Send us a textIf you've tried more fiber, magnesium, MiraLAX, and water—but you're still backed up—this episode is for you. Alyssa dives deep into constipation, busts myths, and shows what really moves the needle when your gut is sluggish. She covers why “healthy” foods can sometimes make things worse, what your gut actually needs to start moving, and small shifts in timing, hydration, and food pairings that can bring real relief. What you'll learn in this episode:Which foods (even “healthy” ones) can slow down digestion, especially when your gut is already struggling. How to use cooked veggies, soluble fiber, and hydration strategically so your supplements or laxatives don't work against you.Why pairing fiber without sufficient water or spacing supplements and meals properly can backfire.Simple daily habits — like eating schedule, gentle movement, chewing more — that support motility (your gut's “get moving” power). How imbalances like methane overgrowth or yeast (candida) might be silently sabotaging your progress if the basics aren't working.Resources Mentioned:Low-FODMAP overnight oats recipe with chia seeds Check out Alyssa's FREE Masterclass “Why your gut still isn't better - the real reason you feel stuck here. DM “GUT CHECK” on Alyssa's Instagram for a personalized quiz and free meal plans & resources to kickstart your gut healing journey.Learn more about personalized gut healing plans at Nutrition ResolutionFind Alyssa on: Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest  -If you're enduring uncomfortable, painful, and embarrassing GI symptoms and feel like you've tried everything, Alyssa uses a specialized approach to help people who've gone from doctor to doctor finally find relief. Real Life Pharmacology - Pharmacology Education for Health Care Professionals

On this episode of the Real Life Pharmacology podcast, I discuss Miralax (polyethylene glycol) pharmacology, adverse effects, and much more. MiraLAX is an osmotic laxative commonly used to treat occasional constipation by retaining water in the stool to increase stool frequency and soften consistency. The standard adult dose of MiraLAX is 17 grams (approximately one heaping tablespoon) dissolved in 4 to 8 ounces of liquid once daily. Electrolyte imbalances are rare but possible with prolonged or excessive use of Miralax, particularly in elderly or renal-impaired patients. Advise patients to maintain adequate hydration while using MiraLAX to support its mechanism and reduce side effects.

Welcome Ginny Noce, the Women's Health RN with a masters in nutrition science & functional medicine, to The Hormone Genius Podcast. In Ginny's own words from a blog she wrote below, here is why Ginny became passionate about helping women balance their hormones! If her story speaks to you then you will NOT want to miss this episode. Ginny is a genius, really. She has an incredible amount of practical wisdom to share and free information that you can start implementing in your health journey today. It all started with a desire to: – Lose a little weight – Clear up my skin – Have regular bowel movements Back in high school, I was breaking out regularly, trying to lose ten pounds, and relying on laxatives just to go to the bathroom. That's what led me down the rabbit hole of conventional medicine, where I experienced things like: -Appointments with a gastroenterologist who told me to eat more Cheerios and take Miralax daily – Being prescribed birth control by my PCP for acne – Eating 1,200 calories a day and running 1–2 miles daily to drop weight And honestly, those things kind of worked. Yes, I lost weight—but my digestive issues got worse. My skin was only clear as long as I stayed on the pill. And overall, I just felt awful. So I stopped birth control cold turkey. That's when everything fell apart. My face broke out into full-blown, inflamed cystic acne. My cycles never regulated themselves. And I was still dependent on Miralax just to go to the bathroom. After two more years of struggling, I was finally diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and given three options: – Go back on birth control – Start spironolactone – Try a keto diet I was overwhelmed and frustrated. I didn't want to go back on medication, and I certainly didn't want to keep treating symptoms without getting to the root. I thought to myself, There has to be a better way. And it turns out—there was. That's when I discovered food as medicine. I won't get into every diet or supplement I experimented with, but from the start, I focused on real, whole foods. Slowly but surely, my symptoms began to improve. That progress ignited my deep, burning passion for nutrition and women's health. Some major turning points from there: – Reading Dr. Jolene Brighten's Beyond the Pill Learning about cycle charting through FEMM—and eventually working for them as the lead nurse in their endocrinology and fertility telehealth clinic, where I also became a certified Fertility Awareness Instructor. Diving deeper into functional medicine and root cause approaches, which led me to earn my Master's Degree in Functional Medicine and Human Nutrition from the University of Western States After years of struggling and researching endlessly, I can now say: – My skin is 99% clear, with only the occasional breakout – My digestion is solid—I haven't dealt with constipation or bloating in over two years – My cycles are regulated, my PCOS is in remission, and I was able to conceive naturally—twice (I now have 2 girls ages 4 & 1.5) Link to where you can find guides & applications to work with my team. https://www.instagram.com/thewomenshealthrn/ Get a ton of Ginny's Freebie Hormonal Health Guides here! https://thewomenshealthrn.myflodesk.com/freebie ✨MASTERING YOUR HORMONAL HEALTH

Joining them will be Maddie, because Abby is determined for the new team to dominate and Maddie can't lose.Tensions flare up quickly, though in an unlikely turn of events it's Kalani who comes out against the moms. As it turns out she has some history with Tracy and Sarah, referring to them as Arizona trash. Before things get too out of hand, Abby begins to pair off the new girls with the OG girls. This way each division gets two ALDC competitors and she can force the girls to compete against one another. The pairs are Chloe/Kamryn, Ava/Kendall, Nia/Sarah R, Tea+Sarah H/Mackenzie, and Kalani/Jade.With a competition in Ohio just around the corner it's time to get all the numbers in shape. But will the new moms manage to get along while the girls are hard at work? Well if you're Christy (with a Y) you can always call on the Lord to rebuke those moms you don't get along with. I took my son to every kind of healthcare professional. Over a two-and-a-half-year period, we spent over $20,000 trying to figure out what was causing his symptoms and how to heal his body. We tried every herbal remedy. We went to an Ayurvedic doctor. We went to a functional medicine doctor. We did a six-month tele-health program with a nutritionist. We did allergy testing. We tried every elimination diet. I know many of you are on this same journey. You have tried what feels like everything. On top of already being really mindful. And maybe you are like me and have been given really terrible advice. Maybe against your intuition and deep heart desires you gave up breastfeeding because professionals said that would heal your child. Maybe you have tried steroid creams or taken MiraLAX. Maybe you have tried every herb and supplement. And you are still unwell.Chronic bloating, persistent digestive discomfort, unexplained fatigue, skin issues such as eczema or acne, frequent headaches, mood swings, immune system imbalances, and recurring infections. Hormone imbalances, sour smelling poop, chronic diarrhea or constipation, food sensitivities, allergies, joint pain, brain fog, and depression or anxiety.Today, we are going to talk about why all the remedies I tried—and that you have likely tried—don't work. Why discontinuing breastfeeding is never the answer, why medications like steroids, antibiotics, and MiraLAX are not the answer, and how they actually cause more harm than healing. Why healthy eating alone isn't enough and why you need very specific supplements to heal.If you're ready to uncover the underlying causes and embark on a journey toward true healing, this episode is for you.Links from the episode:Explore the Children's Gut Rebalance KitExplore the Women's Gut Rebalance KitExplore the Maintenance BundleExplore Balance CBDThanks for listening! There tends to be two types of poopers. People who are more prone to constipation and those who are more prone to diarrhea. Contrary to what your doctor will mostly likely tell you though, the answer isn't a laxative like Miralax or a fiber supplement. These are bandaids that don't heal your body. Your body isn't constipated because it needs a laxative. The body gets constipated when something is off inside.Your poop is a direct reflection of your internal health and if you, your child or someone you know suffers from constipation this episode is for your. In 2010, his then 4-year-old son was treated for constipation and placed on the over-the-counter laxative, Miralax. Over the five years that followed, his doctors would recommend that he remain on Miralax to treat his constipation. In 2014 his son was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy and started exhibiting PANDAS-like symptoms. His behavior was out of control, and their family was in a dark place, desperate for help. In February 2015, he joined the Facebook group Parents Against Miralax. It was there that he learned about naturopathic medicine. Mike and his wife found a naturopath in April 2015, and by May 2015, his son was on the path to better health and healing. Thankfully today, Mike's son is doing really well. Mike has now made it his mission to warn other parents of the very real dangers of Polyethene Glycol.References in The Episode:Parents Against Miralax Facebook GroupNomorepeg.comAdditional Resources:Take The Quiz: What's YOUR Top Autism Parenting Blindspot? To learn more about Cass & Len, visit us at www.autismparentingsecrets.comBe sure to follow Cass & Len on InstagramIf you enjoyed this episode, share it with your friends.

Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Anonymous: Hi Dr Cabral, thank you for all you do and for your amazing podcasts, you are a wealth of knowledge and I trust your word before anyone else!! My question is about sodium. I get really dry skin mostly on my face when I have a very small amount of salt. Is this a gut issue like candida or yeast overgrowth, why would this be happening so much later in life? I'm a male, 43 years of age and I'm in pretty good health overall. I never had an issue with salt when I was younger, but now my nose, cheeks and sometimes hands get really really dry. I predominantly have salt only on the weekends, and whether its celtic or himalayan and maybe a cheat meal from a restaurant, it just seems to overloaded my body. I always keep up with my water throughout the day so I am hydrated as well. Any help with this is greatly appreciated, keep up the fantastic work!!!   Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral thank you for all you do and for putting out these podcasts daily. They're highly informative and I'm learning new things everyday!! My question is about bcaa's. I know you've talked about them before but I was just wondering if when working out or lifting weights, a person can have 3-5 grams in water during the session to keep the body anabolic and not tap into muscle as a fuel source? Ive heard that the leucine in bcaa's, if your having it every 3-4 hours throughout the day (especially if your not having any fish or meat with your meal) will basically flip an internal switch to keep you in a anabolic state so you don't slip into catabolism and you can keep building muscle. I know we are supposed to have half our body weight in protein a day, so would this go against that and up your protein intake too much? Thank you again for all you do!   Kelsey: I'm wondering the best approach to managing weight gain and inflammation and overall feeling better while taking an aromatase inhibitor.   Luciana: Dr. Cabral, I have a severe case of keloid scars. I have done multiple surgeries to remove them, but it keeps coming back. My last surgery was 2 years ago to remove two very large scars from my back and shoulder. After the surgery we followed up with radiation, compression, and steroid shots. I've been battling this since I was in 4th grade and have tried everything modern medicine has to offer. Yesterday I went to my doctor to get more steroid shots and he said I can't get them anymore because the skin is too thin. The scar is getting wider because of the tension in the shoulder. I've asked Naturopathic doctors before, but they didn't know how to help me. I've been following your work for the last few months and I'm getting ready to start the 21 day detox this weekend. Modern medicine claims that keloid scars are genetic, even though I'm the only one in my family who has it. I've always asked why I've only start developing them after age 10. Have you threated any patients with the same condition? What would your recommendation be? Should I setup an online consultation with you so we can further discuss the matter? Thank you for your time, Luciana   Alexis: Hello Dr Cabral, I'm in IHP2 and grateful for all you do. I was on the mend from Covid and 2 days later I woke with full body severe nerve pain. Then full body numbness & no longer able to walk. Diagnosed as Transverse Myelitis and positive for HHV6 and MOG. As a child I had JRA and EBV (then was fine!) and later had issues arise as an adult like: shingles, rashes, vertigo, food sensitivities. I worked with someone to get rid of Cdiff and Giardia. I've sealed and healed my gut a ton. But I must still have a higher viral load and/or other remaining issues, and this current virus attacked my nerves? What is the root?! I believe I can heal and I will! Any guidance on steps… greatly appreciated in this time of need, thank you   Tonya: Hello. My son has encopresis. He was diagnosed when he was 3 and now he is 10. For years the doctors said Miralax was the answer. Last year I decided enough was enough and quit the miralax. I hired a nutritionist and we did a food sensitivities test. Turns out he is allergic to dairy, gluten, soy, egg whites, peanuts, & tilapia. I searched your podcasts and found 1 other where you also suggested other testing so next we will do the stool test and so on. However, Ive also heard you mention a 5 day intestinal cleanse. And I was wondering if we could do this? Would this also work as a "Miralax"? Currently we are doing aloe vera juice and magnesium as well as a major diet change (that has been going great)! “My passion has always been prevention,” says holistic pediatrician Dr. Ana Maria Temple. All three of her children suffered from a series of ailments, for which medicines weren't helping. Once she eliminated sugar from their diets, their ailments quickly cleared up and she realized the importance of holistic healing. A major component of this, which she discusses at length in her book “The Holistic Baby Manual,” is diet. Quick guidelines like “If you can't read it, don't eat it,” and “if there are more than five ingredients, put it back” will help parents navigate the sometimes daunting business of food selection. So many ailments lead back to the gut. Other considerations include environmental factors like stress management, and a healthy family dynamic.    Another major component of the holistic approach is allowing the body to use its natural defenses to heal itself. Doctors, she says, have led us to be afraid of fevers and ear infections, rather than seeing them as nature's natural course. She explains how to navigate these symptoms with natural rememdies rather than immediately introduce unnecessary medications that can lead to bigger problems in the long run.    Dr. Ana Maria includes much of her useful advice in her book “The Holistic Baby Manual.”    Join the discussion to hear Sasha and Dr. Ana Maria discuss the topic of immunizations, the shocking number of chemicals still allowed in our food, and the panacea that is breast milk.   Quotes • “It is never the one thing. The human body and the human environment is very complex, it's like a giant puzzle, and you need all the pieces to figure it out. When we hyperfocus on the one thing we miss the big picture.” (17:54-18:09 | Dr. Ana Maria) • “The parental mindset is that whatever we feed our children is going to manifest in their wellness.” (23:51-23:57 | Dr. Ana Maria)  • “Children don't listen to what we say. They watch everything we do.”(28:28-28:32 | Dr. Anna Maria) • “We are not living longer. We are dying longer.” (30:13-30:15 | Dr. Ana Maria) • “The body keeps count of all the things that we do that are not good for it.”(31:59-32:03 | Dr. Ana Maria) • “So it is putting in the effort now, so we don't have to deal with chronic disease later. In this episode, I chat with Bridgitte Carroll. She talks about feeling like absolute crap and knew her health was off but doctors commended her on how healthy she was. She was on thyroid, ADHD, and migraine medication all at the same time. She was overweight AND had to take Miralax to go to the bathroom. She was the healthiest eater she knew but she was exhausted, on a bunch of meds, and felt horrible. Her doctors didn't have the answers. She didn't have the tools to heal herself. BUT she was sick of constantly feeling “off”. She was ready for change. So, She immersed herself in years of functional medicine training and surrounded herself with the leaders in the field. After working with hundreds of clients, she definitely knew she has the answer to how to live an amazingly healthy life. When she is not working with gut health clients, She empowers other dietitians to create the business of their dreams. Through money mindset work, tearing down their limiting beliefs, and encouraging dietitians to invest in themselves and their business, She helps guide RDs to create a business that works for their goals and lifestyle. https://www.instagram.com/wellbybridgitte/ https://www.instagram.com/gut.personal/ https://www.instagram.com/the.gut.fix/ https://well-by-bridgitte.mykajabi.com/realign-277f7d91-b060-4b40-afc0-0e65cb3f7471?preview_theme_id=2150453591

Her passion is to inspire, educate and empower you to revamp your families health and prevent children from developing chronic disease.    Topics Discussed:   Tell us how you came to become a Holistic Pediatrician?  Your mission is to empower and educate families to raise their kids with less medication. Let's talk about why there's such a need for that.  Peg - yay or nay? We recently did an interview with another Pediatrician about constipation. The biggest advice was to take PEG (basically a stool softener) on an ongoing basis - the brand name for Miralax or Restoralax in Canada. You have a very different perspective on treatment. Let's dive into that!  What are some of the issues you see in our healthcare system model. What needs to change? What do you wish more people knew?  Have you ever come under fire for your views and philosophy about medical care?  Tell us more about eczema, gut health and their root causes. My passion is to help people thrive in all aspects of life and live in whole health. The health and wellness industry talk a lot about exercising and restricting foods in order to lose weight, but there are some other key components to being healthy.    In this episode, I was a guest on my close friend's podcast, the Shine With Frannie Show, and we get very real to discuss some topics that most people are very embarrassed about but have issues with: digestion, bowel movements and emotional/mental pain. We are a three part being: spirit, soul and body. We have to address each of these areas if we want to experience Life the way God intends for us!   Frannie shares some of her weight loss journey, but specifically how after she lost her first 70lbs, her weight plateaued and as a result, she stopped having regular bowel movements. When the doctor told her that she would "just have to learn to adjust" to being severely constipated, she began trying everything she could find to change her dilemma: Metamucil, Miralax, psyllium husk, cleanses, detoxes, colonics and enemas, but nothing worked. However, over the years and most recently in the last two years, she learned that there are other key contributing factors to her lack of regularity. Her soul needed to release toxins she was impacted with.   I share my own health journey of overcoming PCOS and IBS and my journey to wholeness from the inside out. My soul was sick with bitterness, anger, unforgiveness…toxins the negatively affected my physical body and digestion. As I learned to "release” the "weight" I was carrying I experienced healing in my body.   Yet, we didn't really see breakthrough in our bathroom issues until we started restoring and rebalancing our gut health with special formulated plant-based supplements. It's been another key to living in whole health!  You might have heard it say, “You are only as healthy as your gut is healthy.”  We are living proof!   We pray this blesses you and helps you find freedom (and regularity, too!) After I lost the first 70lbs., my weight plateaued and as a result, I stopped having regular bowel movements. When the doctor told me that I would "just have to learn to adjust" to pooping only 2-3x a week, (yep, a week!) I began trying everything under the sun--Metamucil, Miralax, psyllium husk, cleanses, detoxes, even colonics and enemas. But over the years and most recently in the last 2ish years, I've learned that there are other key contributing factors to my lack of regularity. In today's episode, I talk with my sweet sister Lori Snyder about the soul component to natural bowel movements and the importance of "releasing" the "weight" that we carry that junk up our pipes. Also, Lori shares her personal journey of overcoming PCOS and IBS and her journey to wholeness from the inside out. Finally, Lori and I share about the natural supplements that we began using over the last few months that have helped restore and balance our gut health and keep us movin' & groovin'.
