Due to technical difficulties Amy Winehouse episode is delayed. Will air at a later time. The Associated Press · Posted: Mar 12, 2007 9:04 AM EDT | Last Updated: March 12, 2007 Richard Jeni, a standup comedian who played to sold-out crowds, was a regular on The Tonight Show and appeared in movies, died of a gunshot wound in an apparent suicide, police said Sunday. Police found the comic alive but gravely injured in a West Hollywood home when they responded to a call Saturday morning from Jeni's girlfriend, Los Angeles police officer Norma Eisenman said. Eisenman said the caller told police: "My boyfriend shot himself in the face." Jeni, who according to police was 49 years old, died at a nearby hospital. Eisenman said suicide had not been officially confirmed and the investigation was continuing. An autopsy on Jeni was to be done Monday, said Lieut. Fred Corral from the investigation division of the coroner's office. Jeni regularly toured the United States with a standup act and had starred in several HBO comedy specials, most recently A Big Steaming Pile of Me during the 2005-06 season. Another HBO special, Platypus Man, won a Cable ACE award for best standup comedy special and formed the basis for Jeni's UPN sitcom of the same name, which ran for one season. Jeni's movie credits included The Mask, in which he played Jim Carrey's best friend, The Aristocrats, National Lampoon's Dad's Week Off and An Alan Smithee Film: Burn, Hollywood, Burn. He had guest appearances in the TV shows Everybody Hates Chris, Married: With Children and updated versions of the game shows Hollywood Squares and Match Game. Frazer Smith, a standup comedian who often opened for Jeni and the emcee at the Ice House, where Jeni often performed, said young comedians looked up to him. "He was probably one of the best standup comedians in the last 50 years," said Smith. "He had tons and tons of material. He was looked up to by all the young comedians, a total pro." Osborne was also the winner of the 1984 Press Award from the Publicists Guild of America. On Feb. 1, 2006, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in January 2008, he received a special award from the National Board of Review for his contributions as a film historian. In addition to his hosting duties for TCM, Osborne has also done several specials for the network, including Private Screenings, an hour-long interview series with such Hollywood luminaries as Shirley MacLaine, Lauren Bacall, Angela Lansbury, James Garner, Jane Fonda, Sidney Lumet, Norman Jewison, and Tony Curtis. He also hosted TCM's Guest Programmer series, in which he has been joined in introducing movie line-ups by an eclectic mix, including David Mamet, Alec Baldwin, Mia Farrow, Martha Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Ford, Liz Smith, Bill Cosby, Donald Trump, James Elroy, Evander Holyfield, Danny DeVito, Renee Feming, Gore Vidal and Kermit the Frog. Les, Kurt, and Jason are back in the dojo and all equally obsessed with Cobra Kai, especially the fact that Kim Fields is a presence in season 2 (or, as Jason calls it, season Tootie!). Les tells the other guys that Kim was on a season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta but left because she's not ratchet (and Kurt learns what that means). After an in-depth discussion of the Chris Evans photo that won the internet (Jason doesn't want a Hulk penis, btw, but would like a Thor hammer), it's time to dig into Lifetime's Deranged Granny. Starring 4-time Cable Ace-winning pescatarian Wendy Malick, this movie had all the potential to be completely off the rails insane, but plays it (somewhat) closer to the vest. What it lacks in overly absurd plot twists, it more than makes up for in experimental cinematography fit for a director's reel. Malick's character Barbara bakes! And cooks! And poisons! Though it's not hard to be evil when your son is a Pansy Paul Rudd, and your daughter in law's ex has a lightning quick digestive system, even if that doesn't leave her enough poison to deal with her implied massive rat problem. Vacation does not keep L. Joy from making sure we get our needed #SundayCivics lesson! To discuss voter suppression, she brings film producer Timothy Smith and the incomparable Joy Ann Reid to the front of the class to discuss the perils of voter suppression because in the words of Joy Ann Reid, “..if you’re not scared, you’re not paying attention.” Our Guests Timothy (Tim) Smith is an accomplished and award-winning television producer and Executive Producer of the film Rigged: The Voter Suppression Playbook. The film captures real-time voter purges in North Carolina and voter intimidation in Texas. Tim has worked for The PBS NewsHour, Unapix Entertainment, Newsweek Productions, Docere Digital Studios and MSNBC, where he executive produced their documentaries and series. He has also produced for HBO, NBC, A&E, National Geographic Channel, CNBC, History Channel, AMC as well as NHK, BBC, Channels 4&5, CBC, SABC & TV Global. THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER MSNBC'S Joy-Ann Reid calculates the true price of the Trump presidency "The host of AM Joy on MSNBC argues that President Trump’s administration is characterized by grift and venality that demeans the office and diminishes America.” —New York Times Book Review, “New & Notable” Is Donald Trump running the “longest con” in U.S. history? How did we get here? What will be left of America when he leaves office? Candidate Trump sold Americans a vision that was seemingly at odds with their country’s founding principles. Now in office, he’s put up a “for sale” sign—on the prestige of the presidency, on America’s global stature, and on our national identity. At what cost have these deals come? Joy-Ann Reid's essential new book, The Man Who Sold America, delivers an urgent accounting of our national crisis from one of our foremost political commentators.

Steve Cooper talks with comic/writer Mike Dugan. Mike has written on television series, pilots, or specials for a long list of comedians, including Dennis Miller, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Tom Arnold, Paul Rodriguez, Stephanie Miller, Rich Hall and even George Hamilton. He received, along with five other writers, an Emmy Award for writing on the first season of 'Dennis Miller: Live' on HBO. The show's writers were also nominated for Cable Ace and Writers Guild of America Awards. While in London he also co-created with Rich Hall the BBC TV show "Rich Hall's Badly Funded Think Tank". A move to Los Angeles quickly led to a shot on 'The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson'. Johnny raved, and that debut has led to over seventy national television appearances, including one more spot on "Johnny" before his retirement and another appearance with Jay Leno - making him one of only a handful of comics to have appeared on 'The Tonight Show' with both Johnny and Jay. His stand up and hosting has been a favorite at corporate events for companies the likes of Oracle, Xerox, Christian Brothers, Bank of America and Visa to name just a few. He has also lent his talents to many great causes, having performed or hosted at benefits for The American Red Cross, Katrina Relief, Pepsi All Stars for Sickle Cell Anemia, San Jose Ballet, United Cerebral Palsy, Quake Relief with Crosby Stills and Nash, American Cancer Society and many more.
In this week’s episode of Saturday Morning Deathgrip, the gang is once again tortured by another of Giancarlo’s terrible suggestions – My Little Pony Tales. At this point, we’re relatively certain that Giancarlo’s entire being goes against the Geneva Convention. And, as soon as this post goes live, we will look into having him charged with some war crimes. Fortunately, while we’re getting Giancarlo deported to The Hague, you can feast your ears on scintillating discussions regarding horse menstruation, the origins of Plessy vs. Ferguson and the (obvious) sex appeal of centaurs. You’d be surprised how easy it was for us to string together such seemingly disparate topics (actually, if you’re an avid listener, you would not)! Additionally, our interview segment features the illustrious Rita HAYworth and Mr. C. Biscuit, the Oprah and Sumner Redstone of the horse and pony media world. Despite having a bevy of Cable Ace awards under their saddles, they clearly have very little understanding of how the human world interacts with horses. And, spoiler alert: one of them has major gastrointestinal issues (hint: it’s Rita). Thanks so much for listening! Once again, you can stream SMDG via iTunes, Stitcher or our own lovely little website. And if our blog and podcast leave you salivating for more, you can follow us on Twitter @SMDGpodcast.
