Hi everyone, I have Debbie Smith who is the Chief Medical Officer at Swiss Re with me to talk about the trends that she is spotting when it comes to income protection claims. I first met Debbie at the LUCID conference earlier this year and I found her presentation fascinating. So naturally I asked if she could come and share some of her findings with my listeners!Debbie is sharing with us the trend that they are seeing that a higher BMI is often linked to long-term income protection claims. We are talking through what the data is showing, how this can be tricky to fully assess due to differences in medical record keeping and ways that the insurance industry can help people in a preventative and reactive way. The key takeaways:Claims data is showing that there is a link between long term IP claims and higher BMIs.Metabolic syndrome is quickly becoming a key area of focus for a person's long term health. It's important that we try to get the importance of income protection out to younger generations, who can often arrange this before health conditions start to develop.Next time I will be joined by Paul Bevan and Rachel Edwards from Verisk to kick off 2024 with a deep dive into travel insurance underwriting. As you know we love protection insurance and getting as many people as possible to take it out. But, you will hear this time that both of us are very on the fence as to whether we would recommend someone includes TPD in their critical illness cover, or even take it out ourselves. The key takeaways:In 2022 only 70% of TPD claims were successful.Watch out for TPD definitions and exclusions when you are reviewing a client's critical illness cover. It's worthwhile taking that bit of extra time to explain the limitation of TPD to your clients, so that there is less confusion over whether they can make a claim.Next time I will be joined by Debbie Smith from Swiss Re and we will be talking about long term income protection claims and what the statistics are showing us. Roger Mairlot, a retired car mechanic in his 70s, takes center stage in this episode of Seeing Them Live. Renowned for his passionate dedication to live music, Roger's story has attracted the attention of media giants like Vice News, The Guardian, and CBC Radio Canada. With an astonishing personal record of attending over 725 consecutive gigs and accomplishing the feat of attending six gigs in one night at different venues across London, Roger has become an icon in the city's live music scene. His distinctive ornate military jacket, adorned with badges, has earned him the affectionate name "The Gig Slut" from Debbie Smith of the band Blindness.Reflecting on his early music experiences, Roger shares memories of a Joan Baez concert in the 1960s, marking the beginning of his journey through London's rich music scene. The cultural and social aspects of live performances are explored, emphasizing the intimate connection between the audience and the artists. Roger's passion for live music goes beyond attendance; he meticulously documents gig timings and schedules in "The Book of Bands," showcasing his dedication to discovering new bands and genres. The conversation delves into Roger's connection to the Mod Culture, influenced by bands like The Who and The Kinks, and explores his experiences in London's music scene during the 1970s. Notable bands from that era, including Canned Heat and Queen, are mentioned, while Roger reflects on the changing music landscape in the '70s.Roger's transition to retirement in the early 2000s allowed for greater flexibility in attending gigs, leading to a revival of his interest in live music. Charles and Roger discuss the impact of Mod Culture, Roger's favorite band, The Kinks, and his experiences seeing iconic artists like Jimi Hendrix. Roger's signature look, the guard's jacket, is born out of his paper rounds, which he took on to finance his gigging passion during his early waking hours. The episode delves into Roger's mad gigging phase, discussing his gigging routine, how he justified spending money on gigs through his paper round earnings, and the development of detailed schedules for nightly gig adventures. The conversation also touches on Roger's extensive guard's jacket collection and the experiences he had wearing them.In 2014, Roger pushed the limits by attending six gigs in one night, facing challenges in managing multiple venues and early start times. The episode explores Roger's criteria for choosing gigs, post-pandemic changes in the gig scene, and the decline in fan attendance. Despite the challenges, Roger emphasizes the importance of enjoying a gig and shares his diverse taste in music, spanning genres from jazz to chamber rock.BANDS: Adam Ant, Blindness, Blue Crime, Canned Heat, Color TV, Cream, Fleetwood Mac, Jimmy Hendrix, Joan Baez, Ogunquit, The Breeders, The Kinks, The Libertines, The Palpitations, The WhoVENUES: 100 Club, Camden (general reference to the area), Pure Groove, Rough Trade, Royal Festival Hall, Sculpture of St. James, The Clarendon Hotel, The Dublin Castle, The George Robey, The Hammersmith Odeon, The Hope and Anchor, The Kings Head, The Kursal, The Lock Tavern, The Marquee Club, The Monarch, The Old Blue Last, The Purple Turtle, The Roundhouse.More information including photos and links available at https://www.SeeingThemLive.com. GGC introduced the program due to the rapid increase of students with autism in Gwinnett County K-12 schools, with an increase of about 1,400 students from 2013 to 2020, according to school systems data. John Charlton, Simon McDonald, Brian Beltran-Perez and Carlos Garcia  also contributed in the victory for Parkview. All three families have also adopted children they have fostered. I consider these women and their husbands heroes of the faith. They have stepped up to literally rescue and change the lives of orphans for the glory of Christ. James 1:27 says, Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world. The Church has been given the responsibility to look after orphans. It's a beautiful picture of what Christ has done for us by adopting us as His children. In this episode of Helping Sells Radio, we share a recording of a webinar we did about how software company customer education teams should build annual plans and learn to forecast instead of asking for a budget. Forecasting is a critical capability to learn, especially as your company prepares for possible IPO. Forecasting is a way to create your plan and then go after your plan. A budget is a license to spend. You don't want to be a spender. You want to be a forecaster. You gotta get good at this. And just to add, I did an episode with Debbie Smith who runs Smartsheet University, which is an excellent companion episode. So if you haven't listened to Debbie's episode go get it. Episode 327. Debbie Smith is the senior manager of Smartsheet University and vice president of the Customer Education Management Association (CEdMA) and joins us on Helping Sells Radio to talk about helping customers beyond the product. This all started on a Linkedin post, which talked about how software companies should consider building the school that teaches the skill in its domain. Software companies can help people (customers and potential customers and just anyone) learn the skills necessary to perform the job its software is designed to help. And even credential people in that job. It's a big idea. Debbie is doing something incredible. Instead of creating the school from scratch, she partnered with the biggest "school" in project management; the Project Management Institute to teach project management skills and help PMI certified professional maintain their PMI certification. Not only is Debbie building trust between PMI members and Smartsheet, she is helping PMI members further their skills and careers. What a conversation. Jeffery and Debbie Smith, the owners of Downtown Cowtown At The Isis Theatre, have spent almost five years restoring an all but forgotten piece of Fort Worth history.  In 1914 the 400 seat Isis Theatre opened its doors to the public. This beautiful building was destroyed by fire in 1935 when a projector malfunctioned and set the Isis ablaze. Rebuilt and reopened in 1933 and then again devastated by a deadly flood in 1949. The theatre was again restored and continued to operate until 1988 when the building was showing signs of age and then basically abandoned. For almost 30 years the theatre sat idle and continued to fall apart. Then in 2016 a visionary couple took it upon themselves to bring the Isis back from the grave. The restoration process took nearly five long years and enhancement projects still continue to this day. Now, Downtown Cowtown At The Isis Theatre is finally open! With live entertainment on the weekends and classic films playing on screen during the week. If you don't have time for a show simply pop in for a drink at one of the two speakeasy style bars open seven days a week until midnight. On December 16th and 17th the theatre will be throwing a big party that you can be apart of : Grand opening Gala starts at 6pm. It’s crucial to know what you intend to build, what outcomes it will generate, and how much maintenance it requires. The hypothesis that Dave and Debbie explore this episode is: “Certification programs for SaaS can be delivered in much shorter timelines, but with caveats.” When some people say they want to develop a certification, what they actually mean is “some learning modules with a quiz at the end.” But to create a legally defensible certification that can be used for hiring, firing, and other high-stakes situations, you need something far more rigorous, fair, and accurate. This means it’s going to take time and money. In this episode, Debbie walks us through the project management required to build and maintain a certification. Photo by Chris Montgomery on Unsplash This is the time of year where we see conferences like DevLearn (which we spoke at last year), The Guild's Learning Conference, and this year, for the first time ever, we had a three-week run of Customer Education conferences! Now, these were all online conferences since we're in the midst of Covid-related travel and gathering restrictions, but in a way this may have enabled us to see what we saw this year - three customer education conferences in a row! So what were the conferences? The fun started with CEdMA's annual conference, continued with Skilljar Connect next week. We've spoken at both of these conferences before, and they were joined by a new, third conference - Thought Industries COGNITION. Instead of recapping each conference individually, this episode is a rollup of all three featuring some of the themes and trends we saw along the way! The Shift to Online Conferences In this episode we begin by exploring the Pros and Cons of our Shift to Online Conferences. Online or Virtual conferences are hard to pull off. The main uptick for most attendees is that we have a lot more flexibility. Recordings are typically available for all sessions, so this really helped many of us with busy schedules pick and choose and catch up if we missed anything. Of course, there are cons. New technologies and the complexity of working with many integrated technologies, and even our own Internet (or lack thereof) caused some issues. We personally experienced some of this, but as Customer Education folks we rolled with the punches. CEdMA Connect 2020 CEdMA's Connect 2020 event was the first stop on our tour where we presented our Customer Education Manifesto for the first time (and do a to a live audience!).   We enjoyed the keynote from Bill Cushard - “The Next Big Thing in Customer Education”. The “7 Habits of Inclusive Leaders” from Melissa Majors was a great addition that injected much-needed DE&I content. Alessandra Marinetty delivered a great case study on the development of Box's event-based Certification Program, and much more. Skilljar Connect 2020 Of all the events we attended, Skilljar Connect 2020 takes the prize for being the most social - leveraging Hopin to satisfy the missing puzzle piece of networking.   Skilljar executed well on this event - deploying a content track in addition to more traditionally table steaks of material focused on leadership, strategy, monetization, and more.  For example, Debbie Smith from Braze was a huge hit (worth watching if you couldn't make it).  Randon and Kyle from JAMF dropped sage advice on creating content at scale. Beyond this we experienced some great material from OSISoft on Training a Global Audience, the LinkedIn education teams (and yes, there are many) talked about aligning across several product lines, and the Slack team shared how they assembled their Study Guide for their new Certification.   We did our first ever Live Mailbag episode based on the popular
