Rick Tocchet made a number of changes at Canucks practice today, the day after a 4-3 home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Arshdeep Bains took Nils Hoglander's spot on the second line with Elias Pettersson and Connor Garland, while Erik Brannstrom was paired with Noah Juulsen, leaving Vincent Desharnais to reunite with Derek Forbort. Forbort returned to practice after the unfortunate death of his father.
After a small practice skirmish between Elias Pettersson and JT Miller, Matt and Blake talk about what may have brought that to the surface, if anything. We also hear from Pettersson as he has an icy exchange with the media afterwards, and the Canucks make some roster moves ahead of Saturday's game. Patrick Johnston of The Province weighs in on the exchange between the two Canucks stars, and on Pettersson's game overall given the lack of goals. Plus, PJ talks about the latest Thatcher Demko signing and what it means for his return. Then it's The Daily Hive's Rob Williams turn to react to the practice news, but also on Connor Garland's newfound role in the top 6, and on the increasing prevelance of the Canucks skate logo, including on the ice for almost half of the remaining home games. All that, plus a full recap on the Whitecaps enormous road playoff win in Portland, and a look ahead to their series with LAFC.(53:55) Patrick Johnston of the Province(72:51) Rob Williams of the Daily Hive(91:58) Final segment with Matt and Blake

LIVE from Hudsons Canada's Pub on Whyte Ave, Tom Gazzola & former Oilers goalie Joaquin Gage recap what happened in game 4 of the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks series! Joaquin Gage joined to break down the play of Calvin Pickard and what he looked like during his first NHL Playoff start. He then looked at the Oilers defencemen and how they protected the front of the net. Gager thinks the Oilers in their zone and the offensive zone were a step ahead. After some discussion, the boys head into the locker room to hear from the man who has had a point in all 9 playoff games thus far, Leon Draisaitl. We also hear from Kris Knoblauch, Mattias Ekholm, Calvin Pickard and Evan Bouchard throughout the show. Gager and Tommy continue on to talk about some potential "sleeping giants" on the Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers. Gazzola brings up Connor Brown while Gager sheds some light on the veteran Corey Perry. After hearing from Calvin Pickard, Gager shared his thoughts on what he had to say after getting the win in goal. We then hear from the other side from Rick Tocchet! Zachticum then breaks down 'The Big Save of the Game' presented by Christopher Boyle where Zach gives it to Arturs Silovs when he made a series of saves on the powerplay. Zach then lays down the 'Player of the Game' presented by Damon Bunting where he goes to the many who started and won his first career playoff start in the NHL! Tom Gazzola closes the show out by looking at a few texts and into the Nasty Chat! GAME SUMMARY: In the first period, both teams put on the pressure with the Oilers being the only team to capitalize doing so off the stick of Leon Draisaitl on the powerplay. During the first frame, Evander Kane took a 4-minute minor with a crosscheck against Tyler Myers and the Oilers were able to kill it off. In the second period, both teams had their chances and extended zone pressure but the offensive zone play went in favour of the Edmonton Oilers where Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored in the 39th minute of the game right before the break. Entering the third period, the Oilers were gifted another powerplay but Vancouver was able to kill it thanks to some game-savers by Arturs Silovs. Connor Garland from the slot with about 13 minutes left in the period made it a one-goal game. After scoring their first of the game, the Canucks continued ticking up their zone time pouring on more shots towards Pickard. During one moment down the stretch, Arturs Silovs played chicken with Evander Kane to deny him a rush on goal. To try and tie the game, the Vancouver Canucks pulled their goalie with 2:30 left. With Silovs pulled, Elias Petterson won a faceoff against Derek Ryan and Brock Boeser was able to rip it towards the net and tie it with a bounce off a body in front with the rubber getting in off the heel of Dakota Joshua. The two clubs grinded it out in the last minute with Draisaitl going to work in the Canucks zone where he sent it to the point for Bouchard to take the lead once again.
To start the show, Dusty and Lt. Eric recap what happened during the game and how their night was at Hudson's on Bourbon Street. Then the boys lay out the show. To recap what happened last night, Dusty gave his 'Morning Announcements' presented by 100.3 The BEAR! Lt. Eric and Dustin Nielson dive into 'The Morning After Show' for E.M. Utility Locating! For the EST Big Moment Eric picked the 39-second stretch where Zadorov and Garland scored for the Canucks to take the lead. Dusty picks the Nuge post as he thinks that would've given the Oilers a very good chance to keep in it. The Super Stat of the Night was the special teams and Zach Hyman scored 2 goals. The PK went 3/3 for the night and the Oilers scored on the powerplay. Three stars were Dakota Joshua, Nikita Zadorov and Zach Hyman. LTE's fourth star went to Connor Garland with the winner. For the 35th, 36th, 37th and 38th star, Dusty went to Mattias Janmark, Nurse, Ceci and Skinner for their bad play. The Steady Eddie of the Night went to Zach Hyman and HM Mattias Ekholm. We then hear the voice of Kris Knoblauch and what he had to say after the game. Kris Knoblauch said that the Canucks DIDN'T outplay the Oilers in the second half... The boys then play 'We Built This Smitty' to try and take away the pain fans are feeling this morning. Each Nielson Show song is presented by Sportball!
During the second hour, Luke Gazdic joins the show as the 'Pro Am Sports Big Guest of the Day.' He breaks down the game saying that the Canucks were over-respecting the Edmonton Oilers and that the Canucks progressed throughout the game to shut down McDavid and the rest of their top players. Gaz then takes a look at Stuart Skinner and his poor start in game one. He says that some of the goals against Skinner weren't completely his fault besides Connor Garland. Besides that, he didn't look too much into it but eludes to the fact that teams aren't going to win if they let in 5 goals. After having Mattias Janmark on the top line, Gazdic thinks that the Oilers should have Foegele on the third line, Holloway on the first line and keep Janmark as a depth player. Luke Gazdic thinks the third line isn't the best and that Holloway is one of the only players on the Oilers who can match McDavid's speed. After wrapping up with the Oilers, Gaz shares his thoughts on the Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins series. Tons of hits in that game and highlights the physicality and playstyle of the Panthers. They shoot, finish checks and play a different brand of hockey. Gaz thinks the Panthers will take the series. He then moves on to the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche series saying that this next game is a huge one for the Stars. Gaz didn't make a specific pick but he thinks that the Avalanche are insanely quick and only getting better. He finishes up by sharing his enjoyment of being on Sportsnet and how it doesn't feel like a job. Afterwards, the boys head into 'The Paris Jewellers Inbox' for some texts from fans. Dusty then makes his play for the 'Coolbet Hotline of the Day' going to the Dallas Stars at +128! We hear this year's playoff song to try and hype people up for a game 2 bounce back. Oh boy, Lt. Eric and Dusty cook during 'I Got Beef' for the ACME Meats where Dusty touches on the fact that people truly think the Canucks vs Oilers series is over after game one and also the fact that Matthew Iwanyk STOLE a cheese curd from Dusty's poutine.

It was a night of milestones for Vancouver as Arturs Silovs is put to his biggest test yet in the NHL against the Vegas Golden Knights... and as he seems to do at every level, the kid won. Silovs improves to 3-0 on the season, Connor Garland plays his 400th game in the NHL and JT Miller reaches 100 points for the first time. All these are impressive numbers, but the biggest milestone in the hearts of Canucks fans on this night was Brock Boeser reaching 40 goals! Jeff Paterson and Irfaan Gaffar have lots to break down from this 4-3 victory over VGK on this episode of RinkWide Vancouver. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

On this episode of the "House of Hockey" Podcast, Rae and her guest co-host Joe Cangelosi, dive deep into the latest NHL news, PWHL news and share candid opinions on the hottest topics in the hockey world. Joe is a two-time guest of the podcast and a former pro hockey player most recently playing for the Carolina Thunderbirds. We dive right into the NHL frenzy, starting with the Florida Panthers vs. Carolina Hurricanes showdown that seemed to involve everyone throwing punches. And speaking of fights, who could forget Brandon Tanev of the Seattle Kraken taking on Connor Garland of the Vancouver Canucks? And let's not overlook the confrontation between Bobrovsky and Tkachuk, adding more fuel to the fire in the NHL rivalry department. But the drama doesn't stop there. We discuss the rollercoaster week for the NY Rangers' Matthew Rempe, from his eventful first game on the outdoor rink to controversial hits and game-winning goals. Plus, Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs reaches a milestone with 50 goals this season in his home state of Arizona, while the Arizona Coyotes face controversy with Adam Ruzicka's contract termination after a troubling social media post. In AHL, we celebrate the Rochester Americans' unique initiative of putting nicknames on jerseys for a good cause, and goaltender Jaxson Stauber's impressive night for the Rockford Icehogs. The PWHL takes center stage with the historic Battle on Bay Street at Scotiabank Arena, where Montreal faced off against Toronto in front of the largest pro women's hockey crowd ever expected and the newest sponsor of the league. We also delve into the lighter side of hockey fandom with a social media viral video call-out involving a disgruntled Toronto Leafs fan and a tossed hat. The sky is officially falling, and Jeff Paterson was on site at Climate Pledge Arena to see it live. Sure, Vancouver is still in first place overall in the NHL, but the team is definitely in need of some re-alignment as Vancouver loses a 4th straight tonight in Seattle. JT Miller opened the scoring tonight and it was all downhill from there. Connor Garland even tried to fight Brandon Tanev to get his team going, and that was a brutal fail as well. Canucks will host Boston back at home for an early game on Saturday and look to put an end to their first real losing skid of the season. Jeff Paterson and Farhan Lalji host. Each and every day another intriguing fantasy hockey angle pops up across the NHL that warrants attention - especially when it happens to be doing down with a team in the top spot in the NHL. Such is the case with the Vancouver Canucks, the team that currently finds itself sitting with 78 points and the first place designation atop the NHL. A lot of that success has to do with the Canucks ability to roll four lines, big shoutout and fantasy stick tap to their third line of Dakota Joshua, Teddy Blueger, and Connor Garland. We also discuss the appealing of Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly to his five-game suspension for clubbing Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig, the boys quickly discuss that situation and finish the show with a look into what to do with the sudden surge in fantasy hockey value with Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, who is on a six-game goal streak. We also touch on Connor McDavid's sensational six-assist night against Detroit and the chances Edmonton Oilers have of winning the Stanley Cup.Thanks for making Locked On Fantasy Hockey your 1st listen, every day. Before we get to the mini 2-game NHL betting board for Friday, Flip and Steele have a lot to discuss from around the NHL fantasy hockey world, including the mega signing of Owen Power by the Buffalo Sabres, only a few days removed from doing the same with fellow blue-liner Rasmus Dahlin. We also take a look at the immediate impact of Chicago Blackhawks forward Taylor Hall and L.A. Kings winger Viktor Arvidsson, both will miss a couple of weeks of action which means most fantasy hockey GMs out there will already have to get smart with their lineups and perhaps even take a look at the fantasy hockey waiver wire for some assistance. Finally, before our bets for Friday's NHL betting board, we discuss the interesting situation already developing with the Edmonton Oilers goaltending situation after getting lit up by Brock Boeser and the Vancouver Canucks in their opening game, plus what is Connor Garland's value as a piece on the move? Thanks for making Locked On Fantasy Hockey your 1st listen, every day. The World Hockey Championship wrapped up over the weekend with Canada topping Germany in the gold medal game, however, the story of the tournament revolved around the plucky Latvian team that against all odds beat the United States in the bronze medal game, giving Latvia its first ever medal at a World Hockey Championship. With his MVP performance in the IIHF World Hockey Championships, is goaltender Arturs Silovs ready to back up Thatcher Demko on the Vancouver Canucks? Our Thursday regular, Scott Rintoul joined Matt and Blake. Talked about JT Miller. Believes that his value won’t necessarily decrease as the deadline looms, Talked about Bo Horvat. Says his numbers aren’t for a lack of effort. The leadership changes with the times. Talked about Connor Garland. If this is a team that gets into the playoffs, this is a player that would show up. Talked about how the forwards should be deployed. Talked about the Whitecaps. Talked about the importance of hand size for QB’s. Says this isn’t a thing and it’s so much to do about nothing. Whitecaps Colour Commentator, Colin Miller joined Matt and Blake ahead of the weekend clash vs NYCFC. Says the Caps have to be at their best vs the defending champions. We need to see more aggression and passion for the jersey. Talked about how they should deploy tactically. Thinks Hasal is going to be a good goalkeeper. Doesn’t think he is a defined number one keeper yet. For the most part he hasn’t let the club down. When you’ve had one of the top 2 or 3 keepers in the league then put a young lad in, it’s the deep end. Saying they need a better keeper isn’t a criticism of Hasal but someone with more experience wouldn’t be a bad thing. Talked about being a member of the only Canadian team to qualify for the world cup. Tony Waiters only took 18 players down and he was one of the four that were left in Vancouver. Talked about this version of the mens national team on the verge of qualification. This is arguably the most entertaining Canada side. Says the timing is good with other teams in the region being so poor. Talked about John Herdman. Says he is the best at detail. Working with him, you think you are going to war with how much preparation there is.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 175, Season 3 of Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home. Today we recap the Detroit Red Wings 2021-22 home opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Saturday matchup with the Vancouver Canucks. The Detroit Red Wings got out to a huge 6-3 lead against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but talent, circumstance, and being short-handed (in more ways than one) led to a tremendous comeback and win for the defending Stanley Cup Champs. Tyler Bertuzzi got off to an extremely hot start with 4 goals that rocked the Little Caesars Arena crowd and threw them into a frenzy. Moritz Seider also walked away with 2A in his first game and finished with a solid 20 minutes of ice time. We'll also discuss the roller coaster of a game for Alex Nedeljkovic, the Marc Staal mistakes, and Gustav Lindstrom clearly earning his role over Troy Stecher and Jordan Oesterle. The Red Wings defeat the Vancouver Canucks 3-1. Robby Fabbri and Filip Zadina each scored with Sam Gagner chipping in an Empty Net Goal. The 1st star of the game was Thomas Greiss, who stopped 40 of 41 shots. Filip Zadina was also hurt in the game but did return. He was checked by Connor Garland and went down in a heap. Filip Hronek went after Garland for most of the game following the incident. We discuss the chippiness of the Detroit Red Wings games so far and if the Red Wings are developing an identity.
