New theories or new scripts for the digital age?

this IS research

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 1, 2025 42:34

Is there a formula for doing and publishing research on digital phenomena? And if so, it is the same formula as the scripts for IS papers of the past, or has it changed? We discuss how our field has historically worked with reference theories from other disciplines and how we have moved beyond this one way of doing and publishing research to a variety of ways in which we can build theory about digital phenomena. We suggest that reference theories should not be viewed as immutable sacred cows but rather as a tentative basis of received wisdom, which we must problematize and adapt to move knowledge forward. Doing so requires us to find puzzles in the real world that point to things being different instead of new. Episode reading list Truex, D. P., Holmström, J., & Keil, M. (2006). How to do a literature review

Many people think of summer as the best time to read. On the beach, on the airplane to a vacation, in between semesters… Sounds like a perfect time to do a literature review. But there are many ways to do a literature review, and in all honesty, we think most people choose the wrong type of review – the “systematic” literature review where they select papers about a phenomenon, do a supposedly structured but not exhaustive search across IS journals, and then criticize the knowledge others have created. We discuss a few alternatives that we think hold more promise: qualitative and quantitative meta analyses, or narrative and integrative reviews. We also point to a few papers that have helped us organize the conversations we read about in the literature – which really, is what literature reviewing is all about.  References Berente, N., Lyytinen, K., Yoo, Y., & Maurer, C. Dr. Heidi Brocke spent 14 years in an extremely emotionally and narcissistically abusive relationship. Her ex-husband had his fingers in so many aspects of her life. They owned a chiropractic center together. They owned a ranch. They had two children together. All things he used to torment and control. The home was filled with fits of anger, extreme punishments and constant fear for her and her two daughters. And somehow even after trying to leave 6 times, he always found a new pressure point to bring them all back to him. There was no help coming from the courts, law enforcement or anyone else.Heidi eventually escaped but was forced to leave her teenage daughters behind and he kept them from her for 5 years. Hellness to Wellness with Dr Jason West

Panic attacks, anxiety, chest pain, social anxiety. No matter who you are or where you fit on the spectrum, it's no fun. That's what happened to Dean. He was struggling with nerves that were "FREAKING OUT." While it may be too simple to describe anxiety as nerve system overload, it's too many impulses to the brain. The brain and body are related. That's not a surprise because if you physically hurt it's hard on your emotions. If you are emotionally struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional upheaval, cyclic moods, reactive hypoglycemia or the new term (neuroglycopenia = when the blood sugar drops the nerves fail). It's all together. Start balancing one and you have a shot to balance the other. I love Dean. What a warrior. He's been challenged with debilitating anxiety, heart symptoms, and social stress. Sometimes people can become their disease while other times they rise up and change their life. That's what Dean did. He asked for help. He got treatment. He took his medical nutritional therapy religiously, ate healthy and alive foods and put his body on a schedule. Now, he's going to California to follow his life long dream of working with exotic animals. It's such a fulfilling patient success story. What we did for Dean: 1. Helped him with tools to be healthier. 2. Prescribed a medical nutritional therapy program specifially for him. 3. Gave him IV vitamin C, glutathione, magnesium, potassium and dilute HCL 4. Provided rTMS therapy (rapid transcranial therapy). 5. Brocke up nerve addiction patterns using Theta Chamber technology. Now - we will help him accross the country to stay healthy. if you have a chronic health concern and want options for treatments without prescriptions or drug intervention, you should check us out at www.westcliniconline.com. We are hear every wednesday night at 6pm MST with a patient success story. We are also on iTunes and spotify (Hellness to Wellness Podcast). Toxic relationships can manifest anywhere - in the workplace, among your friend circle, or even within your extended family. Join chiropractor-turned-life-coach Heidi Brocke as she unpacks her experiences into a purposeful business venture, helping others deal with and escape the overwhelming cycle of being with an energy-and-esteem-draining individual. Tune in to this episode on What is a Toxic Relationship? with Heidi Brocke. Key points covered in this episode:   ✔️Recognize a toxic relationship. Heidi Brocke believes that the word “toxic” isn't a diagnosis but an adjective to describe an unhealthy relationship - be it mentally, physically, or emotionally. ✔️ Catch the signs of a toxic relationship. They're unpredictable and difficult to pinpoint. However, Heidi Brocke shares that it's never too late to distinguish patterns of a toxic individual. The constant need to belittle and criticize is a glaring red flag.  ✔️Keep your reactions in check. The toxic personality constantly looks for a reaction, whether it be tears, panic, or distress from the oppressed. The latter's first instinct is always to spring into action to avoid conflict, like a dog fetching a stick. ✔️A toxic relationship is like walking into a stinky room. The longer you stay in a stinky room, the bad smell goes away. But that doesn't always mean the smell is gone. The same principle applies to toxic relationships. The oppressed become desensitized to abuse because it happens daily.   ✔️An emotionally abusive person uses the same playbook. Put yourself in an outsider's perspective. Find out what motivates their behavior. You have the power and courage to analyze the situation and make educated decisions leading to your departure from the relationship.   ✔️Use your voice. One loses so much of their esteem and identity when they've undergone a controlling and draining environment. Heidi Brocke and Wendy Sterling share the passion for empowering people to reclaim their autonomy and make decisions that align with their beliefs. Heidi Brocke is a Toxic Relationship Awareness & Healing Specialist. After 14 years in an extremely emotionally and narcissistically abusive relationship, she broke the chains and turned her past into her passion; She left her 24 years career in healthcare to be the person she needed when she herself was trapped in the darkness of an unhealthy relationship to provide hope, healing, and freedom to those whose lives have been affected by toxic relationships, emotional abuse, and narcissistic behaviors. Was denkst Du darüber? Here we go, another Sunday. This only means one thing; another episode of the Following Paraluman Podcast Series is live! This week, we interviewed Melody Brocke, a good friend and an upcoming school mate of mine. In this episode, we talked about working and/or volunteering as an English teacher abroad. We also talked about getting the TEFL, breaking language barriers and so much more. She also shared about her experiences in the beautiful country of Costa Rica! So if you are aspiring to teach English abroad, then make sure to stay tuned for this week's episode. You can find Melody on social media by using the handle: @melshmallow046. You can find Dani on social media by using the handle: @dmtanjutco, and her blog, www.danicatanjutco.com. Again, so sorry if I sounded so lame and dazed in this episode. It was the sinus infection. Ugh! But I will see you next week for yet another episode, and thanks so much for tuning in!
