In this episode, we're joined by Tricia Walker, who co-wrote the song covered by The Corrs, 'Looking in the Eyes of Love', a track closely connected to the writing and production era of Talk on Corners.Tricia takes us back to her roots in Mississippi, growing up along Highway 61 in the heart of the Delta. Classically trained and raised on soul, blues, and gospel, she shares how an early love of music and poetry led her to pursue songwriting seriously. In 1980, she packed up and moved to Nashville, entering a music industry that operated long before email, digital demos, or social media. We explore what Nashville was like in the 1980s and 1990s, how the co writing culture worked, and how songs were pitched, recorded, and circulated in a pre-digital world. At the centre of our conversation is the song 'Looking in the Eyes of Love', originally intended for Talk on Corners but ultimately not included on the final track list. The song would, thankfully for us, find its official release as a bonus track on In Blue in the year 2000. Tricia shares with us how the song came to be written, what it was like to see it covered by a number of artists in the industry, and we discuss how it eventually became part of The Corrs story. At 00:21:46, you can hear a clip of the original 1989 female vocal demo for 'Looking in the Eyes of Love' as sung by Tricia Walker. At 00:37:39, you can hear a clip of the Corrs version of the song as released on the special edition of 'In Blue'.A photo of the Grammy Award certificate Tricia has hung proudly on her wall can be seen at the following link HERETricia's website can be found at: www.bigfrontporch.com and her work with Delta Deep Roots can be seen and heard via www.deltadeeproots.comThis work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.CorrsCast.comInstagramTwitterFacebookDiscordPatreon#CorrsCast on social media.#TheCorrsPlease subscribe, rate and review CorrsCast on iTunes or a platform of your choosing. We love a good road trip, whether they're planned or not. On this episode of Behind the Mitten, we head out with our portable mics to see what we can find as we travel north of Grand Rapids along the 131 corridor. Located about forty minutes north of GR, Howard City is a small village with a popular destination restaurant.  The Forager draws diners from all over for their Great Lakes focused cuisine. We first visited this spot during our search for Michigan's Best Bloody Mary, back when it was under a different name and ownership. We get the scoop on what's on the menu now, and how this vibrant place is both a hot spot for the community as well as welcoming guests from all over.Another stop on our long-ago search for bloody mary's comes up next when we stop a bit further up 131 at Logger's Landing in Luther Michigan. This is a popular, classic, 'up north' style bar that is busy no matter the season. Just steps from multiple snowmobile trails, you'll find all sorts here, as well as excellent pizza. No, you probably aren't that tipsy, it's really just the wooden floor here at Logger's. Next, we head to Mesick, where we make two stops. One is at a fabulous gas station that you may have driven by multiple times on your way to TC, and we'll share why you really should make a stop at Ellen's Corners, located just outside of Mesick where M-37 and M-115 meet at the roundabout. And then head up the road to the Bucksnort Bar in town, where you'll find tasty burgers, a dance floor, and new friends.

The Hidden Costs of Cheap SEO: Why Your Social Business Can't Afford to Cut Search Corners with Favour Obasi-ike

We Don't PLAY

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 1, 2026 109:29

In this eye-opening episode of the We Don't PLAY! Podcast, host Favour Obasi-ike, MBA, MS dismantles the myth of "cheap SEO." Joined by guests Dr. Fashion, Austin, John, and Celese, the conversation exposes the significant long-term damage that corner-cutting SEO practices can inflict on a business. Favour emphasizes that SEO is not a one-time fix but a long-term investment in your brand's digital foundation. The episode draws a powerful analogy, comparing cheap SEO to building a house with substandard materials — a structure doomed to fail. The discussion highlights the stark difference between unethical "black hat" tactics, which lead to severe penalties from search engines like Google, and the sustainable growth achieved through ethical, "white hat" strategies. Dr. Fashion shares an inspiring personal story of how her commitment to quality SEO on her YouTube channel led to incredible success, enabling her to purchase her mother's childhood home. The episode is a masterclass for any business owner, marketing professional, or entrepreneur who wants to understand the true value of a robust, strategic, and long-term SEO plan. It's a crucial reminder that in the world of digital marketing, you get what you pay for, and the cost of cheap SEO is ultimately a price too high to pay for any business serious about growth and longevity.Book SEO Services | Quick Links for Social Business>> Book SEO Services with Favour Obasi-ike>> Visit Work and PLAY Entertainment website to learn about our digital marketing services>> Join our exclusive SEO Marketing community>> Read SEO Articles>> Subscribe to the We Don't PLAY Podcast>> Purchase Flaev Beatz Beats Online>> Favour Obasi-ike Quick LinksKey Takeaways1. Cheap SEO is a Myth: Low-cost SEO services often use harmful "black hat" techniques that can get your website penalized by Google, costing you more in the long run.2. SEO is a Long-Term Investment: Sustainable SEO is not about quick fixes. It's about consistently building a strong online presence through high-quality content and ethical practices.3. Quality SEO Drives Real-World Results: As demonstrated by Dr. Fashion's story, a well-executed SEO strategy can lead to significant financial success and brand authority.4. A Holistic Approach is Essential: Effective SEO encompasses more than just keywords. It includes website design, user experience, content quality, and technical optimization.5. Inaction is Expensive: In a competitive digital landscape, not investing in SEO means being invisible to your target audience and losing ground to your competitors.6. Understand the Value You're Paying For: Be wary of SEO providers who make grand promises without clear, measurable results. A reputable expert will provide a transparent and strategic plan.7. SEO is a Way of Life: Favour makes the point that search is a fundamental human behavior. Applying this mindset to your business's digital strategy is key to success.Memorable Quotes[01:04 - 01:17] "The cost of cheap SEO is to the point where you know when you hear something has been done but it has been done poorly. It's like trying to build a house and then you use the wrong sand, you use the wrong brick, you use the wrong everything." — Favour Obasi-ike[22:40 - 22:59] "SEO works, y'all. It's a long-term game. You don't want to enjoy the shade before building or planting the seed. We have to follow the rule. We have to abide by the law. There's a procedure. There's seed, there's time, there's harvest. We can't harvest without planting a seed." — Favour Obasi-ike[67:24 - 67:41] "If you have a business, you should have a podcast...it's a 24/7, 365 marketing platform for you. It's another place where people can search and be discovered." — John[26:20 - 26:31] "When you think about SEO, it boils down to two things. You're either focusing on branded queries, which is your business name, your brand name, the name that people know you for, or you're focusing on non-branded queries." — Favour Obasi-ike[45:53 - 46:02] "If everyone did SEO correctly, we'd have a better search experience, to be honest. 100%, because SEO is not competition. It's search." — Favour Obasi-ikeFAQs1. What is the difference between "black hat" and "white hat" SEO?"Black hat" SEO refers to unethical tactics that violate search engine guidelines to try and rank a site higher, such as buying links or keyword stuffing. "White hat" SEO, on the other hand, focuses on creating high-quality content and a good user experience to earn rankings organically.2. How long does it take to see results from SEO?SEO is a long-term strategy. While some technical fixes can have a quick impact, it typically takes several months to see significant, sustainable results from a comprehensive SEO campaign.3. How to Disable Hot Corners on macOS: and Why you Might Wish to as a VoiceOver User

In this episode, Tyler demonstrates how to disable Hot Corners on macOS.Hot Corners are areas of the screen that perform a specified action when the mouse pointer is hovered over them. As a VoiceOver user who doesn't use the mouse, you might want to configure them to do nothing, so you don't inadvertently cause an action to be performed if you accidentally brush your fingers against the trackpad or use trackpad gestures to control VoiceOver. To do this, go to System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Hot Corners, and make sure the popup menu for each screen corner is set to hyphen (-) rather than any of the actions in the menu.TranscriptDisclaimer: This transcript was generated by AI Note Taker – VoicePen, an AI-powered transcription app. It is not edited or formatted, and it may not accurately capture the speakers' names, voices, or content.Tyler: Hey, AppleVis-ers. Tyler here with a quick tip for how to disable hot corners on macOS. Hot corners are areas of the screen that, when hovered over with the mouse pointer, cause certain functions to be performed, such as locking the screen, starting screensaver, or creating a quick note.Tyler: If you're a voiceover user who doesn't use the mouse, you may want to disable these so you don't inadvertently trigger them in the course of using your Mac, say, if you accidentally brush your fingers on the trackpad or if you use trackpad gestures to control voiceover. To do this, you go into System Settings, Desktop and Dock, click the Hot Corners button, and make sure each of the four corners is set not to perform any action. And I'm going to demonstrate that now on my Mac.VoiceOver: Menu bar Apple. Apple, system settings. System settings. T7, volume, systems, general, window, sidebar.Tyler: D for desktop and dock.VoiceOver: Desktop and dock. Desktop and dock, scroll area.Tyler: Interact with scroll area.VoiceOver: Desktop and dock, scroll area. 77 up.Tyler: And because the Hot Corners button is located near the bottom, I'm going to jump to the bottom of VL Globe, right?VoiceOver: Help button.Tyler: VL left.VoiceOver: Hot Corners button.Tyler: Hot Corners.VoiceOver: Dialog hyphen top left Hot Corner pop-up button.Tyler: Here we are. So at the top of the dialog, VLGlobe left arrow. Okay, so that's hyphen. And that means that there is nothing, no action bound to that hot corner. But if I go into the pop-up menu. Mission control. Application windows. Desktop. Notification center. Apps. Quick note. Start screensaver. Disable screensaver.Tyler: And hyphen, which is do nothing. So if that corner, the top left corner on your Mac is set to do something else and you don't want it to do that, just change it to hyphen. And if you go VL right, bottom left, same deal.VoiceOver: Choose hyphen.Tyler: And top right is hyphen. Hyphen, bottom right. So if all of these are set to hyphen,Tyler: there will be no actions performed when moving the mouse to the corners of the screen. So no hot corner is active. And when you're done, just feel right again, hit done. Hot corners button. And here you are back in system settings. So that's a quick tip for how to disable hot corners on Mac OS. It's a quick set it and forget it task that can help if you…

The Real Forno Show: JJ McCarthy Middle-of-Field Debate, Anthony Richardson Trade Prediction, and Vikings 7-Round Mock Draft — Tyler Forness and producer Dave discuss reactions to Alec Lewis's reporting about the Vikings removing most middle-of-the-field passing concepts to simplify things for QB J.J. McCarthy, arguing the line is being misinterpreted and lacks nuance because it does not mean all middle-of-field throws were eliminated. They compare the idea of simplification to Kevin O'Connell's approach with Carson Wentz and talk about concerns that someone in the building may be positioning McCarthy as a scapegoat, including speculation that some preferred keeping Sam Darnold. Forness predicts the Vikings will trade for Anthony Richardson, proposing a deal involving pick 97 and pick 161 for Richardson and pick 13, and frames it as a future camp competition between McCarthy and Richardson. The show then shifts to Forness's mock draft tracker methodology and trends from collected industry mocks, before running a seven-round Vikings mock draft after the Richardson trade. The mock includes first-round DT Caleb Banks, second-round CB Chris Johnson, RB Emmett Johnson, S Bud Clark, C Logan Jones, and late-round upside picks including EDGE Patrick Payton, FB/utility Eli Heidenreich, and TE Jare Kack, along with commentary on other prospects and positional value. 00:00 JJ McCarthy ‘Middle of the Field' Panic: What Alec Lewis Actually Reported 03:18 Why Simplifying Kevin O'Connell's Offense Can Help a Young QB 05:42 It's Not ‘Zero Middle': What Michigan Tape & NFL Examples Tell Us 07:29 Carson Wentz Comparison: When the Scheme Works but the QB Won't Pull the Trigger 09:37 Big Prediction: Vikings Trade for Anthony Richardson? Send me a some feedback! In this episode, Mike and Angie explore what it really means to “go to your neutral corners” during conflict. Rather than trying to resolve emotional tension in the heat of the moment, they explain why true resolution begins with individual self-regulation. Conflict isn't solved in the center of the ring — it's resolved in the corners, where each person takes responsibility for their own nervous system. They unpack how projection, financial fear, old wounds, and emotional triggers play out inside relationships — and why nothing outside of you can fix what's stored inside your body. This conversation draws a powerful line between unconscious survival-based reactions and conscious self-mastery, revealing how emotional regulation — not control — creates an unbreakable bond.Key Takeaways1. Conflict Is Resolved in the Corners, Not the Center of the Ring Emotional regulation happens individually before resolution can happen together.2. Your Partner Cannot Clean Up What Lives in Your Nervous System Triggers reveal stored emotional energy — they are not created by the other person.3. Financial Fear, Scarcity, and Emotional Volatility Are Nervous System Patterns External changes do not resolve internal dysregulation.4. You Attract Partners Who Expose What Needs Healing Soul-level relationships trigger growth — not comfort.5. As One Person Evolves, the Relationship Must Evolve Too If consciousness levels diverge, the gap either closes through growth or widens toward separation.Notable Quotes“Everybody thinks that conflict is going to be resolved in the center of the ring. But in reality, conflict is resolved in the corners.”“There is not a damn thing that I can do in that moment to release your anxiety, the anger, the fear, whatever's in there.”“The knife didn't create the juice. The juice was already there. The knife just revealed the juice.”“The only job of the nervous system is to keep you alive.”“It's not always about comfort. It's about growth and growing together.”Call to Action

On this show…we're exploring Air and Light: Clearing Stagnation Without Forcing a Fix, and why sometimes the spaces in our lives that feel overwhelming, forgotten, or beyond repair may not need a dramatic overhaul… they may just need a little air and light. Have you ever walked into a room that's been closed up for years? The air feels thick. The smell is stale. The silence almost hums. You hesitate before stepping in, not because it's dangerous, but because it feels untouched. Undisturbed. Like time stopped there. That's exactly what we were facing with the basement of an old building we own. It hadn't seen the light of day in more than fifty years. Fifty years of stillness. Dust layered like history. Corners that held who-knows-what. And as we stood there talking about what it would take to fix it, clean it, repair it… my father-in-law said something so simple it almost felt too easy. “It just needs a little air and light.” Air and light. Not a demolition plan. Not a complicated formula. Not a weekend of intense problem-solving. Just open the windows. Let it breathe. Let the sun in. And that sentence has stayed with me. Because how many areas of our lives feel like that basement? An old belief about ourselves. A past mistake. A relationship dynamic. A dream we shelved. Something that hasn't seen the light of day in a long time. We assume if it feels heavy, we must attack it. Fix it. Force change. But what if the first step isn't force? What if it's exposure? CHALLENGE: This week, choose one area of your life that has felt stagnant and give it just a little air and light. Don't fix it. Don't overhaul it. Simply expose it. Say it out loud, write it down, or look at it honestly with fresh eyes. Open the window and let it breathe. I Know YOU Can Do It!

The phone lines are burning up tonight as frustrated Packers fans unload on everything from coaching accountability to cornerback attitudes. When one player says he hit all his personal goals while the team missed the playoffs, and another shows genuine humility about his struggles - which one deserves to stay? Tonight's callers dive deep into the uncomfortable reality facing this franchise. We break down why Bisaccia, Stenovich, and Butkus aren't going anywhere despite underwhelming results, and why making excuses isn't the same as making a defense. The cornerback debate gets heated when Chris from Alabama contrasts Nate Hobbs' accountability with Keyshawn Nixon's "I met my goals" mentality - and the numbers might surprise you about who actually played better. Plus, we tackle free agency priorities head-on. Is Justin Fields the answer at backup QB? Can we realistically upgrade at corner when only one rookie outperformed Nixon last year? And what does the Eagles' dysfunction teach us about appreciating what we have in Green Bay? The hard truth: you can't cut your way to a better roster. Somebody has to play, and the math on replacing multiple corners just doesn't work. Subscribe, leave a review, and call in next time to join the conversation. In this episode of the 4 Corners Podcast, we go old school with Dave and Patrick helming the ship. It is the week before the Super Bowl, which typically means a slow news week. This week was no exception, but the guys put in the work to tell you all about the NCAA's ongoing controversies regarding player eligibility and the recent Royal Rumble event. The conversation highlights the absurdities in college sports, particularly the implications of professional players returning to college basketball, and transitions into a detailed analysis of the Royal Rumble, including the winners and the event's overall reception. This week's hosts... Arsenal return from Elland Road with a four-goal win that extends their lead at the top, but the performance itself sparks plenty of debate. The pod breaks down a strange afternoon in Leeds — from a late line-up shock and Bukayo Saka pulling out in the warm-up, to a disjointed opening that gradually turned into set-piece control and second-half authority. There's discussion around Arsenal's reliance on corners, Noni Madueke's growing influence, and why the scoreline ultimately flattered Leeds more than it reflected Arsenal's grip on the game.Attention then turns to Martin Ødegaard's impact off the bench and a wider conversation about control, runners, and whether Arsenal's system is currently helping or hindering their key players. The panel also debates the shift in shape, what the numbers really say about the performance, and why this felt like “business done” rather than a statement win.In Part Two, a major injury update drops live during recording, raising fresh questions about depth and priorities as the season enters a decisive phase. There's also a full Whip Around the Grounds from Matchweek 24, another packed VARse segment dissecting controversial decisions across the league, and a look ahead to Chelsea at the Emirates with Wembley at stake.A routine win on paper — with bigger questions bubbling underneath.Chapters:(00:00) - Arteta's Non-Negotiables Intro(00:54) - Leeds Away: Line-Up Shock & Saka Pulls Out(04:04) - A Scrappy Start & Why Arsenal Looked Dull(06:38) - 0-1 | Set-Piece FC: Zubimendi Breaks the Deadlock(08:42) - 0-2 | Chaos at Corners & Madueke's Growing Influence(12:16) - Second-Half Sloppiness & Missed Kill Shots(15:55) - Odegaard Enters & Instantly Controls the Game(17:11) - 0-3 | Martinelli's Cross, Gyökeres Reacts, Game Over(19:04) - Odegaard Debate: Has He Looked Better Off the Bench?(25:48) - Saka, Runners & The System Problem(30:48) - 0-4 | Jesus Responds: From Net-Negative to Highlight Reel(33:00) - Stats Don't Tell the Story of a 4-0 Win(36:14) - Shape Shift: From 4-3-3 to 4-4-2(42:10) - PT.2 Bombshell: Merino Likely Out for the Season(44:48) - Whip Around the Grounds: Matchweek 24(54:22) - VARse: Brighton, Old Trafford & Villa Park Chaos(01:12:00) - Chelsea Preview: Injuries, Rotation & Wembley Stakes(01:19:20) - Closing

Imbolc has arrived! Even if you're buried under snow right now, spring is undoubtedly working its magic underground. This is a perfect time to tend to the corners in your life that have gotten out of hand over the winter. Save the big house cleansing for spring, in this moment, it's the smaller spaces that call for your attention. Perhaps you have a closet that desperately needs organizing, a desk overflowing with papers, an altar gathering dust, or a pile of craft supplies threatening to take over an entire room. Look for the space that's feeling cluttered or stagnant. If you find that this corner is draining your energy, take this opportunity to tend to it. When the energy inside our homes is restored, we are much better equipped to meet life's needs outside our door. A little tending goes a long way. What am I reading? The Witching moon Manor by Stacy Sivinskihttps://bookshop.org/a/111301/9781668058411The Green Wiccan spell Book by Silja Sil-yahttps://bookshop.org/a/111301/9781782497851https://bookshop.org/shop/witchywomanwalkingWhat's playing on repeat?Raised by Wolves by The Interrupters  What's for dinner?Mediterranean Chickpea Soup2 tablespoons olive oil1 onion1 carrot1 rib celery 1 leek optional2 cloves garlic2 tablespoon tomato paste½ teaspoon dried rosemary or 1 tsp dried oregano4 cups vegetable broth or more to taste2 15 oz cans chickpeas 1½ pounds potatoes peeled and diced 1 15 oz can crushed tomatoes ¾ teaspoon salt or to taste + red pepper flakes and black pepper to taste4 tablespoons grated parmesan or crumbled feta - optionalInstructions:Chop 1 onion, 1 carrot, 1 rib celery, and 2 cloves garlic.Sauté them in a large pot or Dutch oven with 1 leek in 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil oil for 5–10 minutes until soft.Stir in 2 tablespoon tomato paste and ½ teaspoon dried rosemary. If we ever had a genuine democracy (and I would argue we never have) then it is clearly disintegrating now, along with the entire system with which it was entwined.  Everyone agrees we need something new, what we don't necessarily agree on across the board is the design of this new thing.  This week's guests are two people who spend their lives imagining how things might be different, particularly in the US, where even the pretence of democracy has been abandoned. Dr John Izzo is a friend of the podcast. Once an ordained Minister in a Presbyterian Church, he's now a bestselling author, speaker, and thought leader focused on social responsibility and intergenerational integration. He's a a Distinguished Fellow at The Stimson Center in Washington DC, and a Board Member of the Elders Action Network and the Elders Climate Action group. Most notably in terms of what we're talking about here, he's co-host of The Way Forward Regenerative Conversations Podcast on which I heard him speaking to our other guest, Suzette Brooks Masters.  Suzette describes herself as a sometime Cassandra who sees around the corner; a serial social entrepreneur, and a thought leader and strategist in the fields of democracy, governance and futures. She has degrees in Economics from Amherst College and Cambridge University, and a Law degree from Harvard. She has spent much of her working life as a strategist working on immigration, inclusion and democracy. She is currently Senior Fellow and Director of Democracy Innovation at the Democracy Funders Network and Co-Founder of the Federal Foresight Advocacy Alliance.  So listen in for a 3-way conversation on the nature of power, community and change as we move into the new year. John on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/drjohnizzo/John's showreel: https://vimeo.com/248012255?fl=pl&fe=vlJohn's website: www.drjohnizzo.comJohn's YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1adiRng-Ab3d3Wos9pFjAA The Way Forward Regenerative Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-way-forward-regenerative-conversations/id1651941803Episode with Suzette: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-way-forward-regenerative-conversations/id1651941803?i=1000704364583The Way Forward on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@RegenerativeConversationsSuzette on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/suzette-brooks-masters-0614981bDemocracy Funders Network https://www.democracyfundersnetwork.org/Federal Foresight Advocacy Alliance  https://www.ffaa-us.org/Suzette's recent report - Becoming Futures Ready: How Philanthropy can leverage strategic foresight for democracy https://www.democracyfundersnetwork.org/resources/2024/10/3/becoming-futures-ready-how-philanthropy-can-leverage-strategic-foresight-for-democracyIf you'd like to support us, there is a Patreon page, but we're not going to link to it, because, honestly, the best way is to come and join the Accidental Gods Membership: that way you can share in the ideas, the programme that will help you connect to the Web of Life in ways that will last—and you can come to the Gatherings half price.
