Episode Summary Welcome back to the show!  Today Erica interviews Annie Robert - viral mommy TikTocker. Annie shares all about making people around the world laugh, as well as about her recent recovery from alcohol addiction during COVID.  Today we discuss the close and often dangerous relationship between women and alcohol. What often starts as clear lines, can escalate quickly into very blurry. Our "Mommy juice," and "Mommy needs her wine" culture does not serve women.   In This Episode Annie, firstly, tell us a little bit about your background, how you grew up, a little bit about what your childhood and teen years were like. Can you take us back to the time where your drinking went from in check, to not in check? How did you know that line had eroded? Were you hiding your drinking? I have heard from many women with addiction on my blog over the years, and most of them describe hiding it from their friends or family.  Can you describe the moment you made the decision to get sober? I imagine there were many moments, as alcoholism or any addiction is tricky. For our listeners who may be teetering on that line, what are some signs your drinking isn't in check? What advice would you have for women who may be on that slippery slope. Okay let's lighten things up. You make moms laugh. Hard! How did that start? Because I am a content creator, I am always curious with how talented people come up with content. Take us through that process. Tell me about this competition. You are ripped, Annie! What made you decide to do it, and I see you enjoy mustard? Is it hard to be so disciplined?  You're a married working mom of 4 daughters! How do you juggle it all? Any tips? Annie, what would u tell your younger self What's still on your bucket list?   About Annie Robert Sarcastic girl Mama, fitness enthusiast, sober but will still pour you a glass of wine.  Links Annie Robert Learn More about Your Host Teaching women how to prioritize self-care, Erica Diamond is a Certified Life Coach and Certified Yoga & Meditation Teacher, Lifestyle and Parenting Correspondent on Global TV,Founder of Bliss Essential (BlissEssential.co), Professional Speaker, Host of The Erica Diamond Podcast, Course Creator of Busy To Bliss (BusyToBliss.com), Author of the women's entrepreneurial book 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before Starting Their Own Business, and Founder & Editor-In-Chief of the Award-Winning Lifestyle Platform EricaDiamond.com® (previously WomenOnTheFence.com®), Erica Diamond has been named to the coveted list of The Top 20 Women in Canada, FORBES Magazine's Top 100 Sites for Women and a Profit Hot 50 Canadian Company. The Erica Diamond Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 5, 2021 39:57

Episode Summary Welcome back to the show! I've got to admit, I am a little starstruck by my guest today. My story with today's guest dates back to March 2020— COVID 19 virus rears its ugly head. We are brought literally to our knees with global instability, struggling economies, people being hospitalized and even dying alone not able to be surrounded by their loved. Let's take a moment to realized the trauma we have been living through -it has been a really difficult year. And despite being a meditation teacher and a meditation student for almost twenty years, I started to struggle a little with sleep at the beginning of coronavirus. As a meditation teacher on Insight Timer myself, and user of the Breethe meditation app, I was familiar with Glenn Harrold's meditations and hypnotherapies, but when my sleep started to change at the beginning of COVID, I rediscovered Glenn, and consistently, I mean religiously started meditating 7 nights a week without fail to his hynotherapies and meditations before bed. My sleep became so deep and so restorative that my husband started asking me what was going on, “You close your eyes Erica and you don't even so much as move until the morning!” Thank you Glenn!   In This Episode  Take us back to the beginning. How did you find meditation and hypnosis? How did you become interested in this field as your passion and career? What is meditation because many people don't truly understand what it is What are the benefits of having a daily practice?  Let's talk about hypnosis. The idea scares many people. What actually is hypnosis and why is it so important to overcome issues that people struggle with - addiction, anxiety, weigh loss, smoking? If someone is feeling stressed or overwhelmed, what are a few things they can start doing now as far as meditation or hypnotherapy? How can anyone start a meditation practice? What's a few of the most common things you hear about meditation? I know I hear, "I'm not a meditation person," or "I can't quiet my mind." (What are some misconceptions about meditation?) My girlfriend who is a Glenn groupie asked me to ask you two questions. Number 1, can you do a 963 Hz for the crown chakra? And question 2, will you ever do mini 10-minute meditations for your energy system? Tell us truthfully, do you ever get stressed or anxious? Episode Summary Welcome back to the show. As we approach the closing of Mental Health Awareness Month, today, I have the true privilege of bringing you one of the most compassionate, kind, and intelligent souls I have connected with in a long time. Alon is very special. He is young, but you will agree that he is wise beyond his 20 years. I won't give anything away and how Alon finally embraced his sexuality, overcame mental health struggles and is now healing the world through love and vulnerability. Let's dive right in!   In This Episode  What was life like for you growing up for you? Give us a sense of your environment?  Talk to me about what it was like growing up a gay teen in America. As a society, we have definitely become more progressive, and thank goodness for our world finally embracing that love is love. But I know that you say your dad's reaction was saddening. And that really hurts my heart. Talk to me about that. This all goes with one of my favourite quotes —"the truth sets you free." I know what struggling in silence and what secrets do to your heart. Talk to me what that felt like when you set your truth free? Perfect time to lead us into vulnerability and what vulnerability does not only for the person, but for us as a society? Can you speak to this? When did you first notice that you were struggling with depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation? What were some of the warning signs? If someone is struggling right now, how can they reach out for help? What would be their first step? What is the first thing someone can do if they are struggling in ways that feel beyond their own control? What would you advise them to do? You're only 20. What are your plans for this wonderful life? I'm still going to ask you what you would tell your younger self because your soul is mature and I have a feeling you've learned a lot.   About Alon Fishman Alon Fishman is an inspirational speaker and Psychology student at the University at Buffalo. Having overcome years of anxiety, depression, suicidality, and more; he has made it his mission to eradicate suicide while also uniting the world through unconditional love.  Alon has recognized that humans share one consciousness and through his discoveries has opened up the door for internal dialogues that have held us back for so long; to be spoken up about. Alon is determined that through vulnerable communication, people will feel less alone; one conversation at a time.   Links Alon Fishman on Instagram   Learn More about Your Host Teaching women how to prioritize self-care, Erica Diamond is a Certified Life Coach and Certified Yoga & Meditation Teacher, Lifestyle and Parenting Correspondent on Global TV, Professional Speaker, Host of The Erica Diamond Podcast, Course Creator of Busy To Bliss, Author of the women's entrepreneurial book 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before Starting Their Own Business, and Founder & Editor-In-Chief of the Award-Winning Lifestyle Platform EricaDiamond.com® (previously WomenOnTheFence.com®). Episode Summary Welcome to Season 3 of The Erica Diamond Podcast! Today's episode is care of a social media app that you might have heard me speak about a lot lately. Yup, you guessed it, Clubhouse! What I love about this app is, you can photoshop your wrinkles, or you can filter out your cellulite on Instagram, but you can't photoshop your soul, or your voice. Voices and vibes don't often lie. When I hear Dana speak, her energy literally jumps out of my phone. On today's episode, Dana (pronounced Donna) is here to teach us how to gain confidence, how to show up and speak up. Today's episode is about how to find our voice and how to shine in social media and in life. In This Episode  To understand the fireball that you are today, we have to go back to the beginning. Talk to me about your childhood. You shared something very vulnerable recently about how you grew up as a little girl. Maybe you can share how you think that impacted the woman you are today. You help people gain confidence and show up for their lives. What can you share for our listeners who say “I wish I had Donna's confidence. How can I get me some?" What would you say to them? Please share some tips. Talk to me about your thoughts on being vulnerable and why that's such an integral part of success. One would think vulnerability is weakness. Talk to me about its strength. What have your learned by showing up on Instagram every single day for the past few years. What have you learned about people? For our female entrepreneurs or women who have to show up on camera on social media for their businesses, or who even have to public speak as part of their jobs, WHAT ARE YOUR BEST TIPS to present, to be a great speaker and show up as naturally as you do? Talk to me work life balance or as I like to call it worklife harmony. How do you make it all happen? Let's talk Clubhouse, and let's tell everyone why they should be there! This new app is so intimate, it lets us get so close to someone, that you feel like you're literally sitting next to them. I stumbled in a room recently on Clubhouse, and there I heard Cheryl Rich. I heard her share her life's story and tears were literally streaming down my face. Cheryl was pregnant at 11 years old. At 18 years old, her only child, Eric, was killed in a car accident. After a treacherous journey through drug addiction, prison and “self-induced-hell,” Cheryl rose from the ashes with brutal courage and fierce determination to overcome some of life's most mind-shattering tragedies. I felt her pain as she spoke, and yet I felt her resilience and her triumph and her power.  I reached out to her and asked her if she would share her story with you-- our beloved listeners. Well, I'm so grateful she said yes. Enjoy our very candid, and very intimate and raw interview. In This Episode  Take me back to your childhood. What was the mental shift in your mind that had to take place for you to go from victim to thriving survivor. Talk to me about the role of forgiveness as part of your recovery. CIP S1 E11 - Interview with Emma Goerzen of Hire Standard www.canadianimmigrationpodcast.com In this episode we will discuss one of the most common questions I get from people who are looking to immigrate to Canada. How can I obtain a job offer from a Canadian company? Why is this important? When applying to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker, the most common process is Express Entry. [Explain how Express Entry works] History of EE Process for Candidates Ranking System Importance of an LMIA supported Job Offer Job Matching (eHarmony for employers/employees) terribly ineffective In my practice, I do not do any recruiting for companies, nor assist foreign nationals in finding jobs with companies. My law practice is focused exclusively on Canadian Immigration Because I spend a lot of time explaining to people that I can not help them with finding a job, I figured that the best thing I could do would be to bring in an expert in this field. In todays Podcast I have the pleasure of interviewing a good friend, Emma Goerzen. Emma is the co-owner of Hire Standard - Southern Alberta's Premier Executive Staffing & Background Screening Firm, specializing in criminal record checks, reference checks, employment, education & credit/ID verification along with temporary staffing & special project placement Emma and her Team at Hire Standard are extremely knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the hiring process. In fact, I recently used them to fill an important position within our firm and we were absolutely delighted with the result. I have worked with Emma in the past on obtaining LMIAs for companies here in Alberta that have had to source TFWs to fill labour shortages. Our firm has handled the LMIA process and Emma was retained by the company to source the foreign worker and manage the nightmarish recruitment campaign which includes the strict advertising requirements of Service Canada that are mandatory to obtain an LMIA. In this episode of the Podcast, Emma is going to share some insight into the hiring process in Canada. She is going to offer some tips and strategies for foreign nationals who are looking to land that coveted LMIA based Job Offer with a Canadian company and a golden ticket to receiving an ITA within the Express Entry System. So let's jump into the interview with Emma Right now. INTERVIEW I'm here in my office today with a good friend and colleague Emma Goerzen. Emma is the Co-Owner of Hire Standard, Sothern Alberta's premier executive staffing and background screening firm. Welcome Emma. Thanks for joining me today. Tell us a little bit about Hire Standard. What do you do ? Hire Standard – Permanent Staffing & Background Screening: http://www.hire-standard.com Whether you're looking for an Executive Member of your team or a Temporary employee to make sure your business doesn't stop, our commitment to fit and quality never waivers. Benefits of working with us include: Process: We hold fast to our stringent prescreening process – it serves as a series of checkpoints from which applicants either pass through or fall off. Insight: Our staff have the insight to weed out resumes that an untrained eye may be overwhelmed or deceived by. Dedication: We will leave no stone unturned. We want to find the best employee for your company and we work diligently until we do Tempo: We pride ourselves on our ‘dog on a bone' work style. We recognize that most quality employees, a.) don't stay unemployed for long and b.) don't want to work for an employer that drags their heels. Experience: We are familiar with the local market and types of applicants you are likely to receive. Based on our experience we can narrow down the candidates in a short time so you only see the best. Back Up: We offer a 3 Month Replacement Guarantee to ensure that everyone is comfortable and confident. Top 5 List of Things a Foreign National can do to improve their chances of getting a Job Offer. Look for Jobs in the right places Friends and Family – best source Online Websites: Job Bank Job Match Registration (eHarmony) Monster Workopolis Kijiji.ca Indeed Industry Associations – appropriate to credentials Ability to Communicate in English Excellent communication skills, written, spoken etc. Same Standard applies to Canadians as well Talk about HT recruitment and excluded candidates due to poor English – written etc. Safety Issue Good Resume – this is what grabs the attention of the company Not too long – no more than 2 pages Outlining Education and Experience that is relevant to the position Stable work history Grammatically Correct (demonstrate good English on your resume) SHOW NOTES: include sample of a great Canadian resume Honesty and Integrity – much fraud in order to get the job, so lack of trust can be fatal be up front about any potential issues – if have necessary skills and experience, Canadian companies will work with that, but if you are dishonest, you will be rejected. Talk about guy from Costa Rica Prior refused visa, but not disclosed to us Resulted in his rejection as a candidate – after we obtained LIA Must present well in an Interview Setting (Skype Interviews) Must have good internet connectivity to support Skype interviews (reflection on person) Communication Skills (speak English) Know about the Canadian Company – do your research Dress Appropriately – t-shirt saying “I love cannabis” probably not the best women – don't show cleavage Thanks so much Emma.
