Sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn, Reynolds Landscaping & Lawncare, Everest Counseling (Farmington, Mo)Jeffrey Martin's latest album, "Thank God We Left The Garden," is a deeply personal and introspective musical journey that was created in a unique and intimate setting. He recorded the album during the winter in a small shack he built in his backyard in southeast Portland, Oregon, measuring just eight feet by ten feet. Originally intended as demos for a future studio recording, the shack became the album's birthplace, resulting in a spare, intimate, and honest collection of songs. Martin recorded the album live and alone, using only two microphones, often pausing to wait for the sound of passing trucks on a nearby busy street or coordinating his recording sessions with the cycles of an oil coil heater during cold nights."Thank God We Left The Garden" marks Jeffrey Martin's fourth full-length album and is set to be released on Portland's renowned Fluff and Gravy Records. He took on the roles of producer and engineer for the album, emphasizing the magic that arose from the unique recording environment, which allowed his voice, guitar, and new songs to come together with a profound sense of honesty. The album's lyrics delve into themes of imperfection, transformation, and spirituality. Martin's warm and candid voice, accompanied primarily by his guitar, creates an atmosphere that feels refreshingly real. He described his singing on this album as a personal exploration, striving to discover the true extent of his abilities with minimal instrumentation. This choice, he believes, was a reaction to the overwhelming pace of modern life, filled with constant news, entertainment, politics, and violence. He aimed to prove that even in today's fast-paced world, simplicity and authenticity still hold value. While "Thank God We Left The Garden" maintains the lyrical weightiness of Martin's previous work, it also brings forth a new sense of kindness and solace, portraying a timeless and generous spirit. The album's title itself reflects Martin's spiritual journey, acknowledging the complexities of religion and celebrating the beauty found in life's messiness. As the son of a pastor, he challenges the traditional notion of human brokenness, proposing that the divine might revel in the mystery of imperfection and failure. This album is best experienced as a cohesive whole, as each song contributes to a broader exploration of life's intricacies, the human experience, and the essence of being alive. Jeffrey Martin's songwriting seamlessly transitions from introspective reflections on his own inner world to compelling narratives about others. His work consistently avoids alienating the listener, instead offering relatable stories and emotions. In conclusion, "Thank God We Left The Garden" is a musical tapestry that craves the listener's undivided attention. It invites us to explore the tangled web of existence, seeking answers to profound questions while celebrating the act of asking. With its warm and genuine sound, this album is a testament to the enduring power of simplicity and authenticity in an increasingly complex world. All equipment used in the making of this video:Shure Sm7b https://amzn.to/3uAMzMAShure Sm58 https://amzn.to/3xlAj4pBoom Arm Desktop Mic Stand https://amzn.to/3rlZtvGMixcast 4 Audio Mixer https://amzn.to/3uD3KgzOneOdio Headphones https://amzn.to/3rK9cwnPig Hog Headphone Extension https://amzn.to/3JxvwiNwww.betterhelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

Sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn , Reynolds Landscaping & Lawncare, Everest Counseling (Farmington, Mo)Helmet, the iconic alternative metal band that emerged from New York City in the late 1980s, stands as a testament to the power of artistic innovation within the realm of heavy music. Founded by frontman and guitarist Page Hamilton, Helmet has left an indelible mark on the landscape of rock and metal with their unique blend of raw aggression, intricate songwriting, and thought-provoking lyrics. The band's journey began in 1989 when they released their debut album, "Strap It On," on the independent label Amphetamine Reptile Records. This album, marked by its deceptively simple yet highly effective riffing, immediately caught the attention of fans and critics alike. Page Hamilton's fractured soloing style and distinct vocal delivery set Helmet apart from the burgeoning alternative music scene, where they stood as a harbinger of a new era in heavy music.Helmet's breakthrough came with their second album, "Meantime," released in 1992 on Interscope Records. This album showcased Hamilton's songwriting prowess and cemented the band's status as a heavy-hitting force in the industry. Tracks like "Unsung" and "In the Meantime" became anthems for a generation, and the album itself achieved Gold certification, signifying its enduring impact. What sets Helmet apart from many of their peers is their dedication to musical intricacy and innovation. Page Hamilton, a trained jazz guitarist with a background in avant-garde music, brought a level of sophistication to their heavy sound that was unparalleled. The band's use of drop-D tuning, unconventional time signatures, and dissonant chords created a sonic landscape that challenged the conventions of heavy music. Songs like "Wilma's Rainbow" and "Rollo" exemplify this complexity, offering listeners a glimpse into the band's commitment to pushing the boundaries of their genre. After releasing two more albums, "Betty" in 1994 and "Aftertaste" in 1997, the original lineup of Helmet disbanded in 1998. However, Page Hamilton's artistic journey was far from over. He continued to explore various musical avenues, collaborating with artists like David Bowie, Caspar Brötzmann, and Wire, among others. This period of exploration allowed him to expand his sonic palette and further solidify his status as a musical innovator. In 2004, Hamilton reformed Helmet with an all-new lineup, releasing several albums, including "Size Matters" (2004), "Monochrome" (2006), "Seeing Eye Dog" (2010), and "Dead To The World" (2016). These albums demonstrated that Helmet's spirit of innovation and uncompromising intensity remained intact, even with a new lineup. In 2023, Helmet announced the release of their ninth studio album, "Left," set to be released on November 10th on earMUSIC. This announcement was accompanied by the "Look Left Tour," taking the band through various regions of North America. It marked their first tour since the pandemic, and fans eagerly anticipated hearing new material from this legendary band.Helmet's journey through the realms of heavy music and artistic innovation has been nothing short of remarkable. Page Hamilton's unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging conventions has led to the creation of music that transcends genres and continues to captivate audiences. Helmet's legacy as pioneers of alternative metal is secure, and their enduring influence on heavy music is a testament to the enduring power of artistic innovation. All equipment used in the making of this video:Shure Sm7b https://amzn.to/3uAMzMAShure Sm58 https://amzn.to/3xlAj4pBoom Arm Desktop Mic Stand https://amzn.to/3rlZtvGMixcast 4 Audio Mixer https:/This episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

While the group may not have reached the same heights collectively, their impact on the culture and the inspiration they provided to fellow St. Louis artists cannot be overlooked. The St. Lunatics will always be remembered as one of the pioneering groups that put St. Louis on the hip-hop map.Country Grammar https://amzn.to/44zBOJTFree City https://amzn.to/44KQtSsMoney Talks https://amzn.to/3Y2dG06T-shirt https://amzn.to/3Yg02qtNellyville https://amzn.to/44Q9UJmChingy https://righthurr.com/Chingy https://www.instagram.com/chingyJackpot https://amzn.to/3BaBMfyRight Thurr https://amzn.to/3zpH1XuHoodstar https://amzn.to/3IVQ1XGRight Thurr Live Session https://amzn.to/3OGIltLHolidae Inn https://amzn.to/3czqasuThe Barn https://linktr.ee/TheBarnPodTwitter: @TheBarnPodcastInstagram: @t.h.e.b.a.r.nAll equipment used in the making of this video:Shure Sm7b https://amzn.to/3uAMzMAShure Sm58 https://amzn.to/3xlAj4pBoom Arm Desktop Mic Stand https://amzn.to/3rlZtvGMixcast 4 Audio Mixer https://amzn.to/3uD3KgzOneOdio Headphones https://amzn.to/3rK9cwnPig Hog Headphone Extension https://amzn.to/3JxvwiNNow broadcasting live from the Leadbelt in Southeast Missouri, The Barn, in conjunction with The Wellness Investors, brings you such entertainment as The Chris Sabo Power Hour, Vulgar Display of Podcast, Wack's World, Struggle City, Girl Dad, Knuckleball Prime Time, Arch City Music Podcast, and Birds & Swords. Tomorrow Is The Problem PodcastWelcome to the ICA Miami Podcast. Each season, we'll explore familiar concepts from everyday life that we often take for granted. We'll expand these concepts to understand their critical historical and cultural underpinnings and forever change the way you view them.Sound WavesThe focus of this second season is sound as art, music, protest, and violence. An exploration of how sounds shape our experience of the world requires a study of music, but also that of the less explored sonic landscapes that exist outside of the anthropomorphic auditory register.Jazz as a Critical Way of LifeImprovisation is the shaping force of jazz, but as it shapes jazz it also structures community, and enables resistance.Today's episode explores where jazz finds its roots and how far it sends its shoots.Time Stamps + Takeaways[0:00] Prose — poetry, improvisation, and the world — as shaped by jazz. A reading of Claudia Rankine's Citizen.[3:40] Nina Eidsheim talks about the intermaterial vibrational quality of sound as well as the implicated nature of the listener — the receptor as an integral part of sound itself.[7:45] “Figures of sound” — like figures of speech — are susceptible to cognitive biases. Nina explains what this looks like, and how to challenge this in ourselves.[12:02] Hot, cold, crunchy, gooey, explosive sounds? Nina invites us to disrupt our patterns and revisit long-established lexicons.[14:35] Jana Winderen speaks to the sounds of the seas, and while they are quiet, they are by no means silent — and neither are humans — as well as how she records her work.[18:43] We weren't always this loud. She also talks about the importance of adding creative works to archival memory.[23:02] Katherine speaks to works like The Black Atlantic and Drexciya as a metaphor and a geography for navigating the diaspora as well as its relationship to water.[25:00] Drexciya's lyricless story provides a different way to enter a discussion about race, Katherine explains how this openness takes us elsewhere without any map at all.[27:00] Katherine shares her thoughts on the possibilities of “belonging” to the sea, as opposed to the land, as well as how Afro-Futurism can think the world no-linearly — like Drexciya's alternate present narrative.[32:30] Episode 3 is next: Transoceanic Relations.Contributors + GuestsDonna Honarpisheh / Assistant Curator and Host.Abu Qadim Haqq / Illustrator and Artist.DeForrest Brown Jr. / Rythmanalyst, Media Theorist, and Curator.Katherine Mckittrick / Professor (Gender Studies) and Writer. This podcast was made in partnership with Podfly Productions. Understanding identity and history inevitably requires a study of the seas, the communities it affects, and the secrets it was made to hold in the deep. The Sea Is HistoryExamine the sea as a collective memory of violence, an underwater keeper of often obscured identity and meaning.Archaeologists Ayana Flewellen and Justin Dunnavant probe the relationship between the sea and human history alongside Master Diver and Marine Biology Ph.D. student Kelsey Sapp. From sunken slave ships to coral preservation as an act of trauma healing, listen in to this deep dive on the historical and symbolic meaning of our physical oceans.Time Stamps + Takeaways[0:00] The Guerrero — a short intro of humans and History lost to the sea.[4:22] Ayana Flewellen paints a portrait of the slave trade's monumental and poorly accounted for human losses — 1.8 million African lives, names, family lines, and stories were lost to the sea.[6:05] Diving With a Purpose is tasked with surveying maritime wrecks to document and preserve this History.[7:37] Justin Dunnavant shares his work uncovering traces of the African diaspora kept in the material record if not the written one.[9:43] Marcus Garvey's entrepreneurial spirit offers Justin an opportunity to reinvigorate a historical narrative that explores Black History and the relationship to the sea outside of the discussion of slavery.[11:13] Justin touches on the idiosyncrasies of underwater archaeology and the debate against western and colonialist practices on how we are meant to interact with objects of history, if at all.[14:56] On the undoing of norms in academia opening up exploration and the possibilities in a space — like the sea — that can never be fully owned.[18:23] Ethical commemoration as a goal can also be an environmental statement. Justin shares his and Ayana's idea on how to counter the Black death narrative with an underwater memorial garden.[19:30] Kelsey Sapp touches on her work in assisted coral migration and how she is participating in Justin and Ayana's vision for a living museum.[22:46] On the intersection of cultural and environmental preservation. Ayana fleshes out the underwater trans-Atlantic living monument project, moving it away from the spectacle of Black death and towards a meditative healing experience.[25:00] The somatic experience of Black divers recovering this History helps facilitate the transition of the narrative of the ocean as a space of Black death to one Black life.[29:00] Episode 2 is next: The Sea Is Future.Contributors + GuestsDonna Honarpisheh / Assistant Curator and Host.Ayana Flewellen / Black Feminist, Archaeologist, Storyteller, and Artist.Justin Dunnavant / Anthropologist, Archaeologist, and Historian.Kelsey Sapp / Ph.D. Student (Marine Biology) and Master Diver. This podcast was made in partnership with Podfly Productions. Understanding identity and history inevitably requires a study of the seas, the communities it affects, and the secrets it was made to hold in the deep.Transoceanic RelationsWhether firmly grounded in the geographical idea of “place” or that of placelessness, the diasporic experience across oceans manages to keep historical notions of connectivity. Our guests ponder the crisis or borders in voluntary and forced migrations across borderless oceans.Timestamps + Takeaways[0:00] Drexciya provides one perception of Afro-Futurism, but not all agree…The Mundane Afro-Futurist Manifesto by Martine Syms sets the tone.[4:12] The world's deadliest border was born of a crisis of European identity. SA Smythe breaks down how this identity also defines the “other” and the ways shifting ocean borders have enabled the abandonment of black bodies.[7:11] The Black Mediterranean enables framing of the current migrant crisis by recentering African participation in the historical building of Europe and the intersecting aspects of black culture throughout the diaspora.[10:00] A migrant crisis or a crisis of border treatment of migrants? Racial issues are not the trope of America, the European treatment of Ukrainians, as opposed to racialized migrants, has shed a stark light on this.[12:57] Edwidge Danticat speaks to the highly transient nature of Miami as well as her obsession with the ocean's borderless connectivity.[18:38] On the other side of the water in Haitian Kreyol can mean migration or death, Edwidge shares her understanding of continued ancestry, culture and History through — and despite — the middle passage break.[21:16] There tends to be an assumption that Europe is a place of whiteness. SA talking openly about black activism in Italy and around the Mediterranean raises the major point that black people in Europe exist.[22:40] Both historically and currently, migration and the precarity it bears is central to the diasporic experience as Edwidge sees it.[25:00] Mapping the overlapping, historical, and connective sea.[26:04] Episode 4 is next: Rising Tides.Contributors + GuestsDonna Honarpisheh / Assistant Curator and Host.SA Smythe / Writer, Translator, Performer, and Scholar.Edwidge Danticat / Novelist and Writer. This podcast was made in partnership with Podfly Productions. Candace Fujikane shares some of the 4000 deities that describe natural and elemental processes.[7:09] Candace speaks to the importance of indigenous knowledge and methods — Hawaiian and otherwise — for combating climate change through restoration.[15:11] ICA Miami sits on Tequesta land, an extinct people whose stewardship duties have been transferred to the Miccosukee tribe.[17:41] Dina Gilio-Whitaker explains the significance, for the Colville Confederated Tribes, of the now flooded Kettle Falls along the Columbia river as well as the fracture and cultural wound the damming created.[21:53] Mending her connection to water by way of surfing, Dina embraced humility. She speaks about her work correcting false narratives and reclaiming surfing as a spiritual practice.[25:44] Climate change is a philosophical problem brought about by a commodified relationship to the land, and incidentally to water which can be directly countered with indigenous principles, knowledge, and practices.[31:22] Season 1 of Tomorrow Is The Problem podcast closes with a quiet reminder to reconnect the middle passage with the Afro-Futures seas of Drexciya, the healing waters of Hawaii, and the indigenous knowledge we all need to sail forward through unknown waters.Tune in for season 2.Contributors + GuestsDonna Honarpisheh / Assistant Curator and Host.Candace Fujikane / Professor and Activist.Dina Gilio-Whitaker / Journalist, Author, and Activist. This podcast was made in partnership with Podfly Productions. How You Can Support the Show! Visit http://www.patreon.com/johnpcordray to support the show. This was recorded for John's Patreon page.    ABOUT ME I'm John Cordray, a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Therapist and I own a private practice in St. Louis, Missouri. I started podcasting and broadcasting video (Live & Edited) in 2015. I'm using Patreon to help find people who believe in the message that I am providing to help people around the world learn to cope with a mental illness. I hope to find individuals to support what I do with my podcast and videos to help me pay for equipment and to help cover other expenses that go into production. ABOUT THE SHOW Helping End the Stigma of Mental Illness One Show at a Time. The Mental Health Today Show started as a podcast helping thousands around the world with mental health topics. The show recently added live video on Facebook Live, where John interviews guests and encourages people who struggle with a mental health issue. People who tune in live can also comment instantly to John and he is able to answer their questions in real time. John also produces The Mental Health Minute as a short (PSA) with helpful tips. 99% of what I do online is free to the public, but it can be expensive to keep up with production costs. With your help I'll be able to continue to help thousands of people who need to know that someone like me (a therapist) is here for them. WANT TO BE A PRODUCER OF THE SHOW? A: Patreon is a convenient way for content creators to be paid for their work. So many creators are doing great work and Patreon is often the only way they can get paid. In my case, for example, Patreon is the ONLY way I am paid for my work, and I put a lot of work into my show every week. Q: I've never heard of Patreon, can they be trusted? A: Absolutely, Patreon was established in 2013 and has over 70 employees working hard to make sure your experience is great! I trust them with my content too! Q: How often do you publish your show? A: I produce new episodes (podcasts & videos) every week. My goal is to produce two a week. As I find more supporters I will be able to produce even more! Once I have enough supporters to go full-time I will have a daily show M-F. Q: Will I support you monthly or per creation? A: All of my Patreon supporters are monthly supporters. You won't be charged every time I publish a new podcast or video. I think it's easier for you to budget your support this way. Q: Is Patreon the only way you're being paid to produce your show? A: Yes, I have been producing my show without payment since June 2015, but it has been difficult to continue to pay for production costs. Q: What do you use to process payments? A: Paypal is the payment processor that I use. This means you can pay from your Paypal account or use your credit card. Paypal is also a great because it's a universal payment processor to make it easy for international supporters. Q: Are you really a therapist? A: Yes, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Therapist. I also speak at conferences about my experience using social media, podcasts, and live video to help people with mental health struggles. Q: What if I can't afford or don't see a good option I want to support you with? A: First, thank you for your interest in supporting my work! If you don't see a good option on the suggested ways to support me you can always enter your desired amount. Anything helps, even $1.00 / month! Q: What if I have additional questions? A: Great question! If you have more questions you can visit the Patreon help center. Q: I'm ready to support you, how do I do that? A: Super, thanks! It's really easy, just click on the link below and follow the instructions.   Become a Patron and support the show here http://www.patreon.com/johnpcordray With your help we can promote a more positive perception of mental health.
