This is the end....the end of my 'Leading the Coaching Change Podcast'. They say the end is the beginning.  Leading the coaching podcast has been even better than I had imagined. I still remind myself to keep thinking ahead, stay positive, and dream big. I just wanted to take that moment to thank all of you around the globe for taking the time to listen to my podcasts, to implement anything that you've learned from them, to leave a review, as you become the best leader you can be. Do you know this Airline Pilot Maxim: Do we want pessimism in the cockpit? (Hope Theory: Rainbows in the Mind, C.R. Snyder, 2002) "Do we really want the pessimistic pilot, filled with anxiety, tension, worry, sadness, rejection, anger, self-criticalness, and profound uncertainty, to be at the controls when our jet is landing in a thunderstorm?" Not me. I want a high-hope pilot in that cockpit." But for me, there’s more to it with ‘Hope’ so let me share something that is driving my passion around these 4-letter words. I am currently writing a PhD proposal where hope is at the core of my research. My research will investigate and analyse how hope determines the outcome of a difficult conversation related to the performance review in a business context. Hope involves estimation of conscious or unconscious probabilities so my hypothesis is that on choosing the odds to be in our favour, we demonstrate confidence, patience, determination and courage that the ‘perceived’ difficult conversation will transform into a courageous conversation to achieve better outcomes. Hope will not only determine the future of a strong relationship), influence future performance but also shape the future capacity and capability of a person and ultimately plays a part in the business organisational growth. So yes, I believe that hope can determine the flow and outcome of a conversation. In this podcast, I share 5 practical ideas to shift your thinking and your feelings. I challenge you with 3 questions so that you can start using different words. Different words lead to different conversations with different outcomes.  “Change your way of thinking. Tony Robbins says that ‘According to Compton's Encyclopaedia, the English language contains some 500,000 words. Yet, the average person's working vocabulary consists of 2,000, 0.5% of the entire language. And, do you know the number of words we use most frequently, the words that make up our habitual vocabulary? For most people, it averages 200-300 words’. This is astonishing because it implies that the language you have been using may be more limited than you previously thought.   So with this in mind, imagine now... Imagine being a middle leader with a new and experienced line manager who happens to be a micro-manager continually asking questions, having an opinion on everything you do, interfering in what you do daily and how you lead, high jacking your meetings with your teams, giving you feedback where you've no idea about the 'why' of this particular comment, for example,  'you need to be closer to your teams'. How would you feel? IN A WORLD WHERE YOU CAN BE ANYTHING - BE YOURSELF! My guest this week is Jo Soley. As a Business Coach, Jo shows you how to harness the power of the energies of Numerology to elevate your business success.  I first heard about Jo when she was invited to a Podcast with Janet Murray, back in January 2020 and I got curious! I had 2 urgent questions: Why did I need to understand my numbers (based on my date of birth) to elevate my business success when I'd never used those numbers before and was doing quite well so far? How could the day I was born affect my life, work and career? I hesitated in inviting Jo on my podcast because It’s not the kind of podcast interview I normally do and I knew that potentially we could have a difficult conversation on Zoom because, for a start, I did not believe in numerology. In this podcast episode of #Leadingthecoachingchange, Jo reminds us that 'Numerology is as old as the hills. Emperor Nero is associated with it. The Egyptians used in the Hieroglyphics. The Ancient Greeks used it. Pythagoras referenced it in terms of the religion of numbers. Music uses Numerology with strings and tones.'  Jo introduces us to Bizology and says: - We are all unique - we are meant to be. We can do things and act in a way that no-one else can do - Be yourself because everyone else is taken - Today I will do what others won't. So tomorrow I can do what others can't - There's a huge amount of freedom that comes to you when you take nothing personally - Ultimately our success is down to us Jo and I talked about What Numerology is and isn't How to use Numerology in business How to move forward our business (there are better times and easier times to do things) How we can't go go go all the times - it's impossible  My favourite quote from this episode: "I'm saying keep your seatbelts on to the end of the year, stay in your lane with regards to your numeric energies, concentrate on the personal year you're in, do what you have to do until the end of the year. So I'm saying kind of ride it out, energetically'. If you are concerned that the difficult conversations that your leaders need to have are being compromised by remote working – then you need to speak to me!  Either email me today at npowrie@nadinepowrie.com

It should not take a global pandemic to shift to remote working Why shifting to remote teams demand new collaboration skills? Before the coronavirus outbreak, we knew that according to a recent estimate from Gallup, 22% of Americans work from home and nearly 50% are involved with remote or virtual teamwork. In the UK, only 6.1% of UK adults work from home. Well, all of those statistics look to be irrelevant for now. As the coronavirus outbreak is getting worse, public health experts have started asking people to practice social distancing. Remote workers make up anywhere from about 5 percent (those who typically work from home) to nearly two-thirds (who sometimes work remotely) of the workforce, depending on the measurement at the moment around the world and this  increasing by the day as companies navigate the current outbreak. When you are working with remote teams, you face consistent challenges because you still need to hold those difficult conversations like giving feedback on poor performance or restructuring or even pay – but it also gives opportunities to improve our leadership and communication skills. Collaborating effectively when your team is remote is essential so that it impact positively on your team’s moral, engagement, productivity and innovation Body language is what is missing from emails, *WhatsApp, digital communication opening doors to misunderstanding and creating unnecessary anxiety.
