Remember your first happy hour? Saturday mornings—when you'd wake up with the sun, grab a bowl of chocolatey cereal, and lose yourself in a world of cartoons, commercials, and pure, unfiltered joy. We're still chasing that feeling, one episode at a time. This week, we're kicking off our Spreaker premiere with a true legend of Saturday morning animation: Michael Hirsh—the creative force behind Ewoks, Droids, Babar, Beetlejuice, Franklin, Little Bear, and many more. He also introduced American audiences to The Story of the Faithful Wookie, the animated short that debuted Boba Fett in the now-iconic Star Wars Holiday Special. What's it like to help shape a generation's imagination? We ask him—and he tells us.Join hosts Grim Shea, Marke, Jimmy “The Gent,” and Johnny Heck as they launch a brand-new chapter of Saturday Morning Cereal—now on Spreaker and wherever you get your pods.Plus, check out Michael Hirsh's new memoir, Animation Nation: How We Built a Cartoon Empire—a fun, insightful look at how passion, creativity, and a little cereal-fueled magic can build something unforgettable.

James "Jimmy the Gent" Burke (1931-1996) was a notorious figure in American organized crime, known for his association with the Lucchese crime family in New York. Born into a life of hardship and abuse, Burke's early years were marked by instability and criminal behavior, setting the stage for his later involvement in the Mafia.Burke rose to prominence in the 1950s, becoming a key player in the criminal underworld through his intelligence, strategic thinking, and ability to maintain a calm demeanor. His polite and courteous manner earned him the nickname "The Gentleman," though this masked his ruthless efficiency in orchestrating criminal activities. The pinnacle of Burke's criminal career was the Lufthansa Heist in 1978, where his team stole an estimated $5 million in cash and nearly $1 million in jewelry from the Lufthansa cargo terminal at JFK Airport. The heist, one of the largest cash thefts in American history, showcased Burke's meticulous planning and insider information. However, it also led to a series of murders orchestrated by Burke to eliminate potential informants and secure his freedom.Despite his involvement in the Lufthansa Heist, Burke managed to evade conviction for many years due to the Mafia's code of silence and his skill at covering his tracks. His eventual downfall came in 1982 when he was convicted of fixing Boston College basketball games, leading to a prison sentence that lasted until his death from cancer in 1996.Burke's life has been immortalized in popular culture, most notably in Martin Scorsese's film "Goodfellas," where Robert De Niro portrayed a character based on him. His legacy is a complex mix of admiration for his cunning and strategic mind, and condemnation for his brutal and violent actions. Burke remains a symbol of the allure and danger of the criminal underworld, illustrating the fine line between genius and infamy.(commercial at 9:42)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we catch a ride on the Mystery Machine! Launched as a Saturday morning cartoon in 1969, writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears AKA “Ruby-Spears” created the original series “Scooby-Doo, Where are you!” for Hanna-Barbara Productions where it would go on to produce countless cartoon series spinoffs, animated and live action films. Zoinks, that's a tasty Scooby Snack! To help with our Scooby talk we have two Scooby-Doo universe guests, the embodiment of “Shaggy” Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby Doo) and a voice of “Velma” Kate Micucci (Scrubs, Garfunkel and Oats) Actor Matthew Lillard first got our attention as the killer accomplice “Stuart” in the hit horror movie Scream. But what Matthew is synonymous for is as Scooby's two legged BFF “Shaggy”. He's the first actor to portray “Shaggy” in the 2002 live action hit Scooby-Doo (written by James Gunn) with the all star cast of Freddie Prince JR.Sarah Michelle Gellar and Linda Cardalini. Since that one-screen debut, Matthew has gone on to reprise his “Shaggy” in a live action sequel and voiced the character about 50 more times in various animated movies and shows. Comedian, actress and musician Kate Micucci has 154 IMDB credits. She's funny, cute as a button and plays a wicked banjo! Besides all that, she has voiced “Velma” 18 times going back to 2015 in various animated TV films and shows. Join Grim Shea, Marke, and Bleeding Cool's Jimmy The Gent to celebrate one of the greatest cartoons and CU's to have ever graced the small and large screens, Scooby-Doo!

Everyone's favorite felonious feline takes action, adventure and theft to new heights – and with an entrancing anime style – in Catwoman: Hunted, an all-new DC Animated Movie. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the jazzy pop film noir feature-length animated film is both visually striking and groundbreaking. Not only is Catwoman: Hunted DCAU's first Catwoman feature but it may also be the first superhero movie to ever present its lead hero Catwoman and co-lead hero Batwoman as LGBTQ+ characters without orientation being the focal point of the story. Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we take a sweet bite of horror comedy hijinks and movies so scary funny you might just pee a little. Since Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, horror comedies have walked the fine line between scary and funny. Fast forward 70 years and this sub genre is still riding strong all while achieving pop-culture cult status and success for their talent and creatives. Army of Darkness, Shawn of the Dead, and Zombieland are but a few relatively recent examples of the literally thousands of horror comedies to mention so to help us along this long, dark, winding and wacky road are guests Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911!) and co-writer Jill-Michele Melean (MadTV) to announce, discuss and celebrate the release of their new movie Witness Infection (Avail VOD 3/30/2021).      WitnessInfection tells the story of two rival mob families who are transferred from the Witness Protection Program to the same city by mistake. But the past is about to come back and bite them when a serious infection brought on by tainted Italian sausage turns casual diners into zombies and the small inland SoCal city of Temecula, into a hell scape of vomiting, farting, pus faced, brain eating monsters. Join hosts, Grim Shea, Marke and Jimmy The Gent as they try to crack that code and find the funny in very strange places. You’ll laugh, you’ll scare, you’ll pee your pants a little.

Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we take a musical journey with a discussion on the music movie biopics that have shaped the pop-culture. Joining us are Greg Naughton, Rich Price and Brian Chartrand of the real life band “The Sweet Remains” and of their fictional band and movie music bio-pic, The Independents, a musical comedy/drama about three solo-artists who collide at the same crossroads and discover harmony and their roller-coaster-ride journey across America for a one last shot at musical glory. In 1987 you saw a Tejano band Los Lobos with a toe tapping Lou Diamond Phillips in a music video for their #1 hit single, “La Bamba”, the biopic title track that was a cover of Ritchie Valens 1958 song that was really an old Mexican folk song. All this to say that music biopics leave a mark on pop-culture that music alone can’t reach and yet, it’s the music that makes those movies so memorable! Music biopics have been around since the invention of movie sound with the problematic The Jazz Singer and have been darlings of Academy Awards night ever since. Join Grim Shea, Marke and Jimmy The Gent as they get to heart of it all… Music biopics are the link between pop-charts and pop-culture. This episode is sponsored by Paramount Home Entertainment and Lady Sings the Blues. Nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Actress for Diana Ross, Lady Sings the Blues captures the essence of Billie Holiday, one of Americas most loved blues singers and introduced the world to the amazing acting capability of Richard Pryor as “Piano Man”.

Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, we talk all about Noriyuki "Pat" Morita and the pop-culture impact of The Karate Kid’s Mr. Miyagi inspired by the documentary More Than Miyagi: The Pat Morita Story with guests; director Kevin Derek and producer Oscar Alvarez. To Gen Xers, the year 1984 is a very special one. It was a pop-culture “big bang” that introduced the world to iconic characters including The Terminator, Gremlins and the Ghostbusters to name but a few. Among these IP behemoths is The Karate Kid and it’s mentor, father and karate master Mr. Nariyoshi Miyagi. “Mr. Miyagi” is one of the most important figures in pop culture as seen in toys, posters, t-shirts, Saturday morning cartoons of the 80’s and still today with the revival of the franchise in the Cobra Kai series and a popular meme/gif of a proud, watery eyed and smiling Mr. Miyagi that seems say “I’m sorry, I can’t hear over the sound of how awesome I am”. Join Grim Shea, Marke and Jimmy The Gent as they wax on and on and on about the Oscar-nominated actor who overcame so much and left behind a legacy! About the film: The Oscar-nominated actor best known for his role of "Mr. Miyagi," left behind a painfully revealing autobiographical record of his much-too-brief time here on Earth, tracing his journey from being bed-bound as a boy to the bright lights and discrimination in Hollywood. Deep inside that sweet, generous, multi-talented performer seethed an army of demons, that even alcohol and drugs couldn't mask.

Notable productions include The Jellies!, Losers, UglyAmericans, ShortiesWatchin’ Shorties and WonderShowzen. Augenblick co-wrote and directed the 2007 short film GoldenAge, which was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Prize in the Ottawa Film Festival. To relax a little, Augenblick Studios animated two episodes in Netflix’s HeadspaceGuidetoMeditation series that takes viewers through the benefits and science of meditation and has now focused his attention to developing original content at HBO Max, Adult Swim, TBS, and PBS. He created the horror-comedy series DeathHacks for Snapchat, which debuted in Fall 2020 and has animated and produced the upcoming Adult swim half-hour comedy series TeenageEuthanasia that will premiere next year.
