From crafting robust support systems to nurturing a culture of empathy, we'll uncover actionable strategies to empower your workforce and enable them to navigate obstacles with resilience and hope. The guest this time is Max Landry, Co-Founder & Co-CEO at Peppy, a health app that connects your people to real, human experts, giving them the care and answers they need to take control of their health and bring their best selves to work, every day.Peppy's trained practitioners support employees through underserved areas of health that fall through the gaps all too often – menopause, fertility, having a baby, and other health-related issues affecting women, men, and the LGBTQ+ community. The Peppy team says they offer expertise delivered with time, passion, and empathy, reducing the health worries that cause employees to disengage, or even leave employment altogether.Prior to co-founding Peppy, Max was Co-Founder and Chief Executive of media company The Conversation UK. Prior to that, he was Co-Founder and Managing Director of Paperstone, one of the UK's first online office supplies companies.Questions for Max include:You've worked with some high-profile companies with a lot of employees; what are the main benefits for a business that decides to use Peppy? A use case? Your site says "1 in 6 colleagues will struggle with their fertility." Tell us more about this challenge and how it can affect the morale and wellbeing of employees. How do you work with HR teams to help them create actionable strategies to empower their workforces and enable them to navigate obstacles with resilience and hope? The US is clearly a focus for Peppy since your expansion into the market last year. What are the key challenges in the US that you want to address? Can you tell me more about Peppy's plans here? How do you see attitudes in the workplace changing towards health support for women, men and the LGBTQ+ community? More About PeppyPeppy was founded by three like-minded individuals, Mridula Pore, Evan Harris and Max Landry, who all experienced the ‘Oh wow!' moment of bringing a baby home for the first time. They saw an opportunity to offer a solution for organizations looking to better support their people and to differentiate themselves in a hyper-competitive market for talent. And so Peppy was born.Today, Peppy is used by over 250 businesses including BNP Paribas, Capgemini, Dyson, Santander and Wickes. We do our best to ensure editorial objectivity. In this bonus episode I share some reflections on my 50th entry with my conversation with Heather Craig: discussing about the language that we use, the importance of having conversation with others about matters of curiosity, how we might listen to people's lived experiences as to come to a greater understanding, but how our lack of understanding that may persist doesn't need to keep us from extending love and respect towards others. In this episode, we discuss the types of help and support available to healthcare workers in distress with Ariel Brown, PhD, Board President & Founder of The Emotional PPE Project. Physician burnout, depression, suicide, and other forms of occupational distress is a significant issue in modern medicine. Each year in the United States, one in 10 physicians think about or attempt suicide, around 400 die by suicide each year, and more than half of physicians know of a colleague who has either thought about, attempted or committed suicide. Suicidal ideation has been associated with high workload volume and medical errors. Physicians who experience suicidal ideation have been shown to be less likely to seek the help they need. Today, we will discuss the ways in which clinicians can receive the help they need. Bogdan Chugunov is a 17-year gastric/stomach cancer survivor. He has traveled around the globe to find people who had minimal mortality rates due to cancer. He found that diet played a big part in the low rates, and he also discovered the amazing healing properties of beehive products. Bogdan incorporated nutraceuticals that help people get and stay healthy under Bee Magic and Health Republic brands. He personally tests and consumes all of his products in addition to sharing his experience and knowledge. Bogdan is not a medical doctor. ✨A few highlights from the show: 1. Nutraceuticals are food or dietary supplements that are believed to provide health benefits. 2. 100% of nutraceuticals can be absorbed into the body. Our bodies are not designed to consume pills or capsules. Therefore, only about 5-10% can be absorbed from consumption. 3. The immune system or immune barrier is the only thing that can prevent cancer development.
The pandemic highlighted deep partisan divisions in the United States over public health measures. Disputes over masking and beliefs about science and vaccines that prevent severe illness and death from infection with SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19, affected nearly every area of life. That rancor impacted death rates in counties that voted Republican in the 2020 presidential election, according to a new study out Monday in the journal Health Affairs. In counties where 70% or more of eligible voters chose the Republican party, there were nearly 73 additional deaths from COVID-19 per 100,000 people compared with Democratic counties (where less than 30% voted Republican). On today's episode of Managed Care Cast, we speak with the lead author of the study, Neil J. Sehgal, PhD, MPH, assistant professor of health policy and management in the University of Maryland (UMD) School of Public Health. He discusses the findings of the paper, coauthored with other scholars from UMD, as well as the University of California, Irvine Program in Public Health. The analysis, which included the majority of US counties, controlled for other characteristics likely to influence COVID-19 transmission and death such as age, race/ethnicity, vaccine uptake, unemployment status, burden of chronic disease, and health care access.

When a child is seriously ill or injured, the entire family is affected. While the child requires medical attention and effective treatments, their family also needs to be supported with compassion and care. Families can find this support at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), which works to ease the burdens of everyday life so families can focus on being with their children. To expand the resources available to families, RMHC of the Intermountain Area has created a new family support program funded by the Cambia Health Foundation. This pioneering program includes a full-time staff person and provides crisis intervention, mental health support, grief and bereavement support, and collaborative case management to help address social determinants of health. This can include helping families at home after their stay by connecting them to community resources for job placement, food security, school, support groups and other services. RMHC is a longtime community partner of Cambia Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Cambia Health Solutions. The new family support program aligns with the Foundation's new strategic vision to advance equity through whole-person health in underserved communities. With this renewed focus on behavioral health and belief in building a just and inclusive health care system for all, the Foundation is amid a multi-year, $11.5 million community initiative to increase access, improve quality of care and reduce the stigma of mental health. “Everybody has access to extraordinary choices.” - Paige Parsons Roache When her daughter decided to go vegan, Paige Parsons Roache couldn't have imagined how much her own diet and life would change. It started with education: reading books, listening to plant-based doctors, watching documentaries and trying vegan food from local restaurants. Pretty soon, Paige was experimenting with recipes and becoming a “chef in her own kitchen” for the first time in her life. After meeting Jane Velez-Mitchell at a vegan event, Paige found herself inspired to get more involved and more vocal about the plant-based cause. Documentaries like Cowspiracy and What the Health had opened her eyes to the environmental and social impacts of animal agriculture, and she became committed to helping end the suffering connected to the industry. “If I knowingly was contributing to the harm of another,” Paige says of her realization, “I knew I had to make the change.” Episode Highlights: Paige's background in the environmental movement, including what inspired her to go plant-based vegan Insights from Paige's journey from a “frozen food vegan” to someone who loves experimenting in the kitchen The importance of educating yourself about food, health and the environment How Jane Unchained/Unchained TV is advancing the vegan and plant-based movements through the resources they provide Easy ways to swap whole plant-based foods in place of animal products Caring for your body holistically, not just through what you eat How to minimize the environmental and social impacts of factory farming Paige's passion for the environment, health and animals shows in her words and actions. Through Jane Unchained, Clubhouse and other initiatives, she's inspiring and encouraging others to get educated about plant-based eating, make the switch away from animal products and take back power for health and wellbeing. Healthcare under capitalism often involves expensive visits to trained professionals. What would a system of peer-to-peer caregiving outside the cash nexus look like? Inspired by models developed in Greek solidarity clinics, Cassie Thornton has devised a radical new approach, one that involves three people focusing on the physical, mental, and social health of a fourth (the “hologram”).
