Shadow of Intent guitarist Chris Wiseman is our guest this week! We discuss their brand new album, Elegy, his lyrical approach to the record, and how he got Chuck Billy and Phil Bozeman as guests. We also talk about postponing their European tour due to rising Covid cases, what they learned on their recent U.S. tour with Born Of Osiris, the big spectrum of how headlining bands set rules for modern touring, the pros and cons of self-releasing the band's music, why signing to a label feels like “giving up," and his plans to release different versions of Elegy. Petar and Brandon tackle Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows' comments that the band's new album was “very influenced by Kanye West”, their thoughts on the latest reboot of Beavis and Butt-Head, and the viral video featuring children who don't know any songs by the bands on the shirts they're wearing. Ahead of their tour to Australia with Chelsea Grin HEAVY Mag chats to Born Of Osiris.
"We're not really nervous, just more ready to get it out", affirmed Kynan Groundwater, vocalist for Diamond Construct ahead of the release of the bands self-titled debut album on May 17. "It's been a long time since we recorded it - we started in April 2018 - so it's getting closer now and we just can't wait for the day to come".With their 2016 E.P Event Horizon the only previous release from the band, Kynan says that the parallels between the two musically are quite significant."We've gone for a heavier direction, definitely", he said, "by drawing inspiration from a few 90's bands like Korn, Slipknot and Meshuggah so there's heaps of heavier grooves but we still stay true to ourselves with our melodic side as well. We've thrown some choruses in there so we've gone for hook, groove-driven choruses with some screaming and guitar riffs"."As well with the guitars", interjected guitarist, and Kynan's brother, Braiden. "We've added more layers in terms of guitar effects and pedals so we're messing with a lot of really interesting stuff. I guess that we've been influenced by electronic and dance music there as well".In the full interview the boys discuss the line between imitation and inspiration and where to draw it, how the album differs musically to Event Horizon, the personal nature of the album and songs, the story behind the cover artwork, their upcoming tour with Born Of Osiris and Chelsea Grin and how you approach a tour of such magnitude.

Lee tells James about the long road to the album's release, as well as how the group found the themes that run throughout the record. He also details how Born Of Osiris has continued to thrive in an era when many claim rock is dead and offers insight into what the future may hold.

First impressions don’t tell the whole story behind Chicago metalcore band Born of Osiris. In this interview, Ronnie Canizaro and Joe Buras reveal the varied influences and personal struggles feeding “Soul Sphere,” the band’s fourth, and navigating pressures from the band’s record label, Sumerian Records, to maintain their artistic vision.
Born of Osiris guitarist Lee McKinney guests this week just as their new album Soul Sphere drops. We talk about the new album, growing up on the road, his relationship with the other band members and how that's changed over the years, how touring effects his private life and whether his skills as a guitarist enhance certain parts of his alone time. We also listen to a bit of the new Protest the Hero song and discuss their decision to turn the industry on its head yet again with a subscription-based EP release. Is it a smart move to offer their fans something no one ever has, or will there be backlash for releasing just six songs in as many months?
