of the women is as important as success with informed choice, which as you may know is a key part of what i speak about. The Open Conspiracy by H.G. Wells: Chapter 9 - No Stable Utopia Is Now Conceivable The Open Conspiracy: Blue Prints for a World Revolution was published in 1928 by H. G. Wells, when he was 62 years old. It was revised and expanded in 1930 with the additional subtitle A Second Version of This Faith of a Modern Man Made More Explicit and Plain. In 1931 a further revised edition appeared titled What Are We to Do with Our Lives? A final version appeared in 1933 under its original title. Many of its ideas are anticipated in Wells's 1926 novel The World of William Clissold. The book is, in Wells's words, a "scheme to thrust forward and establish a human control over the destinies of life and liberate it from its present dangers, uncertainties and miseries."[1] It proposes that largely as the result of scientific progress, a common vision of a world "politically, socially and economically unified" is emerging among educated and influential people, and that this can be the basis of "a world revolution aiming at universal peace, welfare and happy activity" that can result in the establishment of a "world commonwealth".[2] This is to be achieved by "drawing together a proportion of all or nearly all the functional classes in contemporary communities in order to weave the beginnings of a world community out of their selection."[3] This will ultimately "be a world religion."[4] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Open_Conspiracy Audio taken from: archive.org/details/TheOpenConspiracy
In this episode, Melissa returns (with Baby Carter!) from her maternity leave for a conversation about self-care: what it looks like for moms, why it can be hard to make time for self-care, and how we can simplify what it means to care for ourselves. The two Moms break down self-care into several categories, and explore how this approach can help parents recognize all that they are already doing to practice self-care. Both consider a few things that they are doing to take care of themselves, such as paying someone to help with housework, going to therapy, drinking more water, doing something creative, and making time to socialize with other adults. It turns out, self-care might just be a little more within reach than it seems! The Book Blurb in this episode is a poem titled “The Guest House” by Jalaluddin Rumi. To read more about this famous Persian poet, visit this Britannica page.A few other noteworthy mentions include Kristi Yeh's book, Self-Care 101: Self-Care Inspiration for Busy Parents, her blog, Parent Self-Care, and her Instagram account, @parentselfcare. Leah also mentions two apps that have helped her be intentional about self-care: the Sanvello app, and the Sparkle app. Also, one of both Moms' favorite books, Untamed by Glennon Doyle, Armchair Expert episode with Laurie Santos, and previous Momversation Podcast episode, "EP46: Keeping it Real: Making the Most of Postpartum with New Mom Coach Chelsea Skaggs" Keeping It Real: Making the Most of Postpartum with New Mom Coach Chelsea Skaggs.

Tune in this week as we talk about how to use the practice of manifestation to get clear on your desires and bring them to life. We share the step-by-step process of manifestation and how we have used it to transform our lives. The Manifestation Process: Get clear on what you desire. Practice feeling how you would feel if you already had it. It was yours, it was done, you accomplished it. Take note of what keeps you from believing this is true while you're trying to feel the feelings. These are your limiting beliefs. Write these down. Then write new, alternative truths. Hold the feeling of the desire already being yours. Hold on to it for minutes -- meditate on this. In the show notes, we'll add a couple of our favorite meditations that can guide you through this. Learn from fertility expert, Kirsten Karchmer about how to find your fertility formula, what your cycle is telling you and what areas you can work on to improve your natural fertility. In this episode, we interview Kirsten Karchmer (Founder & CEO of Conceivable and Viv Wellness) about her unique approach to infertility, built after 20 years treating over 10,000 infertile couples. We learn how to combine both a western and eastern approach to fertility and about all the factors that could be affecting your fertility. Kirsten talks about the importance of taking fertility tracking or charting to the next level (an interactive level) and how to investigate your menstrual cycle for indicators of ways to boost your natural fertility. We talk about how it’s not necessarily one element that needs changing, but many small levers that need identifying and tweaking to improve fertility. Going in-depth into these ‘levers’, we talk about diet, exercise, reading your cycle, stress, menstrual symptoms, cervical discharge and what changes you can make in each of these areas that can add up to a huge difference in your overall and fertility health. Finally, Kirsten tells us how she uses fertility herbs to boost effectiveness by up to 500%. She says that there are ‘no herbs that are good for fertility’ in a general sense, but that they need to be tailored to the individual and part of the menstrual cycle. You can learn more about the unique Conceivable personalised fertility formula here. In this episode: What’s the difference between the over 600 fertility tracking apps out there and Conceivable’s unique fertility formula The myth that ovulation day is the best day for conception and that some ovulation kits miss the important window just prior to ovulation The correlation between stress and fertility and how reducing stress needs to be part of your fertility formula The link between the stress hormone ‘cortisol’ and low progesterone The symptoms of low progesterone How a cycle length of fewer than 26 days and more than 32 days can decrease the likelihood of conception by 50% How cramping, PMS and is correlated with infertility The importance of drinking enough water for producing cervical discharge, which is an important measure of your fertility How diet, especially high sugar and high carbohydrates, is damaging to our natural fertility Which fertility herbs can help your fertility and how they need to be tailored to the individual and part of the menstrual cycle How a customised intervention or personalised fertility formula can be the most effective way to boost your fertility formula You may also like: Podcast EP2 - Stress & Fertility Podcast EP24 - Quick guide to your fertility diet 41 ways to improve your natural fertility Why cervical mucous is the number one thing you need to be aware of when tracking ovulation and trying to get pregnant Links mentioned in the podcast: Learn about the Conceivable fertility formula Contact Kirsten directly here Your Fertility Toolbox - Free resources, tools and exclusive community for emotional support during infertility IVF Thrive online support course Connect with us on social media: Join us on social media for our Monday motivational posts and Friday funnies and so much more! Board-certified hypnotherapist and award-winning author Lynsi Eastburn joins us today to share her experience from over 25 years in the mind-body healing arts. Lynsi is a true pioneer of bringing hypnosis to the treatment of infertility, and we had such a fabulous talk about how belief systems can become a block when trying to fall pregnant, how she was led to her calling, the creation of HypnoFertility®, and how hypnosis can help us switch from fear and doubt into observation and peace. To share your own fertility story, please email me at hillary@ladypotions.com. I look forward to connecting with you, as you are what this podcast is all about. Takeaway: [0:32] Our guest today is Lynsi Eastburn. Lynsi is a board-certified hypnotherapist and certified hypnotherapy instructor through the National Guild of Hypnotists, along with running the Eastburn Hypnotherapy Center and Eastburn Institute of Hypnosis with her husband Drake. Lynsi is an award-winning author, with one more book in the works entitled Waiting in the Wings, the Pink Starlights. [8:03] Lynsi said yes to the whispers that were stirring in her at a young age of having an interest in helping women have babies and bringing sensitivity and compassion to those having fertility issues. [13:54] Lynsi’s book, It’s Conceivable is the art and science of hypnotherapy — how it deeply affects the nervous system and our mental and emotional blocks. [16:02] Hypnosis impacts the neural pathway, rewires our conditioning, and helps bring in shifts from the subconscious mind to the present moment to manifest our reality. [28:20] We talk about the spiritual side of fertility and a good exercise in how we experience the spiritual realm. [30:22] Whether it’s an Indigo, Rainbow, or Crystal child, they all need structure and parental involvement. We are both inspired by the work of Carolyn Myss in the world of spiritual upbringing on a physical plane. [39:45] Lynsi’s three keys to conception: meditate, listen, and trust. [50:42] As a parent herself, Lynsi establishes a strong parental role but also isn’t afraid to own her mistakes and apologize when something is her fault. There is an exchange of energy and lessons to be learned but they must have an environment of structure. [56:42] We explore hysteria, the uterus, and how it was treated in the past, vs. our present-day tendency to “sshhh” women into not expressing their emotions and trauma. [62:02] She is also graciously giving away 10 copies of her book to the first 10 people that visit our show notes! Today’s episode is going to uncover what your basal body temperatures can and can’t tell you about your fertility. There is a ton of information regarding this topic, so by the time you are done listening to today’s episode, I want you to feel confident and motivated about tracking your BBT and working with your practitioner on what it means for you. We will talk about why you should take your temperature, how to do it and then track it correctly, how to use the different methods to your advantage, and the benefits that come from tracking it. To share your own fertility story, please email me at hillary@ladypotions.com. I look forward to connecting with you, as you are what this podcast is all about. Takeaway: [2:14] When it comes to tracking BBTs or what is known as Basal Body Temperatures, I’ve had two main teachers — Jane Littleton and Kirsten Karchmer from Of Conceivable. Both are a wealth of information when it comes to using and INTERPRETING this technique. [2:57] Many times when a patient comes to my office they have done BBT in the past and are fed up either with the stress it causes or they have no idea how to read it. This leads to them wanting to dismiss doing it all, or maybe they have had an MD of some sort tell them that it’s pointless and they should move on to something like IUI or IVF if they want results. I’m here to tell you that’s not always the case. [4:12] When a woman walks into my office with 3-6 months of charts either on paper or in an app I know in all likelihood she has just sped up her chances of conceiving with Chinese Medicine. This is also a way I know how and when to fine tune her herbs, recommend lifestyle and diet adjustments and even when there is a greater chance of miscarriage after a positive pregnancy test. This gives many women increased peace of mind that they able to keep an eye on the miracle that is unfolding within them without any invasive treatments. The other positive reason I recommend charting your temps is that it can be greatly empowering to understand what is having an effect on your body, like alcohol, caffeine, or even certain foods. [8:17] Calendar rhythm method: Consists of using past menstrual cycles to estimate the time of your ovulation. When used on its own, this is the least reliable method of birth control. It should be avoided if your menstrual cycles are shorter than 26 days or longer than 32 days. [8:42] Temperature method. You track your BBT for several cycles by using a very sensitive basal thermometer to take your temperature before you get out of bed each morning. Due to hormonal surges, your BBT goes up right after ovulation. [9:10] Cervical mucus method. You track the color, thickness, and texture of your cervical mucus to monitor your fertility. Your cervical mucus becomes thinner, slippery, and stretchy when you ovulate. Tracking your cervical mucus will require some practice. [10:14] I cover how to take your BBT: Take your daily temperature first thing upon awakening, before any other activity (going to the bathroom, talking on the phone, etc). The exception is 16 seconds of focused breathing. If using a digital thermometer, wait about 30 seconds until it beeps. If using glass, leave it in 5 minutes and keep the receipt and return if you think the battery is faulty. You can take your temperature orally or vaginally, but always make it from the same place. Pick one and stay with it. Try to take it at the very same time each day right when you wake up. Make sure you get a minimum of 3 hours consecutive sleep before you take the temperature. If you use a glass thermometer, shake it down the day before. If you wake up at 5 and then plan to get up at 7, take your temperature at 5, when you wake up. Most digital thermometers will keep the temperature on it until the next use. [14:38] When charting your temperature, you can use paper or an app. Some that I like are Fertility Friend, Conceivable, and Glow. If the temperature falls between two numbers on a glass thermometer, always take the lowest. Make dots on the appropriate temperature and connect the dots with straight lines. Note events such as stress, or illness in the miscellaneous row. Temperatures taken late should be noted in the ‘time taken’ row. [16:36] We cover what BBT tracking can and cannot do. It cannot tell you about your partner’s fertility, nor is it great at predicting ovulation. [17:50] Don’t freak out if you don’t get every single day. As a practitioner. I am looking for the average in the follicular and the average in the luteal phase. It takes about one season of working with someone to make a 50% increase in their chances of fertility. [19:57] We cover the bleeding, follicular, ovulation and luteal phases and what I look at within each one. [25:18] If temps are at 98.2 in the luteal phase, your miscarriage chances will drop from 30 percent to 5 percent. [29:16] I go over some patterns that we see in BBT and the phases, and how I as a practitioner use this information to work with the patient. [34:12] One reason someone wouldn’t want to track their BBT is when they are taking progesterone supplements, as it affects the temperatures and if it stresses you out completely my suggestion is to meditate directly after. And if that’s still too much for you or you travel a lot or you aren’t able to wake around the same time most days due to life constraints I encourage you to check out the AVA Woman. It's good to have dreams, hopes and wishes for your future, but it's better have goals. Many people think they have goals for their lives because they have an idea of what they want to accomplish, but they don't when they will achieve it or exactly what steps they need to take to carry it out. That is not a goal. That is just a wish. Listen as I walk you through the difference between wishes and goals. Listen to/download this episode here: Show outline: Again, the topic for this episode is driven by events and conversations I've had recently. 2014 is coming to an end, so it's time for creating a plan for 2015 It's also the many people start thinking about New Year's resolutions The verb “Resolve” means: to decide firmly on a course of action. What do you want to be? What do you want your life to look like? What do you want that you don't have now? I urge you to come up with wildly imaginative answers to these questions. Imagine your life extravagantly, because nobody can criticize you for your imagination! What are your goals? It's great to have dreams, but it's better to have goals. Dreams are vague, non-specific desires. Goals are specific and measurable. “I want to be a doctor” is a dream, a good dream. “I want to be a pediatric cardiologist by the time I'm 28 years old” is a goal, a very specific, measurable goal. Most people never realize their dreams because they don't convert them to goals. Think about, visualize, and write out your perfect life in each of these areas: Home: where would you live, what would your house look like, furniture, view, setting (woods, lake, beach, ocean), paintings, artwork, etc. Career: what would you like to be doing, who would you like to be doing it with, ideal colleagues, clients, product or service, how would it be benefiting your clients and the world, contribution to world Financial: how much money would you have, income, savings, assets, investments Family/Friends: what would your relationships look like? how many friends, what kind of friends, what would you like to do with them. Romantic Relationships/Spouse: character traits, romance, intimacy, caring, touching, giving, receiving Body/Physical Health: Ideal weight, skin tone, stamina, endurance, speed, abilities Emotional/Spiritual: free, open, cheerful, grounded, meditative, prayer, worship, etc. Community/Service: what kind of community would you live in, activities, neighbors, interactions with them, how would you serve, volunteer, etc. The World: what would the perfect world look like? would there be peace, war, ozone layer, global warming? How would people groups and nations be interacting? 1953 Graduating class of Yale, surveyed who had specific goals written down. Only 3%. 20 years later, those 3% had a higher net worth than the 97% who didn't have them written down. There is amazing power in knowing what you want and working to achieve it. All of your goals should be in line with your purpose, mission, and vision for your life Be very specific. You can change it as you go, but have very specific goals with deadlines. All goals should have these traits: Conceivable: you can think it up in your mind and it is conceptually possible Believable: you have to believe you can do it. (if you don't believe you can run a mile in under 3 minutes, don't make that a goal. You will never achieve what you what you don't truly believe is possible) Achievable: same idea as Believable. It must be something you can, realistically, achieve. Measurable: how much, by when. Must be measurable by someone other than you. Stated with no alternative: "I want to live on the ocean or a lake" is not a goal. "I want to live on the pacific ocean in Malibu" is. Something for you, not someone else: "I want my son go get better grades in school" is not a goal for you. Controllable: something that you can control.
