We welcomed Clay Mowry, the new CEO of AIAA, to the program to discuss the "new" AIAA and the health of all aspects of our space industry. We started the 66 minute discussion with a detailed look at the dynamite new AIAA logo and the story about it told by Clay. First, check out the new logo. Visit AIAA.org to see it. Next, listen to Clay's story while you are looking at the new logo. If you are so inclined, post your thoughts about it on our blog for this show or in the Substack comments section (doctorspace.substack.com). By the way, how many of you remember the BellX-1 and its sound breaking history? If not, this would be a good time to learn and seal to your memory this important part of our nation's and really the worlds history. We moved on to talk about the split with AIAA between Aviation and Space. Aviation has always dominated the AIAA but as you will hear, space is becoming a more and more significant part and focus of the organization. Clay was asked about his plans going forward for the organization. In just a few words, AIAA is reaching out to its younger membership, students and going digital with most of their product. Clay told us the story about his trip to many of the nations finest aerospace engineering and science programs to interview the students to get a handle on how to focus the "new" AIAA. After telling us all about what they are doing for student and younger folk retention, a listener asked him what they were doing for the older crowd, even the "geezers." Don't miss this part of the AIAA new outreach program. In addition to the AIAA part of our discussion, Clay was asked about his views on the space economy, the continued availability of investment and risk capital, Artemis, Starship, the SLS-Gateway program and hardware plus Mars and the possible increase in attention to human spaceflight by NASA. We talked about the potential science and other agency budget cuts, we switched over to hear about the new changes and improvements for their great magazine/journal, "Aerospace America." Also, the AIAA book publishing division. He suggested we all sign up for "MyDailyLaunch (see he program to find out. Thank you. Dr. Spacehttps://aiaa.org/news/newsletters/my-daily-launch). Near the end of our program, Clay was asked what his biggest surprise was in becoming the new CEO. Well, its a surprise. Listen to the program to find out. Thank you. Dr. Space.

We welcomed Dan Adamo back to the program to discuss his work recently presented to AIAA pertaining to human spaceflight travel between Earth-Mars waypoints. Dan's PDF is on our blog for this specific page. We started by addressing each slide so you need to open the PDF and follow along. For Part 2 in a week, the PDF is must to understand our discussion. In this segment, Dan defined many of the terms & concepts used in his presentation regarding "Interplanetary Synodic-Rosonat Waypoints." Additionally, Dan used the U.S. mature airline industry for potential comparison points for they to be defined potential interplanetary travel system. Dan did disclose that his work was very speculative so keep that in mind during the discussion, especially when we talked timeline and travel times from Earth to Mars. The Moon, lunar habs, development & such were part of our discussion but the focus was on the Synodic-Resonant Waypoints. Dan received multiple email questions along with several calls from listeners. While our program was technical, we were careful to get Dan to explain in "laymen" terms what he was talking about. He also invited more listener questions, especially from the archive listeners, even telling listeners how to direct email him. Many times over, Dan suggested this was a potential interplanetary roadmap plus he wanted it to be part of any future Earth-Mars mission planning. Dan was even asked about waypoints for Earth to Europa in the Jovian system. Don't miss what he said about travel to Europa. Please be sure to listen to Part 2 of this program, 25 May 2025 at noon PDT. Listen the same way you do to all Space Show programs. Thank you.

Tonight, our guest is Preston Dennett to discuss reports of UFO sightings coming from oceans, lakes, and underground bases. Get his book Undersea UFO Base: An In-Depth Investigation of USOs in the Santa Catalina Channel   USAF Regulation 200-2 (1953–1954) Air Force Regulation 200-2,[55] issued in 1953 and 1954, defined an Unidentified Flying Object ("UFOB") as "any airborne object which by performance, aerodynamic characteristics, or unusual features, does not conform to any presently known aircraft or missile type, or which cannot be positively identified as a familiar object." The regulation also said UFOBs were to be investigated as a "possible threat to the security of the United States" and "to determine technical aspects involved." The regulation went on to say that "it is permissible to inform news media representatives on UFOB's when the object is positively identified as a familiar object" but added: "For those objects which are not explainable, only the fact that ATIC [Air Technical Intelligence Center] will analyze the data is worthy of release, due to many unknowns involved."[55]Blue Book and the Condon Committee (1968–1970)Main article: Condon CommitteeA public research effort conducted by the Condon Committee for the USAF and published as the Condon Report arrived at a negative conclusion in 1968.[56] Blue Book closed down in 1970, using the Condon Committee's negative conclusion as a rationale, thus ending official Air Force UFO investigations. However, a 1969 USAF document, known as the Bolender memo, along with later government documents, revealed that non-public  U.S. government UFO investigations continued after 1970. The Bolender memo first stated that "reports of unidentified flying objects that could affect national security ... are not part of the Blue Book system," indicating that more serious UFO incidents already were handled outside the public Blue Book investigation. The memo then added, "reports of UFOs which could affect national security would continue to be handled through the standard Air Force procedures designed for this purpose."[note 3]In the late 1960s a chapter on UFOs in the Space Sciences course at the U.S. Air Force Academy gave serious consideration to possible extraterrestrial origins. When word of the curriculum became public, the Air Force in 1970 issued a statement to the effect that the book was outdated and cadets instead were being informed of the Condon Report's negative conclusion.[57]Controversy surrounded the report, both before and after its release. It has been observed that the report was "harshly criticized by numerous scientists, particularly at the powerful AIAA ... [which] recommended moderate, but continuous scientific work on UFOs."[56] In an address to the  AAAS, James E. McDonald said he believed science had failed to mount adequate studies of the problem and criticized the Condon Report and earlier studies by the USAF as scientifically deficient. He also questioned the basis for Condon's conclusions[58] and argued that the reports of UFOs have been "laughed out of scientific court".[59] J. Allen Hynek, an astronomer who worked as a USAF consultant from 1948, sharply criticized the Condon Committee Report and later wrote two nontechnical books that set forth the case for continuing to investigate UFO reports.Ruppelt recounted his experiences with Project Blue Book, a USAF investigation that preceded Condon's.[60]FOIA release of documents in 1978. Want Ad-Free Episodes and MORE exclusive content? Here's how:iPhone Users:Subscribe to Mysterious Radio on Apple Podcasts to listen to all of our episodes ad-free, or become one of our exclusive Patreon members to gain access to MORE content!Android Users:Enjoy ad-free episodes, case files, and more when you join us on Patreon. Please copy and paste our link into a text message to all your family members and friends! In this episode… 3D printing enhances manufacturing processes by minimizing waste and decreasing production costs. It's also an environmentally friendly option compared to traditional production methods. The technology was adopted by multiple industries, testing the boundaries of its capabilities. How can 3D printing be used to advance concrete production? Combining his interdisciplinary work in electrical, aerospace, and civil engineering, Sven Bilén is leading the charge in designing technology to make concrete 3D printing available for construction projects — on Earth and in space. Access to a concrete 3D printer reduces waste, allows contractors to build complex infrastructures, and permits multiple types of concrete to be used depending on the characteristics necessary to complete the infrastructure. On this episode of This Is Concrete, Chad Gill welcomes Sven Bilén, Professor of Engineering Design, Electrical Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering at Penn State University, to discuss X-HAB 3D's technology design for concrete 3D printing and its implications on the engineering and construction industry. Sven also divulges how lunar concrete can be used for space infrastructure and repurposed as a structural component on Earth.

In this long awaited podcast episode, I speak with Architect and Broker Associate Brian Linder, AIAA seasoned real estate professional with 20 years of experience in high-end, custom residential design and construction and a master's degree in architecture, Brian Linder, AIA, brings design-oriented expertise to the buying and selling of estates, architectural properties and historic residences.Over the course of his career, Brian has represented some of the most notable properties in Los Angeles, including work by Rudolf Schindler, Angélil/Graham, Coop Himmelblau and Eric Owen Moss. His sophisticated eye and understanding of complex real estate transactions have enabled him to assist buyers in finding value for their investment at every level of spending. A skilled marketer and Certified Negotiation Expert, Brian has also helped owners and developers market distinctive projects, from land with plans through the construction of speculative ventures. Viewing architecture as an opportunity, he brings his expertise to help buyers find the most interesting, well-designed homes available in their price range, and to help sellers get the highest possible prices for their special architect-designed homes.Brian has built his real estate practice around a concept he calls “The Value of Architecture.” This concept is based on the notion that architectural homes provide countless lifestyle benefits, carry greater premiums, and tend to be less sensitive to market fluctuations. Brian leads the ongoing UCLA Extension course “The Value of Architecture” and has further developed this thesis in presentations to the American Institute of Architects, the Society of Architectural Historians and various local and national audiences. Brian is also committed to promoting architecture as art, featuring the work of practicing architects, including Marmol Radziner, Pugh Scarpa, and Patrick Tighe, on his website.Brian spent several years as an architect and construction manager before earning his broker's license and joining the firm formerly known as Mossler Deasy & Doe, the original marketers of architectural real estate in Los Angeles. Licensed in California, Texas and Washington, Brian has since been involved in the sale of architectural properties from Southern to Northern California and marketed out-of-state properties as far afield as New Canaan, Connecticut. In addition to working out of Compass's Beverly Hills office, Brian holds court in Austin, Texas and has sold numerous architectural homes in a wide radius, including properties in Marfa, Texas, the minimalist modern art and architecture mecca. When he's not representing clients in real estate, Brian enjoys spending time with his kids, doing hot yoga several times a week—sometimes followed by a cold plunge in the ocean or Barton Springs when in Austin—hiking, mountain biking, surfing, touring architectural homes, organic gardening and chicken husbandry (he has seven raised beds and eight laying hens in his front yard), traveling, meditation and Native American studies. Brian holds a BS in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University and MA in Architecture from UCLA. L'effet papillon : le podcast de l'impact positif d'Anne-Fleur Andrle

When people zig, you zag...The very first time I heard of Marcus Yam was in my college newspaper. There was a story about this international student who had studied aerospace engineering just a few years before me. He had found his calling while covering engineering students' projects for the local chapter of AIAA, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Eventually, his calling took him to what he does today: photography as an insanely talented roving foreign correspondent for the LA Times. Once an aerospace engineering student at UB and today a 3 times recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for his photography, rewarding how he tells stories that impacted the past decade, raw and urgent images that capture history, humanity and society, Marcus follows his guts and says no. Ultimately what truly fascinates me is how leading his life this way took him where he is and to what he does today: telling powerful stories through images. Marcus is passionate about telling stories, about showing us the world as he sees and lives it, and … well, he does it so well.So I decided to reach out to him as I wanted to know how a once international student who studied aerospace got to live his life as he puts it "as freely as possible", to living his dream. His new American dream.Episode cover picture by Nabih Bulos / Los Angeles Times.Follow Marcus Yam's work on his website: https://www.marcusyam.com/An episode by Anne-Fleur Andrle, mixing and sound design by Alice Krief.Find me on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/annefleurandrle Hosted on Acast.

Ted Roe stops in for a few minutes to discuss the AIAA statement on UFOs, NARCAP, pilot encounters, then guest Jack Brewer got interested in the many overlaps between NICAP and intelligence agencies. Then, through the FOIA, various archives, newspaper clippings and so on, it got increasingly interesting, to the point that he wrote about it. Frankly, Jack was surprised how much material he has obtained that suggests the CIA facilitated the birth of NICAP.Show Notes
