Texas Supreme Court affirms ban of abortion, 21% of Protestant pastors support homosexual faux marriage, Colorado Christian University secures golf national title

It's Thursday, June 6th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Narendra Modi wins re-election in India, but anti-Christian BJP party loses India posted results from its general election on Tuesday. With nearly a billion voters, it's the largest election in the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi secured a third term, extending his hold on power since 2014. However, his Hindu nationalist party, the BJP, failed to win a majority for the first time in a decade. Over that period, Modi has overseen the suppression of religious minorities like Christians and Muslims in the country.  Christians in India have been praying for a change International Christian Concern reports Christians in India have been praying for a change in government for years. It remains to be seen how the recent elections will affect Christians. Edwin Anand, a bishop in central India, warns that churches should brace for more persecution under a third Modi term.  Christians in India have faced over 600 violent attacks each year since 2021. The country is ranked 11th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian.  Europeans electing new members of European Parliament People across Europe begin voting today in the world's second-largest election. About 400 million Europeans will be selecting new members of the European Parliament.  Typically, the two largest parliamentary groups have been the center-right European People's Party and the center-left Socialists and Democrats.  However, right-wing parties are gaining popularity. France 24 reports a coalition of conservative and right-wing groups could be on track to hold a majority for the first time. Daniel 2:21 says God “changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” Texas Supreme Court affirms ban of abortion In the United States, the Supreme Court of Texas unanimously rejected a challenge to the state's pro-life laws. Between several laws, Texas outlaws nearly all abortions. The challenge sought to allow abortion in more cases like babies with disabilities.  The state's abortion ban went into effect after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022. Texas reported 67 abortions the following month and three abortions the month after that. The year before, the Lone Star state reported nearly 6,000 abortions in just one month.  21% of Protestant pastors support homosexual faux marriage Lifeway Research reports that support for faux homosexual marriage is thankfully slowing down among pastors. In 2010, 15% of Protestant pastors supported the unbiblical practice. That percentage increased to 24% in 2019, but dropped back down to 21% today. Pastors from mainline denominations were the ones who drove the increase in support for celebrating people living in vile passions. Meanwhile, Evangelical pastors have consistently opposed it since 2010. Sexual perverts are especially proud of their rebellion this month Mainstream American culture is celebrating sexually perverted lifestyles this month.  Over the weekend, 21 out of 32 National Football League teams joined the celebration on social media.  However, 11 of the football teams did not acknowledge so-called pride month. Those teams include the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons. Exodus 23:2 says, “You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice.” Boeing sent astronauts to International Space Station Boeing sent astronauts to space for the first time yesterday.  NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams are headed for the International Space Station aboard Boeing's new Starliner spacecraft.  The program faced years of delays and technical problems.  Since 2020, Elon Musk's SpaceX has been providing NASA astronauts transportation to the International Space Station.  Colorado Christian University secures golf national title Colorado Christian University won the Division II Men's Golf Championship late last month, defeating the University of North Georgia. It's the first national title for the Christian university.  Head Coach Mark Hull said their goal is to “represent Christ in everything we do . . . we're excited to have this platform to do it.”  Adam Duncan led the Colorado Christian University Cougars to victory. Coach Hull recalled the final drive, saying, “Up by one stroke headed to the 18th hole, Adam Duncan did exactly what he needed to do, getting onto the green in two. With the Cougar faithful holding their breath in anticipation, Duncan clearly stepped up and sunk a beautiful putt from distance to birdie the hole and clinch the national championship for his team.” 14 Worldview listeners gave $2,710 And finally, toward our Friday, June 7th goal of raising $28,550 to help keep the newscast on the air, 14 Worldview listeners stepped up to the plate. Our thanks to Bianca in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, South Africa who gave $10 as well as Jill in Saugerties, New York and Kelly in New Haven, Prince Edward Island, Canada – both of whom gave $25. We are grateful to Danielle in McPherson, Kansas, Jennifer in Evansville, Indiana, and Titus in Omaha, Nebraska – each of whom gave $50. We appreciate the generosity of Eric in Burnet, Texas, Stephen in Adrian, Oregon, and Anthony in Spring, Texas – each of whom gave $100 as well Steven in Coatesville, Pennsylvania who gave $300 and Susana in Helotes, Texas who pledged $25/month for 12 months for a gift of $300. And we thank God for an anonymous donor in Kailua Kona, Hawaii and Heather in La Grange Park, Illinois – both of whom gave $500 as well as Alan in Kalispell, Montana who pledged $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600. Those 14 Worldview listeners gave $2,710. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (sound effect of drum roll) $5,940 (audience cheering) We have only two days left to raise $22,610.  I'm looking for 10 Worldview listeners to pledge $100 per month for 12 months for a gift of $1,200. 120,000 Armenian Christians need your help, Ben & Jerry's latest left-wing cause, Target's flip-flop on “The Democrat Party hates America”

It's Monday, July 10th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus 120,000 Armenian Christians need your help If you've never heard of Nagorno-Karabakh, you're not alone. Many Westerners are not even aware of its existence and its 120,000 endangered Christians, much less about its recent violent history. Lela Gilbert, Family Research Council's Senior Fellow for International Religious Freedom, spoke to The Worldview. GILBERT: “Nagorno-Karabakh is an enclave of Christians on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It's a conflict zone because Azerbaijan claims that it as its own and part of its country, but doesn't really tolerate the Christian community. The Christians are being very persecuted and being driven out. Armenia is in a conflict with Azerbaijan over this particular territory.” Once a part of the ancient Armenian Kingdom — with roots reaching back to the second century — the enclave's present upheaval dates to Stalin's regime in the USSR, when the dictator's remapping surrounded the Christians with Islamic Azerbaijan. GILBERT:  “Azerbaijan has blocked a highway, eliminating the opportunity for the enclave of Christians to gain food, groceries, medicine. So, it's been impossible for people to get their necessities.” Radical Muslims hate Christians. In keeping with the Koran's teaching, they want the Christians to convert to Islam or die. GILBERT: “There is a religious component to this conflict for sure. Azerbaijan is a very Islamist country. The Christians in both Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh believe this is an extension of the Armenian Genocide. There are many hundreds dead. The Armenian Genocide took place in the early 20th century. There were a million and a half Armenians killed during that genocide.” Please pray for the protection of the 120,000 Armenian Christians.  And secondly, send a polite email to the Embassy for Azerbaijan in Washington, D.C., urging the country to leave the Christians in Nagorno-Karabakh alone. Send your 1-2 sentence email to consul@azembassy.us Teacher fined $17,000 for objecting to wrong pronouns The Nottinghamshire County Council in England is demanding a dismissed teacher pay $17,000 in legal costs for the judicial review she pursued after she was fired for raising concerns about policies requiring teachers to affirm the non-biological identity of confused students. The teacher, identified in court documents as "Hannah," had worked at a primary school for seven years without issue until she voiced her concerns about an 8-year-old trans-identified student's transition, says the U.K.-based Christian Legal Centre, which supports the teacher. In addition, while the leftist Teaching Regulatory Authority conducts a witch hunt investigation, Hannah cannot work as a teacher. Michigan legislature eager to criminalize anti-trans speech Late last month, the Michigan House of Representatives passed HB 4474, a bill that if signed into law, will criminalize as hate speech any criticism against transgender ideology that makes a person ostensibly feel “frightened,” reports LifeSiteNews.com. In an attempt to silence critics and curtail First Amendment freedom of speech protections, transgender advocates in the Democrat-controlled Michigan legislature are seeking legal criminalization of opposition to sexual mutilation and chemical sterilization of children as discriminatory “hate speech.” The bill passed the Michigan House in a 59-50 vote and is likely to pass in the Democrat-controlled Senate before reaching liberal Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer's desk. Ben & Jerry's latest left-wing cause Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, headquartered in Vermont, has always championed Leftist causes like sexual perversion and shutting down the oil and gas industry. Last week they experienced backlash over its July 4th message that America should return "stolen indigenous land," reports Fox News. On Instagram, the brand posted, "This 4th of July, it's high time that we recognize the U.S. exists on stolen indigenous land and commit to returning it. Let's start with Mount Rushmore." (The also tweeted a similar message.) In a laughable development, a Native American tribe in Vermont wants Ben and Jerry's to return its stolen land which is today the land upon which the left-wing ice cream manufacturer is headquartered. Don Stevens, the Chief of the Nulhegan Band of The Coosuk Abenaki Nation, told Newsweek he's eager to facilitate the land's return. He told the publication the tribe was “always interested in reclaiming the stewardship of our lands.” However, his offer was met with the sound of crickets from Ben & Jerry's. Perhaps that will be their next flavor. Chocolate-covered crickets in vanilla ice cream. Target's flip-flop on “The Democrat Party hates America” Conservative author Mark Levin has just completed his latest book entitled  The Democrat Party Hates America. Target, known for its championing of sexual perversion and special transgender-friendly bathing suits for biological men pretending to be women, announced that it would not carry Levin's book because the title would offend its customers. In a tweet, Levin labeled the woke company as “pathetic.” After re-thinking their initially foolish censorship, Target decided to carry the book after all.  In a follow-up July 6th tweet, Levin wrote, “Target just informed my publisher that it has reversed course. The silent majority is silent no longer.” Worldview listeners in New Jersey and Ohio weigh in Worldview listeners continue to share their testimonials. Leslie Welsh in Florham Park, New Jersey wrote, “Dear Adam, I just sent in a small donation with prayers that your Christian newscast continues. It encourages Christians to stay involved through prayer and other action steps on behalf of the worldwide persecuted Church and our God-given rights in this country. Your broadcast is urgently needed during turbulent times.” And Kendra Petras in Ashland, Ohio wrote, “Our family has used this news service for the past few years as part of our homeschool. We listen to it for current events presented from a Christian worldview. I appreciate the global persecution section, U.S. news, and human interest new combined in a short newscast. “Additionally, it has been helpful to keep me informed of actions I should take. When I learned that Chase Bank had closed the account of a non-profit religious organization, I was prompted to talk with the bank and its Vice President.  After having a Chase credit card for 14 years, I decided to close our account.” 25 Worldview listeners gave $3,700 Incredibly, 25 Worldview listeners gave toward our $80,000 goal by Monday, July 31st to keep this unique Christian newscast on the air. Our thanks to Henry in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Caleb in Wichita, Kansas, Kaylee in Paducah, Kentucky, and Tom in Rocky View, Alberta, Canada – each of whom gave $25. We appreciate Frederick in Kennesaw, Georgia who gave $30 as well as Daniel in Evansville, Indiana, Colleen in Melbourne, Florida, Dean in Paulden, Arizona, Karen in Waterford, Wisconsin, Jason in Center City, Minnesota, and Whitney in Columbus, Georgia -- each of whom gave $50. We're grateful for the generosity of Curtis in North Augusta, South Carolina who gave $120 as well as Paul in Quincy, Massachusetts, Diana in Glendale, Arizona, and Susana in Helotes, Texas – each of whom gave $200. And we were touched by the help of Robert in Salado, Texas who gave $250, Linda in Hanahan, South Carolina and Rich in Elma, Washington – both of whom gave $300, Kirsten in Fargo, North Dakota, Mary in Phoenix, Arizona, and Steven in Plainview, Texas – each of whom pledged $25/month for 12 months for a total gift of $300 each, as well as Brian in Dassel, Minnesota who gave $500. Those 25 donations, our new record this year, add up to $3,700. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (Drum roll sound effect) $9,940.50. (Crowd cheering sound effect) In order to hit our $40,000 immediate goal by Friday, July 14, we still need to raise $30,059.50. I'm looking for 10 Worldview listeners to pledge $100/month for 12 months. Gerry Goldstein has spent his career fighting for what is right. From fighting for conscientious objectors in the Vietnam war era to fighting the Patriot Act's attack on civil liberties. Gerry is a hero to me personally and a great entertaining guest. Transcript: [music] Justin Hill: Hello, and bienvenido, San Antonio. Welcome to The Alamo Hour, discussing the people, places, and passion that make our city. My name is Justin Hill, a local attorney, a proud San Antonian, and keeper of chickens and bees. On The Alamo Hour, you'll get to hear from the people that make San Antonio great and unique, and the best-kept secret in Texas. We're glad that you're here. All right. Welcome to The Alamo Hour. Today's guest is Gerry Goldstein. Gerry is a criminal defense lawyer with Goldstein & Orr. I could go on and on about all of your lawyer accolades and awards, but we'd be here all day. Recently inducted into the criminal defense hall of fame. Gerry, you're a personal hero to me. I read about you in law school. I learned about you in law school, and then you randomly show up in a restaurant after I'd had way too many drinks about six years ago, and I thought it'd be a good idea to go up and introduce myself. You were so gracious and so classy, and so was your wife, and I asked you to get a beer with me at some point, and I'm a nobody fifth-year lawyer, and you agreed, and met me for a beer. I thought that was just the coolest thing. Gerry Goldstein: I learn a lot from my fellow lawyers and brothers and sisters in San Antonio. What a wonderful place to have grown up and continued my practice. Thank you so much, Justin. Justin: I agree. The San Antonio Express, I read, one of the writers was so gracious to call you a rich libertarian and druggie mouthpiece. That was something you were very proud of, and I found that to be pretty funny when I was doing some research for this. Gerry: That was Paul Thompson who had a front-page column, and he malign me weekly, and probably was the best-- I'm not a big fan of advertising, but I will tell you it was the best advertising any lawyer could ever get. Justin: [laughs] That's when the newspaper wrote a little different than it does now, it seems like. Gerry: It was, but so did the judges and lawyers. Justin: Fair enough. Okay. I do this with everybody, and it's really exciting to do it with you. A sort of top 10, who knows how many it will be. You have grown up in San Antonio. You now have a house just blocks away from where you actually grew up in the King William area. You throw a Fiesta party that is famous, that I knew about immediately when I moved here. I saw a guy pushing a shopping cart full of booze down Alamo one day. I said, "Where are you going?" He said he was going to restock your party there in Fiesta. It precedes you. Gerry: Thank you. I take that as the highest form of flattery, Justin. Justin: No, it's legendary. What are some of your favorite spots in San Antonio? Gerry: Well, years ago, in the late '60s and early '70s, we actually opened and owned the original Friendly Spot, which was at the corner of Beauregard and Alamo, which the alcoholic beverage commission shut down after the number two then dinners, played in the crowd, spilled out into the middle of the street. We own the Beauregard. My wife obviously has nixed any more bars or restaurants, but I still hang out at La Tuna. I think it's a wonderful spot, although it's been encroached upon by all these new condos and apartment buildings. I grew my long teeth, hanging out at the Escobar back in the old days. Wine 101 out in Helotes, I think is a wonderful spot. I did my time crawling back home from the local wineries and various alcohol spots in the King William area where I'd grown up. Justin: Well, so Jody Newman was the first guest on The Alamo Hour, who's now the Friendly Spot owner, and you and I went to LA Tuna. That...
