And there are a lot of them. A. Lot. March Harriet is absolutely a real villain from DC comics. She later became March Hare as part of the Wonderland Gang. Seriously. Condiment King is actually a real villain from DC comics that got his start in the DC Animated Universe. His weapons are ketchup, mustard, and hot sauce or relish depending on the situation. Is this thing a dog ?! No connection. Some lived. Some died. It's been a while since a podcast episode was released, and that's because life's been insane at TGON! With conventions starting to re-open and more releases happening, things have been ramping up, and unfortunately, the podcast has been the thing that's been on the back burner. Thanks to our editor, Nick Jack Wright, we've got many episodes completed and ready for release. So without further ado, let's send off 2021 with a discussion about Superheros.I sat down to chat with the author of Tower of Blue, Eric Locsh, about what a superhero is. I honestly thought this episode would be quite a straightforward chat about our favorite and most hated superheroes, but it got super deep. We may have more questions than actual answers at the end of this. Before we dive in, we talk about what's been taking our money and attention. Eric has been watching the HBO series Barry which now has a couple of seasons. This episode was recorded before Halloween, so at the Parola House, we were deep in a Hotel Transylvania phase. This brought me to my first question to segway into our chat about Superheroes, are monsters considered superheroes?Eric immediately takes it further and asks the golden question we will keep going back to the entire episode, WHAT IS A SUPERHERO? It could be someone with powers or someone who does good. Maybe, it's someone who has overcome something difficult. The definition lies in the eye of the beholder. We quickly discussed how the term superhero came to be. Robin Hood, Zorro, and Popeye (1929) are considered the first real superheroes we know of. We wouldn't get Batman and Superman until 1939, shortly after Captain America in 1940. The reality is that the definition has changed over time, and it's not as black and white as it used to be.Eric opens up the discussion to villains with, "Well aren't villains just heroes of their own story." A great example is the latest Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix and how he's done some horrible things at the movie's end. He has this massive following of people who think he is a hero. Of course, my mind immediately goes to the current state of social media and how we as a society flock to influencers in the same way when their content goes viral. We then jump into a discussion of how we got into superheroes and what they mean to us. We also chat about how nerd culture has changed. Eric talks about how he's enjoyed this new view on superheroes who know they should be doing good but choose to do evil. Series like The Boys, Invincible, and Jupiter's Legacy have done a great job exploring these themes. This then gets us talking about WTF superheroes like Polka Dot Man from Suicide Squad, the Legion of Pets, and the entire army of Gorilla Grodds. I go on a tangent about my love-hate relationship with the CW DC televisions series. This is when Eric turns the tables and asks me what I'm most excited about when it comes to superheroes. In all honesty, I'm excited about all the possibilities. We've seen what has happened when other cultures and skin tones are shown on the screen with heroes like Black Panther and Shang-Chi. I remember how excited I was to find out that Wonder Woman was finally getting her own movie and when Star Wars revealed that Ray was a Jedi. I was that girl whom her brothers constantly told that girls couldn't be Jedis. I do, though, want someone to explain why Squirrel girl gets some much hate?I return the favor by asking Eric what he is most excited about, which jumps us into a discussion about DC Comics. He's cautiously optimistic about the new Robert Pattinson's Batman. Since DC has refused to keep the same characters and has jumped around so many times, Eric thinks they need to find some way to tie them all together. This leads him to think something like a Multi-Earth verse could soon be in the works. All of the calculated MCU connections over the past decade have made DC look like it's flying by the seat of its pants. Both companies have the money to make things w...

Welcome back faithful listeners! Today Mag's, Mike, and Matt chat about the newest DC movie to hit the big and small screen The Suicide Squad starring everyone! Ok not everyone but man it is one heck of a cast. Bonus topics include Fast and Furious (yes, again), Sedona, and Van Wilder. The Suicide Squad is a fun gory romp with a mess of DC villains trying to save the world. James Gunn really brought his A game to the DCEU. The Suicide Squad is leaps and bounds better than it's 2016 counterpart. There is a lot of comedy, silly action, and memorable characters. We will just put it out there, Polka-Dot Man steals the show with one of the most powerful and strange abilities ever conceived in a superhero/villain movie. If you enjoy action, are not afraid of lots of gore, and want a zany story than The Suicide Squad is a must see especially if you have HBO Max. Matt takes the top spot this week really loving this film awarding it 4 out of 5 Reels. The married duo agreed it was a bit too out there for them, especially the story. They both award The Suicide Squad an average 3 out of 5 Reels. Next week Mike steps up to the plate picking the second Ryan Reynolds movie of the summer, Free Guy. This theater only release looks like a fun take on video games. The crew can't wait to watch this one. Thank you for your continued support of our podcast and we will chat at you next week. The final trailer for Far From Home has officially changed Spider Sense to Peter Tingle, and I will forever refer to it as this. Did the Stranger Things 3 trailer give away too much? Blumhouse produced remake “The Craft” is still in the works and they may have gotten Cailee Spaeny as lead! Rim of the World review. Netflix is losing the Office! The new Lion King movie may have Elton John competing for an Oscar with…well…Elton John. Kevin Smith confirms he’s finally got a show. It’s an IP we’re all familiar with, but he’s ONLY confirmed that it’s not Marvel. The Current War is all of the yes we wanted. A movie about the war between Tesla, Edison AND Westinghouse. Space Jam 2 has…unfortunately, started initial filming. The Boys could be that one show we’ve been waiting for. Marvel’s Spiderman review. Scooby Doo and Guess Who on Boomerang has…Jaleel White?! AS URKEL?! Venom 2 is officially happening. Sony Still has plans for Black Cat and Silver Sable! Taika Waititi is going to help Fox/Disney do an animated Flash Gordon movie Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo joined forces and all spoke out against Trumps Tariffs on gaming consoles. New One Punch Man announced…it looks funny. Twitch has soft launched a whole new feature, Subscriber-only streams. What do we think? Feige confirms that Spider-man: Far From Home is the official end to the Infinity Saga. He describes it as showing how Spiderman steps out from Tony’s shadow and becomes the true hero he was always meant to be. James Gunn’s Suicide Squad will start filming September 23rd and wrap January 31st in Atlanta, Georgia. He refuses to answer if it's a sequel or reboot David Dastmalchian (from ant-man and the wasp) joins as the Polka Dot Man.Comic book CornerDC Comics has cancelled Vertigo Comics permanently – What does it mean – DC Zoom Cancelled – DC Ink Cancelled – Now only 3 imprints ○ DC Kids from ages 8-12 ○ DC will be 13 and up ○ Black Label is for 17 and up – Makes sense, but what is the secret gossip? The former DC president Diane Nelson created all of these imprints, the new president Pamela Lifford wants the bare minimum of imprints with the most simplistic branding possible. This means that some comics are going to have to either change to Black Label, be cancelled, or be toned down to fit into DC (13 and up). What was initially thought to be a Fantastic Four/Spiderman crossover after Marvel revealed a “webbed number 4” the next day we learned it was a countdown. What did it count down? JJ Abrams has joined his son, Henry Abrams to make a 5 issue limited series called “Spider-man” with a villain named “Cadaverous” Savage Avengers Update • Wolverine can save people with his blood. • They involve Venom symbiote and Punisher. The basic concept of the series, is that the Hand needs the blood of the most powerful warriors to do something big, that's the justification behind the series. What could go wrong? Meeple Mania Tal Der Wikinger (Valley of the Vikings) has won 2019 Children’s Game of the year. You have little boats filled with coins, you knock barrels over, sounds fun and these award winning games often have staying power if you choose to pick it up. • This will be available before the end of 2019 Jaws. You can play the role of the shark in Jaws the board game. 2-4 players with the shark gaining powers based on how many humans it can eat. Looks cool, plus what could go wrong with eating the characters of the other players? • Now available at Target. Starfarer’s of Catan. A new edition is coming out, I missed the first edition, the new edition has revised graphics and game materials, it sounds fun. • Q4 release date Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth
